Factory reset? I have been on quite a few versions of lollipop and custom ROMs I've never seen the black circle stay for longer than I've touched it.

Aliens have landed inside your phone. Call the men in black (if the aliens haven't already blocked your calls)

I've never heard of this hotkey capability before - is this available on stock 5.1?

I would assume its under accessibility

Oh, you mean the home button shortcut gesture - thanks, I hadn't heard that referred to as a hotkey before.
Still, on my stock 5.1 phone that gesture shows as a temporary white circle as long as my finger is still pressed down on the home button (waiting for me to drag upwards and get the shortcut list) - not sure why the OP would be seeing a grey circle or why it's remaining on the screen, aside from a bug.

The "Sticky Soft Keys," do you mean? I thought that was highlights around the soft keys, but could be wrong.
Thinking about it, that home button shortcut seems dedicated to Google Now in Lollipop (i.e., I was used to it being configurable in TouchWiz) - I tried disabling Google Now as an experiment, but holding your finger down on the Home button still brings up the white circle overlay.
It's almost as if that overlay is staying resident for the OP after possibly being triggered (as a guess) - even though it's inexplicably grey on his phone - so, I wonder if holding down the Home soft key for a few seconds and then letting go might make it go away.
@Davesssssss : if you hold down the Home soft key, does a different circle overlay appear? If not, can you swipe up and get a prompt for opening the Google Now cards? Going back to a home screen, is the grey circle still there?
This is all just testing to determine if that circle is related to the Home button, but thought it might be interesting to try.

Out of curiosity, did. you try the tests I suggested earlier? I am curious if this is at all related to the home key and maybe another app you happen to have installed.

So, you hold the Home button and swipe up, then it goes away temporarily? But, it shows. up again how. much later, please?
Are you on stock 5.1 with no root and locked bootloader?
I'm still leaning towards an app that is somehow colluding with the Google Now launcher via Home button but that's probably do to my lack of knowledge, most likely.
- ooofest

Finally I found out the reason, no root and locked boot , is my Carrier problem , when I took the Sim out ,it never shows again

Interesting, though that seems an unworkable solution, since you need the carrier SIM for phone functionality.
The phone was activated and working correctly with your carrier for calls, texts, data?

Yes and fully works, just that gray circle sometime shows , I will wait till next update and see if it will be fixed. But thanks man

[APP] Widgetsoid2.x ... 3rd party Power Control Widget, and more... way more!

Just thought I'd pass this along. Before the NS, I used the hell out of "Extended Controls" ... Sadly, most of the toggles I would have liked to use do not work with the NS (2.3 compatibility issue?). Emailed the dev and got responses right away saying it will be updated next week. Next week came and gone ... came and gone again. Dev is probably behind with RL stuff so sooner or later it will be updated. In the mean time, I found an awesome alternative with more features ... and its free.
Widgetsoid2.X
Highly customizable power control widget ... and can even be configured to add a power control widget from your notification bar drop down.
Yeah I really like widgetsoid. Since cm team still hasn't got the flashlight working I use its flashlight widget inside the notification bar. Works great.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
great app, been using it for a while now. but how do you put the widgets in the notification bar? can't seem to find it
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
ohh that's a nice find
Odd. Both my wife and I use extended controls fine. I find if you restore it via Titanium, it doesn't work but if you do a fresh install of it, everything functions great. Good find though.

The widget isn't really not put in the notification bar. It puts the image of your widget there but when you click on a power control it brings up the power control in an overlay of your screen where you then select which power control you want to turn on/off. For me (not short on screen space) its no quicker than using regular widget on the screen.
thanks! I've been using extended controls even though it wasn't fully operational w/gingerbread. Just dl'ed widgetzoid and bluetooth works! Liking the vertical option too..
I was really impressed by Widgetsoid and its developer 2 weeks ago. I found a bug, emailed the dev, and got a response in like an hour. Within like 2 hours of emailing him, he tracked down the bug and incorporated a fix into the next release. Now that's service.
we reported it a while ago
http://www.mobiflip.de/2011/01/andr...-benachrichtigungsleiste-einfach-nachruesten/
(p.s. google translate is your friend )
The thing I really like is how easy it is to edit existing widgets. Saves a lot of time if you just want to add or remove something from a power control type bar
the app is good, no doubt, but it's a major pain in the back to configure
some options are no longer available after you hit apply
so if you ever want to change them again, you can't (for example the invisible option, there are a few more that are no longer accessible after it was saved)
and the only alternative is to delete it, and create a new one

Guess that's why I'm sticking with extended controls. Profiles are so easy to edit.
but once you master this App, it's a big treasure chest!
once everything was properly setup and configure, it easily replaced 7+ apps
TeslaLED
tons of On/Off Widgets
Ace Volume
Battery info
crap load of other ones i uninstalled
i setup 4 rows, maybe gonna add 1 more for 5 rows for Apps
that's the nice thing about this app, you can create custom shortcuts to make it launch your most used apps, from the Notification area
i simply love it

are you guys able to enable/disable Data with Widgetsoid 2.x on Nexus S using Gingerbread 2.3.. (unrooted?).
Most items work, but this one does not toggle Mobile Data on/off on my phone. I dunno if this is a security limitation right now with this OS.

Yeah I noticed this too. Was a shame, cause this is the main reason I was after this. I guess this functionality of directly enabling/disabling from the task bar cannot be enabled in stock roms without direct framework changes.

Hi,
Widgetsoid need root only for the reboot toggle
For the data on Nexus S just restaur your apn, check your data is enable and go to global preferences of widgetsoid and check "disable all apn".
Now it have to work.

Android don't allow event on notifications it's an android limitation not an widgetsoid error/limitation.
On HTC rom it's works directly because HTC have modify android source code to allow this. HTC users are lucky. Next version have an option to disable popup after click on notification.

[GUIDE] How to set up a vertical battery widget using Minimalistic Text

I posted the link to this guide in the Homescreen snapshot thread, but I guess it will get better coverage as a separate thread. This guide is courtesy of Notto over @ Xoom Forums.
I've seen many posts by people struggling to get this to work and the common reply to date has been to persevere and it will eventually work. Notto has put together this, his shot at a detailed explanation of how to set up the vertical battery widget using Minimalistic Text with screen shots.
How to set up minimalistic battery widget
Steps
1. Download minamilisticText widget from the market
2. Touch the plus in the top right hand corner of your home screen (the add widget button) and select the 1x5 vertical widget
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. This will take u into the settings screen for the widget. It will always be in vertical screen. Do not change any of the settings, just hit back and go back to the home screen. Make sure the widget appeared. It should show the time in text sideways.
4. Then tap on the widget and go back into settings. (I know this sounds stupid but trust me, changing the settings right away can screw it up)
5. Set up the settings, this is the hard part everyone has trouble with
Name - change it to whatever, I chose BatteryVertical
Background - uncheck show background. This will give it a transparent look
Widget direction - left to right
for the other three under orientation make sure their all the same with center selected
Predetermined layout - select custom
Custom layout
1. First you want to long hold on the three boxes in the first row, one at a time. After selected a trash can will appear, drag and drop and the box will be remove. It should just be one row with nothing in it at this point.
2. Then you want to click on the second button on the right, the green add button, not the plus sign. This will add another row. You want to press this 9 times. This will give you a total of 10 rows. If you want 0% you can add that as well. The only difference is the extra row in this part and then font size.
3. Now you click on the plus sign on the right, this will pull up a menu. Click on the battery section on the bottom. Scroll over to battery level bar 100%. Put this on the top row. Repeat these steps for each of the battery levels. Put one % on each row, descending from the top.
Text style
Normal/Non accented - You want these both the same
Font family - default
Bold/italic - unchecked
Size - 30 for no 0 / 28 with
Case - normal
Color - white, just the default as white as possible
Use system cold - unchecked
Blur ratio - 0
Accented
Font family - default
Bold - checked
Italic - unchecked
Size - 50 without 0. / 48 with
Color - you can use whatever but I use FF118AEB under hex to match the system color as best as possible
Blur- 0
6. Hit save
This is all you need to set up the widget, it works in both landscape and horizontal. Hope this works for all of you.
I can't seem to find my saved preferences

Anyone else notice the widget looks a little goofy (cut off the 10 percent on the bottom and 100 is on two lines) when the battery percentage is fully charged at 100%?
Check it out.

Try setting up the widget on another screen (not Home screen) and then after setting up drag it back to the Home Screen. this seems to work for me as I also couldn't find the widget on the Home Screen after trying to set it up there.
Great job on the GUIDE!
And yes, try setting up the widget on a blank screen and then dragging it to the screen you want.
MT is not optimized for honeycomb yet and can be a bit buggy at times.
Excellent tutorial thank you! Honestly this was bugging me in how to achieve!

Wow, what did i find on the note 8? A secrete maybe

On Gallaxy Note8. go to settings then go to About phone then scroll down to Android version then tap 4 or 5 times repeatedly fast it will bring up a Big letter N on that letter N tap fast 4 or 5 times repeatedly and then touch and hold the N a little symbol will appear below the N a circle with a line through it and then touch the N and hold till another symbol appears as a cats face,, what does this do? Have you guys seen this?, please let me know if you have any ideals what it is turning on, maybe a secret to unlock all the mysteries of the world,, hopely, lol, thnx guys.
Holding it makes a cat face appear, holding it again makes a stop sign like symbol... My guess is that it's enabling and disabling something, no clue what though... Good job finding it though. EDIT! It adds a tile to your quick tiles, a small dish that gives you the option to place food on it... Which I'd imagine leads to some game somehow...
It creates a quick tile icon that you can add the drop down menu. You can leave snacks out on the plate and the cat will come and eat it.
I'm allergic to cats so I leave this off.

Its a cat collector thing. it adds a quick settings tile you can put "food" out on a dish and cats will come. Not really a secret.
It's an old thing Google has been doing. In older versions of Android you would get different and almost impossible to play mini games.
It's just a fun nerd thing
Now they changed the game type hehe.
I haven't tried but thanks for sharing I will try it asap.
It's a catlog

Sorry mate, you haven't discovered the 'holy grail'.
This is well known, it's called an 'Easter egg' and is a sort of quirky present from the developer's.
It changes with each new version of 'Android'.
Indeed it is.

that is the Google easter egg that is embedded in every version of Android, sometimes it opens a cheap video game like on lolipop and jellybean
Since you found that, go into quick settings, and add Empty dish. Choose a food, and sometime later, you'll receive a notification that a cat has arrived. You can name it. Make sure you fill the now empty dish again, to get another cat (if you're that crazy).
It's not working on my Verizon Note 8. I get the N, but I tap and hold it and nothing happens.
That's kind of funny and sad.
But only sad because I remember the jelly beens would fly all over the place. They come a long way for sure though.

Just a couple of little "complaints" about the phone.

First let me apologize if this is not the correct location on the forum to post this. I by am no means looking to bash the phone just had some questions that maybe some people may be able to help me with. I understand this is not Touchwiz so it is different, and these are very minor issues nothing that I could not learn to adjust to.
1) Notification drop down. Though I do like the "gesture" style notification drop down. Before I could use the finger print scanner to drop down to notification tab is there another shortcut way to make this happen similar to the finger print way on the S8+? I may be able to do in in Nova but will need to mess with it to figure it out.
2) Brightness bar. Does anyone know how to get the brightness bar to possible show up in the notification without it being pulled down all the way?
3) Home button. I can't seem to find a way to press the home button when in a full screen game app. Meaning prior I was able to press the location and then it would still work. Now I have to swipe up to show the nav bar and then press it.
4)LTE+ This is one isn't a complaint just a question about since I got the unlocked instead of Verizon it shows LTE+ vs 4G doing a quick search it seems to be ok just wanted some clarification.
Other then those few things I noticed over all I am happy the phone is a lot quick and better then my previous. Though at the same time nothing super new to really "wow" me I was already more then happy with the S8+ and the S10+ is a very good evolution. The hole punch is really not as bad as some others may have feared. The finger print does take a little time to get used to but seems to work about 85% success mostly do to slightly off placement. Having the extra cameras is great and so far a nice upgrade from my S8+. Again not really complaining but maybe there is toggle that I may have missed that could have fixed my little issues.
1. Use the swipe down gesture in nova launcher to pull it down, not as nice as FP sensor gesture i know :/
2. You can do this by checking the setting for 'Show Control on Top' when you expand the brightness control
3. If you are using the gestures for navigation you would swipe from where the home button would be if it were held in portrait, so typically on the right when gaming. just play with it.

Thanks, I actually used an an BX actions to remap the button on my S8+ decided to pay for the full feature and now I mapped it to drop down notifications so thats all set. Thanks found the control option by clicking on the arrow. As for my third the more I use both pbones it might be good to swipe up for the buttom. No more accidental presses when in full screen. So it looks like the phones grade is moving up ?. Thanks for the reply.
Pull down the notification all the way. Next to the brightness bar you will see a little down arrow, press that and there it is.

Oh, this is good to know. This is one of the reasons I switch launchers. I'm so used to swipe up anywhere for apps and down anywhere for notifications. This is even more natural to me than the fingerprint reader swipe, but of course the fingerprint reader let you do it in any app which is a big difference.
As for #4 since no one answered, the unlocked version is just being more specific. The US carriers usually replace the specific technology type (LTE, LTE+, etc) with generic "4G" branding (or 5GE if you're a jackass).
I just paid for full BXActions and I was able to remap bixby to double tap to drop the notification. Before I was happy with the free version but deff worth the extra few bucks. I can map more tap types.

Tried a few things but not the worst preamblem. Another issue I wish they could fix is vibrate when the thumbprint is accepted vs vibrate when you miss. Ehhh just little complaints. ?* getting more comfort with the phone, though at the same time curious to see the folding Razer

I've stopped using Nova because of this, since Pie Tesla Unread is very inconsistent, if they ever sort it I will go back

I just followed your lead cflip2x and paid for the full version of BXActions and it's (obviously) ideal for this phone. Struggling to attach a single tap action to the bixby button though since whatever I try only seems to activate on a double tap. I need to find the right forum to discuss that issue but it's a great app.

In Nova Beta 6.1 you don't need Tesla anymore, there is an option in the notification which uses the default Pie notification (numbered) system. Starting tomorrow Tesla won't be available on Playstore due to Google new restrictions.

Bottom corner sensitivity

Hi,
I got my P30 Pro couple of days ago, so far everything is pretty smooth, but one thing really bothers me:
The sensitivity of the bottom right corner; I'm using SwiftKey with no dedicated emoji key (=you have to long press the enter key), and 3 times out of 4 it doesn't take the long press.
And my long press duration is 200ms...
Anyone having the same issue??
I think the corners are less sensitive by default to prevent accidental touches. Due to it having a curved screen, it's easy to activate app icons on the bottom left and right with your palm. On my s10 plus, i always accidentally launch apps which are situated in the bottom right. Never had this issue on the p30 pro so i guess it's better this way.

I have an emoji key on SwiftKey.
Look down to the left of space bar.
Maybe it is due to your theme or setup.
Plus when I type stuff it offers emoji too.

7:50 I think we all have the same problem I check it I have less sensitivi on bottom center and it works fine when You turn on in "programer mode" show touch and 1 more option to show data about touch when You turn it on touch start work fine. Can You check it ?
I am having screen sensitivity issues in general with this phone, i am finding i am having to press the home button a few times for it to register sometimes and also when i unlock the phone when i have notifications, i am sometimes having to press the notifications a few times before they open also.
I am using still on firmware .124 so not sure if when i get an update if it will fix that?

I'm on 153 and it's not better
screen sensitivity on my P30 pro is great, even with the tempered glass on.

I posted a similar topic, but got no response. Mine seems to be unresponsive on the bottom left part.

Hi Shaunydub,
Thank you, It's indeed the way i set up my keyboard, but it's done on purpose, I've always used SwiftKey like this and I'm used to it.
But I guess, I will eventually have to switch to the dedicated key...
As far as Emoji suggestions, it's a different option, I have that too

I didn't notice it on the left side as the only long press I'm using is on the right side. But I guess it is the same...
I'm pretty sure it's indeed a software prevention for not activating button while holding the device, but yes my question was more does it bother someone else than me?
I don't remember the version I got from the box but yes updating to 153 didn't change anything for that...

It didn't happen before.... started happening roughly around 2-3 weeks ago, and it's the same on 153.
Does it improve if you disable the feature 'Accidental touches' or whatever it's called. It could be worth a try..

If you're talking about "Mistouch prevention", unfortunately it doesn't help as it's only blocking the screen to be turned on when the proximity sensor detects something like when it's in your pocket.
