[Q] Quality of glass - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

*For phone users only*
What is your impression about the front and back glass ?
Are they scratch and shutter resistant ?
If I Helped, Leave A Thanks!

I find the screen to be pretty durable. If you're careful you will not scratch it. The back of mine is scratched pretty badly just above the NFC chip.

im not using any cases but i do have a screen protector on the front and i do recommend tempered glass for back because it gets scratched very easily. Glass itself seems very durable. I've been using z3c for 5 months now and everything still looks brand new. hope i helped

So you think it would be better if the back was plastic like Z1 Compact?

I have not seen a Z1 compact. While the glass looks nice on the back, yes I think it should probably be a different material because it does scratch too easily.

Protection for Z1S (T-Mobile USA). Any recommendations?

HI there. Just ordered my Z1S and I'm really excited. Unfortunately it is new, limited to one carrier, and designed slightly differently than the international equivalent. So that means it's hard to find accessories.
I'm wondering if there are any manufacturers I should look out for that might produce a product I could use to protect the glass on the front and back. From what I've seen they are in fact pretty shatter-proof, but seem to scratch very easily.
I've never been the type to ever put a case on my phone, personally I think they detract from the beauty of the device, but I've seen some Nillkin glass screen protectors that don't look too bad.
I bought the Nilkin tempered glass for my Z1. Will never use any screen protector but tempered glass from now on. Really happy with it.
Couldn't get the link but search for this on eBay.

I already contacted the seller on ebay to see if they could source it for the Z1S. I don't see why not. That stuff all comes from factories in Shenzen and Shanghai... they can pump out stuff so fast. They have accessories made long before a device is announced.
My understanding is that the phone comes with the factory screen protector already installed

And in my experience when something is shatterproof it tends to scratch easily. Just like when something doesn't break it bends. There's always a tradeoff when you want lightweight protection.
There's some nasty scratch tests on youtube with the z1. Some drop tests too. Didn't shatter, but it didn't look pretty after.
If I can put an additional layer of strong glass on the front and back protect the nice stuff underneath... worth it.

Did you ever find a good screen protector? I got a scratch on the factory one and want to remove it to replace it. At least I hope the scratch is only on the protector...
Thanks
Check out xtreme guard, they have both wet and dry install screen protectors for Z1s. I got both but used wet first.
So far, our Z1s doesn't have a reliable glass protector. I'm waiting for spigen to have one.

that's the factory-applied anti-shatter sheet. it scratches VERY easily...
it definitely isn't tempered glass tho... far from it...
I'm French and I have searched desperately a web site to buy a tempered glass but this is a total failure. Impossible to find any tempered glass for the ZR.
I have searched with all keywords possible : C5502 C5502 M36h Xperia ZR Xperia A So-04e dogo
I found only one on Amazon UK but impossible to ship it to France. I find also some tempered glass on alibaba.com but this web site is dedicated for large orders and professionnals.
If you find something please share the links. :good:

Hi,
I'm thinking, since we're all looking for it and alibaba do sell it in bulk, what we can do is to get total order and we can negotiate with alibaba to proceed with maybe 50 pcs?
Let's work together ! what do you all think? :highfive:

I received it last week.
For now, it's great. A the start I was just a little bit surprised by the thickness of 0,3mm, it's really bigger than plastic films. But after all it's good!
As usual I didn't make any bubbles by applying the protection.
It seems pretty strong. I scratched (slowly !) with cisors and there is no marks.
I take care of my phones, before the tempered glass protection I had a plastic screen protector and I was almost intact after 1 year. So I think that this tempered glass will last a long time. :good:
I have just 2 remarks about the tickness.
Firt, when you pull down the notification bar from the right, at the start it's strange to have the edge of the tempered glass under the finger but get used to it.
You can see the top profile here : http://hpics.li/735c1cb
The second remark is about the left and right edges. I use a case to protect my phone and with the 0.3mm of tempered glass it's more pleasant to slide my finger over the screen in left and right slides because the gap between the case egde and the screen is smaller.
You can see that here : http://hpics.li/50a3d32
To conclude, I recommend this tempered glass! And it's pretty cheap compared to tempered glass for other phones. Try it!

Nice to hear that. ZR comes with shatter proof sheet on the scratch resistant glass. So you removed that and then put the tempered glass protector
what was the price of it? I heard its very costly. A retailer told me its around INR 1000

No I didn't remove the factory screen protector!
I put my protections on the factory protection. In fact there is 3 layers :
touch screen glass → factory plastic screen protector → tempered glass
If you remove the factory plastic screen protector the "Sony" logo comes with it and your warranty will be canceled.
So let the factory screen protector and put a protection on it!!
About the cost, for me in France it's 3.53€. With a convertor you can see that 3.53€ is equal to INR 250.
For me in France, 3.53€ is cheap.

I don't trust the scratch resistance of the screen glass. It's not Gorilla Glass.
No problem about visibility or touch sensitivity! The visibility depend of your talent when you apply the protection. If you don't make bubbles the result will be great.

Tempered Glass Screen Protectors

As with any phone, this is a pretty hot topic and I expect no less from this phone.
Please share your experiences with tempered glass screen protectors in this thread so they do not clutter the forum.
Coming from the Nexus 6, tempered glass screen protectors were a nightmare . the curved screen made them have a halo effect and caused proximity sensor issues. I'm hoping this phone is not going to be the same.
Personally I just ordered the Spigen glass.tr slim for my phone.. It can be found for 9.99 + free shipping on amazon currently. I will be reporting back with my review once I receive it and my phone.
I've had bad luck with the tempered glass protectors. On both my Nexus 5 and my Nikon DSLR, I've had the tempered glass break - no damage to the screens themselves, just broken screen protectors. No thanks.
I'd say they did their job then ... Seems they protected your phone from breakinh

Yeah, lots of folks like them, I've just had bad luck. One on a DSLR, one on a phone, both from reputable manufacturers, and a couple years apart. Neither lasted two months, and I do baby my gear. Weird.
I've had a tempered glass protector on my Galaxy S5 and have had to replace it once do to a crack straight across due to a fall. And yes, the actual screen is perfectly fine. I already received my Spigen tempered glass protector in the mail.

My spigen arrived in the mail today.. Looks great. Can't wait to try it on the phone
In my house, we've got tempered glass protectors on a Galaxy Tab A and a iPhone 6S plus, they have been working out great. We use TechMatte amFilm brand.
I haven't had a screen protector on my GS5 for the last year and don't have any noticeable scratches. Is the tempered glass the way to go? Seems that everyone likes the Spigen one...

They can get scratched I promise, anything with quartz in it like sand, dirt etc will scratch it. I like the Spigen one because they are generally good for the price
My laid my spigen on top of my Cruzerlite bugdroid case to get an idea of coverage and it appears as though the screen protector goes edge to edge..leaving just barely enough room for a lip on a case

That's good to know that the screen protectors may not be 9H since steel can scratch it. I wonder why they say it is...

Screen Guard

Hello,
Could you please suggest a good Screen Protector Film or my Nexus6 ? I don't want a Tempered Glass. I need the Proximity Sensor and Camera to be working after installing the Screen Protector.
Thanks.
I'm using a Mr shield that I found on amazon for 6 bucks. Normally I would use a tempered glass screen protector, but after 3 failed attempts I gave up on finding one that fits without the "halo"around the screen.

I found one but I wouldn't recommend it. You don't really need cut outs on film ones though. In fact on my Nexus 5 I had tempered glass without cut outs and everything worked fine., though apparently Nexus 6 this isnt quite the case.
Everything is working on mine (only put it on 3 days ago). The other screen protector you can get that has cutouts is Xtreme guard. Dirt cheap and a decent product.

If that is the case, then I think I will go ahead and purchase the one with out cutouts. I was looking at this. The Mr Shield also seems to be good.
I have found this one has appropriate cut outs, but it is a Wet Application Film. So I'm doubtful if it will damage my phone.

As long as you don't use too much water, it will be fine. I've seen people filming videos under water in the bathtub with a nexus 6. It is not rated for underwater use (and would not recommend you use it underwater either) but a few splashes on the screen isn't going to cause an issue.
Also the armorsuit if too costly for me. So if you are saying that the cut outs are not necessary for film protectors then I'm planning to order the Spigen shown above. It is lesser price with good quality.

You really spent $15 for a plastic screen protector? There are high quality plastic protectors than can be had for 1/12th the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/6X-Supershi...884973?hash=item2ed8911f2d:g:MxsAAOSwEppUSqmb
Maybe you should hang out with the guy who spent $40 on a Spigen Slim Armor case. (can be had for $12 on ebay)
I've had the same Skinomi film on my shamu since I received it last December. The fact that it's a wet application turns some off to it, but I've had no problems. I have one preordered for my 6p as well.
Yes, I avoid eBay if I can, and would rather spend a little more for it and know who I'm dealing with and the quality of the product. The added cost is well worth the piece of mind. Also the fact that with my OG Moto X, the protectors from Motorola had the best fit and finish by far of the protectors I tried.

How scratch resistant is it? Do you use a case?

Hey people, I was wondering: how does it hold up against scratches? I have the blue, with the ridged back, but so far afraid to use it without a case... How do you use yours? Does is scratch easily? What about the screen?

I feel the same way. Unfortunately. I am curious about the back though...
Back seems to hold up (maybe non touch sensitive glass is easier to make scratch resistant) the front 2 scratches in the first week... And I used a soft pouch until proper accessories come out.
Got a skin on the back and a crappy plastic screen protector for now.

I do wonder though, if it scratches the olephobic coating or the actual glass is scratched. A colleague of mine has the s7 until last week without a protector and said screen was always perfect. But it got fingerprinty as hell.
Wonder if one of those nano liquid coatings would smooth it out. I have accidental damage insurance so if that works I would rid of the scratches with that.
You might have a point there with the coating. I have noticed that as well on my samsung phones.
I tried that nano liquid, but havent noticed much diferrence though.
I've tried several screen protectors and they all stop fingerprint recognition working!

I am challenging those that think Mate 20 Pro uses Gorilla Glass (I have read the 1 or 2 reviews that state this), and it's not listed in the Gorilla Glass website. Also worried about scratches I reached out to Huawei AU and received the following:
To answer your inquiry, this phone uses aluminosilicate glass for both front and back which is also Scratch resistant and is composed of aluminum, oxygen, silicon, and several other positively charged ions.

I am seeing the above noted comments and "scratch resistant" or not, it's obvious this phone needs a case and screen protector.
I wish it had Gorilla Glass 6!
No case... Back skin and plastic screen protector
