[Q] S6 WiFi Hotspot with root. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

I read if I root my S6 from AT&T I will not be able to install a custom rom because of the locked bootloader. All I really want it to accomplish is to let me install a wifi hotspot app to let me use it for a portable hotspot. I did this with my S3 and it worked great. Do you think I will be able to make this work by using the S6 root that is out there in the market? Thank you,

What root in what market? Please link so we can weigh in with the right info. To attempt an answer, yes, you should be able to do this with SuperSu installed after you root, but it depends on the app. I would email the dev to see if they have tried their app on a S6. No sense bricking it over that.
Edit: also, are you on an old data plan that doesn't include hotspot? The newer ones include it.

I was looking at the Chainfire one on Youtube. I have an old unlimited data plan and am trying to avoid paying for the hotspot. The Chainfire site said using this on AT&T device might brick the phone, I should probably just wait until someone perfects a root for this device.
The hotspot app I was using on my S3 was Wifi tether router from Google Play store.

As far as I've seen there isn't root for the at&t s6.

PingPong Root (beta6) worked just fine on my SM-G920A (AT&T S6)... I did have to put it in airplane mode before the "Get Root" button actually worked, though. There seems to be something calling home that prevented it otherwise.

[Q] Droid 4 Tether Hack

I wondering if the Tether Hack using the RadioComm will work on the Droid4. I tried it, but could not get the app to detect the phone.
Also I enabled Verizon's Tether, and it seems to be giving me tether at no extra cost, I'm not sure, but the message when I activated it said, as long as you have a data play $29.95 or greater. Other wise you had to upgrade planes. Well I had the unlimited data plane so I continued with the set up, then when to Verizon to check my bill, and I don't see any additional cost as of yet. So I'm curious, is version charging to use Tether ?
Yahya
When I looked into it, the cost was supposed to be $24/mo for tethering. I just rooted mine and installed the Wifi Tether 3.1 beta 11 apk and it works fine so I would not chance attempting to use Verizon's app just because it seems likely that even if you don't get charged right off the bat, they might get wise and decide to charge you in the future.
Foxfi in the market works perfectly on D4. No root required

x3, except I get the Verizon "Tethering or hotspot active" notification. I haven't gotten a warning or paywall screen and my bill hasn't changed so hopefully that isn't cause for concern.

"That behavior it does is normal. The stock app is just a modified version of the aosp built in tethering mechanism. So when AWT sets the prop that tells the system that tethering is on the stock app gets triggered. Even cm7 on thrill does this."
This quote is from tekahuna (a developer of android wifi tether) on gtalk.
I asked him the same question.

Sweet! Thanks for asking him. That's a big relief.
Yeah, the mobile hotspot pops up for everyone (but not always which is odd)... it will not affect your bill because VZW can't say anything if you're not using their app.
The settings that I'm using on 3.1 beta11 are as follows:
Device - Motorola Razr
Setup - Auto
Not using encryption and everything else is however it comes set.
Part of your problem is probably that you're using an older beta. Here's the link for the one I'm using (just add the Http:// because I haven't posted enough to link):
code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta11.apk&can=2&q=
Wifi Tether 3.1 here. First thing installed post-root. Working beautifully.
Using the built in tether with the entitlement_check hack from bionic, working great
so is it free or what
My wife has the Droid 4 and I love the 4g service (up to 20mbps in my area). We use the wifi tether for our xoom. So if we use the vzw stock wifi tether app we will be charged? And if I use a 3rd party app like fox fi for instance it will b free of charge? Or can we edit the radio with Radiocom like the d3? I have my d3 changed over. And would it help if we rooted the d4?

You can say that or you could say they warned me not. The pop up warning said you can not use WiFi tethering unless you have a $29.95 data plan or greater. Well I have that plan for unlimited data. So I thought I was good.what they mean is in conjunction with there will be a $30 teather charge.
I pressed continue thinking I was good because of my data plan.

I've never seen this message, and I just logged into my account and it shows no usage for Connect/Hot Spot. It does show usage for Data, but it doesn't separate tether from phone data usage.
Sweet. The only roadblock to getting this phone was making sure I could tether

Anyone know how to get free tethering?

So I kinda recently got my Note 3, and in the past I have had the s4, running on international rom, which apparently has tethering built in so how can i tether for free on my note 3?
thanks!!
Until we get son roms, I'm not sure unless there is an xposed module to do it

So you are asking how to steal a service you are supposed to pay for through your data plan? As others have said, right now you can't do it. If you are with AT&T, the system and the phone actually check each other to verify your current account and data package allow for tethering and with AT&T only their 5GB plan allows tethering.

Any Ideas On How to Get Tethering Working.?

Just Upgraded to the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910T) from the Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900T), the App I was using was Wifi Tethering Router (Works Flawlessly on the Note 3), I Purchased it for .99 cents when it first came out and Loved it, i recommended it to so many ppl that i lost count, however, I honestly thought it was going to work out the box on my Note 4 after rooting it of Course (Big Up's to Chain Fire for Sure, MUCH RESPECT..!!), but that was;nt the case, does anyone have any Ideas on how we can get this Unlimited, Unrestricted Option Going on our New Device. Any Idea will be Appreciated, Thanks In Advance...

Does Wi-Fi tether router have a USB option? My only form of internet right now is my phone, so with the note 3 I had it hooked up to my PC through USB using whatever Rom had the unlimited tethering hack built in.

I believe there is something in xposed . In wanam under system their is a disable thering provisioning . Not sure if you tried it or not , just a suggestion.
Xtether works for xposed been using my wifi hot spot all day. If that doesn't work for some you may have to apply sqlite3 file just see my post above this will get your tethering working for free

Sure did for me. Did you turn on "hidden" function? And only USB, but it did work. Now I'm on WiFiTether Router (hidden) and it's awesome to be back on wireless.
You must change ipv6 to ipv4. There is a couple threads in general section for exact instructions.

Not yet. I have a pending query still in another thread: I'm on AOCE right now, and that tether patch will not work on anything but AOE2. It isn't clear if I can ODIN the AOE2 ROM over the top of my rooted AOCE (thereby nuking all my everything... ugh*) and then re-root, or if I have to ODIN all the way back to stock and start over (again, ugh*).
*My inertia level is pretty high, exceeded only by the level of activity I put into getting a new device to a solid steady-state and then I leave it alone for a Long Long Time(tm). Case in point: my S3 running rooted 4.1.2 died 2 nights ago, or I'd still be using that (laugh if you want, but it was super stable)... I was really only a week or so away from either pulling the trigger on a G920i unlocked/int'l version or going w/ the AT&T one and rooting it. Once folks confirmed PingPong Root worked, the decision was made easier, and then my phone dying on its own clinched it.
Worst-case, I guess I can schedule some offline time to go all the way back, but I really really really really don't want to. My phone generates employment/income, so when its offline, I'm losing money....

WIll carrier undetected, hotspot tethering be possible?

I have a rooted Note 4 on Verizons Grandfathered Unlimited Data plans and I use hotspot tethering every day.
Is it safe to say that this will not be possible on the Note 8?
THank you for any input.
If you root you can remove tethering flags, alternatively most roms have them removed. Don't know about the options without root, maybe someone else will chime in on those.
If you search the s8+ threads there have been posts about Hotspot without root being successful...I'm going to try the same methods when I get my black unlocked note 8 for sprint...if I find the threads later, I'll update this with the link.

I'm rooted and got tethering to work, but did you ever find an alternative to be able to tether without rooting? This 80% battery issue kind of gets me. I don't mind being stock for now if I could find a tethering method that works. FoxFi is a no go. I haven't tried flashing unlocked firmware. I'm a little afraid to. I heard the coverage might not be as good. Any thoughts?

Not STEALING bandwidth...just sharing what we are already paying for with our laptops...
fine, as long as you are only "sharing" the amount of gigs that you actually pay for..if thats the case, then why is this thread titled "carrier undetected"? If you aren't stealing or violating TOS, then why does it have to be "carrier undetected"?
