Unknown IMEI and locked network after trying to recover - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi everyone,
Hope you can help me solve this, cuz I'm way out of my knowledge..
My phone broke the lcd and was out of action for a few months.. After I finally got a replacement screen, the phone wasn't working and said IMEI unknown, I've tried to flash a few roms via recovery but nothing. So I just went crazy and flashed it via kies. It worked, the imei appeared but the phone was locked again..
Back to the shelf a few weeks until I could afford to pay for unlock.. When I picked it up, it was unknown IMEI again and the guy at the shop basically told me he couldn't help.
Was he right? I refuse to believe I can't recover the phone.. Can you please help?
Thanks!

Anyone?

Are you sure is that phone imei is not blocked, because provider may block if it is stolen reported.
I had the same problem after changing display IMEI unknown
But somehow it was saved from 'unknown IMEI' I don't know how.
restored efs from previous backup (twrp & philz recovery)
- no imei
I flashed stock
- no IMEI
asop
- no imei
tried different modems
again stock
- suddenly its worked
(some users reported flashing different modems worked for them)

Yes I'm sure imei is not blocked by network. Have a friend that bought a phone which he discovered the hard way it was stolen, anyway, blocked imei by network behavior is completely different.
This is what happened to me first time only valid imei after kies rom update.

If you see imei again, Make a backup using pc, there is a guide in development section. So, you can easily restore again.

Phone lost network

Hi all,
Today I find out that my phone is not connected to Rogers network. I have US phone unlocked and unbranded. I had for 4 months now and never had this problem. Right now, when I go to Wireless setting and try to find operator it keeps looping to find one, any help appreciated.
I had to RMA my phone when this happened
I'm sorry to hear that you lost signal to Rogers. My Captivate had the same problem over the weekend (not connecting to AT&T).
My local AT&T store couldn't find anything wrong with it but recommended it was a hardware problem and can be exchanged for a working phone. Even trying a new SIM card didn't help. Luckily I had flashed to stock and had complete Titanium Backups of my apps & data.
Typing *#06# in the phone dialer brought up my IMEI number. The IMEI displayed should have been the same as what is shown underneath the phone's battery but it was not. It started with 004 instead of 351.
At this point I'm not sure the malfunction had to do with a hardware issue or my ROM flashing hobby. All I know for sure is that I made sure to backup my EFS folder before flashing another ROM.
Generic IMEI number starts with 004
It's hard to stop a TRANE but harder to BRICK your GalaxyS. It's not a hardware problem U have software is your problem and it's easy 2 fix. Just flash back to stock JH7, after that do an ODIN3 Master-Clear. When ur done all will be GOOD ur IMEI will b correct, network will be back

Please help me Restoring IMEI

Hey guys,
I installed S3-Evolution-Beta-3.1 in my SGA a week before and just 2 days back, I found the strange problem that even if my phone had a SIM card in it, My phone was saying "No Network". First I thought, I was in the No Reception area, and ignored it. I restarted my phone, did the couple of tricks of restoring the Nandroid Back up etc. ***Nothing Worked*** to resolve the "No Service" problem.
I just flashed the DDKQ8 firmware through Odin, and the problem still continues.
Just a couple of hours back I observed that there is NO IMEI number in the settings. I tried going into the service mode and tried turn off the FTM and choose proper network bands. But nothing worked.
Now I am getting worried, Please help me out.
PS: I knew this kind of problem, and have the original IMEI number with me.
Please help!
So there isn't any possible solution?
Dial *#06#

[Q] My IMEI was deleted. Factory data reset doesn't help.

Hi All,
Something really strange just happen with my GT-I9295.
So I got the 4.2.2 version from the box. I recived an automatic upgrade which I have accepted and installed. But strangly after installation the version still 4.2.2. One week later the IMEI number just disapeard durring the night and cannot recover it anymore.
Network
Unknown
IMEI
Unknown
I didn't installed any custom ROMs, nothing.
I found that the IMEI number should be in EFS folder after factory data reset, but this file is missing there.
I have my IMEI under the back-cover, but how I can re-enter it in my phone ?
I heard the param.bin for gti9295 could help ? Could somone drop it here ?
I bought the phone 2 weeks ago
When I tried to repair it I have root it. How I can check my KNOX counter to see if I can send it back to Samsung ?
Thanks in advance and sorry for my english!

URGENT: Re-installed Stock Firmware (update-6.0.1) - NO NETWORK ACCESS

Hey, everyone, I need some help:
On my SM-920G, I re-installed stock 6.0.1 (last official update before 7.0) and, now, I don't have access to the network (says emergency calls only). IMEI and serial number are both intact. What can I do to regain access to my network? I know it's not a motherboard problem because it happened after flashing stock software. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.
Thank you,
VinceLupe

I would remove and reinstall your SIM card and check your APN settings.

Did you install the right firmware for your region? You should check that or flash right modem file. If all else fails use kies to restore phone to factory or flash a custom rom and check if everything works.

So, I actually had to have an IMEI change... Long story - but, my question now is: is it possible to return to stock (completely stock) and NOT lose my IMEI number? I've heard some people say, "yes," and O be heard some people say, "no." Is it possible?

I don't think there is any risk of losing IMEI if you flash stock with odin, but if you have root then firstly take an efs backup, just in case, efs is where your IMEI is stored.

If you have root then in the root folder you will find a folder called efs. Just copy it and save it to your SD card or your computer. If you have custom recovery then you can save it from the backup option but I guess that won't help much if you flash stock with odin then it will remove your custom recovery. There are also some apps on the play store but I never used them, I use the first method.

Yeah, I'm just on stock, so that won't work - but, now I have another issue:
So, here's what happened... I got my IMEI changed, and all was good. But, then I realized that my phone was rooted. I tried to flash magisk to have magisk installed, and then my phone wouldn't boot up. Afterwards, I flashed stock to restore official device status, but when I did so, I realized that my network wasn't working. My IMEI (clean IMEI) is still showing, but I DO NOT have any access to my network and can't search the web or anything. What could be the issue, and what is the easiest way to fix it?

Did you flash the correct firmware? The same region as it was when it was working? Flashing a stock rom from a different region sometimes causes this and you need to flash the right one or at least the 'modem' file of the right one to get it working. Or you could use Samsung Kies software to completely recover your phone to its original state when it was bought. Also, What do you mean by saying changed IMEI? Did it not show it correctly or got corrupted and you fixed it? or you changed it completely to a different one from the original?
If you have a good IMEI just call your provider and give them your IMEI and your sim card numbers.

CodeNameRedNeck,
So, I have a good IMEI number, but I cannot register the network service. It tells me "Emergency Calls Only" even though it shows a signal in the top right hand corner. Are you saying that I just need to call TIGO (I am in Bolivia) and register my IMEI number as well the SIM card numbers - or, could it be that there is an even deeper issue? Also, which SIM card numbers are you talking about? Thank you, my friend.

Mufrad,
I completely changed the IMEI to a clean one because, apparently, when I traded for the Note 5 (I am in Bolivia, and that's what people do here), the original IMEI was put on the blacklist. So, now I have a completely different IMEI that is clean (unreported), but I do not have any network access at all - furthermore, when I access the menu using *#0011#, it says "IMEI Status: NG" under IMEI Status. I'm not sure if it's a software problem? I have a friend looking at the phone, but I do not have any idea how it's going because he still hasn't been able to fix it.

When my son switched from an iphone to Android we had to call AT&T and give them those numbers before it worked. I had an Xperia phone that I had to do the same with. There are apps that can read your sim card number. It should also be printed on your sim card.

Baseband + IMEI Unknown

Hello
I recently lost my s10 and now got my hands on a new one (exact same model)
I thought i was smart and restored a TWRP backup from the lost phone on the new one
I guess the mistake was that there was also the efs partition included in the backup
The rom (newest beyond) works without problems but the sim card is not recognized and baseband and IMEI both show unknown
so i flashed the original samsung firmware with odin but even then i have baseband and IMEI unknown
Did i just screw my new s10 or does anyone have an idea?
any help much appreciated
Anyone has an idea what I could try?
Or did I really kill my phone for good
My guess is that you may have wiped out the new phone specifics, such as IMEI and other things. I'm not sure if you can recover that in some way, or if you need to just find a way to get your old IMEI back. I would probably try to restore my old IMEI if I can (see if you can identify the old one from your carrier's website or something, for example).

I know the original imei, it's printed on the phone but how could i flash that to my phone? Seems to be impossible
There are ways, but they are not allowed to be discussed here on XDA. I've seen Youtube videos that cover it as well.
