Huawei Honor 4x Che2-L11 Q&A - Honor 4x Questions & Answers

Please note: This thread is specific to the Che2-L11 model Honor 4xFor discussion pertaining to the Che1-L04 model click here.
Because there are some significant differences between the Honor 4x variants information can get confusing quite easily, therefore I decided to start a thread dedicated to the Che2-L11.
:good: Any information or discussion is welcome as long as it is about this particular model.
:fingers-crossed: Since the device is still relatively fresh, information is scarce. I will try to update and expand this post as we discover the possibilities of our shiny new phone.
Rooting the Che2-L11
There are currently no known tools or exploits that can be used to gain root under the stock firmware. Unlocking the bootloader will allow full access to the device, however at this time there are no known working custom recoveries or roms.
The official Huawei unlock page doesn't support it as of yet, neither by editing the product model information on that page like it works for some other models. Instead you can send an e-mail to [email protected] and provide the same information as requested on the unlock page.
Once you obtain the correct unlock code you can follow the unlocking procedure. Be careful when experimenting with recoveries or roms intended for other or similar models, they may brick or damage your device.
SD Cards >32GB
Although not officially supported, 64GB cards seem to work fine. The phone will recognise and use their full capacity automatically. It will most likely support 128GB cards as well but this is not yet confirmed.
Model numbers
The Honor 4x is being sold under several different model numbers divided into two basic groups: Che1 and Che2. Che stands for Cherry.
Che1 is based on the Snapdragon 410 chipset: Che1-CL10 (China/Telecom), Che1-CL20 (China/Netcom), Che1-L04 (India/Flipkart) and Che1-UL00.
Che2 is based on the Kirin 620 chipset: Che2-L11 (Europe), Che2-L12, Che2-L23, Che2-TL00, Che2-TL00H, Che2-TL00M and Che2-UL00.

I must have been doing something wrong then, although I did use [email protected] instead. Will try again with that address.
Have you tried any custom recoveries yet?

The reply also came from [email protected] so that must be the correct address. Just quickly tried the CWM made for Che2-TL00. It did boot once, but backup job crashed the phone and the recovery didn't boot anymore. Just flashed the stock recovery back
Have to try again this evening when I have more time.

Here's a link to the Che2-TL00 CWM recovery I used. I replaced the stock recovery in the zip-file with the Che2-L11 stock recovery. So this can be also used to bring the recovery back to stock.

I was able to flash SuperSU with it and now the device is rooted

so many different versions, support is going to be a nightmare...

tried [email protected] and [email protected] and did not receive a reply yet, it has been 2 days =( shame, really want to try new stuff on this phone, it was going to be my side project to try and port CM12 to my 4X CHE2-UL00, buy with a locked bootloader nothing I can do =(
Any other ideas where can I unlock my bootloader?

Finally replied, let the fun begin =)

Lollipop Update
I've asked Honor Europe about the lollipop update (5.x) for the Che2-L11. Here's the answer:
Thank yo for your message, It is not yet been planned for Q2, however we are working on the update to launch it soon. Stay tuned for more information. Honor Europe
So, we have to wait Q3 or Q4(!?).... maybe they update directly to 5.1?
BTW: Really need a root to install Link2SD. This would solve the (small) 8gb storage problem. Someone tried oneclick and other root tools to root the Honor 4x?

I just bought the phone not longer, I also want to root the phone.
Can you guys help me how to root the phone? Thanks!

Did you notice that you can change the preferred storage location to sdcard?
I have >3GB of apps installed and still over 1GB free internal storage. I can say I am a heavy user of different apps, and with a decent sd card (Samsung Pro U1 32GB), I have no problems to manage with the 4X, if compared to my other phones.

Unlock bootloader for Honor 4X (Che2-L11)
a) Request your bootloader unlock code from huawei by sending email to [email protected]
Provide following info
Mobile Model: Honor 4X Che2-L11
MEID/IMEI:
S/N:
Product ID:
(to get your product id, enter *#*#1357946#*#*. An 8-digit ID is then displayed)
Patiently wait for 2-3 days, you will received 16-digit number from the return email
b)Download the following files:
i) Adb fastboot tools + ClockworkMod Recovery for Honor 4x + Honor 4x (che2-L11) original recovery:
Note: Get the file from post #10
ii) SuperSU by chainfire : UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.14.zip
iii) Connect honor 4x to your pc and install HiSuite
c)Preparing the phone
-Enable ‘Developer options’ (Settings > About phone > tap on ‘Build number’ until it’s enabled)
-Go to ‘Developer options’ and enable ‘USB debugging’
-Connect Honor 4x to PC (with HiSuite successfully connected)
-Extract zip file downloaded from b) i) to a folder (e.g. adbtools)
-Run cmd to get into command prompt from PC and change directory to adbtools
-On the Command Prompt window type ‘adb devices’, and it will list down device serial number, with a word device following behind.
-Type ‘adb reboot bootloader’ to kick the phone into Fastboot mode. You will see that your phone boot into a white screen with android robot with the words 'Phone Locked' (in blue)
-Type ‘fastboot oem unlock unlockingpassword’, where ‘unlockingpassword’ is the 16-digit number you’ve obtained earlier
-If successful, the phone’s screen will now show ‘PHONE Unlocked’ in red
-Reboot the phone to make sure everything runs ok.
Flashing custom recovery for Honor 4X (Che2-L11)
To root your phone, you need to flash a custom recovery to it.
-Same as earlier step, run cmd to get into command prompt from PC and change directory to adbtools
-Type ‘adb devices’ to make sure that your phone is properly connected.
-Type ‘adb reboot bootloader’ to kick the phone into Fastboot mode.
-Type 'fastboot flash recovery cofface_recovery_che2tl00h.img' (for Kitkat android 4.4)
-If successful, you’ll get a ‘finished’ confirmation with the time it took to complete the process.
-To confirm a successful flash, power down your phone. Then go Recovery mode (stock or CWM): Press volume up + power buttons
-In case you need to turn back to stock recovery, repeat the above steps, Type 'fastboot flash recovery recovery_offical.img' instead and reboot to your original stock recovery.
Rooting Honor 4X (Che2-L11) for KitKat Android 4.4
-Download Chainfire’s SuperSU ZIP file into the phone’s SD card
-Boot the device into Recovery mode
-Navigate into the ‘install zip from sdcard’ option,
-Find the downloaded SuperSU ZIP file, and flash it.
-Once done, reboot the Honor 4x and launch the SuperSU app, install the binaries, and reboot the phone again.
-Congratulations, your device is now rooted.
Rooting Honor 4X (Che2-L11) for Marshmallow Android 6
-Download recovery file 4C Root+TWRP by [email protected]
Note: we are using TWRP for Honor 4C
- Extract and flash recovery as same step above using this new recovery img fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
- Download this file and copy to honor4x folder
- Download supersu zip and copy to honor4x folder
- Go in TWRP recovery. Do not swipe allow modifications and choose read only for system files...... and then flash that zip file named 1.zip.
- After its done, restart your phone and if it prompt to install su, ignore it....
- Open supersu app installed in your phone and let it update its binaries...when done, reboot to recovery again and this time flash BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
- Reboot your phone.
- Now you have successfully rooted Marshmallow
- Reference: [ROOT][MARSHMALLOW][HONOR 4C]
Final words, do this on your own risks as it voids the phone warranty.

Thanks!! Now waiting the unlock bootloader password.

Just a heads up. Like mentioned before, I never received a reply from [email protected], but from [email protected] I received a reply within an hour after sending the request.

I ask the code last night. I received this morning. My Honor 4X is rooted, thank you! :good:

With the announcement of Android M coming to Zenfone 2 series, I am rather disinclined to root now. Is there a way to un-root and regain the ability to do FOTA updates? Or is there a way to update to Android M when it is released?
1.16.40.1020
Is this root method compatible for the update 1.16.40.1020 ?
Is this compatible with 1.16.40.1020?

Hello Nirano,
how can I "Open ADB command in window command prompt and type in following"
thank you
Download ADB Fastboot tools from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790 and download USB driver from Asus site. Install the ADB Fastboot tool in window. Install USB driver.
In Window File Explorer, select ADB folder and on right column blank area, right click + Shift to select "Open command window here" a command prompt window will appear

Couldn't agree more. We should be able eradicate the ASUS bloatware, plus the Cheetah Mobile and Trend Micro bloatware, installed with the default ROM, without losing our bloody warranty! After all, this phone is sold in part on the merits of it's unlocked feature. They don't state that it's an "unlock, kill warranty" feature!
Bastards!
just a quick question, i tried to unlock my device (ze601kl) it pops out and show me " An unknown error occurs, which may be a network connection issue ", i tried to surf google for it, it mostly happen for Asus Pad but no results of ZE601KL.. my build : WW_1.16.40.1338 , Asus_Z011D with android version 5.0.2. i think exactly same with Nirano.. please help
Edit : must i update to latest firmware? or i could just use unlocker as long as above 1.15.xx.xxx ?
Rajlko, it doesn´t work on ASUS Zenfone ZE601Kl with marshmallow.
How can I root my ze601KL with WW-21.40.1220.1698 marshmallow????
Thanks in advanced.
@rajlko
Why does the link after "update your firmware to the latest version," reference
ZE550KL (a Z00L device)
instead of
ZE601KL (a Z00T device)
?
Is this a mistake or is the 'secret' to rooting the ZE601KL include installing the 'wrong' firmware?
Thank you.
Doesn't work on my Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE601KL (model Z011D) with Android 6.01 Marshmallow and the latest firmware WW-21.40.1220.1998. Instead, now when I try to turn on the phone in fastboot mode it freezes and I have to take out the battery to take it back to normal. Not a single root apk works either. Any help?

Tutorial: Root LeEco S3

After seeing people not being able to root their S3 and rooting mine successfully, I have decided to make this tutorial to help those out there. This tutorial covers the procedures I took to successfully root my LeEco S3 US edition with EUI 5.8.018S and Snapdragon 652 processor. My phone is permantly rooted and has permanent TWRP recovery.
Make sure your phone has developer options and has usb debugging as well as the option to unlock the bootloader enabled
First off, download the AIO Toolkit created by Rishabh Rao here
Secondly, open the toolkit. Make sure to turn off your antivirus to avoid any interruptions. Once in the toolkit, select item 6 and allow the program to download necessary files. After the files have downloaded, select item 1 to install ADB/Fastboot USB drivers. During this process, PDA Net will prompt you to connect your phone to the computer. It will download the client onto your computer and install the PDA Net application onto your phone. When the drivers are fully installed, close the toolkit.
Open command prompt and run ADB. With your phone plugged in and in recovery mode, type fastboot oem unlock-go and you should see it attempting to unlock the bootloader. If you get a successful message of unlocking your bootloader, you are ready to move on to the next step as this is a temporary unlock. Close the command prompt.
Open the toolkit again, select item 6 and then select item 3 to unlock bootloader completely. When it has finished, go back to select item 4 to check and see if the bootloader has been unlocked. If so, move on to selecting item 5 to flash the latest TWRP recovery.
When the TWRP recovery has installed, if it has not booted into recovery by itself, hold down power + volume up to enter it. You will see the recovery all in the chinese language. Simply swipe the unlock to proceed and from the menu, select the box to the right and three down (which is settings). There, select the globe icon and scroll down to select the english language. Now that you can read what is there, go back to the main menu and select wipe to completely wipe the phone back to factory defaults. When it has finished, go back and select Advanced > Tools > Root Device. Your phone will now be rooted when you reboot and will have the latest TWRP recovery installed.
- If you receive the error message saying the device is locked while you are trying to unlock the bootloader from the toolkit, you need to run ADB again to temporary unlock the bootloader.
Quick question - will this only work on 18s and is it possible to update the firmware and keep root after doing this? Or would it work after updating to I think 21s which is the latest?
Thank you!
Hi
Can you break this down further with pictures too? How do I do the command prompt ABD thing?
Root
was this the easiest way? I'm going to try it in two days. Scared to mess my phone up though..
This method does not work on the 23s ROM. Does nothing
What's the best way? Simple way I mean?
Worked for anyone?
these instructions are for the le s3 with SNAPDRAGON processor, not for the MEDIATEK x20 that is where we have the problem
Just got this phone and gonna try this out, thanks ;p

Issue with P9 after rooting - possible brick?

Hey guys,
This is a bit of a long one so please bear with me...
I have an EU EVA-L09 which was running EVA-L09C432B166 unrooted and with a locked bootloader. I decided to unlock it which I did successfully (Fastboot was showing both Phone & FRP as unlocked) and flashed TWRP on to it as well as BETA-SuperSU-v2.65.
After a few days with my stock email app not working and Battery Settings unaccessable since rooting (not to mention the warning message every time I booted my phone) I decided it wasn't worth it and wanted to remove it all and go back to stock. I was struggling to find a stock rom due to being impatient and just removed root via SuperSU app on my phone.
I found a stock recovery image which I tried to flash on to the phone using the BAT file (PASO 3 VOLVER A RECOVERY STOCK) which didn't seem to work. I also tried to do it via cmd line and was faced with "FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)." I also noticed that FRP was showing as locked now in fastboot. I did unlock it using DC Unlocker but it's still displaying as locked (after some research on the forum this seems normal.)
I tried to update to Nougat 7.0 by Wiping in TWRP and then installing Update.zip from another thread on this forum. This worked great but stupidly I forgot to install the EU pack zip which accompanied it before rebooting. Unfortunately this has now installed a limited version of Nougat on to the phone whilst simultaneously removing TWRP so I can't install the other zip.
I have tried to install the other zip and some old firmware using dload method but I always get stuck on 5%. I have also tried flashing TWRP again but I am facing the same , ""FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)" error. The error is also displayed when I try to re-lock the bootloader. The bootloader is definitely unlocked as I have checked with cmd line & the warning message is still being displayed on booting up. I have USB debugging enabled but am unable to enable OEM Unlock due to the option being greyed out (seems to be the case when FRP is unlocked.)
I can't do any updates using 3 button technique they all get stuck on 5%. I can't submit any flash commands in cmd.exe without getting the "command not allowed error."
There is a bit of hope because I can boot in to Nougat but it's very limited with no apps and no keyboard.
Can anybody help?

Hey @jcalderonv74 thank you for the response. I have just re-tried to do that on your suggestion and with the intermediate UPDATE.app in the dload folder on my external SD I get to the stage of the 3 button start up as per the instructions and Installing Update gets stuck on 5%.
I have noticed I do have access to stock recovery using "adb reboot recovery" command.
Any more ideas?

Hi, yeah I did use the rollback package @xtcislove and it would just get stuck on 5% using the dload method, and trying to flash it in command line would result in "Command not allowed".

Ok just for completion and anybody who is having the same issues as I have had with the same or similar model of P9, this is how I solved it (after a day without sleep and a couple of migraines). Please note this is only to be used if you have exhausted all other, free options on this forum as this is slightly risky and costs money. It's a last resort.
What you'll need:
- HiSuite installed but closed on your PC
- USB cable to connect phone to PC
- DC-Phoenix with an account with 15 credits (15 Euro)
- The DC-Phoenix guide opened at "Method 2"
- Firmware .img file from their database by clicking "Enter Support Area" button in DC-Phoenix (EVA-AL10_M00A056_Factory_firmware_Global_Nonspecific_Android_6.0_EMUI_4.1.dgtks)
- Stock firmware as an .app file on an SDCard in a folder named "dload" (I used EVA-L09C432B182 (UPDATE.APP))
Method:
1. Copy the official stock firmware .app file to your SDCard inside a folder named "dload".
2. Remove SDCard & Sim Card from the phone.
3. Put your phone in to Fastboot (Turn off phone, hold volume(down), insert usb cable).
4. Load DC-Phoenix and select Fastboot mode.
5. Click "IMG Files" tab and locate the .dgtks file using the "Config or recovery file:" field.
6. DO NOT uncheck the boxes next to "Not erase NV" and "Not erase oeminfo" as this will delete your IMEI and other information completely.
7. Click UPDATE and wait for it to fully finish (you may see an error regarding FBlocks but it should still go on to complete).
8. Once you see it is completed, disconnect phone from PC and restart the phone by holding the power button.
9. This should load you in to a very basic firmware (it may take one or two reboots to achieve this).
10. Insert your SDCard with the newer, official, stock firmware that you want on the phone in to the SDCard slot WITHOUT SimCard.
11. On your phone home you should see an icon named "Upgrade" or "Upgrade/Update Phone" on the first page. (I've forgotten the exact name of the icon but it will be obvious to you).
12. Click that icon and it should go ahead and install the firmware .app on to the phone off your SDCard.
After following the on screen instructions you should now be back to stock firmware. I recommend re-locking your bootloader now using fastboot and your unlock key if you are trying to do so. If you go on to update to Nougat 7.0 before locking your bootloader back up you won't be able to do so without downgrading back to the same firmware that was on your phone when you originally unlocked it.)
Hope this helps somebody who is stuck and exhausted every other avenue with nothing left to lose.
Danny
I had a similar issue after doing this :- unlock bootloader...root MM....Upgrade to Nougat...root...Rollback to MM...root...Upgrade to Nougat.. borked!!!
I was left with a phone that only booted to bootloader and no recovery or possibility of flashing with dload worked.
Luckily DC Phoenix got it into a usable state where i could enter erecovery and flash Nougat again. Seems the backdoor method they use to load the OS, at least at a low level, is very effective!
There's probably a lesson here, but I've never had a phone so easily bricked....
Thanks :good:
Peace

Dear DCStreamer,
I tried to follow your procedures with my Huawei tablet but don't work: where I wrong?

[GUIDE] Downgrading Huawei P Smart, Unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP

Downgrading Huawei P Smart, Unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP
Hello! In this tutorial i will show how you can, downgrade you phone, installing TWRP + root!
Why you need downgrade? You need to downgrade security patch to read bootloader unlock code.
Lets start!
Note: This method will cost 4euro/dollar. You need buy 4 credits to DC unlocker. Just google for it.
Note 2: Backup your important files. You need reset your phone twice.
Note 3: Im not resposible if you success to brick your phone. I can always help, if you have Discord you can contact ScaryG#8540/B] or just ask in comments
Note 4: Twrp wont work with custom roms :/
Also if something missing from tutorial, please tell down. I will fix them as soon as possible:good:
Part 1. Downgrading
You need 16 GB SD card. First format it to extFat. Then download firmware from androidhost.ru, i used FIG-LX1 8.0.0.128A(C432) Download it. ( Links below! ) Then find dload folder from zip and extract into SD card (Remember to format SD Card into extFat)
Wait until it extracts. Now put your SD Card into your phone. Call *#*#2846579#*#*, locate for software upgrade and press SDCard Upgrade button. Now your phone is installing the update. Wait until installs. After install, you should get bootloop. In this part Press Volume UP + Power button, go to recovery and do factory reset. Now wait until boots. Go to settings -> about, and you should see version (128A). Boom! You have done downgrade...
Part 2. Unlocking Bootloader
Okay. Now get DC Unlocker ready, select auto detect Huawei Phones. Now go to again call to *#*#2846579#*#* and enable manufacturer mode. Try auto detect. It should detect your phone. Now simply, press the Unlock button. You should get your bootloader code, take it up. Enable developer options on your phone, go to USB Debugging and turn it on, also turn OEM Unlocking on. Then open cmd and type cd (same path as dc unlocker folder). Type adb devices It should start ADB daemon. Check your phone, you should get ADB trust popup, Allow it! Then check again adb devices, your device should be there. Now type adb reboot bootloader After it type: fastboot oem unlock (your key) ex. fastboot oem unlock 12345678. Check your phone, and press yes. Yeet! Your bootloader is now unlocked! Type fastboot reboot to reboot! Now goes kinda easy part!
Part 3. Installing TWRP
Download TWRP for Huawei P Smart. I put links below.
Move file to same folder as DC Unlocker and rename it to recovery.img
Anyways, your phone should be resetted again...
Go again enable developer options + enabling USB Debugging. Then again confirm...
Now do again adb reboot bootloader now type fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery.img Now it should be flashed. Get into TWRP by pressing Power button and Volume up. Now you can root and flash zips!
Thats it, i hope it helped :good:

Hi ! Hope you saved the unlock code somewhere
If yes, you can upgrade any way you want. Just redo 'fastboot oem unlock xxxxx' after successful upgrade. (Worked for me on EMUI 9.0.1.115)
It will unlock and wipe again..
As for me, this is the point I'm stuck at :
- latest EMUI FIG-LX1 9.0.1.120 (C432)
- bootloader unlocked
- can flash twrp, allow it to prevent being overriden, then flash Magisk 19.3 without error in the log.
After that, phone boots ok but Magisk Manager says 'not installed' and TWRP must be reflashed again.
Anyone can help further ? I've read about patched boot images to be flashed with fastboot. Are they just Magisk patched or some additional security level hacking required ?
Thanks XDA
Hi.
Just FYI, afters hours, I managed to finish the procedure and restore full root/magisk under latest EMUI 9.1.0.120 (E)
I had to use magisk uninstaller under TWRP, then reflashed Magisk 19.3
Now everything sticks :
- TWRP 3.2.0_1
- Root access
- Magisk is detected as installed and running
I mainly use "systemless hosts" with Adaway and it's OK.
Did not test any other module yet.

Just unlock bootloader with same way on emui 9.
Hey there! I've tried downgrading but i instantly get the message "Software install failed." before it even starts to install. Any ideas?
Can't downgrade from android 9.1, everytime said Software install failed
Thanks for the tutorial. I was able to install the older EMUI 8.0 version and unlock the bootloader of a FIG-LX1 (C432). Two tips:
I was able to use a uSD formatted in FAT32, I did not need to format it again using ExtFAT
When using the DC Huawei Bootloader Codes app from PlayStore to buy the credits, select Android 7 to get charged for just 4 credits, otherwise it will try to charge for a 3-day license
Make sure the phone has 8.0.0.128A or older, and DC Unlocker 2 recognizes the phone properly before buying anything (if it is not the correct version, it will tell you to use the test/probe point method)

I can only thank you hugely for this clear concise instruction. Well worth £3.41 to DC Unlocker developers! Finally an unlocked bootloader on my wifes phone. I'm a definite Xiaomi phone fan compared to the ridiculous hoops Huawei make people go thru with their locked down phones. Gave up with Samsung years back too for the same reason. Cheers
Hello , I have model FIG LX1 and I want to flash roms. I need to follow this guide ?

Huawei P9 - Failed TWRP attempt

Hello friends, I'm Berat, living in Istanbul, Turkey.
I tried to install TWRP on my device (HUAWEI P9) for root yesterday. I couldn't go further from the Fastboot - ADB method. Although I do one-to-one with source videos from Youtube, I have encountered error messages. The phone is running like stable but I have a few problems with my phone.
1- I want to complete root if i can do that.
2- OEM Unlocking is unclickable now and this is disable now, and of course it can't be changed. :victory:
3- I wanted to go back to the original version but it doesn't work either, OEM Unlocking is same; unclickable. I did enter the Fastboot menu and i saw the last status: Phone - Unlocked / FRP - Locked
How should I proceed? Which one is the easier, ROOT or the original version?
Thank you!

- Which stock Android do you have, Marshmallow, Nougat or Oreo
- Which TWRP are you flashing
EMUI versions are different, each has different organization of partitions (names and sizes, different encryption types).
You must use different port of TWRP for different version of stock Android.
Wrong TWRP may not work or may even cause a brick
For Nougat, instructions are in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=71244945
but a little bit newer version of TWRP for Nougat is in the post #1 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rom-huawei-p9-magicrainbow-v4-t3759292

For disabled and grayed out OEM Unlocking:
Boot to eRecovery (switch off, connect to charger, press and keep pressing Vol+, press Power).
From eRecovery, choose Download and Install latest firmware and recovery.
Upon installation (before booting to System), choose Factory reset and Clear Cache
You will need to enable again Developer options and OEM unlock (it should not be gray anymore).
If Bootloader will be locked, unlock with the same, previous code
