[Q] Communicate via bluetooth to an SD card on quadcopter - App - Android Studio

Apologies if my question is outlandish, I only recently started developing with Android. I am developing an app that will download pictures from an SD card attached to an arduino board over bluetooth. The idea is to have a bluetooth transmitter attached to the arduino/SD card and have the phone connect through bluetooth to download the picture. Any idea how tough this would be to figure out?

Anyway, if it helps, just as an FYI, you wouldn't connect to the SD card directly, you would create a communication channel between the 2 bluetooth devices and then send the data which would be stored on the SD card. So you would have an app on the device with the camera which reads the image from the sd card and then sends it to your other bluetooth device. Unfortunately I have only worked with TCP / UDP / Serial communications in the past so can't say exactly how you would do this in Android / Bluetooth but those articles may help, although it is geared toward Eclipse, the code should be the same.

Usb mounting question

I tried searching, no dice. I tried asking in the tips and tricks thread, nobody answered, so I'll ask here. Is there a way to force the G1 into mass storage mode? I want to connect it to my car stereo via usb, but the radio won't detect it, so the G1 never gives me the option to mount. If I could force it into mass storage mode, I'm fairly sure it would connect. Is it a simple terminal command? All help is appreciated.
edit: sorry, misread post ><
I do this occasionally. What I found is that if I have "USB debugging" on in the phone settings the G1 doesn't detect the connection and give me the option to mount the sd card. If I turn it off, it immediately detects the connection.
I leave USB debugging off all the time. Anyone know how to force the SD card into mass storage mode like you could in RC28?
Dowload AnyCut from the market
create a new shortcut
activity
scroll down and pick SD card
the short cut should be on your desktop. I've tried this on my car stereo and couldn't get it to work. Let me know if you better luck
Yah my Pioneer FH-P8000BT hates my G1 USB no workie, just errors out after 20 seconds or so. Pioneer punted when I emailed them saying that they have no plans to update their support of devices with this head unit; bummer. At least receiving calls on it via BT works okay. Hoping with the full bluetooth stack to be released that the voicedialing app might actually revised to be worth a **** so that you can activate it via the stereo like my last phone. And also maybe contact transfer/sync might actually work for me
So close... so frustrating!
Would also love to see a solution to having the option to automount on USB connection, as per OP.

Sorry that doesn't work for you. Just for reference, the G1 recognizes and works with the usb port on the Dual XDM-6400BT just fine. The bluetooth works as well, but I assume all bluetooth capable decks will.
I have the G1 connected to my stereo but I use a converter that came with my diamond. Converts mini usb to stereo 3.5mm or 2.5mm headphone jack. That goes to the crossover which connects to the amp and I have my music without a head unit.
I stopped using the G1 and use my diamond because it comes with a equalizer which makes a noticable difference in sound between the two.

Yah, I've tried both ways; no difference unfortunately. Head unit shows "Format Read" for approx 20 seconds before giving me a "USB N/A" display and doing nothing.
Thus far I've heard of people having success with at least some Clarion and some Dual decks. I can't tell if the phone is to blame or the car stereo manufacturers... seems like obviously somebody isn't supporting the full USB Mass Storage spec properly, but hard to point the finger when the G1 works fine on my computer and the car stereo works fine with a USB thumbdrive. *shrug*

I didn't have to do anything special to get it to work, it just worked the first time I plugged it in. I can tell you some more about my setup. I'm using a 4GB sandisk sd card in the phone. My music is all mp3 and in the path \music\[album name]\*.mp3.

Cool. I have a Kingston 8gb class 4 but I have it partitioned to have my apps run on it. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I'm gonna try it on a different sd card later see what happens
Thanks for the info
Just a quick update for anyone who happens upon this thread. I just upgraded to the 1.5 ION Cupcake version of Android and am happy to report that in conjunction with disabling USB debugging on the G1, my Pioneer FHP800BT / FHP8000BT is now able successfully mount my G1 as a USB device
On a semi-related note, Bluetooth stereo (basic back/next, no browsing or id3 support) and phonebook downloading also work now as well.
Now if only I could convince Google to bring back support for automatic USB mounting and bluetooth/gps toggling via Locale or some such, I'd be a *really* happy camper

[Q] cannot connect to USB Honda car radio

Hi everyone,
I have a 2010 Honda Insight model with a USB compatible car radio.
I have owned other phones and the car radio supports iPhone 3G, Nexus One and an ordinary USB flash drive.
However a Samsung Galaxy S it does want to recognize. It says first USB LOAD and later UNSUPPORTED on the display.
I have tried several methods on the phone after USB is plugged in: click on home button after MTP connect screen appears, put USB in debug mode and choose to connect drive after USB dialog appears.
Does not work with and without external SD.
Is it the MTP background process that bothers the car radio?
Or it does not support drives which are partioned into several filesystems. The first filesystem is FAT32. But why the Nexus One is supported?
Any clues are very welcome!
not sure but this is my guess.
the MTP is not what the car is expecting. It expects a mass storage usb-drive. In settings you will find usb-options. There you can set it to be recognised as a mass storage device instead.
By some odd reason you also have to pull down the infoscreen and click usb, and then click mount
thanks for your help
in my phone i dont have settings to choose MTP vs MSC (mass storage device).
I did choose in info screen for mass storage device and I connected, but the car radio did not want to recognize.
How can I kill the mtp background process? What is the process name?
i have the same problem with my 2009 Civic Si
I tried all of the usb modes, with debugging on and off for each. still no luck.
insteads of USB, use bluetooth
for usb to work, you need to mount the drive, and make it run as a mass storage device
Is there any other solution for a car without Bluetooth?
I also have a Honda Civic with the USB audio and a Galaxy S Captivate phone. Every connect method I've tried so far fails. Has anyone gotten this to work? My car doesn't have Bluetooth.
Any help is appreciated. I am welcome to solutions that include rooting and loading a different ROM.
I have the same problem on Honda stereo... Is it possible to update the care stereo itself? Maybe someone could develope this into a ROM?
I a have a Samsung Vibrant and a 2010 Honda Civic LX. I used a "Dynex - Microphone Headset for Select Music Mobile Phones" Model: DX-MP3MA SKU: 9535327 (from Best Buy) and attached that to my phone. Then I attached a "Dynex 3' 3.5 mm stereo Audio Cable" Model: DX-MP353B SKU: 8915178 to the "Aux" input underneath the "Lighter". It worked PERFECTLY! It also works perfectly when attached to a Yamaha Home Theater System that was made to be compatible with iPhones/iPods. I used the input for "Portable." I hope this helps!
Obviously I attached both cables to one another.
In fact I am listening to Pandora (using Samsung Vibrant) connected to my Yamaha Home Theater right now and it sounds awesome.

If you buy the equipment from Best Buy, you can always return it.
promet, in theory that won't have the same audio quality as connecting the car stereo to the SGS via USB as a USB storage device.

Hey all,
I've been having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy II LTE (almost identical to the "Skyrocket" from AT&T) in my 2010 Honda Civic USB.
For what it's worth, I've managed to get it at least partially working.
I used "Multi Mount SD-Card" (you can find it in Android Market/Google Play, requires root unfortunately) and tried enabling only one SD card to be mounted at a time.
For whatever reason, it works fine if I only share the the internal storage, but not if I share my 32GB external card. Both music folders are identical, so I don't know if it has a problem with the card being used, the size of it, or if I need to low-level format it, etc (hence another round of troubleshooting next week).
So, I've sorta gotten it working, but not the way I want it to be working. I hope this helps someone.

[Q] I9000M Mass Storage and a 2010 Chev Tahoe

Hey there folks, after my battle with Verizon, Bestbuy and Motorola I finally found an Android phone that would work for me (for the most part) up here in Canada. I have only had one issue so far and that would be using it in my vehicle with the USB port on-board.
I've had the phone for a few months now and never really needed this functionality until my 2nd iPod of the year was "liberated" from my vehicle over night. Now since buying the phone I've rooted, installed Darky's ROM series and formated the internal 16GB and external 16GB SD cards before putting my songs onto the external in a folder just labeled 'music'. Here is what I have just so you get a better idea:
-SG:S I9000M (Bell) with Darky Mod/ROM 9.5
-GM Chevrolet Tahoe (2010) with a standard USB port (which apparently works with thumb drives too but I might as well try to get my phone to work, charger + music = winning).
Lots of good R&R, and some really crappy techno (JK I like electronic too & classical as well as long walks on the beach).
-USB connection styles I've tried include: Mass Storage, Debugging, and Media Player (Kies no longer appears since I don't use Touch Wiz).
-The error my vehicle throws out is "Unknown device connected"
So I pose the question: do I need some config file on the SD cards, the phone or in a folder to tell my vehicle what the heck I just plugged in or do I need to put my music in a special folder? I don't know how apple does it, but I hate apple since their latest iPod update (Media Monkey can no longer sync the music without the iPod whining and slitting it's digital wrists about syncing with iTunes) which forced me to install iTunes (which I consider a virus since you absolutely have to install Qtime and it creates shortcuts everywhere and runs at startup).
Any input is appreciated, I did a quick search on XDA and I couldn't find any relevant topics, or I'm incompetent, one or the other.
TL;DR: Galaxy S I9000 + 2010 Tahoe + USB = not working
Looking at how the SGS presents itself to a host device, I believe that it hides its mass storage device (among others, such as networking and ADB connection) under a hub device rather than on its own as would happen with a typical USB thumb drive. The computer cannot read the past this hub device until the Samsung drivers are installed, upon which the mass storage device is then visible.
I tried hooking my SGS up to a digital photo frame once and the photo frame couldn't read it since it couldn't see a mass storage device. So unless you can somehow install the Samsung drivers onto your truck, I'm afraid you're SOL. At least, until a talented kernel developer here recodes the SGS's USB driver to expose the mass storage device natively.
when you plug the sgs into your truck, do you get the option to connect USB storage?
edit: just noticed you've already tried that.
yeah it might be up to the kernel dev's to do something about it - it would be great if there was an option to make it show up as a giant USB stick!
When I plug my I9000M into my desktop via USB it automatically mounts the 2 SD cards without having to do the windows "search for drivers" and under device management the 2 SD cards show up as portable devices. I think what I will do is remove the external SD card before plugging it in to see if it's confusing the onboard system (in the vehicle) by trying to mount 2 separate SD cards. My apologies for the slack spelling and grammar, I just woke up, I may edit the post later today as well as update on my progress.

OTG 3G and SD

Hello
I was wondering if someone could kindly advise me on this. I am basically going travelling in a little over a month, and would like to bring my Touchpad with me. There are a few slight hiccups, and I was wondering if these plans would work.
I need to store pictures taken from a camera on the TouchPad, to then upload to my Dropbox account. I was wondering if anyone knows either of these configurations would work;
- Micro USB to USB (Female)
- USB Female to insert SD Card adapter
- Copy photos over to Touchpad
OR
- Use THIS CONNECTOR (link goes to Amazon page)
- Insert SD card into that
---
My next question relates to 3G. Would it be possible to (again) use a micro usb to USB Female adapter (with OTG) and then insert a 3G dongle into that? This is less important, as I can still get WiFi access every so often!
Thanks for the help - I will, of course, hit the thanks button for any useful responses.
A quick search of the forum would get you to the issues of OTG and connecting anything external (particularly on the move). You need to find a way of injecting power into the TP micro-USB to get OTG to work. Some hav edone this with battery powered hubs but there is no clean and elegant solution and if you want something light, simple and reliable on your journey you may be better off with a different tablet.
One solution for your photos though which I have used is a WiFi SD Card in the camera that will allow the tablet to get at the photos (if your camera can take that).
Finally, for 3G, other than the OTG issues, you would also need to check out kernel support for whatever dongle you are using within whatever ROM variant you used.

Thanks for the response.
I had seen various discussion of OTG, which have been nothing short of confusing - simply because of the many different conversations going on! I am trying to avoid the need to buy another device - whilst I have the funds in my bank account, I already need to get another camera (well, I say need - I would like to, going to get the Panasonic Lumix TZ40). Whilst it has WiFi, I am not totally sure how that will work on a potentially dodgy WiFi connection and also how it will work with Android. I am currently using Milaq's CM 10.2.
I should point out I would be happy to give any ROM a spin whilst travelling, simply to get this to work.
The OTG situation is certainly not clear cut and because of the extra items needed to get it to work, not at all ideal if you are on the move. I am not sure how the WiFi works on that camera, but I have used the Transcend WiFi SD card in my Sony Bridge camera and it acts as a hot-spot so does not depend on any other WiFi around. I am pretty sure the Eye-Fi works that way to. You should be able to find the camera manual online to check what WiFi modes you would get but that would be the most suitable means of linking camera to TP.
EDIT: Confirmed that Lumix TZ40 can connect using WiFi to phone or tablet and they have their own app to manage it (search for 'Panasonic Image App')

Certainly agree it wouldn't be ideal on the move, I am trying my best to not need to pay out another £240 for a Nexus 7 or £319 for an iPad Mini though!
This has just occurred to me, on the basis the TZ40 is obviously self powered, and OTG can work on the Touchpad if there is a power source, would it simply work if I used a micro usb to mico usb cable? Although judging by the fact Amazon only has one listing for this, I doubt it... a Nexus would be ideal though, given how both devices have NFC ;(

When you say "transmits a WiFi hotspot", I assume that still leaves me with the issue that I need some form of WiFi in the first place. This is my concern, as some of the places I'll be visiting really won't be feasible in terms of transferring 1gb of photos on a potentially woefully slow wifi network . Apologies if I have missed the point there, I'll hit the thanks button for any help!

The device creates its own WiFi signal which the touchpad can connect to as it would any other network. This can work independently of an internet connected WiFi network. I used mine at goodwood festival of speed to transfer images from my DSLR camera to my touchpad.
Its essentially the same as using the WiFi SD cards that another user above mentioned.
I have used OTG on the touchpad with CM9 but it required a specific kernel and a USB Y cable and an external battery pack, it was quicker at transferring files that WiFi but not exactly portable. Hope that kinda helps.

Oh blimey I see! Thanks - I assumed you'd still need a provider (like you normally would, ie. BT, TalkTalk, Virgin in the UK..
Thanks very much
Ah that's a better way of putting it, I was struggling trying to think of how to explained it, yeah no provider necessary.
What smartphone have you got? As many support OTG with a simple adaptor and then you would have 3G and be able to upload photos.

Music to car over USB

Hi, looking for some help/advice please.
I've just taken ownership of a new car and, as it was dealer stock it didn't have Bluetooth audio as standard. I have tried connecting my phone via USB but to no avail. In my old car music would not work over USB but I got over this as I could stream over Bluetooth. For info the old car was a Ford and the new car is a BMW. I have updated the headunit in the car with the latest software and my phone has all updates applied. I have also tried connecting via MTP and MSC. As MTP my car sees the internal memory but not the external SD card. In MSC my car does not see the phone at all. I read somewhere about KitKat changing the access over USB to the SD card but I don't recall it working on the old car previously (although this was always MTP).
Anyone have any experience of the phone working over USB with a 2014 BMW fitted with the professional head unit? Is there a different ROM I can install on my phone to get it working (currently stock). Ideally I wouldn't want to change the ROM on my phone but my options at the moment are either change the software on the phone, change the phone or program extended Bluetooth on my car and invalidate the warranty.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Mark
Are you able to play music from the internal memory via USB? If so, could you use folder mount to make a link from an internal folder to one in the external SD?

I didn't have any music on the internal SD card but I do remember seeing the internal card on one of the tests I did. I'm at work at the moment so without my car for another week but I'll give that a try. I'll also have a read on rooting my phone as I see that folder mount requires root. I've definitely got some learning to do .
Thanks for your suggestion and I'll let you know how I get one.
