Android 4.4.1 being tested by Google

Can't post links due to low number of posts - but 9to5google dot com has a post on this.
tldr; Web analytics showing a number of Android 4.4.1 devices checking in from Santa Clara, California (Google's home turf) in the last week.

[Q] Hidden updates?

Got update KXB21.85-23 (21.11.23.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.end.03 reteu) yesterday.
I noticed when I go into Google Play Store > My apps and I slide to the "all" panel, there are 4 apps labeled "update" near the very bottom of the list:
Motorola Boot Services
Google Keyboard
Google Korean Input
Google Hindi Input
However I never get prompted to update them and they don't appear in the "installed" panel in Google Play Store > My apps like normal apps do when an update is available.
What's the deal here?
UPDATE: Both Hindi and Korean Google Input prompted for update via notification and now appear in "installed" under "updates".
Motorola Boot Service and Google Keyboard still only updatable through "all" and scrolling all the way down through hundreds of apps. Weird.
PS: I have the dual-sim model, if that makes any difference.

I have exactly the same version. Have these strange 'apps' too. why? I don't use Google Keyboard (i use Swiftkey). Nor do i speak Hindi or Korean (and I don't have any intention of writing in these languages.
In Swiftkey I can just download the languages I need (English and Dutch) within the app.
In my opinion these updates are just "contamination" of the OS.

Welcome!
I need this firmware. There is a download link? It's important.
Thank you!

Exactly, in my opinion, the moto g rom isn't pure android, it has a LOT of software that i don't need or want, i can't wait for a lollipop custom rom.

I sometimes check the "all" list as I noticed some geo-restricted apps (that still work as intended after finding and installing the apk from a different source other than Google) would "fail" to show up in available updates or prompt for updates. If/when there's a more recent version, I usually can update it through the Play Store but I have to manually look for the app in the "all" list.

Google Play Services for Lollipop

Hi all,
Yesterday I updated my phone to the latest Lollipop available. I realized that Google Play Services was eating my battery., so I did some research and some people had the same issue because they had the Google Play Services app outdated. So...I checked mine and I had the version 6.5.87 (1599771-438). I went to the www.apkmirror.com webpage and I saw that there were a new version there available, the Google Play services 6.5.87 (1599771-446), so I downloaded and intalled it.
It seems better than the 438 but it seems the one I should have is the 438, not the 446 (the reason...I don't know...one person here in XDA told me so hehehe).
Anyways...my question is: is ok to have the 446? In case is not....now it doesnt allow me to install the 438 again for some reason...
I would appreciate your help! Thanks!
I updated Google Play Services and used the -446 version as well. Then I read the note about it:
"Uploader's notes: To figure out the right version of Google Play Services for your Android device, go to Settings -> Apps -> Google Play services, and look at the last 3 numbers in the parentheses. You'll see something like -XYY where X is 0 for pre-Lollipop and both 4 and 7 for Lollipop+, and YY is a specific variant id. -738 means you need the APK that has -738, etc.
Note: It seems that -7xx builds became -4xx with Google Play Services 6.5. If you were on -7xx before, you should now install -4xx.
The types are:
Version number has -X10 - universal armeabi CPU
Version number has -X12 - 160 DPI & armeabi CPU
Version number has -X14 - 240 DPI & armeabi CPU
Version number has -X30 - universal armeabi-v7a CPU
Version number has -X32 - 160 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
Version number has -X34 - 240 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
Version number has -X36 - 320 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
Version number has -X38 - 480 DPI & armeabi-v7a CPU
Version number has -X46 - 320 DPI & arm64-v8a CPU
Version number has -X70 - x86 CPU"
Basically, -446 isn't actually an update over -438; it's more or less an ID number for your phone. Also, not installing the right Google Play services APK causes problems. For instance, I couldn't use Google Now to search within apps. I had to go to Settings -> Apps -> Google Play services and Disable it, which then allowed me to Uninstall Updates (when you do this, you'll have to disable Android Device Manager as a Device Administrator), then I was able to install the -438 version. Also, when you reinstall Google Play services, you'll probably have to set up some Smart Lock features if you had them set up before (I had to set up Trusted Places and Trusted Face again).
Try that and you should be good to go. I have the -438 variant of 6.5.87 running now and it seems to be behaving normally.

Is anyone using Android Auto in countries where AA isn't available?

Title says it all.
This is the country list: https://partnermarketinghub.withgoogle.com/brands/android-auto/overview/country-availability/
I think the situation was different a few years back with older versions of AA, where it was relatively easy to circumvent the restrictions and still use AA anyway on a car's head unit. But with current A12 / A13 OS plus the current versions of AA, do people still have success using AA on their head unit in countries where AA isn't officially available?
Found a solution after search through local discussion forums.
The problem actually lies with "Google Play Services" which is the one responsible for detecting where your location is, not "Android Auto". The key to working around this issue of using Android Auto in an unapproved country is to download the Google Play Services with a particular build variant. If you retrieve the version number of the currently installed Google Play Services on your phone, you will see something like "Version: xx.xx.xx (190400-xxxxxxxxx)" where the number in brackets is the "build variant". For A12, you will probably have 190400-xxxxxxxxx as your build variant, and A11 will likely have 150400-xxxxxxxxx.
The only build variants known so far that bypass country checks are 200400 for A12, and 170400 for A11. APKMirror has these build variants that you can download. Once you have replaced "google play services" with the one you have downloaded from APKMirror, you are good to go. The only question left now is - how do you prevent Google Play from auto-updating Google Play Services back to the newest and problematic version?
You can uncheck auto updates of the play store and just regularely update through 3rd party versions.
Thanks for posting!
You must be a naive to believe this, anything is available in any country.
AA isn't available in my country, but it works on my older cars.
On my new car BMW iX 2022, it doesn't work and I get an error showing "connection failed"
I posted about it here with more details:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/android-auto-connection-failed.4493825/
I'm going to try and find one of those google play services builds and try and hope to get it working.
Update:
Unfortunately, I couldn't get an apk to install successfully.
I tried many APKs from apkmirror that show build variant 200400, but they all give me an error "App not installed as package appears to be invalid"
