[Q] Difference between "reset" and "force shutdown"? - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read of two ways to get a Z3C to shut down when it is otherwise unresponsive. One is to press the yellow "reset" button inside the nano SIM cover. The other is to press and hold the Power and Vol Up buttons together for ~5 seconds.
Is there any difference in the result between these two ways of forcing the phone to shut down, or do they both achieve exactly the same thing? (In which case, why have both?)

For me - the power + vol button method just turns the phone off immediately. The yellow reset button reboots the phone.

is there something wrong why mine won't go to bootloader.
I have tried all combinations of volume (up and down) (holding it in) (after soft reset) (believe it even after hard reset then HSPL) holding the power (RED button on the further most botom left side of the phone) at the same time for up to a minute... all it does is go to the normal power off options. what else should i do...

With power off, hold the down volume button and end key until it starts up in the bootloader screen.

[Q] No Download Mode

I have an i9000 international, and I recently (attempted) to flash Darky's Rom 10 RC6, after flashing it in Odin, my phone started booting. All is fine until after 'S' logo screen. I've tried to get it into download mode frantically, but nothing is working. The 3 button press, not working. I've tried other methods, like removing the battery and plugging it into your computer, then volume buttons, but nothing...
Please help
Are you holding the Vol down + Home + Power buttons together long enough ?
Yeah, I've tried holding them down until the splash screen goes away. Just regularly boots, and then stop holding down power button when the splash screen is up. No luck. I think I might have to just jig it.
It can be tricky, in mine you first have to press home, then on+down, but in order that on goes before down...all other combinations at least in my I9000 won't work, and if it fails, remove the battery put back and try again.

You shouldn't even be seeing the splash screen.
What works for me everytime, is doing it in this order:
Press & hold down the vol-down button & home button, then (while still holding down those 2 buttons), press & hold the power button. You should be in Download mode in like 1 to 2 second. When you see the Download mode, let go of all 3 buttons.

[Q] Is a "Hard reset" the same as a power cycle?

My Z1 will not work properly with my Garmin GPS. I need the GPS to manage calls when on a motorcycle. I really don't want to re-build my phone unless completely necessary (and especially not if there is an inherent compatibiliy issue!). So, I was wondering whether the hard reset using the "hidden" button was the same as powering off and on. If it's a deeper process, I'll give it a go and see whether my issues are resolved.
Thanks
No, it justs turns the power off

Red button and power botton is not the same.
1. Red button doesn't properly shut down your phone (umount filesystems, wait for application finished correctly etc)
2. Red button make "deeper" shutdown. I find it when trying to fix problem with charging. No power button or power+vol combination helps, only red button do.
It seems like you cut off power cable on your computer, when red button pressed

Random Boot Maintenance Screen Popping up

Brand New VZW Note 5. Couple of times a day, my Boot Maintenance screen shows up. Not sure why this is happening. I have to use the volume button to toggle to the reboot normal choice and then select via the power button to escape from the Boot screen. I thought you had to access this by powering off and powering on by holding the volume up and power buttons together during restart. What gives? No idea how to stop this annoyance.
Let me guess...you have a case on it? It's the case. It's either pressing the power and volume buttons just enough or its the kickstand that you may possibly have on the case.

Key combination for when things go bad

Press menu + vol down + power.
Hold down all three buttons until the tablet reboots and the screen momentarily goes off, then after about one second the Samsung and Android logos appear in white.
Now we are at the point where the tablet screen has just gone dark. You have less than one second to:
1) If you release the power button now, the tablet simply reboots.
2) If you keep holding the buttons the tablet enters Download mode.
3) If you very quickly, VERY quickly, press VOL UP, while still holding down the power + menu, the tablet enters the recovery.
I have not found a way to switch it off other than entering recovery and then selecting reboot/power off.
Hard reset only is actually just hold POWER + VOL DOWN
