[Q] Facebook Contacts Still Showing in Contacts, Unable to Hide - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

Hi, I have the T-Mobile Samsung S6 and I synced my Facebook Contacts. I realized the stock Contacts App displays all my contacts, so I selected Customized List under Contacts to Display and unchecked Facebook ALL Contacts. However, even after doing this my Facebook contacts STILL show in the list. Has anyone been successful in keeping Facebook Sync on but NOT having them display under Contacts?

Really? No one else?

I'm betting you have sync contacts checked within the actual facebook app. Go to the facebook app...then go to app settings....scroll all the way to the bottom.....is sync contacts on?

Yes that is correct. I have it set on "Sync with Existing Contacts". Problem is, instead of syncing with existing contacts, it syncs all of my Facebook contacts and shows it in the Contact phone book, regardless if they were an existing contact or not.

You might want to try out Haxsync from the Playstore. Reviews are good...might be worth the $1.00.
EDIT: I just checked out the app in the playstore....I might be wrong. It hasnt been updated since 2013 lol

lol ok well seems like there isn't a quick solution to this.. .probably something with Samsung or Facebook's side. Thanks for the research though! I recall using Haxsync many years ago as well. It kinda solved some issues with syncing, though not perfect. I doubt any phone really needs it now lol, given no update since 2013

Facebook pics on contacts

So suddenly my contacts that are joined with my facebook friends aren't sharing the pics. Used to be that whenever I would get Call or a text the contacts name would show up with their facebook picture. Now all of a sudden it just shows an android pix. Although the facebook pix will show up in the contacts page. Anyone have any ideas? Im using com rom 2.1 and this high voltage reenergized.
Here is what I do. I use the Max os x address book and sync it to my Google account, and there is an app that sybcs Facebook info with address book. So I sync Facebook and address book, then address book with Google, the Google with the phone. Haha.

Have you tried setting defaults, with joined contacts, to facebook pics?

There is no option to link photos in the app. Does it do it automatically? Been a few hours since installed and nothing has changed.
Here's a question to all: is this linked account done via the Facebook app or SNS? I noticed personally that pictures would only show up with SNS configured.
How do you set defaults? Been looking around on phone and can't find anything. Also, I sync using facebook so everything isn't doubled up. Is that why the pics aren't linking?
I have the same issue

You can tell the Facebook app to not sync contacts, and tell SNS to sync contacts, and you won't double up. That's been my experience on CR2.1.
Running ComRom 2.1 and have had same problem. SyncMyPix didn't work for me, but I did find a workaround.
I downloaded and installed 'Phonebook' from Market. It is a contact replacement app. I logged into Facebook through the app and it matched my existing contacts and it automatically downloaded their Facebook pictures and replaced all the Contact pictures.
Now when I go back into 'Contacts' all the latest Facebook profile pictures are with the contacts. And the photos also appear for incoming calls and text messages.
Hope that helps.
You gotta go into facebook settings. And then select, "Sync existing contacts with facebook contacts". The names have to be exactly the same as well or else it won't sync automatically. Otherwise you'd just have to link it manually.
is there a way to link contacts in cm7?
Go into market and search "syncmypix"
It takes all the pictures for contacts you have and uploads them to Google contacts

1) Go into your Google contact
2) Select menu -> edit
3) Menu -> join
4) Profit
sweet but a pain in the ass from when just needed to click menu on contact and go join. But good find none the less!

You are 100% correct. I disable the facebook app from syncing. Then I re-created the SNS facebook sync, and joined my contacts again. Everything shows up.

FB Contacts

Is there a way to only sync photos with existing contacts from Facebook? For some reason, all of my Facebook contacts are now in my phone and I don't really need them all there. Is there a way to fix this?
EDIT: Figured it out. For anyone wondering, all you do is Open Contacts -> Press Menu button -> Display Options and then un-check Facebook and it will clear out your FB Contacts, but leave the ones you entered yourself.
Thank you so much for this! I deleted all of the fb contacts that got added by hand then they all synced back again... I was like wtf dude.... glad I searched and found this, I was going to make a new thread!

yep, just install Facebook, launch it and it'll ask (the first time...after logging in) "sync all contacts" or "sync only existing contacts" Choose existing. Done.
I was having issues with this working the way I wanted, so I just used SyncMyPix. Does syncing it using the FB app or using and FB account sync more than just the pictures?

[Q] LG 4X HD Exchange account

Hello folks,
Just bought this phone, and before this one I had Desire S.
So I have set up my company account for Exchange Mail, and I have one issue.
No matter if I have set to sync my accounts or not, I recieve emails on my Excahne account whenever I am online, WiFi or 3g. I have set sync to off, for everything, and I still recieve emails on Exchange. But no for Gmail app, for example. Its like, Exchange syncs itself no matter what.
When I go in the settings/accounts&sync and then under Microsoft Exchange, I see only checkboxes for Calendar and Contacts, but not for Mail. This was no case on HTC, I could choose what to sync and when to sync.
Also, there is no option to set low and peak time, for checking mail, for example, to choose to push my email from 8am to 4pm and then to check my email on every hour from 4pm until 8am, also to choose days of the week.
HTC have this option, so does SGS3, even Symbian Nokia.
Am I missing something? Can someone help?
I have root and I am on v10h.
Thanx
Are you using the LG Exchange client?
Yes, I am.
Under Sync settings it should have something that says LG Sync, and under it should be Exchange.. you go in there and you got no mail sync properties?

OK
So on the first image, you can se that my sinc is off, but my Exchange is still syncing every time I am online , and that is not the case with my Skype and Google account. They sync onlye when I am online AND I have sync ON.
And, when I go under Exchange, I can only select Contacts and Calendar, but not Mail.
Thx
IF I were you, I would remove settings and try sync again.. maybe you hit a bug? idk.

To remove all the contacts, go to Settings/Apps and clear data for Contacts and Contacts Storage.. that will delete all the contacts from your phone.. but with the next sync, all will come again..
EDIT: to permanently remove the contacts, calendar entries from your phone, clear data for contacts and calendar and then remove the google account..
Note: that does not remove your contacts and calendar entries from google.. once you configure the same gmail id, all will be synced again..

Is your google sync on and do you take and restore local backup of your contacts? Looks like your contacts at google are messed up.. so what you can do is to go to contacts.google.com and clear out the entries.. then sync your phone..
Later when you create a new contact, make it a google contact.. the above option will work then and you will alleviate the risk of replicating your contacts..
I had also faced the same issue where before flashing a ROM I used to take a local copy and then restore.. it resulted in multiple entries for same contact and calendar at google's end..
But what if I don't want to sync my phone with google?

In that case, after you have configured your phone with your google account, go to settings/Accounts and select google.. there uncheck all the entries you do not want to sync.. for example if you want to sync only gmail, then uncheck all other than gmail..
ok that works, thanks!
But annoying to always delete these google account contacts

great it worked..
it is the design.. perhaps some later android release will ask whether the user wants to sync contacts etc.. till then we need to live with it..

Not all contacts syncing

Hi,
I'm using a Nokia 8 since yesterday. Setup went well, it directly downloaded and installed Android 8.0.
Everything seemed fine, until I noticed that some of my contacts (synced from my Google account) were missing. I tried virtually everything to make them appear:
Invoke the sync manually
Delete data of both the contacts app and the contact storage app
Reset the phone to factory defaults
Export, delet, and re-import all contacts from my Google account
None of this made the missing contacts appear on my phone.
It seems that the contacts affected are (mostly) those which are also linked to a Google+ account. I removed the link to the Google+ profile from three, and afterwards, these contacts appeared on my phone. However, I don't want to do this manually for every contact, and I also found at least one with no link to Google+ who is also not synced.
Oddly enough, I also have a Pixel C running Android 8 with exactly the same version of the contacts app and no sync problems whatsoever.
Does anyone have the same problem or at least some idea what might be causing it or how to solve it? I'm about to return the phone while it is still possible, though I really like it so far apart from this issue.
I'm having the same issue under 7.1.1 on a new Nokia 8. Sorry this isn't much help, I'm hoping the issue will be Google sync related, and rectify itself.
My friends Nokia 8 is not having this issue.
I found a workaround, but it's could be tedious if you have lots of unsync'd contacts.
I loaded up my contacts list in a browser ( https://contacts.google.com ) and on my phone, then manually identified the contacts that had not sync'd.
In the browser I added a character to any field for each of the contacts that failed to sync. Those contacts then immediately appeared on my phone.
Most of the contacts that gave me issues had Google+ profiles. It's pain in the backside, and you shouldn't need to do this, but it does seem to work.
Thank you for you reply. I feel relieved not to be the only one having such problems. I can also confirm that the problems seems to relate to Google+ profiles.
I found out that several people are reporting this problem in the app reviews: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.contacts (at least here in Germany). So it seems this is a bug that was introduced with some update of the app - and hopefully will be fixed soon...
I just reset my phone (again), and now all contacts seem to be synced.
I don't think it has to do with the reset (as this wasn't of any effect before), perhaps Google just fixed the issue...
I'm glad you've resolved the issue with your phone. It's a really nice piece of hardware. I hope you enjoy it.

For anyone who is following the thread and having the same problem, the solution seems to be to clear contacts storage, this isn't the same as clearing data on the contacts app.

Not working here.
Problem here is Google contact not getting WhatsApp contact list or Telegram.
Only Google contacts shown in contacts and all lists are ticked.
