SPH-L720T 5.0 Released 4-16-15 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

As of now, only the L720T tri-band http://support.sprint.com/support/a...ndUpdateTheSoftwareVersionOnYourSamsungGalaxy
As usual, the 720 is the "red headed stepchild"....no lollipop yet...

NOOOO!!!! Why can't they just release both... I've been waiting for this
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk

lol. the 720 will be lucky to get the update a month from now unless Sprint mysteriously forgets it all together... wouldn't surprise me

The RDF for the 720 is also at OD1 so sprint has is near completion. I just don't know why they won't push both at the same time
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk

Did anyone receive the update yet or is anyone able to pull it to possibly share and test?

Well, strangely enough, Sprint has now pulled the update and it has been removed from the update list page. WOW Sprint! Pretty pathetic....

So perhaps something came up on one or more of the test devices not previously seen, it happens.
If that is the case, I personally prefer the that they pull it to fix the issue before it makes it out too thousands of users phones. And suspending rollout makes more business sense than causing customers problems, perhaps even severe problems. :good:

i'm thinking more and more that this will be the case.
even more insulting would be for them to release 5.0.0 and then stop there.

I hope not... They should release both updates at the same time.. It's most likely going to be 5.0.1 and possibly the last update. I find myself checking the sprint support page almost 3 times a day for the past month.

Wait until it's released

Is there any change on the root impossibility without flashing rooted rom? I've been away from the game forever. Sorry

We won't know until it is released. This update hasn't been released yet. Most likely the typical root method work (cf atuo root and towel root) supersu is already up to date for lollipop OS so if you are rooted just wait till someone makes the stock rom a flashable zip or if you are stock just use any method to root. Remember to back up internal storage as unlocking the bootloader wipes everything.

Considering every other Samsung phone on Lollipop, including the S6, has been rooted the same way as KitKat (CF Auto Root or flash SuperSU.zip in recovery), I think we'll be fine. "Unlocking the bootloader wipes everything"? There are so many things wrong with that statement. Odining a stock tar is the only thing that wipes internal storage (and not all of them do). There is no unlocking of the bootloader on Samsung phones. You flash a custom recovery or if using CF Auto Root it flashes the su binary to system/bin... no wiping on either.

New Update? [Stock GPe]

I just got an update to JWR66Y.H1. Am I late or does no one else know what I'm talking about?
Download was 15.1MB but I didn't even think to logcat and I've lost root. I just put it back to GPe stock recently, so I'm wondering if I'm just late to this update. Anyone want to chime in?

I have pushed this and then used the stock recovery to load it and has worked fine Thanks, saves me waiting for the OTA.
I've flash the update via CWM 6.0.3.1. Its work fine on ne GPE Rom. I must reflash the SuperSU, because it doesn't work after the update.
But my Kernel wasn't updated to "3.4.10-gd58931"... maybe this update also includes this kernel version not.

OTA's normally require the original/vanilla rescue system and not CWM
Is there anyway to update and keep root as thats the only thing stopping me from updating it
Just update and then flash the SuperSU package from chainfire

Then does the OTA Update do anything if you flash it with CWM?
Has anyone posted a stock system image from JWR66Y.H1 suitable for flashing with CWM recovery yet?
I know, I'm being super impatient I didn't have any luck flashing the full conversion, so I'm just running CWM Recovery + a Google Edition system image. And I want my updates! hahah.
Anyway I saw BlackJelly posted a lightly modified one, but I was wondering if anyone had done a pure stock one yet.

You might want to add to the OP, IN GIANT RED LETTERS, that this is for theTMO version only, maybe that will keep most "non readers" from flashing this and bricking again..

I don't think so unless you have all the partition images. I would use my zip 1st then flash your rom
Too late. I'm on your rooted kk now. All themed up already I'm gonna go back here in a min
Yeah I forgot your zip has all those in it. My ROMs are all 4.2.2. I used your rooted 4.4 KK just to check out what 4.4 is like. This is my first time on it. Love the fact I can take advantage of "OK Google Everywhere" to just say "OK Google" from any screen no matter where but geez its a battery hog. 35% in 3 hours. I'm used to 35% in 8-9 hours.
So even though freedomflex is only for jellybean cwm will load even though I'm on kk? Just don't want to mess up my phone.

CWM will load one time only!!!! You can reboot to CWM...BUT YOU CAN NOT BOOTBACK INTO KITKAT !!!!!! You have to flash Dfuse's zip to return to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. You cannot return to KitKat from recovery.
Once on 4.2.2 you can update or use recovery to flash stock KitKat or rooted KitKat and return to KITKAT that way but can't go from KitKat to recovery back to KitKat. You will brick and have to figure out that janky a$$ method to return to stock with lg flash tool.

I think so but you have to be bone stock to do it...hence no traces of prior root. Otherwise it fails to update.

I'm bone stock and don't care for root. It took 4-5 hours to download and install the update. I had to clear room first too, before it would actually install.
However, my Active is much zipper than it ever was, and that's including the ****ty 4.4.4 update which brought it to a slow crawl.

[WIP][2016.03.14] Android N Preview - v2.70 [CLOSED]

All code changes needed for N Preview have been rolled into the BETA releases starting v2.71 BETA. This thread is now closed. If a new N Preview release comes out, or N Final is released, this thread may be re-opened. For now, proceed to the BETA thread!
OLD CONTENT
This thread is dedicated to SuperSU on N Preview. With the first few releases I'm not merging it directly with the BETA branch, as there have been some invasive changes under the hood regarding SELinux handling, and there should be a little bit more testing done before going there. Still, I expect this to be done within the next week or two.
I've only had the chance to test on the 5X so far, so there is some risk involved. If you're not comfortable reflashing everything due to bootloops, crashes, etc, wait for others to play the guinea pig.
RC-SuperSU-v2.70-20160314191951.zip
As this hasn't been merged with the BETA branch yet, I'm not updating the main CF-Auto-Root distribution either. But as TWRP isn't working yet on all N Preview devices either, attached are test CFAR versions.
Note that you are also welcome to flash this SuperSU version on pre-N firmwares, and report back if everything still works as expected.
If you have tried other methods of rooting, you need to at least flash back your stock boot.img before flashing SuperSU.
Depending on how much you have played around, reflashing /system may also be a wise move.
If you came from SuperSU v2.69, you need to reflash via TWRP or CFAR. Installing just the APK and updating binaries will not fix all the issues!

N6, RC-SuperSU-v2.69-20160313161431.zip through TWRP 3.0.0.1 seems OK. Testing in progress.
How are ya'll flashing? I can't get any version of TWRP to run on my N9, it just keeps restarting recovery, and I don't know what else I would try.
Can i flash it over phh cause i already root?

This thread is dedicated to SuperSU on N Preview. With the first few releases I'm not merging it directly with the BETA branch, as there have been some invasive changes under the hood regarding SELinux handling, and there should be a little bit more testing done before going there. Still, I expect this to be done within the next week or two.
I've only had the chance to test on the 5X so far, so there is some risk involved. If you're not comfortable reflashing everything due to bootloops, crashes, etc, wait for others to play the guinea pig.
RC-SuperSU-v2.69-20160313161431.zip
As this hasn't been merged with the BETA branch yet, I'm not updating the main CF-Auto-Root distribution either. But as TWRP isn't working yet on all N Preview devices either, attached are test CFAR versions.
Note that you are also welcome to flash this SuperSU version on pre-N firmwares, and report back if everything still works as expected.
If you have tried other methods of rooting, you need to at least flash back your stock boot.img before flashing SuperSU. Depending on how much you have played around, reflashing /system may also be a wise move.

Thank you @Chainfire! Does this root method reside in the System Partition, or is it Systemless. Also, do we need to type in adb commands in TWRP before installing to force Systemless installation?
Thank you again:laugh:
Hey Chainfire!
Just a few question again from one of your supporters
Is it possible to receive OTA's after rooting N with your method? Or is their another way (like for example via your app "Flashfire")?
And can you flash new preview builds over a rooted build?
Thank you in advance

Android N OTA`s - it`s full system images, so it doesn't matter your device rooted or not.

Nexus 6 stuck in 7.0 but getting montly patches

My N6 is still waiting 7.1.1 OTA, surprisingly, security patches come on schedule, but almost three months after release, OTA is not coming. Yes, I know I can sideload it, but one of the reasons I decided not to root it was not losing the ability of OTA updates.... any hint?
Thanks.

You can flash the stock rom and you will receive OTA . Unlocking bootloader dosen't mean root.
You WILL receive OTA updates just do as follows
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash latest fastboot images
3. Lock bootloader - optional.
Make sure you don't keep TWRP recovery. It isn't that good for installing OTA packages via system update.
Please follow the guides if you don't know how to do them. Download the latest one named 7.1.1
Press thanks if i helped

@Pocket_rocket Just a warning though... Unlocking your bootloader will wipe your device.
Use the full OTA image instead. I believe there's no need for an unlocked bootloader then.
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Edit: a word of caution... If you decide to sideload the OTA, it's not a bad idea to keep your bootloader unlocked. If anything goes wrong along the way, you can then fix it.
And about the update issue. Are you on AT&T? They haven't approved 7.1.1 yet...
Edit 2 (I just woke up, gimme a break ): If you use Android Pay or anything else dependent on SafetyNet, you can't keep your bootloader unlocked (without further tinkering) since that triggers SN.

Hi Didgeridoohan, Mine is now NBD92D (AT&T version and update thru OTA) but I don't see any AT&T logo on the back and my city(HK) does not have any AT&T service. Do you have any idea on this(Actually my Nexus 6 is from Australia).
In addition, if I keep sideload the OTA image N6F26U will cause any problem(except the Android Pay)? As you mention that Google does not approve any 7.1.1 AT&T version(Just tried to sideload N6F26U, it said can't install over a newer version).
Thanks so much in advance.

Yes, but I am too lazy to reconfigure my phone after wipe. Tons of apps, accounts, tweaks etc.

No. I'm on Vodafone (Spain) but I purchased this phone right on Amazon, so no pesky carrier should be acting as a man in the middle, I guess...
I mean, the phone runs decently well, but, given the fact that 7.1.1 will be the last update for this model, I want it. I wonder if is just a matter of patience or there is some other issue that is preventing my phone to get the OTA.
Thanks.
I have the same issue, m on NBD92D, which seems to ATT only, but there's no AT&T in India. I tried sideloading N6F26U, but it didn't work. Any idea how I can get 7.1, apart from waiting?
