Custom Firmware question - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have the i1890N currently on stock and rooted. The problem is there is some wakelock causing the battery to drain like crazy. I've spent months trying to figure out whats causing it but can't figure it out. I have a feeling it is something to do with wifi as when that is turned off, the wakelock isn't present. So I was thinking of changing to a custom rom, in particular, one which isn't heavy on battery, and which is stable Any suggestions? Thanks!

Wakelocks and Massive battery drain!

Hi guys,
After updating from a March nightly to the latest Cyanogenmod nightly I've been experiencing the worst batterylife I have ever had!
I mean, seriously. Charge it up at night, place it by my bed and it's completely dead in the morning!
So it loses 100% battery overnight, with no usage whatsoever
I've tried beanstalk (Also Cyanogenmod based) and experienced the exact same issue. A full wipe and a brand new Cyanogenmod update and it's exactly the same.
I really can't return to stock as I'm making use of a lot of Cyanogenmods features.
The wakelocks are:
As reported by BetterBatteryStats:
Msm_hsic_host
And also a msm_camera wakelock poped up at the top of the list once.
Needless to say "Android OS" tops my battery usage screen with over 90% usage
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Anyone know a fix?
I'm basically without a phone right now

I've got the same issue here, but for me it's caused by Google services. At times my battery drains within 4 hours, even if I don't use the phone.
But at some times (most of the times) the phone just acts normal.
Before 4.3 I never had this problem, waiting for 4.4, hope that my problem will be gone. Else I'll just go back to 4.2
Aha! Success!
I have found the issue, I'll post it here if anyone else is having the same issue. Not sure if it'll help you though Dsteppa as your problem seems slightly different to mine
Although I would recommend "freezing" google maps as a starting point. See if that helps! Many android devices suffer from a similar problem, chances of it helping you is about 70%. If you're rooted it's relatively easy to do using apps from the playstore
Msm_hsic_host is used to "mount" the 3g modem as a usb device.. At least that's what I've gathered from various sources. Some phones have a kernel issue which stops the modem from being "unmounted" when data sending/receiving has been completely and thus drains the battery.
Turns out Msm_hsic_host was working as intended. It was actually an app which was apparently steaming data in real time, forcing the 3g modem to remain at full power and preventing the phone from sleeping. The unusual thing is that this app claimed it only consumed less than 3% and didn't even show on Better Battery Stats!
Uninstalling the app instantly solved my battery power issues! So for anyone experiencing similar issues, check for any apps which could be using "realtime" streaming; Such as third party Twitter / Facebook or even Email apps.
Hope this helps!

S3 i9305

Hi everyone, pretty much my first post on here (second in all honesty) after reading hundreds of post into flashing/installing a custom ROM. I have always ran stock Samsung but with root, but I wanted more and I was fed up with Samsung and other rogue apps causing wakelocks (kind of became an OCD thing trying to get rid of them). Was determined not to ask for help with so many threads saying the same thing, so I just too the plunge and thought fk it yolo and flashed CM10 onto my device.
Didn't really have a clue what I was doing but got there eventually. Used CWM and downloaded what I thought was the only stable version of CM. I scared myself at first as it was just stuck on the CM boot, did a bit of reading and forgot to do the factory reset and wipe, did that and it all ran smoothly.
After spending hours of fiddling last night, I'm now wondering if it's worth getting CM 11 or should I stick to 10? I barely use anything complicated on my phone, solitaire is about the only game that I play, main thing is just battery life and phone functionality and internet browsing. Also are there any settings that I should be looking into?
I always ran one power guard with stock rom, but after installing it onto CM I found it was causing the phone to never enter deep sleep, uninstalled it and it's pretty good now, has anyone else experienced this? Does CM have pretty good built in battery management or should I look at getting some kind of task killer/battery management software? Couldn't risk leaving it unplugged last night to check battery as my gf needed the alarm for this morning and didn't want to risk it going flat in the night and getting an earfull from her
Thanks in advance for any tips/help.
First of all, you need to know what causes the battery drain in our smart phone no matter what ROM to are in.
They are mainly 3things. 1. Data usage, 2. Screen brightness and 3. GPS. So if you turn off data, turn the brightness down and turn off GPS. You will get pretty good battery performance in all Roms.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
for the moment stay with stable CM10...in CM11 are a lot of bugs...today it's working nice...tomorrow it's unusable...
no need for 3rd party software for battery saving...all ROM's have ok battery life...but on stock is a noticeable difference.
Thanks for the replies. After leaving the phone idling for most of the morning I've noticed it's not sleeping. BBS is showing KWL is mdm_hsic_pm0
I've been trawling the net trying to figure out what it is, but everything I've read turns into a dead end. In the android battery stats it shows as Android OS. If i reboot the phone it seems to put it back in check, but obviously I don't want to be rebooting my phone all day!
Got very minimal apps running so it's really confuddling me.
Cheers in advance

That actually depends on your usage. Since you are on stock, your battery should be awesome, but weird that it isn't (especially when you said that it is unrooted).
it could be that your battery has finally reached its state of dying. The way to confirm this is to try another ROM, but that is your decision
To answer to your question, it may make the issue go away.

For the sake of troubleshooting, would you like to root your ROM?
If you do, install Towelroot app on your stock (I am assuming 4.3 Jellybean) and root your device. Afterwards head to SuperSU on Google Play and install it. And proceed to updating the su binary to the latest one.
After your root setup is complete, reboot and install Wakelock Detector. Give it a root access and a refresh for the first time.
Allow your Xperia SP to drain its battery like how you would normally use it. After hours, please screenshot the content of the app and upload it here so I can inspect it
if i use my phone with something like wi-fi ,whatsapp .....etc (not heavy apps) how much time my battery must hold it?
thanks.

Do you think with changing my rom is there any possibility to get better battery drain?
anybody?

You might wanna give more details like what apps you got installed, your usage, your brightness level etc. Also wifi, whatsapp does drain battery. How much screen time were you getting before with the same config? How bad's the drain when the screen off? Like someone mentioned above, you could root your phone and try Wakelock Detector to see if something's constantly preventing your phone from going into deep sleep.
Also your battery could be a dud but like you mentioned you haven't had your phone for long so that probably shouldn't the issue but you might want to make sure of that before switching roms. No point rooting/unlocking your phone and flashing a new rom only to find out that the issue still persists but if you wanna try a LP rom nevertheless, you could always give it a shot.
Much like yourself, I am suffering from rather poor battery life myself but my issue is most likely a dying battery. I am telling you this cause I have tried about a dozen roms and it makes zero difference so changing roms isn't a surefire solution. I use Greenify, PowerNap, keep the brightness rather low plus use a bunch of other battery tweaks but it hardly matters. My battery drains rather quickly either way (screen on or off). Even when my phone's in deep sleep, I still get bad drain so check thoroughly before you make the switch.
Did you check which app or feature is draining more the battery?
Sometimes, doing a factory reset will solve the problem. Have you tried it? Make a backup first.

N920C 3hours Screen On Time... even after replacing battery

Hello!
I have a huge battery problem with my Note 5... I flashed a lot of roms to see if anything changes but it doesn't... I always get max. 3hours of screen on time. Even after installing xposed for amplify and greenify but it doesn't make any difference. In the battdry settings i always get this Android OS bug which is very high. But it doesn't go away with the latest SuperSU or disabling a lot of things in the settings (googled this Android OS bug) I even replaced the battery but it didn't help at all... I'm really desperate...
Perhaps one of you has a solution, that would be fu******* awesome!
Thank you
I found the problem finally!! BLUEDROID_TIMER is causing wakelocks!! If i turn bluetooth off everything is great! But i have bluetooth headphones and i can't find a fix online...
battery drain issue may be the cause for this so try to flash stock rom and then supersu systemless with xposed and check your battery
also it may be an app that you installed causing this wake locks so I suggest making a factory reset if the problem presists

I flashed at least 10 roms with no success... I amplified this bluedroid_timer wakelock and battery sees to be better.
only 3hours of screen time??? I wish i got 2hr

Battery drain is too high - what rom/kernel should I use?

I've been running Nitrogen Oreo for months with Elemental Kernel, I am also on Project Fi. Recently I've noticed my phone wont go into deep sleep and EX reports idle battery drain is ~8% / hour which is way too high.
I don't run any mods etc. My battery health is also good. Should I try another rom/kernel and if so which one. I was thinking of the new Pie roms but I don't think they are fully stable yet esp for things like wifi calling which I depend on.
Usually, it's an app or some special rom setting keeping the phone awake. If you can find out what, it's usually simple to fix.
Sometimes, the stats in settings->battery will tell you what is using the power. Or try app betterbatterystats.
If you can't locate the problem, then an app like greenify may help by forcing the badly behaving app to sleep. Or clean flash without restoring all your current apps.
And yes, stay away from pie if you need WiFi calling.
