S6 Edge and Android Auto - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Just a quick heads up, the latest Google Play Services has fixed the issue of the GS6 Edge appearing in motion when trying to attach to an Android Auto enabled head unit. I personally have the Pioneer avh-4100 and was disappointed at the initial "reports" that it would take a Pioneer/Samsung update to get the S6/Edge working properly. I really didn't want to go back to my Note 4 until an update was pushed out.

What is your version of play services? and have you tested it on the 4100 to verify correct operation now?

Android Auto stopped working

I have been using android auto for the past 3-4 weeks flawlessly. However in the last day when I plug my phone in I now get the red page stating this device cannot work with android auto on the phone. I have tried everything from reinstalling the android auto app/clearing cache/data and the same for google play services to factory resetting the phone. Has anyone else encountered this? does anyone have any ideas?
Phone: Nexus 6, stock, never rooted, never unlocked
Headunit: Pioneer AVIC8100NEX
Edit: I've been messing around with this, I am starting to suspect the 7.3.29 update to google play services is the culprit. downgrading to 7.0.99 seems to make it work up until the google play service updates itself automatically. I've tried connecting the phone in airplane mode to prevent this but android auto doesn't launch at all when the phone is in airplane mode.
Send a bug report.

Better send a bug report to Google and the Android Auto support team. After I took that update I had some problems with other devices, not sure where but there is a list of devices and applications that have switches to allow/not allow them and all of them were switched to off. Had to turn many of them back on for me to get any information from them. Don't know about the AA application. I have not used it much because there is no Pandora Radio support yet and I have not had to go on any long trips so all I've needed was the voice navigation from Google maps on my phone. Hoping Pandora gets added soon, then it will be all I ever use.

7.3.29 is installed on my Nexus6, with the same HU, and I have no problems. Have you updated the avic8100NEX's firmware to 1.0.3?
Yea, I updated to 1.03 the first day I got it installed. There seems to be some people with a similar issue, and others dont experience it at all.
I started a post over at androidcentral http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...y-states-device-cannot-work-android-auto.html
Two others chimed in with the same problem. Started about the same time google play servivce update rolled out. But if that is the problem then I am at a loss why only a few of us are having this problem.
Yeah, I think the update caused issues on some devices. I tested with 6 different phones the other day. HTC One M8 w/ CM12 seems OK, as does MotoG stock or CM12, and I think GS2 w/ 5.1 ROM. GS3 was among the problem devices.
I see a permissions problem in the logcat; Google's own Android Auto app can't get the permissions it needs.
I'm not positive this is all directly related though.
What build of Android?

You nailed the nail on the head...
I think I've figured it out. It definitely is the google play services update 7.3.29 on a N6 running Android 5.0.1. I can out my SIM and block google play through my home firewalls then downgrade to 7.0.99 and it works flawlessly. I then manually updated to Android 5.1.0 with google play services 7.3.29 and it also works flawlessly. So my recommendation is to manually apply the 5.1 update. I just tried to go back to 5.0.1 and once 7.3.29 services come down it no longer works. And went back to 5.1 and it works again. Definitely an issue with 5.0.1 and google play services 7.3.29 combination.
All of this testing was done with factory images, the only non factory application installed was android auto. all partitions on the device were formatted prior to applying system images.

This also worked for me. I was so confused as to why my Nexus 6 all of a sudden didn't work with Android Auto... I was running 5.0.1 with the updated Google Play Services 7.3.29 (auto updated). Switched to a ROM with 5.1 and it works again. Thanks!

2016 Silverado - No Android Auto

Hi all.
I just leased a 2016 Silverado and was a little bummed to find out that Android Auto doesn't work out of the box, and my dealership seems to not know what the heck I'm talking about.
For anyone that has Android Auto working in the 2016 Silverado, can you post your Chevrolet MyLink version number (can be obtained from settings in the dash)
Just wanna verify if my version should have it or not.
My phone (Nexus 5x) goes into Charging mode from every USB port (not sure if all ports should work with auto or not, but I tried all three).
I have the projection icon in my dashboard, which is mentioned on the Chevy Android Auto press release (http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us...ws/us/en/2016/mar/0301-chevrolet-android.html), but it's also used for Apple Car play or whatever.
I know this article mentions needing an update but I literally leased it this Monday (3/14) and assumed they would update the dashboard before giving it to me, note that the press release was sent out on 3/1.
Anyway, if someone can provide that info to let me know if I'm going to be disappointed by taking it in for a dashboard update, that'd be appreciated.
Thanks.

I recently did the update on another Chevrolet vehicle and had to go through the trouble of explaning what android auto is in the process as well.
Try asking them to look up #16-NA-042. That is the service bulletin number that they have the access to.
So for anyone else in my boat, I did indeed need an update. Android auto is pretty awesome so far. Google music and maps on the dash is super fun
I just did the update on my 16 chevy Malibu with mylink
How long did it take for the update? The letter I got said 30 minutes, but I just made an appointment, and they said it takes 2 hours...
1hr
I had the update done last week and it does not work on my s6 edge. I have been rummaging through forums because I thought it was my phone at first. I have tried eberything. My phone is up to date with marshmallow and everything but still have not found a answer to why it will not connect. I too have a 2016 Silverado. So at this point I think that the dealer botched the update. Like Stipo stated above if anyone with an updated working AA mylink could post the version number so I can check to see if they did indeed screw up update I would greatly appreciate it!
So it took me a while to get it to work on my Tahoe... There were two things I changed, so if you haven't tried these, try them:
1. If "fast charge" is enabled in the battery settings, you will need to pull down the notification shade and switch to a data and charge mode from charge only. (this is S7 specific, but a similar step should be required on all MM phones.)
2. I tried several cables before I had a stable connection that didn't immediately disconnect. I actually bought a new Anker cable.
Also, make sure you have it paired over Bluetooth. Mine does not connect until the Bluetooth connection is complete.
Where do I find the mylink version number? I'll look later today and report back later...
Settings---->Software Information---> Software number should be shown. Thanks for your help
Software: 84089010
Gracenote: 23199236
Map: 23346621
Thanks for checking for me. Anyone else that has had the update please share so we can compare depending on model. My software number is different from yours (23415883) but my grace note is the same (what ever that means). I own a 2016 silverado...idk of software numbers differ between models. I called chevy yesterday and sounds like the dealer screwed up the update blahhh going again next week. Fingers crossed.
Android auto communication error 7
I got my 2016 silverado updated. (Took the dealer two times to get it right) so now in settings right below apple play I see android auto. But when I connect my galaxy note 4 I get a communication error 7 that says my cars software did not pass android autos security settings check list. Has anyone else seen this?

There seem to be a lot of problems with Samsung Marshmallow Devices lately. If you check the Androidcentral forum's you'll see Samsung seriously ****ed things up with their marshmallow update. I guess you'll have to wait until they fix it or use a custom rom.
I have a 2016 Silverado 3500HD and does not have the Icon. I was told that a certain quantity of 2016MY Silverado 1500/2500/3500 and Sierra 1500/2500/3500 trucks were
built without Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility. I also was told at this point there is no plans for an upgrade but that doesn't mean there won't be. I was told also it is on the window sticker that it didn't have it and there was a $200 credit given because of it on the sticker price. So if you are one with no Icon then you just have to put up with the frustration of not having it like me.
its 2019 and yes i have something to say about this
just bought a CPO 2016 silverado LTZ.. everything you're describing im having trouble with also. i cant find anyone or any thread to help me. i even took it to the service station today since i bought it Saturday. they cant help me with the issue. blame it on my phone. i can get my phone to pair with the truck and make calls and play pandora. but when it comes to using android auto. its like my phone doesnt exist. im using the factory USB cord. i tired both of my phones my S6 and my S9 still nothing. theres no icon for android but there is for apple carplay. the tech at chevy was able to use his apple phone but that doesnt help me. if you have an answer to this PLEASE PLEASE let me know. thank you. btw its running the latest update

my my maps, software and the other is different from yours. idk what to do. chevy said everything is up to date. when its clearly not. my numbers are way under everyone elses. including the update
If AA is not shown in the mylink settings then it needs updated to have AA. My 16 Camaro was without and I was able to get the dealership to update it.
Not sure how the Silverados are treated but with the Camaros they offered the upgrade free for a limited time then after that time started charging for the upgrade. Think gm included a charge code for the labor then stopped giving the dealerships the codes so the labor cost was on the dealership. I was able to find a dealership that did it free of charge. Hope this helps anyone.

When I brought mine in for the update, I got in the truck to test it and it didn't work. The software update had to be done again. It takes 45 minutes to upload into the truck. Make sure you are using a phone manufacturer cable. I used on of my "good" charging cables and it does not work, I have an LG thinQ8. it only works with my LG cable. the update can fail, don't let the dealer tell you otherwise.

Maps won't open in Android auto?

I have a my2016 volkswagen Golf, and a nexus 6 running build npd56n (Android N Beta).
Android auto connects fine in my car, but if I try to open navigation in Android auto, screen goes black for a second, then it pops back to the home screen.
If I put in destination on phone and then plug in, same result
Tried u installing and reinstalling Android auto, no luck. Worked fine until Tuesday. Not sure what's up.
The newest build, preview 4, broke Google maps in Android Auto. It was just annouced yesterday by Android Central. Luckily I have not been playing around with the preview. Otherwise I would beflashing back to 6.0.1 if I was. I use maps in my new GTI too much, so thats a deal breaker bug for me.
The newest version of maps fixed it for me. Downloaded it from APKmirror.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
Is AA reading SMS and Hangouts messages for you with NPD56N? I'm trying to determine if something else is broken with AA in N Beta, or if my setup has a problem.

Recent GPS problems

I had posted this over on the Note 8 Verizon board but dont think it is really a Verizon problem but more of a Note 8 problem and might get a better response here.
Just recently over the last couple months, I have been having a problem with getting a good gps signal in programs such as Waze and Google maps. I have done all kinds of searches and many mention to go into settings and in location settings, turn on High Accuracy. That option is bo longer available and not sure if it was eliminated in Pie. I have been doing all the latest updates and believe I am current. The only thing I have been able to find is to go into settings, then Google, and then Account Services and there I found location. The only choices under Improve Accuracy is to turn on Wifi scanning and Bluetooth scanning which I have done. There no longer is a choice of High Accuracy and the ability to turn GPS on or off like I had in previous phones and previous versions of Android. I have even tried turning on High Performance under Battery Power settings and turned off any choices to optimize battery or disable apps. I ended up downloading 2 different GPS apps from Store, GPS Status and GPS Fix/Optimizer. I will normally use Waze or Google maps through Android Auto. I can tell when there is a problem when the position indicator keeps bouncing all over the place in Waze and cant find exactly where I am. When that happens, I will check on GPS Status and it always shows that it is having a problem acquiring the satellite signals. I will then open up GPS Fix/Optimizer and on the home screen, there is a button that will say Service Off. I press it and it will then read Service On. Switching back to GPS Status will now show that it is starting to acquire multiple satellite signals. When I switch back to Waze, now it is able to show my exact location and begins to work properly.
This is driving me nuts. I never had this problem on any other of multiple different phones or Android versions. I can get GPS working but have to jump through all these hoops each time and it sucks. So what other steps can I do to be able to fire up Waze and have it find me right away?
I've had this problem for YEARS on all my Samsung devices running the latest firmware updates and unrooted while connected to a LTE data plan. The issue doesn't affect my other (new) Samsung A30 however. I've always had the latest note series since the Note2, 3, 4, 5, 8.
If I have my Samsung A30 and Note 8 with Google Maps giving me turn by turn directions, my Note 8 (as with my current phones) will stop reporting my location from the very begining of the trip while my Samsung A30 is giving the correct updates. All phones are connected to the same carrier, and same GPS / App settings.
---------- Post added at 08:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 AM ----------
What is consistent about all my Notes is that I've been using Samsung Smart Switch to transfer over the data from the previous Note to the next. I wonder if I transferred over some corrupt settings somewhere. No GPS app works as it should for me unless I'm connected to WiFi, or restart my device, then it works for a few minutes, then gets "lost" again.

The more I've looked into it, it seems to have occurred following the early Feb update. It also seems to have affected S9 phones and Note 9 and 10 and possibly others after they got the Android 10 update. But it seems to be only a Samsung problem. Samsung, Google, and Verizon are all blaming each other instead of trying to figure out a fix. The biggest issue I see is the lack of control of being able to change the GPS from off to on. Without being able to control the GPS, we are at the mercy of the software to do that and it is obviously failing. The only workaround I have found was what I posted above and utilizing GPS Fix/Optimizer and GPS Status apps, I can get both Waze and Google Maps to work properly. It just bugs me that I have to go through several steps to do this instead of just firing up my navigation app and taking off...
And just to add, I too have used Smart Switch many times before and never had problem. It only started recently. As far as the control for GPS, I'm not sure when that setting was removed. I never paid much attention before because it wasnt necessary. But what I did find curious was that Location setting was buried instead of it being one of the main settings. You really have to dig to find it now...

I have noticed that certain apps like GPS apps require that you reinstall them onto your new device from scratch. As SmartSwitch doesn't seem to transfer the data files corrected to other Samsung devices.

I agree with that but this is not a new device nor have I done any kind of restore or transfer from an old phone in quite a while. All my apps have been fine for over a year now on this Note 8. This only started after the first February "Security" update.

Im pretty sure that's not the case. My Note is still on Android 9 (Pie) which it has been for almost a year now. It has only gotten security and various minor updates but not any kind of OS update. Note 8 will not be getting Android 10, only security updates. I always update Waze and Google maps anytime an update comes out. I usually update all the other apps at least once a week. The GPS apps that I recently downloaded are the only reason that I am able to access and use my GPS through Waze and Google maps.

Download the 2 apps I mentioned and run them. You may have to do that every time before using Google Maps but it should get you working. It's just aggravating to have to go through several steps when I should be able to open the main app I want and have it work.
Something weird just happened. I know that a couple days ago to find the location setting, I had to go to settings, Google, Account Services, and I found location there. Tonight just messing around, I noticed that it is no longer there. Instead, it is now found under settings, and then Biometrics and Security. It is down towards the bottom. Not sure how this happened as I have not received any kind of system updates. Also GPS Status app seems to just run in the background. When I open up Waze, it seems to find my location right away. I will have to keep monitoring this and see if the problem has actually been worked out.

I've already done this from even before this thread was created, but as you said, it is frustrating for me to have to do this every 10 or so minutes, as GPS stops working quite frequently on my Note 8. GPS was fine with the bone-stock firmware out of the box.

Yes, and yes. 10 minutes later, GPS stops working. It works great if I'm driving past WiFi, however.
I can stream YouTube continuously, so I know my LTE connection is active.

Hey Mikey,
I've noticed that it has improved, but definitely not resolved.
I'm wondering if a factory reset will revert all software updates? I have an appointment tomorrow at the samsung store, and they are going to factory reset and install the most recent software update via their system rather than an OTA which builds upon other updates. I'm backing up my phone now... which in itself is a pain. If not, I did try the GPS fix and the other GPS software, but I did not try them concurrently together, as I found GPS fix to work better. Ultimately though, I didn't think it helped by itself.

No.
I'm bumping this back up to the top. One thing I have noticed is that if I haven't used any location type apps such as google maps or Waze in a while and then open up Android Auto in my Chevy, I have a 50/50 shot of the gps actually working. Actually probably less although occasionally it will work right away. When it doesnt, I have to pull the cord out of the phone disconnecting the Chevy from My Note 8 and even if I only open up Waze or google maps after that, it will still not be able to locate my exact position. When this happens, I have opened up GPS status app and the phone gps is definitely not working. I will then open up GPS fix/optimizer and in the bottom left of the home screen, I will toggle the Service Off to Service On. Checking back with GPS Status, within a couple seconds, it shows that the GPS is now working. I can then plug my phone back into my Chevy and Android Auto with either Waze or Google Maps will be working fine for as long as I'm using it.
I originally thought it was a Samsung software issue. Now I'm starting to wonder. If I use Waze or Google Maps as standalone, they seem to work most of the time. It seems to happen mostly using Android Auto first which then opens the navigation software and if I haven't used any apps that call for location recently. I'm stumped...
Looks like I may be on the right track and Android Auto could be the cause of my issues: https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/17860576
I also found some other info that Adaptive Battery and battery optimization might also have something to do with it. I turned off adaptive battery by going into settings, then device care, then clicked on the battery icon. There are 3 dots in upper right which let you into battery settings. You can turn off adaptive battery there. Next, I went into settings, then apps, and first selected Android Auto. I clicked on the battery choice and then optimize battery usage. There in the top left, I switched from apps not optimized to all. From there I then found Android Auto and turned it off. I then while ein same screen turned off optimization for Maps and Waze. Unfortunately I dont drive that often and now with the VID, I am driving even less so it may be a while before I can verify that this worked.
An update to this. I reached out to the sub forum for Android Auto over on Google Support and got semi confirmation that the problem could actually be coming from Android Auto. One of the explanations given had something to do with Android Auto trying to get info from the vehicles gps device to make it more accurate but it may have problems communicating with the vehicle gps system. I do not have a dedicated navigation in my vehicle so not sure what it is trying to actually connect to so this could partially explain the problem. Why Android Auto would need to connect to any gps device in vehicle is beyond me because for years, my phones have always relied on the in phone GPS and have worked just fine. Here is that thread:

So I'm having the same issue on an unbranded note 8. But I'm not using android auto. I can use gps tools and it holds a lock fine. But if additional programs are launched, waze, maps, jbv1 I lose lock.

Accessories Galaxy Watch 5 - Good news, Bad news

Just got my new Galaxy Watch 5. It looks great, very smooth appearance
Installed it in the usual way after removing all the old apps and starting from scratch including Watch 5 patch.
Good news - Galaxy Wear found the watch straight away and did the bluetooth pairing.
Bad news - Galaxy Wear immediately said "This watch is not supported on this phone."
I'll be having an other go later on, but it's looking like the watch will be going back.
If you have an older copy of Wearables try that after uninstalling the new version. Make sure you get all the apps for the watch.
Firewall block the old version's updates though before opening it... or it will update.
Conversely try updating everything including the watch firmware. Sequence* of your actions here can effect the outcome. Wearables can be quit the terror but I've always gotten my Buds+ to work right, one way or another
Samsung tech may be useful as may Samsung forums. It sucks but so does a lot of things; bennies for success, nothing for failure.
*trial and error, and yes it can take multiple attempts. DO NOT factory reset!
Clearing the system cache and especially a network reset may help. Make sure Wearables has all its permissions, CHECK!!! It will puke on you if it doesn't! No warnings why either
I've been back again, tried everything I learned in getting the Watch 3 to work. But this one is different, it's not like the failures before when something just doesn't work or goes into a loop. This is the first time Galaxy Wear has connected to the Watch and then said definitely that it is not comparible with the phone. I'm having bad feelings about it.
The other thing I would say though is, are Samsung going to sell the Watch 5 into China? If so it should work with Chinese phones - unless it has different firmware.
Watch 5 returned. Waiting for Pixel Watch.

Another horrible news about Vivo Security and policies.
Anyone had the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 to work with the Wear OS version from Vivo app store?
yes i have the watch 5 pro working i have had vio x fold, vivo x fold plus and now vivo x fold 2 and it worked on all
what you have to do is uninstall all the versions you have of samsung wearables and plugins then go to this link and install this version of wearables http://samsung-gear.apk.watch/2.2.41.21071361/for/huawei-honor-8
once that is installed open up the settings of ur phone go to bluetooth and connect to your watch then open up the wearables app and it will download an update follow it through and it will work perfect for you
just remember to set the wearable and watch os apps to be locked in the task killer screen and set the battery management to high power for the wearable and watch os apps to make sure you get all your notifications and for it to stay connected

I have both watch 4 and watch 5 connecting to vivo without any issues. Do not use the Samsung wearable app from the play store but use the above apk. Once the phone is synced, all the Samsung plugins gets updated to the latest version.
