[Q] gingerbread stuck - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a s advance from oman(asian arab country) it is on gingerbread and when i check for updates no update is being shown? Are there other models of s advance with no update from gingerbread? If so the rooting and flashing rom procedure are same or different?

Hi there.
1. It's necessary to note that samsul not do the update again on device S Advance through direct ota for those who still use the stock Gingerbread (GB). While still using the stock GB I once never get a firmware update but only minor updates. BUT you can to do firmware updates manually, by downloading firmaware directly from some of the sites that provide specific firmware for your country, such as: sammobile*com, samsung-updates*com.
Note: I assume if you expect an update to a firmaware. But if you run into problems updates an application from playstore, then I suggest you to do a wipe applications through: settings - application - select playstore and wipe data. Then try reboot. But if it still doesn't work then, try to wipe data / factory reset through default recovery.
2. If you still want to use the stock GB and want to root your device, then you can follow a guide on the thread here. You can try some of the menu that is available there may exist that are suitable for firmware are you using now. Honestly I never tried it.
3. For flashing method is the same on every device model samsung, using Odin application. For the method of rooting the device janice as far as I know have several methods, depending on which firmware you use now. If you are using firmware Stock GB then you can follow the above method. But if you use the stock firmware Jelly Bean (JB) then you can use the method on a thread here.
Hopefully it helps & Good luck.

So the matching firmware i download i can flash it using odin without needing root or anything?and if i dont update and root gingerbread, can install cm11 from gingerbread?

The end result im looking for is cm11 running on my device. Your help is much appreciated

Recommended Stock ROM for GNote (India)

I am very new to this forum. Recentely I have purchased GNote - Indian version. This is my first Android device.
Installed firmware / stocke ROM details as below:
Baseband Version: N7000DDKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXKL3-CL793489 [email protected]#2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XXL3
I think above is the latest / updated firmware / stock ROM available for Indian GNote.
I want to update it to the latest / stable firmware / stock ROM version (I don't want rooting). Can someone please guide me by providing step by step details?
Thanks in advance

If you want custom rom then you need root, otherwise you hav to use pc odin, which will raise flash counter n you will lose warranty, n that needs JIG hardware to reset.
You have option to flash any stock ROM, above said link is best choice to download stock ROM. You will find installation guide on same thread, post #2 n 3.
Btw i m in india n using latest German ROM la4 n is much stable.

Hi Dr. Ketan. Thanks for your reply. I don't want to lose warranty and I don't want to rooting the device. I want to install latest stable samsung official stock ROM which may be available in another country. In that scenario what will be the recommended steps?

Install Latest version of Kies.
download the Stock ROM from the above link (i prefer LA4)
extract it and you ll find one .md5 file
download Odin from same link
attach downloaded .md5 file to PDA tab
in Odin make sure Re-Partition is UN-ticked and do not select any pit file. rest of them let it be.
now turn off your device
restart in download mode by pressing Volume down + home + Power after that just press volume up to confirm download mode
connect Device to PC via data cable (now you can see yellow block in Odin)
now press Start and wait for complete boot.
Thats it....
(Flashing this ROM will not erase any DATA)

In that case also, you can have XXLA4 german ROM, which counts as most stable stock ROM.
Ranjan.alva have gave you a link, just above this post, follow it, you can get installation guide, How to flash ROM with odin on same thread post#2
EDIT : Ranjan have already edited his post n made easy for you. just follow it. still you have any doubt, you will get image guide on same thread post # 2
Thanks a lot both of you. Now I have one question if I upgrade to XXLA4 German ROM weather I will get future update (like ICS) via OTA? Or every time I need to install updated firmware via KIES or Odin?
And after upgrading to XXLA4 german ROM if I want to go back to the earlier stock ROM (XXL3) which already installed how can I do that?

M posting new guide in evening about how to update rom, stay tuned to my development section thread ' how to root ....'
If you install LA4, you wont get update over OTA or even with Kies, you have to update it with odin.
The way which you will update la4, same way with odin you can revert back to xxkl3

[Q] Problems Rooting the SGN

I have the GT-N7000 Vodafone GR with XXLA6 Kernel.
I 've tried all methods I could find in XDA and/or on the Internet (zergRush, reverting in older stock ROM, reverting rooting and updating to latest ROM, ODIN, CRW etc)
All attempts that succeeded have resulted to one unstable Note; instability meaning that it reboots, repeatedly and uncontrollably, at any time it wishes, especially after a normal restart (power off or simple reboot). Or, in some cases, losing the 3G data connection and having to reboot to regain it.
I need root access for ad blocking and quick rebooting. I'm not really into overclocking or tweaking the device but I'd do it if possible without losing stability.
Any ideas how this can be achieved?
Thanks in Advance

I think, the only option to only get root is to downgrade your note to a rootable rom and then root it with zergRush.
Please let me know if you need further help.
Alternative and easier way for you to root your Note would be to flash using PC Odin one of the pre-rooted stock Roms.
After that download the corresponding CF-Root kernel (i.e. if you flashed LC1 Rom, download LC1 CF-Root kernel) and flash it through Mobile Odin to inject CWMR.
That's all.

Don't know about this thread Bookmarked it.
You can use this method 'cause it's the easier one.
I've tried ODIN with older Stock Unfortunately as soon as I upgrade to latest ROM it becomes unstable
The thing with the pre-rooted is that none is Greek Vodafone and I need the latest Vodafone GR
Thanks for the replies
Anyone else?

The usual remedy for system instability is just to do a factory reset once.
Everything usually behaves nicely after that.
Won't it be unrooted by the factory reset as I'll be "upgraded" to the latest stock ROM?

No, never. Reset just erases your personal apps and data, and doesn't touch the system.
OK! Thanks a zillion Starting the process....
Looks all right I'll monitor and update in case of problems. FYI for better or for worse I wiped/FSed BEFORE and AFTER downgrading the ROM and rooting
Just now More than 36 hours of operating smoothly and greatly, it started again rebooting at will with no GSM signal etc.
Any ideas?

Why do you need 'Greek Vodafone', as you put it.
There is nothing specific about the Vodafone rom except perhaps some bloatware.
Don't all of these ROMs support the Greek language? Under language/keyboard, my ROM displays Greek, I believe it is the euro version

I need the Greek Vodafone Menu "app" that comes with it
OK 72+ hours after a new factory reset NO problems appear. I stronly believe that the issues were brought by too may apps installed. All previous times I had >190 apps Now I kept it <150 and it seems to work fine. (Could this mean that I have a hardware problem on my phone's memory chips?)
Any how the road was:
A) Downgrade to a rootable ROM
B) Root
C) Factory reset
D) Upgrade to the latest ROM with CWM
E) Factory reset
F) Full reinstallation from GP(Just to be on the safe side
That is all> If I have any news/probs I'll update
Thanks all for your help

[Q] Root XXLA6 question

Hi all.
Finally got a Note and love it, but while I wait for official ICS here in the UK, I'd like to keep stock 2.3.6 GB but safely root it.
There's so much info here, it makes me a bit nervous in-case I pick the wrong method.
I have this:
https://www.box.com/s/1dfacc6107713602d2e8
and would like to know what method I should use to root.
Thanks

Use Dr. Ketan's method!
Go here and follow the instruction for your Rom.
Edit: Just saw your picture, you have LA4 not LA6 on your device, that means that you can flash a Direct Rootable Rom!
Thanks for the reply but I'm a bit confused, my Note shows Build: GINGERBREAD XXLA6 as does the Kernel, so are you saying that it's the Baseband version : N7000XXLA4 that I should be paying attention to?
Also according to Kies it's PDA:LA6 / PHONE LA4 / CSC LA1 (XEU)
yes la4 is the rom version you are using, you will need to downgrade to be able to root
which rom do you suggest I downgrade to and still allow update via Kies?
Will the downgrade via Odin up my flash counter and give me the triangle?

go look at the root thread, there is a link for kj1, which is non wipe rom so all your settings will stay in tact
no it wont give you the triangle because it is a stock rom

I bought the Galaxy Note N7000 yesterday and I have exactly the same android-, baseband-, kernel version and build number. The only difference is I'm from the Netherlands and using Vodafone.
Now I've been looking for a way to root it, but I also wondered which XXLA# I should use for it.. I saw the reply of the downgrade (ofcourse) but I am wondering: those r for Poland and Germany... Or doesn't that matter and I can root it anyway w/o bricking the phone?
Post november roms are difficult to root, best optuon is to go to pre december 2011 rom
Or go to ICS and use cwm. Zip and superuser. Zip method

Well yeah, I get that point, but the thing is: I'm kinda noob with this. To be honest: my roommates rooted my galaxy s for me, but they did it so fast that I didn't get half of what they did..
My eventual goal is to learn how to root a smartphone and upgrade mine to android ics. My current android version is an unrooted stock 2.3.6 and I wanna go for a rooted ICS, but I already start to wonder now if I can upgrade my phone to rooted ICS immediately from the 2.3.6... Could u guide me a little in this?
By the way: sorry if I ask some pretty obvious questions that might have already been answered elsewhere on the forum, but I have been looking all over the forum and just don't know which info I should use from which posts anymore..
If you want ics then it is very easy.
First flash ics and then root it., ics is directly rootable.
I recommend first hard reset on gb rom for clean installation.
All informatikn regarding ics update n root, u can find on first link on my signature.

Well, I thought the safest way to get me ICS on the phone was through updating with Samsung Kies. After this I was planning to put CWM in the folder sdcard/external_sd and Busybox on the internal sd, but...
I got it updated now, but I lost the folder external_sd.. I can't create a new folder with this name either.. I don't actually have an external SD card, but if I remember it well, I didn't need it either. I have seen the folder external_sd for sure in there..
Edit: Bought an external sd card and did the root like u said, but without flashing back to GB. It worked! Thanks alot for the clear walkthrough! Hail dr. Ketan!

Help on upgrading to ics firmware

i have a unit with UBKK1 baseband version, which i learned was a brazilian rom. Now i currently live in the Philippines and i cant get an ICS update thru kies here because of the rom. i went to the samfirmware site and found a Philippine rom, my question is can i flash this rom over the old GB brazilian rom using odin without any problems? my phone is currently unrooted thru the one click method, it was previously rooted thru the same method.
Ive also read you can change the country code, if i change it to the Philippine code and update thru kies will it work??
if you change the csc then yes you should be able to upgrade with kies tho i always download the rom i want then use pc odin its just a personal preference
Why don't you download Stock ICS ROM directly.... And flash it using pc odin??
can i download any stock ICS rom and just flash it with odin without any problems?
Yes you can.
Ive just now rooted my note on brazilian rom (stock GB rom), if i upgrade to the taiwanese rom using pc odin will i still retain root? and do i need to uncheck the usb debugging before proceeding with pc odin?
No you wont keep root.

if you want to flash phone in odin then phone should be in download mode, usb debugging is not matter, and you can root your phone again after flash, vie cf root make search at xda you will found that.

I would buy Mobile Odin Pro from the market, and flash this rom from here http://www.hotfile.com/dl/156659405/b6c3080/N7000DXLP9_N7000OLBLP6_XTC.zip.html . This will flash the correct rom and keep root.
thanks for all the helpful replies, i was able to successfully flash taiwanese ics firmware update using pc odin. and you guys are right, i did lose root. now the only problem is how to go back on root as i've frozen a lot of apps on titanium backup before and those apps aren't showing after the update. it seems like flashing over to a newer firmware didnt reset the phone. all my previously installed apps are still there.
Guys, after updating to ics, i couldn't install apks using astro file manager or even the stock file manager.Pressing the install button won't work. Previously on gb stock rom everything works. Is this an ics bug?

If you follow that instructions you will be fine as long after flashing dont factory reset or recovery data wipe. The only solution to be safe is to have safe ics kernel like speedmod k3-3 or franco r3,r4,r5& r6.

Yes you will no longer get an update. You can always use the pc odin to update dont worry.
If you follow those instruction you will loose your root but you can always get rooted if you flash speedmod k3-3.

If you flash ics your in ics. If flash gb your in gb. There is no dual boot.
Sorry going to bed. Just follow the instruction you'll be fine. If your not sure, just remain in gb, you will get better batery life compare to ics.
ok thanks...battery life is important...oh well i just thought maybe i could run the ics rom but have a safe firmware...
one more question , kies asks me to update my firmware, will updating to the latest firmware which i assume is lc1 , will updating delete all my game data files?
All stock ics is no wipe, it will not delete your data.
If an update im sure it is ice cream sandwich android, if its not then i dont know its a wipe or no wipe but if its a wipe then it will delete all your data better back it up if i were you.
