Alternate 22mm straps? - LG Watch Urbane

Anyone replace out your strap/band yet? How does it look?

Yep, hated the stock band. I purchased this one... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EYVBJA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Super quick review... Matches the watch like it was built for it. I've had this brand before and it held up well which isn't surprising, it feels like a piece of decent quality. Quicker to take on and off and less likely to drop your watch which is true all of straps of this type versus a buckle. Regrets = zero.

Sweet! I just ordered one too....

I wonder if they make that one in the rose gold that matches the gold Urbane. I will have to look into that...

Its much easier to match up the stainless than various gold, rose, graphite, ti, etc. bands/straps/bracelets. I would consider taking it to a larger shop where they have a good inventory and try to match it up.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005K2R4IO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This was the wand band I ordered when I bought the watch. It matches the watch perfectly. I attached some pictures below.

I am curious about how you charge the watch with a metal band. Could someone please post a picture of your watch on the stock charger to show how you do it?

The magnet is strong enough to hold the charger to the phone in most any position including the watch laying on its side. You can do it however you want.

Got the SUPER engineer Type II based on reviews
Amazon item B00CSE7IJ2
I know it seems like it's a bit pricey compared to others like the Hadley Roma but I'm super impressed with the quality. It's very heavy and the edges are not rounded over like it was mass produced. The links that can be removed for sizing have screws and they are super easy to adjust. I also like the buttons on the flip part of the band closure.
$72 bucks is still a hell of a lot cheaper than those rip off apple metal bands. Can't imagine them being any higher quality than this.
Important note: the 2.5mm fat boy pins that come with this larger band do not fit into the body of the LG Urbane because the lugs or tips are 0.8mm instead of the tiny ones that came on the existing leather strap band. For now, I'm using the pins that came with the watch, which are standard 22mm, but with smaller lugs. I could not find another vendor who made a 2.5mm pin with smaller tips since these larger bands are designed to go on Seiko's or diving watches.
Update: My plan is to put the fat boy pins that came with the watch in my dremel and use a micro diamond file ($13 on amazon) to reduce the lug down to a diameter that works in the Urbane. I will post an update if it works out and post links to the files I bought. Don't see why it wouldn't work and I don't think there is any other choice if you want to utilize the fat boy pins...which I do.
Stay tuned...pics coming.
Peter

ptchan5, could you explain in greater detail the Fatboy 2.5mm lug and LGs .8mm tips?
Keep us posted in the project

Anyone here thinking of going with a dark brown aligator band with the silver watch?
I would love to here what you guys think... or am I the only one not going with the metal braclet.

I like this also.
Metal bands are not my thing.

Fat boy 22mm Spring Pins MOD
This is a follow-up to my previous post.
I used a dremel to reduce the diameter of the lugs on the 2.5mm fat boy spring pins that come with the heavy diver watch metal bands. I searched high and low and I believe all the thick spring pins come with 0.8-1.0mm lugs at the tips which are too big for the body of the LG Urbane. Turns out the pins that come with the Urbane are actually smaller than the holes in the watch body, but the fat boy pins are just a wee bit too large.
This MOD took about 5-8 minutes to do and worked perfectly! Now you can use the spring pins that were supposed to go with the larger metal band.
All you need to do is insert the spring pin into the dremel about half way and turn the dremel on to low setting. I bought the cheapest set of micro files I could find on Amazon Prime for $14 bucks and I ended up only using a single file out of the set. The one I used was the 90 degree square one so I could easily just hold it up to the lug for a minute or two and moved it forward and backward while watching the lug leave metal residue on the file. The 316L stainless steel pins are not soft metal! So it's nearly impossible to mess this one up. Once I got the pins to be reduced down in size visually I tested them in the watch before proceeding to do the rest of the pin ends.
Again, don't waste your time searching ebay or Amazon for 2.5mm pins with smaller lug pins. They don't exist. Besides by the time you buy them and find out they don't work you could have owned a nice set of micro files and been done with the MOD on the original pins that shipped with the watch band.
Very happy with the results. Ping me if none of this makes sense. Enjoy!
** Apparently can't post the pics, so ping me and I'll email them to you; maybe someone else can post them for me **

That's not a factor for me. I'm getting that one because I liked the design best. I'm sure it would fit the urbane just fine.

I'm not much of a watch geek and have never paid too much attention to what strap I'm using. I used a NATO strap with my Pebble and the original straps with both my Pebble Steel and LG G Watch R.
However, I keep reading how uncomfortable the Urbane's strap is and it got me thinking: could I use the one in the Watch R with the Urbane? I find that one pretty comfortable.

Gorgeous!
Finally received my new metal bracelet and it beats anything I have ever seen, it really makes my watch look fair superior than even an apple watch

I just saw an armband for the mytouch at a Tmobile, but it was still behind the counter, so I think it's almost here.
I'm also waiting for it. I've been running with the phone in my pocket, but I get scared that it might get jostled to death.
they have armbands at walmart for ipods, I use it for biking. the phone fits perfectly with it and I can still use the touch screen also. its in the fitness section and its about $8.

Compared to ipod the Magic is like 10mm higher, 20mm thinner and not much slimmer. I THINK. Erm
EDIT: fits in well enough, feels secure, I like! I feel the need to mention Buddy runner here, awesome app.

They charge a lot for just about every accessory...
The rep at one of the t-mo stores here gave me the white charger and red gel for the price of the kit with the black charger and black gel...but I didn't get the mug included. Oh well, my wife got what she wanted for $10 less than I paid for them individually.
The store did not have the fitness kit. Wonder if they'll start selling the arm band separately. $5 arm band + $5 belt + $30 water bottle...lol.
There is a solution right now. I've used it for months on my Dream, but now that it's gone to that great cellphone store in the sky (phone died while flashing new rom) , I plan on using it for the Magic.
It all involves a case made by a company called Krusell. They make very high quality leather cases for both the magic and the dream . On the back is a mount that allows you to use your phone for running, bicycling, in your car, or just clip it in your pocket securely without the ugly clips that other companies use.
All of this is purchasable through Amazon.
Here is the link for the case for the Dream
http://www.amazon.com/Krusell-75431...12?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1256415764&sr=1-112
and here is the link for the sports pack
http://www.amazon.com/Krusell-Multi..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1256416577&sr=1-1
Now I'm willing to bet with a little bit of creative effort (and some superglue) you could pick up a less expensive case , and just scavenge the mount off the back of it. (for example the blackberry pearl case uses the same mount, but its 1/2 the price off of Amazon.)
had pretty good experience with this armband
http://www.staples.com/Griffin-Streamline-Sport-Armband-for-iPod/product_792628?cmArea=SEARCH
It has some flaws: back is not insulated so I had to wear it over my sleeve, a little hard to operate through thick front skin. But in general it's inexpensive, fits pretty well and does it job
I bought this Tunebelt. It is for the iPod Touch but fits the Magic like a glove. There is a hole in the bottom for headphone connector and you can control your touch when running.
I also use Cardio Trainer from the market and it is great.
SAMBO, Do you still like the iGadgetz armband?
Any new good Arm Band?
Or
Is Tune Belt AB5 worth the extra 7 £ compared to iGadgitz Neoprene?

I have one question about the Igadgitz. Is it possible to connect your headphones i the center-bottom, where the usb is placed on an Magic? I cant find at picture that confirms this possibillity
I use this one for some months now and I am totally happy with it:

You can connect your headphones through a hole at the bottom but I prefer a stereo bluetooth handsfree. I bought this one from ebay:

Definitely it isn't the best around but it is very handy when running because you can easily pause/skip tracks/adjust volume.

[MOD] Simple FlyGrip-style case mod for better one-hand grip - now with kickstand

Hi, I came with a neat idea of really simple case mod - not sure if anyone came with a similar idea before. The trick is to add a elastic band to the back of an existing phone case, so you can put your fingers under it for easier device holding. It provides function similar to FlyGrip accessory, but it is cheaper and much thinner.
To do it, you'll need a case that covers the back of the phone, 8-10 inches of soft elastic tape (which you can get in most sewing or craft shops for about $1/yard), scissors and stapler (or needle and thread if you want to make it more accurate) - see attached photos for detailed. step-by-step instructions.
First variant does not require any alterations for your case - if you have elastic tape that is narrow enough (1/2 inch or 10mm) you put it through camera opening at the top and speaker opening at the bottom. Pull the band so it is stretched and connect both ends from the reverse side of your case with few staples (or needle and thread) - see steps 1 through 7 in attached photos.
Second variant requires you to cut two holes in your case, but it allows you to use 3/4 or 1 inch wide tape which looks and feels nicer. I guess you can use a knife to make these cuts, but I've used the Dremel tool on my case. If you make cuts thin enough and slightly narrower than band width, the band would be held in place by friction, so you would not even need to connect both ends.
Please let me know if you find this mod useful.
[12/27]: I've also made a simple kickstand out of used plastic card - I guess might not work for cases with very smooth back, but it works for my case. Kickstand it is thin in disassembled form, so you can carry it in your wallet or between the case and the back of your phone.
Ha, that's pretty neat, I like it, just need to see if I can find any elastic band around ... Thank you
Great idea!
I don't like using a case. I wonder how well this would work if I just cut slits in my back cover.

If you use a really narrow band (1/4" or so), you can run it through camera and speaker holes without the need to cut back cover (sorry I only had a white 1/4" band). If you decide to cut the cover, remember that it has NFC antenna in top 1/3 of it - do not cut there.
Very very clever! I'm going to try this, did you have to test a lot of different straps before you found the best one? which did you use? Where did you buy it?
if anyone is wondering what the flygrip is that OP references, I did a review.

I've started with 1/4" band that I had at home and then went to sewing supplies shop and got 1/2" and 3/4" bands they sell by length for about $1/yard. So far I've tested 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4" bands and, I find 3/4" to be the most comfortable and it also has some texture that improves the grip - you can see texture here: http://www.beverlys.com/non-roll-elastic-bundle-3-4-x-18-yd-black.html
I did not have a chance to test 1/2" textured band (as they did not had black color in stock) or 1" band but I think they might be good too.
You can also get these online in 1 yard packages, for example on amazon www.amazon.com/Dritz-9306B-Non-Roll-Elastic-4-Inch/dp/B003WV3RE0 but it seem to cost more there.
Think ill be trying this out!
nice

What an awesome idea. I prefer to try DIYs like this but my only concern is making sure the staples hold so the strap doesn't fail since I don't have insurance on my phone.

A simple variant
Nice idea. A simple variant, needing only a large rubber band and a paper clip. Run the ends of the rubber band through the camera and plug holes in the case, attach inside with a paperclip, and you are done.
Superb innovative idea !!!
nice mod. and brilliant idea for one handed usage
Good work, thanks for all of the ideas

My watch has been shipped but I haven't received it yet. The stock band is too small for my wrist so I'll either have to replace it or do the "baseball cap mod" to the stock one.
I replaced mine immediately with a $8 band from Walmart. It's the black nylon with a Velcro closure, no stupid lettering.I think the part that the watch attaches to is made of lycra. Not sure, but it is stretchy enough to allow for the charger to be installed between the watch and the band. Came with new pins. Buy the size that says 16-20mm. It is so much better looking and way more comfortable than the stock band.
Here is my replacement band. I think the original is nice, but this is something different. It's just a bit more loose and comfortable.
Amazon "Steel and rubber bracelet for the luminox 3100 series dive watches " for 39.95 plus tax.
It has a solid, but not heavy feel. For me it's OK.
However, to present another view, my wife does NOTlike it; since there is no steel/silver in the watch body. She thinks that the band doesn't quite work.

Does the heart rate sensor really work with that gap between it and your skin? There are posts about people having trouble getting it to work with full contact.
A couple of metal bands I ordered from eBay:
I prefer mesh style bands lately. This one I liked because the links are more pronounced and chunky so it goes more with the size of the watch. It's like black chainmail and more rugged looking without going overboard in size.
I am currently using this one more because I like the "lighter" feel of it. Very similar to the bands on Skagen watches I've owned.
***You should note that the Spigen sticker protector is peeling off at the corners nearest the bezel after only a few days of application!!! I've done quite a few of these installs on other devices, so I know it was installed properly, just seems that those corners are hard for it to stick to. I will write them and see if I can get another set, and if those also do the same thing, I won't recommend this product. Sort of puts me at a disadvantage because I am nervous of the rubbery coating wearing off eventually.

Yes, it came with pins and so far I like the fitment and quality. Mesh bands are designed to be very light, so expect that it's not going to "feel" heavy especially if you relate weight to quality. It is heavier feeling than the finer mesh one, though. I expect that eventually the black anodizing will wear/rub off like all of these dark/black metal items I've purchased before. Time will only tell how quickly this happens.

[Review] Aerios Moduul Smartwatch Dock (LG G Watch R)

Aerios makes the best Smartwatch Docks, IMHO. I ordered it and the package arrived today. Just a few days after ordering. I'm in the USA and they are in Australia. It was shipped FedEx Express. Keep in mind, the amount shown on the web site is Australian Dollars, not US Dollars. So do the conversion, and the dock + shipping probably costs far less for most of you. Don't let the displayed price give you sticker shock .
The dock comes in a nice box, with an additional 3 foot charge cable. Either the supplied cable or another can be used. The hole in the dock for a microUSB is big enough for any I have ever seen. But the supplied one fits the most snug and fills the full whole. In the photos, I'm using a Blackberry MicroUSB charger.
Far as types they offer. Although they have Black with Walnut and Silver with Oak, the Silver with Oak is the only one in stock today.
The bottom of the dock, has a pad with a plastic cover. If you remove the plastic, there is sticky stuff on the bottom, in case you want to hold the dock in place on a desk. You have to supply your own round charger dock, to insert in the wooden circular cut out, and you need your own USB power plug to use with the cable.
I've attached many pictures, which I hope tell the story best.
I'll be happy to answer any questions.
I also received mine yesterday, really a quality product! The only issue I have is that my leather (closed) watch strap is a little too stiff and a too heavy: it "pushes" the watch a little away from the pins ... so I guess I have to manually modify the stand (top and bottom chamfered) in order to keep my watch connected. Do you also experience that problem?

See the strap in the photos showing my watch. I replaced the strap.
I've never been a real "fan" of LG's pin charger dock. I've had issues positioning things right, even on a flat surface. It takes a moment to position things "just right" in the Aerios dock, but it looks so sweet once in place. I don't blame Aerios, since I had issues with positioning before getting their dock. My strap does not cause the watch to fall off though. The stock leather strap is a bit heavier. Just make sure you position things well. I would not buy a new strap just to test if it works better if I were you.
I just got Wear Charging Widget and it looks really nice on the dock. Also, here's a related article about the widget. It is the only thing I've found that keeps the watch showing anything the entire time it is charging.

Just got my silver version in. Ordered earlier this week and just got it today. FAST from AUS to TX, USA!! I think the shipping alone cost a good penny lol. For my take....the stand is very very well done. I also picked up the shapeways one last month. And to compare, this one is much more polished but because I use a lot of third party watch bands on my LG G Watch, the current band kind of pushes the lg dock charger out a bit. Whereas the one I have at home has a deeper cavity to house the lg charger and the angle on this is a tad too vertical. I need to grab some double sided tape to hold into place.
I have my Brembo stick that works a bit better for $20 bux lol. But doesn't look as good lol. Do I like it? Yes, would I recommend it? for $60 bux shipped, I want to say...I'm on the border on this. If you like the look of it, then go for it. I am ok with it. It somewhat matches my desk a bit at work. But I would recommend the Shapeways one for sure. I use that every night without issue.

Cheap Belkin Phone Dock fits G Watch R

G'Day All.
After breaking the Buckle on my Stock Band and having a cheap Temporary one piece replacement fitted. I found that an old Belkin Charging Dock for my now retired SGSII fits the G Watch R.

Wow, what a great idea!!! I've been trying to think of a way to hold my Urbane charger. I have several old desk docks laying around and the first generic dock I tried works perfectly. Thanks!!!

I thought of this idea too, but went through so many on DX and FP before giving up and making my own. Will probably buy this since it looks like it's a perfect fit!
That is a good idea. I should have one of these charger somewhere?
I bought the Belkin dock, and it did not turn out as I planned. Like the 4th pic, the charging piece does not sit at the correct angle to match the back. Angling it forward will make it too vertical and the watch will detach from the contacts. Using tape to angle it back and secure it to the back of the dock creates a gap where the weight of the watch will force it off the charging piece. I could brace the bottom with something thin like an SD card, but this is inelegant
Long story short, I wasted $15, and have much higher hopes for this $20 solution instead
