[SOLVED] [Q] How to downgrade Google Play Services? - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is running Google Play services ver 7.xx.
There are some compatibility problems of it with CM12 official. So I need to downgrade it to ver 6.xx.
How can it be done?
Normal apk installation fails.
Installed via adb, adb says success and Google Play services starts FCing. However, on restarting phone and checking Google Play services app info, it is still at ver 7.xx only.
So how to downgrade?
Edit - Uninstalled using Titanium Backup. Install apk via adb. Restart. Done.

Disabling it under Apps and then apply your APK doesn't work?

Good luck on that. I had an LG phone that was incompatible with a newer version. I could install the older version, but no matter what I did, as soon as I connected to the internet for any reason, it would update to the new incompatible version in the background.

Any one in here having issues with this version? This one is making me nuts!
It downloads but does not install apps, it stays stuck at downloading, I have done all possible way to fix but no success. i have cleared chache, uninstall update blah, even went to the extreme of wiping my whole phone starting from scratch thinking it was my damn phone still it does not work.
Anyone having same issues? or know a work around?
When I install old version it updates automatically to the new one....
Yeah i'm having the exact same problem.
Using the official XXKPU firmware btw.
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744264
anyway, i have the same problem
I started having the same problem today.
Go to Applications and choose Google Play Store. Clear the App data and uninstall updates (since it's a system app)
Then start the app, let it update and it's working again! (at least that's what did it for me)
I have ics and i have no problems, maybe we must to install ics

I am thinking already this update should not have been made available for GB.......I might think it's only for ICS devices
Same here.
Solution:
I uninstalled updates (went back to version 3.5.19) and freezed market updater with titanium backup. And it works. :good:

Google or say Goofle messed up big time....they replied back to me saying my phone was rooted!! I mean wtf!!!? they think every android users are noobies and have to buy their arguments.
Freezing market updater with TB works up to now.
Hmmm...looks like freezing and even uninstalling market updater still doesn't stop it from updating.
When't back to market 2.2.7.
Get it from here
Install as normal apk, convert it to system app

app download gives -505 error code

I have 3 apps that when I try to download (after flashing a rom) that give me an "unknown error code during application install -505"
Thoughts?
I've cleared cache and data and forced stopped the play store...
I've checked to see if any folders or files are in root or in data/data and I found some and deleted but nothing. Still won't download.

i had one that got that code. what i did to fix this is i found that app using google(not play store), installed it that way, then uninstalled it via the pkay store, then reinstalled it in the play store.
Yea I'm getting that problem with Terminal Emulator for Android by Jack Palevich. Not sure what the deal is. Aggravating since ROM Toolbox Terminal FC, and another that I've tried. Rastapop with leanKernel.
Last time that happened to me I fixed it by using Root Explorer (any file manager with root access should work tho) and deleted the "com.appname......" file from data/data partition from system root level, not SD.
Then went back to Play Store and installed fine.

Yes, it's a -505 error. That's the only app I've had that problem with, though I don't download too many. I just want a terminal app to use with leanKernel so I can access lkconfig. I am thinking it might have something to do with me being on rastapop which is 5.0.1, what version and/or ROM are you using?
@saddog5523 I'm on euphoria beta, about to dirty flash to the latest version 1.0 off beta.
This -505 sucks...

I have no twrp backup of the play store or my apps.
Strangely the download happens from the play store, it's the install that hoses up. Making me think I have some file somewhere shettin bricks on the install.
I feel like I've tried everything.
Well. My main issue was with Terminal Emulator for Android by Jack Palevich. I clean flashed the new 5.0.1 and wiped/factory reset my device. Still had the same 505 error. It was crazy aggravating. I Google'd it to see if anyone else had the same issue, and found out that it was a permissions issue: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...deal-with-unknown-installation-error-code-505
Every time I tried to access the baked in terminal emulator within Rom Toolbox Lite, it would force close the app. I got aggravated at Rom Toolbox Lite and uninstalled it, and while I was in the play store, decided to try Terminal Emulator for Android again. This time it worked. I uninstalled Terminal and installed Rom Toolbox Lite to test my new theory, and found that the two apps do not play well with each other for some reason. Even when I try to install Rom Toolbox Lite after I already have Terminal installed, it would give me the same 505 error. Apparently I can have one or the other, which honestly makes no sense at all.
I'm guessing that error could be fixed (possibly) by uninstalling applications that have the same feature. i.e. Terminal Emulator for Android and Rom Toolbox Lite. One of the apps you have installed might be causing the error in trying to install another app. Hope this helps someone with the same issue.

Are you running 5.0.1 ? I had this issue with an app when I first got my phone and with some research found out the problem was apparently fixed in the 5.0.1 OTA, well it fixed it for me. This is one of the changes that fixes it.

Are you running the stock ROM?
The problem is explained here in more detail. You basically have to uninstall whatever is conflicting with the app install. A logcat should be able to tell you where the conflict is.

Thanks. Yes, I'm running the stock ROM and not rooted. It's basically just out of the box and with the 5.0.1 OTA update. The conflict is between Pure Calendar Widget and GTasks. If I uninstall one app, the other will install. But if I try to install _both_, I get the 505 error. Is there any way around this? The post you linked to says that this has been fixed in 5.0.1, but it doesn't look like that to me.
Thanks!

I honestly think it's something either the developers will have to work out in a new version of their app, or Google will have to fix in a new phone update. Whichever comes first. 5.0.1 was supposed to fix it, but like you and I and others have noticed, it's still a problem. You're just going to have to use one or the other for now.
so, what you're saying is we're pretty much SOL until it is actually fixed...
the thing is, google is saying they fixed it on 5.0.1
if it's not actually fixed then people who can report it, should report it...
I do not have the permissions or "prestige" to post on StackOverFlow or code.google.com to say that the bug has not been fixed...

Samsung browser problem

Hello everyone
I ve installed manually Samsung browser version 5.0 over my old version but it doesn't run correctly with errors, unexpected closes etc.. Now I want to go back to the right version but I cannot either uninstall it or install the previous one over the new one as it's a system app. I'm not rooted.. Is there a way I can do it or any 5 version that works correctly to anyone to install it?

I don't think version 5 worked for me either.
If you installed it then it should have installed as a user app. You should be able to uninstall it via app manager using the 'uninstall updates' button and revert to the default (system) version.
Have you tried clearing cache and data for the browser app first?
You can always install the play store version.

Latest Google Dialer running on stock Nougat

Here is what I did to get the latest Google dialer to run on my Stock Nougat ROM.
Install the dialer framework via TWRP (attached)
Freeze the stock phone app
Install the Google phone app (attached), make it the default and give it permissions
Reboot
I am now using the latest Google Dialer.
Proximity search and Spam detection work too.

Thanks. All you need is the framework. Then download dialer. This was easier than using GAPPS.

Not that this makes any sense, but I installed this and immediately lost LTE service in a place where I always have LTE service. Is there a way to uninstall the framework to see if it caused the issue?
NEVER MIND. Seems to have just been a glitch.

According to TiBu, I am currently running "Phone 14.0.176716531" which I think it the latest update from Google. The update came out this week. Any other Phone apps should be frozen.
PS: Don't forget to select the new Phone app as the default. Its under the "gear icon" in Manage Apps.
In Titanium Backup, could the new Phone be converted to System App?
I still haven't got the G Phone to display right but have manged to turn on WiFi Calling in the Moto Phone. Will the G Phone support WiFi Calling? WiFi Calling is pretty slick. Reception sucked in my house but with WiFi Calling i feel like I am using an AT&T landline from years ago. As they said, "you can hear a pin drop".
I turned on WiFi caller using Magisk VoEnabler.

Awesome. Thanks!
I copied the V15 Dialer.apk (was renamed) to the folder /system/priv-app/dialer. I made the permissions -rw-r-r-. After a reboot I am now running the latest Google Dialer.
Prior to installing the apk, I ran a Zip file created by xabat, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dnZgFzKxYt9j8_uDwp5_36irMDsvN0q7/view?usp=drivesdk but I dont think that helped since I was still running the V14 Dialer afterwards.
Video icon is greyed-out and not seeing a setting for Assisted Dialing. Looks like v14, but its definitely v15.
