[GUIDE] Re-enable Deep Sleep after Rooting - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

If you haven't noticed yet, rooting with either CF-Auto Root or installing TWRP may cause your device to no longer go into deep sleep.
However, we can gain deep sleep back by flashing the stock recovery and then using it to wipe cache (do it twice for good measure).
So, in order to have root + deep sleep, we will do the following:
1. Root with either CF-Auto Root or install TWRP and flash SuperSU
2. Download the stock G920T recovery here
3. Download Flashify and use it to flash the stock recovery
4. Reboot into stock recovery, press power+volume down to bring up the menu (you may have to do this several times, time them together as well as you can), and wipe cache
5. Reboot
Voila, now we have root and deep sleep
For those of you who want to keep TWRP, it should be safe to flash it again after wiping cache with the stock recovery.
CREDITS: info found in this S6 Edge thread adapted for us regular S6 users

My device is going into deep sleep just fine after rooting with cf auto root and even after flashing TWRP. Not saying there isn't an issue, its that I haven't experienced anything of the sort.

I'm able to substantiate that with my experience too.
I'm rooted and BBS says that I'm still entering deep sleep. Is BBS wrong, or does rooting only affect S6 Edge users?

It's just not the edge guys, I had the exact same problem with my regular s6 not going into deep sleep, flashing the stock recovery has seemed to fix it
sent from my pimped out phone

Damn, you're right. My T-mo S6 hasn't been going into deep sleep. I wouldn't have even thought to look.

How do you check this? Is deep sleep below 400mhz?

Cpu Spy is also saying my phone has been in deep sleep. Battery life has been consistent for me. I wonder how some people are having issues and others aren't.

Yes it's below 400mhz. Use an app like cpu spy and be rooted.

For what it's worth, I used the CF Auto Root tool and in the details of the post, he says that the stock recovery is restored at the end of the procedure, so this could be why I'm not seeing any difference in deep sleep.
I have no way of accounting for why people with TWRP + Root aren't affected, but I just wanted to update my anecdotal data so I'm not misleading :]

It is quite strange, it seems there isn't a pattern based on rooting method. Some people have deep sleep, some don't.
I tried CF Auto Root and lost deep sleep. Restored stock firmware and got it back. Then flashed TWRP and SuperSU and lost deep sleep again. Then I flashed back the stock recovery and got deep sleep back.
I created a poll to let others document what happened to them. Unfortunately, I made a typo in my rush. It should say:
Did you have deep sleep immediately after rooting without additional steps required?

So basically I'm affected by this? I did cf autoroot through Odin.

Thank you @bigxie, working nicely. I was getting so frustrated with my brand new bad ass S6 and that ****ty battery life lol. :good:

I can confirm. I wasn't aware of this issue last week when I used CF-root via Odin to root my S6. I did flash TWRP this morning, and then came across this thread. When I opened CPU Spy, I noticed my phone was only dropping down to 400MHz. So, I flashed the stock recovery. Now, I've got deep sleep back.
Therefore, I'm not sure if rooting or flashing TWRP caused the issue.

Got deep sleep back!! Thanks bud. When I first booted up I had no data and freaked out because there's no toggle anymore (thread on it in apps though, next stop) but after getting into settings and toggling it I was back on 4G.

question is 400mhz deep sleep?

No.

ok then i have never had deep sleep... I have powermanagerservice.wakelocks keeping me awake.

Can confirm also my deep sleep is back! Noticed the other day it only got to 400, flashed root with Chainfire a little over a week ago, battery life hasn't been the best. Will see tomorrow with a full charge what difference this makes.

The only step I did to get deep sleep back was to wipe cache, but then I only just put TWRP on today, and even still I didn't lose deep sleep from doing that either.

Hmm, I'll have to try that when I get a chance. Then again, I really don't need TWRP until some roms become available.

Should deep sleep show up automatically in cpu spy when it's functioning correctly? Apparently I lost deep sleep also because CPU spy lists 400 mhz as the lowest it's been.
edit: nvm flashed stock recovery and deep sleep started showing up in cpu spy. Strange

The release notes just said various bug fixes.
But don't do it, it locks the BL and you cannot downgrade. The Root method for 5.1.1 was patched, and there is a problem with battery drain from the system keeping wifi active. ( I already went through everything to disabling wifi scanning, smart switch, Volte, etc. ) And it's still present.
The battery drain isn't as bad as it used to be, I am losing something like 3-5 percent per hour. With everything disabled that can be being un rooted.

What in the world are you talking about?
Ha sorry about that.
So I flashed this, not really thinking. My own fault for not thinking.
1. This has a bootloader that prevents downgrading.
2. And my battery now showing high WiFi active usage.
Also it's saying my screen is being used when its off.
Ive got WiFi scanning , volte and the common things discussed on here that would drain the battery. All of it is disabled.
3. I know the 5.1.1 root method didn't work because I can't overwrite the BL.
So after flashing this, Im losing 3-4 percent an hour with screen off. When I used to see especially on your rom I would loose like 1percent /h.

You been told lies. No issues when you root. It's when you don't know what you're doing when you decide to remove system apps you don't use
You must of miss read alot.....
Rooting you will loose:
Google Movies
New Google Pay
Some loss Netflix, depending on if you change your build.prop.
Do not flash this if your phone is rooted and working. This locks bootloader and odin fails to flash previous firmware. Also mobile data is throttled to 64kbp. Not faster or slower. Massive heating issues as well.

I'm confused, I'm on COF8, rooted and using Xtresolite v2.3...should I not flash this new modem or not?
Do not flash this firmware. Stay on last stock img if your phone is working fully.
Let me clarify some shiz here........
There is NOTHING wrong with this firmware.
It DOES NOT lock down the bootloader.
It DOES Not cause your phone to get hot.
So stop with the shiz you are saying before you have people freaking out over nothing.........

Battery life really bad

The battery life that i am getting is just 7-8 hrs which i think is really really bad on the Note 5, the phone is just a month old.
Android OS is consuming the most of the battery please help me with the fix
Attached is the screenshot of the battery stats.
Yeah, the battery life of this device kind of sucks without any modifications. Don't worry, I was equally disappointed too - it's not just your device.
You should proceed to root your device if you are seriously wanting to do something about battery.
Once you're rooted, you may:
-Install ForceDoze, to force it to not wakeup anywhere near as much when the device is not being used.
-Install Greenify, to automagically freeze all unneeded apps (donate for system). This will speed up your phone, free memory and save battery.
-You can install and try L-Speed, which should help your battery out a lot when using an unoptimised Samsung firmware.
-And finally installing Xposed, which may require a little research. This will let you enable all of the modules provided by the above programs to give you deeper system integration. Ultimately saving you battery. Set Greenifies working mode from root to xposed in settings.
I can't help you out with a custom note 7 based ROM as they all seem to be broken in some way at this stage.

Thanks for your help BTW i will not be installing Xposed, but i will suerly do the L-speed, Greenify and ForceDoze. Any thing else that i should do to recover from this battery issue and be on stock as far as possible ?
You can use Agressive Doze in Greenify without root. It will help putting the phone in Doze mode much quicker. It looks like something is keeping the phone awake pretty much all the time.

Hi, if you have Knox tripped (0x1) then don't bother with software solutions... you need custom kernel either Sickness either SkyHigh. I have spend 2 months in research. First install latest TWRP and them install the new kernel. After that you will lose just 6% overnight instead of 50%.

First things first. We are talking about Marshmallow right???
Rooting is different than installing a custom kernel. Trust me, most of the people don't care about root but only to fix their phone.
IF you have a tripped knox don't go and install, or even worst buy, any applications promising to make battery last longer or 50% overnight to go down to 6%. They cannot...
I will tell you my use case and you will figure out what you want.
I have a Note 5 N9208 with tripped knox. Battery drains horribly losing 8-10% per hour. This is because of tripped knox and all software solutions (Greenify, Naptime, ForceDoze etc) are useless since you CANNOT put the processors to 0 frequency and the only way to solve it is with a customer kernel.
For my model I installed The Sickness kernel. For N920C Dr. Ketan has a kernel which might be good for other models too.
Steps:
Install TWRP from here . Select your model and install it with Odin in AP section.
Install kernel from Sickness for N9208 or arter97 for other models or DR. Ketan's kernel for N920C . It will be a .zip file containing a boot.img file somewhere. Copy the .zip file to a local folder on the mobile and after you boot into TWRP recovery select install and then flash the file.
After installation you are fixed BUT you MIGHT lose the functionality of keeping the WiFi passwords after reboot. THIS is the part where you need to be root.
If the kernel didn't installed SuperSU then install with TWRP SuperSU from here (Some kernels they don't inject SuperSU or installation is damaged). Install BuildProp editor from Google Play , give root permissions and search for 'storage'. Make parameter ro.secure.storage = false and save then reboot.
Unroot from superSU menu to regain access to banking applications. You might need to clear their cache and data if they have already identified the device as rooted.
Don't be afraid as the steps do not need to be executed all together and at once.
Flash TWRP and gain some familiarity with it. It's a nice recovery environment which you enter the same way like the official one. Check also what is the impact in your phone from changing the recovery.
Then copy all the files in you phone and install BuildProp too so you will have it ready. Also It would be nice to BUY and install Package Disabler pro. it is cheap and it will help you to get rid of the annoying messages regarding Unauthorized software etc.
After all these, you can discuss with many wise guys regarding Greenify and Forsedoze and blah blah on how to make your battery EVEN better.

There is no magic trick bro. Our phones have to light up 5.7 inches with high definition with 2 sim cards and 4G data coming and going all the time ...
ForceDoze works without root but needs to execute a commandline through ADB. To be honest I don't care since Doze fixed and I cannot measure performance.
From engineering point of view, I have to say that all these applications are nice when you don't use your phone.
If you talk too much or browse too much they are USELESS. If you saw my printscreen, I had a very good overnight behavior but during day I drained the phone since I was talking all day and I was not leaving the phone to rest...

With ForceDoze you will be ok. It has complete instructions on how to install it without root. Try to do it after unrooting in order to show you the workaround method. However. It is not doing anything without the Doze patch that kernels are installing.

yes, if I start in custom recovery I have twrp working but when I start the os I've a bootloop. Also I tried wiping cache and system but no luck, bootloop.
Try with stock firmware from smartswitch and then flash twrp. From what you said you are flashing an image not from samsung.

Tate power drain is high in sleep mode

Kindle Fire HD7 X43Z60 tate
D025 seems to be 16GB.
I do not know the history of the device.
I got it at a swapmeet.
Stuck in a TWRP boot loop.
I have no idea what I'm doing.
I built a factory cable and followed this tutorial:
1. adb reboot bootloader (then in Fastboot mode) IIRC, I didn't have to do this, factory cable put it in fastboot.
2. fastboot -i0x1949 flash recovery philz_touch_6.48.4-tate.img

Android 6.0.1
kernel [email protected]#1
I had to replace the camera app and the launcher to make it
usable. Seems to do what I want.
Problem now is that battery drain is high in sleep mode.
I don't have any problem with working battery life. I'd just like to
be able to let it sleep for a few days and still have some battery left.
Battery is down ~50% in 24 hours of sleep.
The slope of the graph suggests that it's a constant load.
The "what's using the battery screen"
says it's almost all ANDROID OS.
Awake seems to be ON even in sleep.
On my other devices with stock ROMs, awake is OFF in sleep.
Everything else is very small.
In particular, wifi is about zero. Screen is about zero.
This does not appear to have anything to do with wifi.
Is there a fix for this? Configuration change? Different ROM?
Standby battery life is more important than the latest update.
There are literally thousands of pages on XDA about the battery problem,
but none seem to be specific to tate. Android nomenclature is not very
clear. It's difficult to determine exactly what applies to tate.
I've already turned off everything I can think of.
Problem is that the threads span 5 years. They start out with "this works"
and typically end with "this will permanently brick your tablet if you start
from the wrong state." Since I'm already at Cyanogenmod,
I'm assuming that's not an issue. Is that true?
I have no idea what I'm doing. I'M AFRAID TO BRICK IT.
I'm assuming that all I need to do is fastboot -i0x1949 boot philz_touch_6.48.4-tate.img
with a different .img file and leave the recovery alone. True?
If there's a fix, I want it. If not, I don't want to be trying every version
of ROM and risk breaking it.
Can anybody share a known working sleep power drain fix for tate that's safe for a newbie
to attempt?
Thanks,

3. fastboot -i0x1949 boot philz_touch_6.48.4-tate.img

Now it boots and seems to be working.
TWRP seems to be gone.
It claims to be Cyanogen 13.0-20160214-UNOFFICIAL-tate.
Can anybody share a known working sleep power drain fix for tate that's safe for a newbie
to attempt?
Thanks,

Not sure what the battery drain is here dude, mine's the complete opposite. I can have it in standby for up to 5 days and I'm running the latest resurrection remix rom.
My galaxy tab 2 on the other hand..... That's crap.

Are you saying that you install it on a Kindle Fire HD tate?
If so, can you point me to the correct version to install?
Thanks, mike

Thanks,
I never got anywhere with resurrection remix . On boot, it offers me two options for launcher, but neither
does anything. I'm dead in the water, stuck in the select launcher loop.
I did finally find BeanStalk-6.25...-tate
Everything seems to be working with OpenCamera
and standby consumption is very low.
I think I'm good to go.
I played with LineageOS. I liked it, but never could make the camera work.
Also had some issues with SAMBA shared files on my windows network
using my favorite File Expert HD,
but TotalCommander made that work.

Fix Wakelock without root (my usb flex is broken!)

Hi
I have an 920i Note 5. My usb is broken so I can't connect to the pc. I noticed that my phone never goes deep sleep. Always cpu sets in 400mhz. So, I tried to deactivate Google Account Sync, and some packages using the Package Disabler. The problem is that I cant fix it. Tried to clear cache, format data, etc. But the deep sleep never fixes. It uses more battery when it is with the screen turned off, that in the inverse way.
Somebody can give me any hint?
Thanks!

Have you rooted your device or Running stock from beginning? If your device is rooted already i.e to flash custom roms or kernels etc and now you have reverted back to stock thats why facing deep sleep issue theb here is solution by dr.ketan
**Your device must be rooted to use this deep sleep fix patch comes as .apk, it will not work on stock firmware without root as it needs supersu root access**

I tought that the fact that has been rooted could be a problem. MY brother has rooted the phone, and then back to stock ROM (now is on official). The problem is that I cant root again, because I can't use Odin...

You have to root your device again and apply deep sleep fix if you want to overcome that issue..And original usb of Samsung is not that much expensive i.e you can't afford it..If your phone's usb port is broken then it might be costly..By the way once you rooted ypur device, knox get tripped and you will face huge battery drain after reverting back to stock..So the solution i have provided already..Refer suggested thread and you will come to know everything regarding rooting, deep slip..

Right, that's the problem. My USB port is broken. I have already bought the spare part, but it will take one month or more to arrive. So, now I have my note with no possible connection to PC so I can use Odin, to root and get the deep sleep issue fixed. There's no way to root without using Odin? Just my phone and Wi-Fi adb or something?

I didn't find any one click root method i.e. rooting without pc using apk like kingroot or kingoroot or one click root apk..But it depends on which version your running, if 5.0.1 then you might get rooted with apk and if 6.0.1 i don't think one click root is available..But still you can google it 'how to root Samsung galaxy note 5 running marshmallow without using pc'

Yeah, I've tried that, but didn't work. I suppose I have to wait for the spare part and fix mypport.

Yes waiting is preferred rather than doing anything that will end up having dead piece of metal and glass...

SM-N920P Really need help with deep sleep battery life and TWRP! Will donate for help

Hey Guys,
Long story short, I had my Sprint Note 5 rooted a while ago! due to some apps screwing me over and not allowing to use them due to being rooted I unrooted (via supersu)
Realized ever since I rooted my battery was totally crap and figured after I unroot it would help (it didn't) read about how it trips the Knox and it affects the deep sleep of the phone (thus **** battery life)
I read on here to just load a kernel in order to fix the deep sleep issue. I've rooted and loaded kernels before on other phones (no issues everrrrr).
When I looked up the TWRP version to use and flash via Odin it said successful. Phone restarted and it never came back up again. I downloaded literally all of the TWRP versions they had on their site, flashed all of them via odin and none of them would get me out of the boot loop. I got completely screwed and had to load a stock firmware from that sam site to get my phone working again. Everything was completely lost on my phone. pics that were never backed up
Due to that, I have been totally hesitant to try this again as that was the only way to fix my phone. I am willing to try again but really want to go into this prepared and have it be a smooth process ( I already backed up ALL of my files on my computer) I don't really care for TWRP or Kernels but I just want to fix the stupid deep sleep issue. I read somewhere on here that people having bootloops from twrp on note 5s was due to not being rooted first? I've also seen (as I did this almost 8 months ago) there are new TWRP versions since then, but afraid to even do those.
Is there a solution I can do to just fix the damn deep sleep issue? phone literally last 2-3 hours idle. Willing to donate via paypal to someone to help walk through it. This is a sprint variant note 5
thanks in advance
TWRP for your phone is here :
https://dl.twrp.me/nobleltespr/
When flashing in Odin are you using the AP slot to load twrp?
You can keep the rom stock and root with magisk or go custom. Looks like the sprint page for the note 5 is still relatively active.
Use Smart Switch to restore your phone, even update it to the latest build (DQG2). This will reinstall EVERYTHING you have modded. Maybe a 4 file firmware could be used via Odin. Now download the newest TWRP from the link phuhcue gave you. Install it via Odin. Put the recovery in the AP Slot. To root, you can use Magisk or SuperSU. I use Magisk because it can pass Google's Safety Net, so you can still watch Netflix or use apps like Pokemon GO or Snapchat.
After Odin installs the recovery it will reboot, this is where you need to be very fast and enter recovery mode and install 2 files:
Latest Magisk: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
IMMEDIATELY after installing Magisk this file might be necessary: samsung-antiroot-removal-4.1.zip (I tried not to use it but my phone bootloops) https://build.nethunter.com/samsung-tools/samsung-antiroot-removal/ After installing both .zips you can reboot and voila! you have root + custom recovery.
This is the method I've using since our Sprint phones got the Nougat update. The tutorial can be found here: http://galaxynote5root.com/galaxy-n...galaxy-note-5-on-android-7-0-nougat-w-magisk/
Magisk is the shiznit yo! I'VE NEVER HAD DEEP SLEEP ISSUES, RANDOM REBOOTS OR OTHER FAILURES ON MY SM-N920P ALWAYS RUNNING THE LATEST NOUGAT BUILD. Rooted Marshmallow was buggy and laggy as hell, so I never rooted my phone until Nougat came out. The Sprint model is NOT affected by the tripped KNOX.
