Note 4 vs. Nexus 6 - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am in the market for a new phone, but couldn't decide between the Nexus 6 or the Note 4. I have the Note 3, which works kinda ok, but I really hate that it doesn't have NFC working (it's infamous for that).
After doing tons of research, I was going to go for the Nexus 6, but there seems to be a ridiculous bug that it has with NFC disappearing completely from the device, either at random, or when going over 43% storage capacity for the 64GB version. Unbelievably ridiculous.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/nfc-bug-help-please-t3006882
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/nfc-unavailable-t2986909
At least the Note 4 doesn't have that kind of ridiculous issue with NFC, other than a wakelock, which is easily solved. So for this reason, I've made up my mind and will be going for a Note 4. Also, LP is just as unstable on the Nexus 6 as it is on CM, so I think I'll be in safe hands.
Does anyone have any hands on experience between Note 4 vs. Nexus 6 and can chime in?
Thanks!

Get the Note 4. You won't regret it. Also, remember to get the T-Mobile version. Rootable

Oh yeah, absolutely. The plan is to get the T-mobile Note 4 version, as I'll be using it on AT&T.

One thing I was reading about some trouble with was the GPS on the Note 4. Since you have one, can you tell me what your experience is with it? Do you have any issues with it?

Awesomeness. Looks like I'm all set then!
How about sound quality? I've read that it's almost comparable to the Note 3, which to me is the best quality audio I've had on a device.

Go with the Note 4. The camera is way better than the nexus 6. And it's a smaller phon than the note 4 so if you have a bit of a smaller hand its a better fit.

Not one issue with the gps! I literally use it everyday and it locks quick.

That's great to hear. I myself use GPS daily, so it's a must that it be functioning properly. I mean, my Note 3 is not like my Nexus 4, which locked instantaneously EVERYWHERE, even inside in a basement, but it still works properly in that it never leads me astray and locks as soon as I need it to.
As long as the Note 4 is not any worse, that is all I ask.

Only issue I have is on Cyanogen mod I get no direction pointer in maps. Locks quick though.

I've never had any NFC issues on the Note 3 or 4.
As for the GPS it works great on the Noe 4 for me.
Don't really have any issues to say.

Fanboyism? Lol... Which rule is that one under?
We allow honest comparison threads that stay within the rules. Other people may be torn between the same choices.

Maybe check the deleted posts from this very thread kenny if its within your power. This thread was closed and the mod who closed it said these threads serve no purpose. " Create fanboyism" was the term used. Once I'm home I'll google the cache of the thread before it reappeared. Maybe you should talk to your fellow mods.
Just for reference I agree with you.

Plus its pretty apparent it was close. Within a 2 and half hour period of the thread opening up there were 13 comments, then all of a sudden no comment for 3 days? Pretty clear the thread was closed and reopened. And from what I was reading when it was open, everyone was respectful and giving honest opinions. Just saying... also the mod was @edfunkycold here is the beginning quote from when he deleted it " 1. comparison threads are not really beneficial to anyone. Please …"
The rest is cut off.

Yes Pierre you are correct and I apologize for any confusion this has caused you or anyone else. I was on my morning patrol and found it closed in the General subforum. Reading it over it seemed like the OP basically wanted advice. So I made the decision as Team Leader to overrule the closing and reopen it in the Q&A section. It is my bad that I did not post a reopening statement...I should have. In the past we have indeed closed device comparison threads and you know I myself have created sticky threads for those discussions. As with all things, we as a website evolve (thankfully we evolved passed Iron Fist eh?) and it was decided that comparison threads, if they stay within the rules and do not turn into the fanboy threads, would be allowed...now that does not include iPhones...ever! LOL...this started as an experiment a few months ago and seems to be working OK...members are behaving. Some of the mods here are used to the sticky threads I had made and it was a reflex to close this in General section...and really should just have been moved to Q&A. Hope this clears everything up. Again...apologies.

Thanks for clearing that up kenny. As for the OP, i do tend to have some gps locking issues once in a while with the note 4. Its few and far between but they do happen. However im going to go out on a limb and say that most phones will have gps locking issues every so often. I know i have them on both my nexus and samsung devices. Overall i think the note 4 is the better phone.

Yes, I myself was completely taken aback and surprised that this thread was closed. It was never even crossed my mind to introduce any "fanboyism", or for one to bash the other. As a matter of fact, I was very happy to have created this thread, because I was getting some great feedback, and also may have inadvertently helped Nexus 6 owners become aware of an issue with NFC, as I myself had no idea it was an issue...and then suddenly the thread was closed.
Either way, I'm glad that this thread was reopened. I was very, very close to getting a Note 4 yesterday evening, but lost out on the deal! :crying: I'm definitely grabbing one very shortly though.

To be honest, while both great devices, I'd go with the nexus 6. I've used both, the nexus 6 is faster, especially with 5.1.0, and the cameras aren't all that much different. Google gives better gives better support in my opinion. And I noticed you talking about the note 3 having the best audio on any phone you've heard? The front facing speaker phones are most often better.

EDIT: Damn you would think after you spend money on the XDA premium app you wouldn't have to wait to edit a post.
I'm guessing your already done by now but if not...
-Go slow
-Start by making the hole small and slowly go larger as needed with many test fits until you just get enough space.
-Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the rubber back. You'll need to pull it tight to get the "nubs" to hit the power and volume buttons right.
Other than that, enjoy the best phone setup money can buy as far as I'm concerned

Thanks for the links, I read every post in all of the ZL threads. But if you want to be smart about my rhetorical observation, obviously a two-minute wait to post can only limit a spam-bot and doesn't affect the topic someone makes a thread about.
Of course there's a lot of threads about the most popular/polarizing accessory in a forum specifically for accessories for one phone. It happens when the general thread about it reaches 800+ replies. I need help with a very specific question regarding it and I didn't want to sit & hope one of the few people that have done it decide to dig through that general thread, see my post, and reply. Obviously this question wouldn't apply to any other ZL thread, besides perhaps Vectron's review even though the only members who frequent it are probably prospective buyers and Vectron himself. I mean, look, I did make a separate thread about it and I have 2 replies.
Anyway, I haven't gotten to do it yet, of course UPS needs a signature and I work 13 hours a day, 6/7 days a week. Should've just gotten it sent to my business.

True, while they are not allowed we still have other VS. threads in the N5 section that have not been closed so it looks like they are letting them stay.
I think they are great and don't understand the reason why XDA would lock them anyway. If people do not care about a certain phone vs. another don't read it. It is not like the titles are misleading like so many other worthless threads that get opened here.

[Q] My battery gets extremely hot is this normal

Hello I just upgraded from the droid maxx to the droid turbo and I love this phone bit for some reason whenever I do any sort of thing on it. The CPU gets extremely hot. According to my pjone y CPU has reached all the way to 139°f and right now I am only using the internet and it has gone from 90°f to 134°f. Is this normal? I can understand if I am using a lot of apps at one time but I am only using the internet and it keeps getting hotter and the app I am using to check my CPU temputure says that at this tempurture it can damage my phone. Should I take it in to have it looked at?

Apparently this is a common problem. I just called VZW today about it and they are overnighting me a brand new device since they have no refurbs left due to sending out so many replacements.
Thank you for the information. I just called them and they said because I bought the phone less than 2 weeks ago they will replace it with a brand new one. However, I wonder if they are ever going to be able to root the droid turbo. Because if they ever do that will help the battery life and would probably other things like the heating problem

I wish I could say I was even hopeful for root at this point but there seems to be no interest in working on a Verizon exclusive Moto device. Our only chance, in my opinion, is if we can benefit from someone taking on this years Moto X.

Read my post a little more carefully next time. It says "there seems to be no interest", not to mention none of the Motos havent seen a full root exploit since 444 came out. Roughly a year of no further development for an OEM would suggest little to no interest in my opinion

Commenters like myself? Are you serious?! Last I checked there a no rules about posting your opinion whenever you please. Never once have I asked a Dev for an ETA or update. So unless stating your point of view on a subject would deter a Dev from releasing anything, which is unlikely, how about you get off your high horse and quit acting like an entitled troll. Lollipop available for Tmobile Note 4? Yes, or no?

I posted the same question in the general note 4 section and they were quick to point me back to the tmobile forum. I have a simple question.
"Is there a version of lollipop available for the US Tmobile version of Note 4, or are we still waiting?" There are so many variants, 910F, 910C, etc. etc. and most of the stickies on this topic are several pages long. As much as I would like to be a good community member and not add more threads on the same topic, I also don't want to be reading hundreds of pages, and hoping someone can enlighten me.
I am pretty handy at flashing roms, just need to know where to go to get what, if I wanted to get Lollipop on my unrooted, completey stock Tmobile Note 4.
Thanks so much xda.
A quick google search would have gotten you your info
Also this should be in the Q&A
OTA, no. Fastest way to check that is by checking the update button in your phones settings. You can also Google it.
AOSP, yes. Fastest way to check that is by looking in the XDA tmobile Note 4 Development forum. Both are quicker than posting the question. Not to be a sarcastic jerk, but 30 seconds of checking would save you face over 30 seconds of asking a question most of the time.

Hypothetical question.....

I have been seeing posts recently of someone sending in their Nexus 5X for repairs, and getting more RAM in the phone. Hypothetically speaking, would it be possible to take the Samsung Galaxy s8's screen, and put it on the Nexus 6 ? How difficult would that be ?

Ram and emmc chips are one thing... The panel of s8 would require a whole new redo of kernel with drivers to support it. Not only that they don't match hardware and ribbon cable wise. Not only that Nexus 6 is very close to end of life so doubt anyone would even do it even if it were possible.

You know, of course, that "Senior Member" is a meaningless title since you only have to post 100 comments to "earn" it In any case, many people don't understand how the hardware works, they only barely know how to unlock the bootloader on a Nexus and flash TWRP and a custom ROM. By the time one would be done doing all the hardware and software modding he'd need to fit a Galaxy S8 screen on the Nexus it'd be more worthwhile to just get the S8

Let's put it this way: it'd actually be easier to get a Galaxy S8, learn from scratch (as in with zero coding experience) how to break Samsung’s Knox and related security features, forcibly bypass any bootloader locks present and port a custom recovery like TWRP than it would be to make a S8 display work on a Nexus 6
But it still comes in black right?

Would a Toyota Camry windshield fit on a Dodge Charger?
Hahaha......Okay okay......*face palm* I had a feeling this is the response I would get. Honestly, I have been a member of XDA for years. And as one of you already pointed out, I'm one of those "senior members" that has learned how to root, install a custom recovery and a few other things. I posted this, because I really have no idea how some hardware works on phones compared to computers. I have worked on laptops and desktops for years, and some of the hardware in laptops is interchangeable, and others, is not. But hey, at least I made a few of you laugh, right ?

Samsung likes to release so many variants of one device that even swapping a screen from one model(TMO) to a model(VRZ) may have a ribbon issue. I have always been partial to the _Samsung Round_ screen but, i am not THAT partial. I have gotten mics.,loud and ear speakers to "line up" and "fit" as a way of replacement or out of pure curiosity.
