[Q] Lollipop on Tombile S6- bad time to get the s6? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

Was thinking about getting the S6..... with all the complains about lollipop, is the tmobile version effected? I have a note 2 and it runs smooth with no memory issues. Don't want to jump into the S6 if it's the opposite.

That's exactly my point my gs3 and wife's gs5 can multitask like a champ.
Has yo be a gs6 thing.....perhaps a new touch wiz thing

Are you used to an iphone? since it multitasks like one.
Since lots of other people are having the same issue

Honestly, you can't really compare the GS6 to the iPhone. The hardware and software are completely different. On top of that, the OS is optimized for every single bit of hardware in the iPhone, as Apple exclusively releases updates directly to users. Android goes through Google > Samsung > Carriers, which can all do things to the OS to degrade performance.

Actually I was only comparing the multitasking .
With all the constant redraws when switching back and forth

Its not that bad really. Far from ideal for sure but the apps come back quickly at least . Never once have I said to myself that I wanted to return this phone because of it. But yeah its far from ideal and I dont know how they missed it while testing the firmware.

[Q] Thinking of switching to iPhone 4s

Ok, I've been on Android since the early G1 days. Next had a my touch slide and now the my touch 4g. I have been thinking about getting an iPhone 4s because I have all Macs in the house and an iPad. They just work. The iPhone sounds good because of the interaction between it and my network. Streaming, etc...
I like Android os and was thinking about the galaxy s2 or maybe the upcoming necks prime. The thing that bothers me with android is a lot of fragmentation. I know the prime would be the best because it would be upgraded earlier than everything else, plus ICS coming with it. But the allure of the phone working well will my network sounds good. Plus, face it, androids music apps aren't that great. But I just can't decide. Anyone have any real time with either. No fan boys, let's have an honest comparison. Thanks
Tbh, if you aren't a major customized android just falls short. I use my phone for games, music, movies, and interaction. For that I chose wp7, I likely would have gone iOS if not for the tiny screen and ugly UI but if you use apple products for your other devices then I see no reason not to go the iPhone route and the 4s is going to be sweet once they release that infinity blade sequel.

I just have to ask, what doesn't work on your android device?
As for iOS or Macs, lion upgrade was a mess and my experience with the ipad hasn't been that stellar. Lot of apps just do not work or closes without an error message and this includes the stock browser. I've actually avoided ton of apps purely because of numerous complaints about latest apps not running properly (ie EA games, half dozen document viewers, etc)

Don't like the force closes and that kind of stuff. And updates never come. Custom Roms, sure but half the time they have problems. Just not sure. I like iOS but the small screen size and lack of sd slot bother me the most. Build quality is great though.

Why not wait for the Nexus prime first before deciding to buy the iPhone 4S?

[Q] Are you satisfied with the S6's performance?

Poll
I've been impressed with everything other than the performance, to be honest. Coming from the Nexus 5 and M8, lag in Chrome, the Play Store, etc., make this phone feel like a downgrade.
This is launch software and the chipset in the S6 is insanely powerful so we should see smooth performance after some updates, but until then: help me, what are your thoughts?
I put together a poor man's guide to improving the S6's performance here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/how-managed-to-reduce-lag-t3077844
If you're disappointed, then return it, don't start 2 or 3 threads about the topic.

You voted "Very satisfied". Why am I not surprised?
It's an important topic. Maybe it hurts to hear your new phone has lag but it's better to gauge opinions and create solutions than to cry on XDA and cover up the issue.
Unfortunately, this is just the lag everyone associates with TouchWiz. The nexus 5 probably has a tenth the amount of services running out of the box than the s6. This would get better with root, but that may never happen with the AT&T derivative. (See AT&T note 4 forums as an example.. )
Like TechSavy mentioned, I'd probably return the phone. Not because it's not a bad device, but because your already accustomed to vanilla android. =/

I had the S3 and S4 so I've experienced the worst of Touchwiz. Maybe I expected too much out of the S6.
Definitely not returning it. It's not like the performance is bad, just not as good as advertised.

Your threads are not even remotely creating solutions, you're suggesting people turn off 75% of the features of the phone just to try and bump performance by a negligible amount.
Read your bold statement and think about what you just said....YOU ARE actually crying about performance on XDA on both the threads you started, and created the other thread specifically to cover up the issue......
Irony.
Yes, I did vote very satisfied. You know why? Because I tested/used the phone before I accepted it as a keeper. I also realize its just a phone. Yes I use it a LOT, so I'd like it to perform well. But you act as if a slight twitch when swiping from one screen to the next is causing you to have to start new threads on online forums on how to help people "deal with the current situation of the device". Seriously?
I'm actually the opposite of a fanboy in this instance, I simply realize my phone doesn't play any detrimental part in my day to day activities of life. I'm pretty sure people will survive with the phone performing exactly as it currently does.
PS my rant on your threads is not directed necessarily towards you, but more towards the idea that with every new device I get (about once per month or two) there are always ten or twenty new threads in that particular devices threads raging on how the "performance of the device sucks, I'm taking this POS back, seriously dissappointed in (enter your favorite manufacturer here)". Blah Blah Blah..... I feel like its almost half the threads on XDA these days.
.
Whatever, man. You're right about most things but I'm not like you. I'm an enthusiast who will do anything to make my phone as efficient as possible. A lot of people are like this, especially with Samsung/
You keep assuming I think people should cripple their phone and turn everything off. You're still not understanding what I wrote. Honestly, I don't care though. The Bloatware is the biggest problem. The other points, like I KEEP saying, are for people who have no idea how many sensors/features are in this phone because they're new. I just have higher standards than you in performance. In my mind the "it's Touchwiz not Stock" argument falls off when it has an Octacore A57-53, DDR4 Ram, and Android 5.0+. I think: "Scrolling is STILL choppy?". And Samsung advertised themselves it would perform like stock.. I've been through a ton of Android phones and the S6 feels like a downgrade in this area and this area only.
Don't think I or the people who started the other threads are freaking out about the phone, we are just merely trying to overcome the cripple that AT&T applied to the S6.
Maybe you spend too much time in the General/Q&A sections of XDA. If you get tired of people complaining about your new device, you have to ignore them. You say they're everywhere, so they're probably not leaving anytime soon.
You have a strong point, it's a great phone. And the performance is really nice. Let's just agree to wait for some updates. I remember they improved the S3 and S4 so much within just a few months, and the S6 should be no different.
Take care.
I don't yet own the device. I'll have mine next week. But I will say that in general Samsung has been losing ground. The S6 is honestly the last hope for Samsung (basically the Android iPhone now imo).
I've been a Samsung fanboy for years, but they really need to go back to basics. They make phones that try too hard, push the envelope too much. Almost every Samsung release has come with major bugs. And the lack of developer attention from Samsung is truly saddening. They've pioneered so much technology it amazes me that they can't understand that most people want very simple things from their phone.
I come from a sales background and customers want A better battery life, B less glitches/bugs and C more simplicity.
Also, they need to fire their entire QA department. The bugs I've experienced on Samsung devices is embarrassing. Things need to be seamless and reliable. That's what people want.

Samsung should be ashamed.

They hyped up the new touchwiz to be less bloated and faster. Yeah. OK.
Reboot your phone. All the bloat is in the ram and it shows. It's embarrassingly ridonkulous. I bet battery life would improve close to an hour of SOT over a day's worth of use IF IT WASN'T USING CPU ALL THE TIME TO RELOAD APPS AND REARRANGE BLOAT.
I am disgusted by you Samsung. 3GB of RAM. 3GB!!! Sad to say but I think the note 5 isn't even on my radar. You took removable batteries and expandable storage away from us. Not to mention multi tasking. And you didnt fix it with the 5.1.1 update. Not even close. Worst $700 I spent.
Ok cool...do you feel better now?

I agree with the whole memory thing. It seems Touchwiz is still pretty bloated. Went into running process and showing all the cached ones the phone is using like 2 GB running hardly anything but Touchwiz and a few apps. Even with this issue its amazing that this phone is still far and away the best atm.

I'm sure you've noticed, the dev scene is gone. Just like ios got a lot of features from the jailbreak tweaks, Android has gotten a lot of features from rooted roms. Honestly, what do you need a custom rom for nowadays? Unlimited hotspot? That's really the only feature left for them to make standard.
And don't say it's because you want a vanilla phone. If you want vanilla, don't buy an S6. Buy a nexus. The CM Team has all but dissolved.

I wouldn't say they are all for nothing. The performance on the phone is the smoothest and fastest I ever had on any phone. The battery life for a device with its battery size and screen resolution is very good as well. The only bone I have to pick is just the memory management. I wonder how the international releases of 5.1.1. will be. I'm not expecting anything really different but you never know. I'm still enjoying the experience of this phone and even if I wanted to get rid of it there isn't anything out there at the moment that I would rather have.
I thought this site was XDA-Developers not XDA-CryBabies ???
Seriously, why are you whining? Go exchange the phone it's that simple. I for one and loving my S6 and would never even dare to put wackkk CM on here to ruin the amazing camera. Go buy a 1+1 if ya want CM......

Smoothest and fastest on any phone? Let me introduce you to 5.1.1 on my nexus 5 and HTC one m8gpe. Nexus 5 is about same in performance, HTC one m8 is noticeably quicker but neither have memory management problems with 32bit CPU and 2/3GB of RAM.
Not only did Samsung drop the ball but they lied about less bloat and just hid it in the RAM. My note4 isnt as smooth but it sure as hell manages memory a lot better and there is room for improvement at that. Many of us feel burned at the potential wasted at the expense of Samsung's poor coding, selfishness and lies.

Essentially, what I'm reading is that you bought an S6, to not have an S6. The Nexus 6 may not have a 64-bit processor, but it is one of the smoothest running phones in existence. If it's that important to you, learn to build your own ROM. Be the dev you want to see. If it's not that important to you, don't complain about the phone you purchased. You could've waited for the next stock andrid phone.

@Slicktune you bought the wrong phone. You've been *****ing about CM since a few days after the S6 dropped. We'll be lucky if we see CM before the end of the year, realistically. I'd say there's a 70% chance we'll never see it. So, either suck it up and deal with TW or bounce to the next device.

Apps reloading with 1.1GB of free ram?

Why is my wife's at&t S6 closing apps in the background with 1.1GB of free ram available? Her sisters iPhone 6+ is better at keeping apps open. Are there that many Samsung apologists out there that Samsung can get away with this? My S5 runs circles around her S6 when it comes to switching between apps quickly without having to wait for the browser or anything else to re-load.
I think it's a bug and even if there is a fix pushed by Samsung, shiitty att keeps from releasing it because they have to make sure their crap Value Wares are compatible with the new updates. I regret getting an att version. If it wasn't for the citi att access card promo, I'd went for the international or north american unlocked version.
Oh, and of course Samsung should have sorted it out before releasing the software. I tried moto e 2nd gen and really love how fluid the stock launcher is.
Not a fair comparison though. You're trying to compare a new, app-empty phone with one that presumably has a bunch of apps installed.
Op, if the phone runs smoothly, seems as though the memory manager is doing its job. If not, try to isolate the app that causes the problem. AoN

You're not crazy, it's crap. It reloads apps after about 20 seconds.
Absolutely horrible. I'm going Moto X Style to get away from this thing. No excuse for performance.

At least these phones no longer take second to unlock or open the dialer. Probably the hardware can now overcome the stupid touchwiz crap.
In the past, all galaxy note phones I had had horrible stutter when unlocking or opening there dialer. ATT Note 3 was my last phone, and hated it.
On my Moto E, I have all the software installed as I used it for about a week as daily driver. It is smooth with snapdragon 410 and only slows down on CPU intensive tasks.
Yeah, it's terrible. Samsung has configured the inactive process killer to be extremely agressive.
I also had noticed a LOT of lag. Just trying to reply to a text message was an exercise in frustration as the keyboard would take up to a minute to respond to swiping or typing. I haven't seen it since I reverted to stock OCE and went through the update process (OE2, OF3, OF4), but I only did that yesterday so it remains to be seen if the sluggishness will come back.

Stock Android Experience

Hello, just wondering what I can do to get my snapdragon note as close to stock android as possible. I've changed the launcher, but I'm not aware of many other things to do to the phone - there aren't a huge amount of custom ROMs available yet, and changing the skin only goes so far. Is there anything I can do to essentially remove touchwiz and move away from samsung's UI?
You bought a Samsung phone, now you want a stock android experience... Buy a Google pixel !
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs
if Samsung had done the hardware for a pixel phone, that would have been an easy buy - I'd just rather have a phone with basically no hardware drawbacks and hope I can change the software rather than have some things I dislike that I can't change. It'd be wonderful to own both phones but each's price tag makes having both a bit difficult

It's not bad software and it's not missing anything - I just prefer the look and feel of the stock Android software without any non-changeable skin. Samsung did a lot of things right with TouchWiz, but I just prefer the look of Google's android without just feeling bloated by a lot of Samsung apps just sitting around without use (there's no noticeable lag, I might just be a purist). While not a big issue, I absolutely hate the font experience, given that there's no way to get something like Roboto and Product Sans onto this thing.
There are ways through theming and porting apps but personally, after doing that, I missed the Samsung experience and went back.

Ignore everyone saying 'why didn't you buy a Pixel'...silly and unhelpful comments that completely miss the point of your question lol... I understand why you would prefer the Note 8 hardware . So ignore the kiddie responses and instead refer to this guide which gives a pretty good outline of what you are looking for: https://www.howtogeek.com/258120/how-to-make-the-samsung-galaxy-s7-feel-more-like-stock-android/
If you want a stock experience you should take your phone back and get a pixel or something else but hey what do I know
Stock is missing many useful features.
It's bland and boring.
It has been very slowly stealing other OEM good ideas so it's a little better than a few years ago but I still can't use it on my main phone.
Tablet I rarely use is fine.
BK Disabler, and Pixel launcher.
