Finger print Sensor issues - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6

I just recently bought an At&t S6 outright at best buy and immediately went to a small store that fixes phones to get it unlocked. At first i did not know that At&t would unlock it for me for free, as the manager of the best buy sent me directly to this small store. It took them three days but they finally sent me the code and everything eventually settled in and was working perfectly on my t mobile sim card.
But just recently, not even a day after having it officially unlocked my fingerprint sensor began to act up. i would get errors when trying to unlock my phone. First two or three scans, the screen would just dim down to black. Then on around the third time i scanned it i would get a white pop up window with an error.
The message is "An error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor. if this message appears repeatedly, restart your device."
I don't know if this is a common issue on samsungs or if i just got a faulty phone or the unlock code was not legit.

A sim unlock and the fingerprint scanner have nothing to do with each other. I do suggest that you do a full reset. It helped mine.

is it possible that it could be a recurring thing? Should i exchange the phone for a brand new one?

+1 on this idea. Helped mine, too.

Touchscreen Dead!

So the touchscreen on my Tilt randomly died yesterday evening. No response from any on screen commands, though it still goes from dim to bright when touched.
Anyone else have any issues with this? I guess I'll have to bring my phone to AT&T today...hopefully I'll be able to get a replacement..
Try a hard reset first (but sync your data with your pc before you do)
I had the same problem - a hard reset sorted it.
Just tried this, it boots to the "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile based device" message that doesn't respond to tapping!
Great, now I have a brick.
Do you have a screen protector installed? I had a similar issue and when I replaced my screen protector with a new one, all was well again.

None as of now. Worst part is, I'm pretty much stuck. No phone service, no Tilts in stock to swap out, and AT&T doesn't give out loaners anymore..
Guess I'm calling customer service...

If you get your phone less than 30 days, call AT&T customer service asking for a replacement, or ask for a discount compensation credit for your inconvenience. My Tilt got cracked (I think it is a manufacturer defect), and I talked to AT&T CS, and I got $200 credit. After all, I paid only $200 for the phone, but I have to pay to replace the screen. Luckily, I got American Express to pay for the repairing charges since I used the AE card to do the purchase. Try!
I have the same exact issue, except I spilled water on mine. When I am on a call for example the phone's dimmer lights up after tapping but no other responses. Everything else is great tho. Now I added a new rom and I can't get past the setup tap screen. Let us know what happened.

Fix for No Sim Detection Problem!

Ok guys I had been without my phone for about 2 weeks due to it not detecting the sim card. After replacing the sim card, as well as the slot and many other parts, I thought the only remedy to fix my phone was by replacing the main board. Through research and having the additional sim slot by my side, I came up with a great idea that finally worked! This is what I did. First, open the sim slot door and locate a tiny black switch, this is the one that is controlled by the switch on the outside. Push it up all the way and power up the phone. Hold press firmly on the sim card against the phone, with the outside door open. Wait for the phone to boot up and the green light to flash, which means it is getting a signal, then you can release your grip and close the door by locking it. Everytime you reset the phone you will have to follow this procedure, but at least the phone will work. I am thankful that I came up with this idea because it saved me from having to buy a new phone. I believe the problem is that the outside switch is not fully catching the inside one, which is why the sim isn't being detected. Hopefully this resolves everyone's problems, because it sure worked for me! Let me know if you have any more problems.
Wow no responses? After all the problems people were having with sim detection? Please post feedback because I was curious if this worked for others as well. Thanks.
id help u out but i had 2 tilts and just fixed this problem of mine today, i just changed the part of the phone with the sim card holder on it and it works perfect.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had an AT&T Tilt for about 6 months with this problem, i just read your post today and that totally fixed my problem, thank you so much!!!!!! Although in the down time of the one Tilt I purchased another one from a friend, oh well now i have two working Tilts, thanks again!!!
worked for me
i just have a small square of cardboard stuck to my sim, then the door pushes the sim against the contacts, but same idea as yours really. but this problem started for me when i replaced a smashed screen so i had assumed i shifted everything a little in the process of putting it back together.
works
i tried your method and that better than holding that door, thanks for the suggestion!!!
Glad to hear it has worked for you guys.

Flashed a buddy's phone tonight. Spent three hours trying to get his phone to read his SIM. Found this thread and your advice worked like a charm. Thanks
No problem. Glad to help. I just wanted to help all the people who were having this problem so they didn't have to deal with what I had to deal with and be without their phone for 2 weeks!
Fantastic this Worked!!!!
This worked straight away. You ought to be congratulated. Ingenious. All these other threads I checked couldn’t find the solution. They talked of dry magnetic head spray cleaner, deoxidizing boards, flashing the phone etc. With some saying success after a few goes. Its kind of funny that what might have been happening for them, is that constant opening & closing the simm card cover in their processes probably inadvertently fixed prob by pushing switch in enough. Whereas your solution goes straight to the problem & solves it. Hilarious. Thanks Heaps Tilt Fanatic. Nice to have my TYTN II back up.

hi guys..i'.m having the same problem...i wonder how u guys do it bcoz when i turned on the phone (while the simdoor is open) the error msg appear "simdoor is unlocked.please locked it. the device will automatically turned off in 10 sec". anyway after I locked the simdoor, the error msg still appear so now my htc got 2 prob. 1 is not detecting sim, another is the simdoor unlocked error msg (even if i already locked it).. hope u guys can help me on this...thank in advance..

No Sim Card - Emergency Calls Only Error on Verizon

Mostly just browse these forums, and as you can see, don't post often.
Since about 2 weeks after I got my Nexus 6 directly from Motorola, I've been having intermittent issues with my sim card. It varies wildly in time frame. Longest I've gone without the message popping up, and losing connectivity is about a week and a half. I shut the device down, restart, and it's back. Sometimes it happens as frequently as within the same 5 minutes. As you can guess, I'm highly irritated.
First, I called Verizon and they were nice enough to send out a new nano sim. Popped it in an adapter, activated in Galaxy S3, and into the Nexus. Didn't solve anything, but at least I can rule out a faulty sim card.
Second, called Motorola to ask for a replacement. 5 business days later I call to ask where my phone is and I'm told that they don't have any "like-new" stock and that they don't know when they will. I ask for a refund to buy another phone and they say it will be 4-6 weeks.
Can someone smarter than I tell me if this is for sure a hardware issue? I'm guessing it is, and that it's specific to my device since I literally can't find anything on the web/forums about others having this issue with the N6.
Help is much appreciated, thanks.
Check your apn settings
provide more info, are you stock, custom rom, unlocked, etc.
You may need to try a nuke and repave to start fresh. After a week, something happened to my SIM on a custom rom and the fix is to nuke and repave and that includes userdata.
so back stuff up but only restore what you seriously cant redo, thats working so far for me.
GL
Can you advise what to check in APN's? (Sorry for the dumb question)
I was rooted running stock rom for a week, but unrooted and factory reset when I thought I was returning it to Motorola. Has had issues both ways.
Try hitting the contacts on the sim card with a pencil eraser.

nexus 5 doesnt work on verizon(not fully at least). the op said that he ordered a replacement, which sounds like you should do, as the nexus 5 did have an issue with coming with a bad sim card holder on occasion.

worst part is that it is happening on an Replacement device after i RMAd my first nexus for a power button problem !!
i hope its software related and can be fixed .. because google is now refusing to rma this as im now out of my warranty period !
just to be clear im not on verizon .. im on a gsm carrier and have tried 4-5 different working sims
it latches on to network and works fine for a few hours and then just drops and refuses to catch networ k...
any other ideas ??
can the bad sim card holder be fixed or repaired ??
Did this ever get figured out for any of you? I have the same issue on a Nexus 6. It won't read my AT&T SIM card at all anymore, but knows it's in there. When I put in a Verizon SIM card, it see the card and updates information in the status section, but still says No Sim Card at top of screen. I am currently in the middle of getting a replacement from Motorola, but now I am worried this will happen on my next one too.

This just happen to me as well, google knows nothing about it, neither does motorola , they are sending me a replacement hopefully that fixes the issue.
I just got out of the shower and suddenly had the "no sim card" message. Restarted the phone, still nothing.
Removed the sim card. Put it back in... Now I have data again. Wtf?
I just noticed this running chroma. It always happened on boot and always went away. Never seen it stock unlocked rooted and tweaked with things like the Motorola command center, tethering, and such.
I have just got a N6 today and mine seems to be doing this. Have you guys had yours replaced?
Eager to know if i need to send it back or if its software. The sim card works fine in my s5.
EDIT: it looks like I can make it do it. If i type really quick , the vibrations/haptic feedback must make it have a poor contact and it disconnects.

I am curious, have you guys figured out this issue? I just got a new Nexus 6 that does this intermittently. The phone can read the card, but then every once ina while (about three times a day) it says 'no sim card - emergency calls only'.
I've noticed that banging mine against a hard surface (I do have a case on) seems to fix it for me, as horrible as it sounds... Mine does not fix itself after a reboot.
That said, it hasn't happened to me since I've had marshmallow on here.
In short. I have no idea what's going on.

I have had my replacement Nexus 6 for about 9 months and have not had this issue occur on the replacement unit. I'd highly suggest sending it in for replacement if you are still under warranty.

Push the SIM tray in really hard!
Push the SIM tray in as hard as you can!!!
I tried every other solution and this worked for me with Nexus 6.
I have same issue No SIM CARD with droid turbo, restart always solve issue, its common problem with Motorola phones, lot pf people are facing this but no solution yet
yeah my shamu after a new sim card did this, took it in, no fix, mytrendyphone service in england claimed they could fix it,, I paid they didnt fix it, kept it two months, sent it back unrepaired.
yes fairly ticked off. wifi only paperweight now.

OK first off I had the same issue. intermittent no sim detected. go worse and worse, until did not detect at all...
First I placed a piece of this card stock behind sim and jammed it into the slot. that worked for a bit and the again it started with the same issue.
and became a pain again...
(FYI, I am an electrician by trade)
What I has appeared to fixed it permanently (so far anyway).
All electrical contacts get a corrosion (a patina layer) some more than others from humidity, sweat, dissimilar metal touching, or just cheap metal..
On a hunch I gooped up the sim contact surface with a de-ox compound (De-oxidation) and worked the sim in and out a few time to "clean the contacts (you could use a small long skinny piece of paper board to to it also (I didn't think of it until after) and insert the Sim. So far it has done the trick.
the is many de-ox compound available (home depot or electrical supply)so are blacking and gritty. what I used was ilsco Non- grit De-ox Compound".
I hope this helps as this seem to be a pretty common issue.
As always, Your actual mileage may vary.

Fingerprint reader not functioning properly

I got my Mi Mix from China/HK (not sure which) from NIS-store in November. The phone has been glorious with the exception of the fingerprint reader.
I enter my fingerprint, one finger, whether once or multiple times, the result is the same. Immediately afterwards it reads well, a couple of hours later it's hit and miss. Half a day later it will not read my fingerprint at all. I've flashed every ROM, BL unlocked, installed TWRP, rooted and installed EU ROM. Cleared cache, davik and user data. I used water and a soft cloth to wipe the fingerprint reader and washed my hands until they're raw.
To compare, I recently bought the US version of the Huawei Mate 9. This phone has lots of problems and is going back, but the fingerprint reader is 99% accurate.
1) Anyone else have this issue and how have you addressed? (I contacted the seller who supposedly, by default, offer a one year warrantly. I am dubious.
2) Anyone know of a repair shop, US or China/HK that might be able to repair this?
Any input is appreciated.

Have you been facing this issue since November or have you just noticed this recently?
Before you send it out for repair, have u tried registering multiple fingers other than just your index fingers?
Can you also ask a friend or someone close, to try the fingerprint sensor. This is very unlikely, but I've heard that some fingerprint sensors aren't capable of scanning every type of fingerprint. While some people have very clear pattern\ridges on their fingerprints, it may be faint for others.
This is why I am suggesting that you ask a friend to test the sensor. This way you can make sure that it is the sensor itself which is defective.
I appreciate your response.
This has been ongoing since I received the device. I've never been able to, reliably, use the fingerprint scanner and count on activating my phone without the real possibility of having to use my pin.
The Mate 9 is the only fingerprint reader that has consistently worked. My note (4 or 5?) just wouldn't do the job and my V20 is just flaky (I guess I'm the flaky one, with so many phones).
I'll start out, renewed, with other fingers, then, if nt successful, get my wife to try the fingerprint reader.
Anyone else have additional suggestions, or email of a repair shop?

From what you say, it looks like the pattern of your fingerprint may be faint or hard to read compared to others. Because the other phones you mentioned like the Note 5 and V20 have really good fingerprint sensors. The Note 4 had a slow swipe-type sensor, so that has been a pain for me as well.
And the Mate 9 may have an excellent sensor or maybe its just the material on the surface of the Mate 9's sensor. Some glass sensors tend to attract even the slightest of moisture or sweat. I've noticed that the sensor of the Mix does this.
See if your partner's fingerprints work fine with the device. In that case, you can rule out that its a defective sensor.
And regarding repairs, I haven't seen any actual spares for the Mix due to the limited production of the device. So I doubt you'll find any repair shops that has parts to service the Mix.
Your best bet would be to send it to the seller for warranty.
Just so anyone interested will know, it's my faulty right index finger. After nearly 8 hrs using my left index finger and not a singe missed scan. I don't know what to think, except thanks to satishp for the insight and supportive words.
I had a problem in which my sensor crashed. I thought it was a hardware problem but a factory reset completely fixed the problem for me. If your device has ongoing issues across multiple ROMs, it is most likely a hardware caused issue.

Glad that I could be of help. Its good to know that the sensor isn't defective and you don't have to send it for warranty anymore. It would have been a hassle to ship your phone to China and not knowing when\if the seller would send it back.
Cheers!

P20 Pro Issues - No Fingerprint Scanner and Now No Fast Charging

Hi Guys
Had my P20 Pro since launch now. Love the phone for the most part but had a couple of annoying issues which I can't fix.
First of all, a few weeks ago the finger print scanner stopped working - and all options relating to it disappeared from the settings screens. Even when I factory reset the only 2 options I get are password/pin etc and face unlock, no finger print.
Second, and this has just started happening today - the phone will no longer fast charge. Again, factory reset has not fixed the issue.
Anyone had similar issues and fixed?
Thats more likely to be a hardware issue as you have factory reset the device ruling out any services that may have been disabled by mistake.
After factory resetting the device can you go to Security & Piracy and Fingerprint ID and then new fingerprint to enroll yourself

That's very strange. Is it responding when you connect it via the USB cable to your PC? Does it show up on your PC
Just to confirm after factory reset:
Fast Charging has stopped
Home button has stopped working including fingerprint authentication

It is, I can transfer files etc. And when connected to plug it charges very slow - but with no charging animation now. Even with original charger which was working fine yesterday.
Home button/finger print scanner have not been working for a couple of weeks, just presumed it would be a setting somewhere and would work it out when I had the time - but it's not. There is no option what so ever for anything related to that button/scanner.
These issues were all happening before a reset - apart from the no charging animation, that has only come about in the last hour when I reset.

If the home button is not functioning then I am sure its a hardware issue.
Have you tried the system recovery option within HiSuite application?
You may need to claim it through warranty

Anybody find solution ? or it is hardware problem and warranty case ?
Same issue twice
My girlfriend got this phone 5 days ago after 2 days the fingerprint stopped working as described. We thought it was a hardware issue so we got a replacement.
After less than a day with the new phone the same issue happened again. If anyone has any help with this please help. I can't accept we have been very unlucky.

It's not even opening the fingerprint settings. As soon as you click on it, goes back to the home screen. Very strange. Going to claim a new one under warranty as it's still in the 30 day period. And of it happens again, not sure what to do.
Now having this issue too believe it's a Google / security setting issue rather than hardware.... I turned on ok Google and face recognition also disappeared! Turned it off and face recognition came back... Just got to find out what is causing it.... I was in a rush earlier to get to my home page and was bashing the screen to get it to recognise my face something about finger print popped up but now can't find anything about it... If you search it in settings it comes up with a few finger print options but when you click them it takes to out of the search bar and nothing else! HELP
I got new phone.
I just got new phone. Provider just said, that it is not repairible and saod after week you will get replacement.
My finger id has just disappeared too today. No option for selecting it in the menu under settings. face regog still working.
I noticed this same problem with the fingerprint today. No mention of it in the settings and it just suddenly stopped working.

Hi guys, just wanted to also add my voice to this thread as a p20 pro owner in Canada, went to bed two nights ago, and woke up the next morning to a finger print reader that not only no-longer works, but whose options also disappeared from the settings menu. I went ahead and spoke to Huawei support about it. I was told that I could either wait for an ota fix to this problem, meaning they know it's a software issue and they aren't letting it be known to the general consumer, I was given a timeframe of 6 months. I was also given the option of sending my phone in for servicing? I told the tech that didn't seem to make sense because if it's a software issue that would be resolved with an OTA update, what would a service tech be able to do for me? They wouldn't be able to put the update on my phone until my service provider okay'd it, or Google okay'd it...and it's clearly not a hardware issue if they are working on a OTA fix....I was perplexed. Regardless that's all I know for now. There was an emui update pushed to my phone yesterday, and the security option for the finger print reader returned but it would freeze up when I tried to set my print, and then it disappeared again. Crazy how a flagship phone at the $1000 mark could have an issue like this without some sort of public service announcement letting people know. This is the only thread I can find on this issue

Additionally I was hung-up on after asking to speak to a higher tier agent or a manager/supervisor. The lady put me on hold and then hung up on me. I had just given her my number and email and she didn't bother trying to contact me back lol.
Hey, I've got a p20 pro as well and my fingerprint sensor stopped working not even a month after I got it, and like you said the setting disappeared however on my phone the sensor got really hot. Anyway I took it back to spark, and they sent it back to huawei to repair it, it should be under warranty so you should be able to get it fixed for free. They replaced the front screen of my phone and so far everything is working again. However if this were to happen again I'd just opt for a phone with less problems...

Yeah I agree, for a phone that cost over $1000 I want to know why it has this issue after it has come out? I mean, they should have fixed all these problems with the tests they ran on these phones for who knows how long. But they overlooked this.
