[Q] Missing battery usage - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since the update my battery usage only shows a couple things.. anyone else experiencing this?
Sceenshot attached.

Yes, that is how it works in LP. You will see more items in the list as time passes. It looks as if your phone was restarted shortly before that screen shot.

[Q] Suddenly Nexus battery drains quickly

Hello all.
I bought a Nexus One in at the beginning of the year. It's not rooted and I've had no problems from it till this month. I can not say the timing is exactly this, but it seems the battery issues started just after the FRG83D upgrade. I am accustomed to using my phone for most of the day before it needs to be charged. 12 hours or more with moderate use. Since around the FRG83D update my battery is about dead in around 4 or 5 hours. I haven't changed any settings or gotten any new apps or anything for quite some time.
For example, Friday night I charged my phone to 100% and then unplugged it (to plug in my girlfriends phone) and went to bed (about midnight). At 5:15am my alarm went off, i glanced at my phone and found the batter was at 10%!! the phone had been sitting there doing nothing all night with the screen off. I checked the battery use screen and it showed cell standby and AKMD taking up all the battery (55% and 35% respectively). I should mention that I have full signal where I am and have never had an issue. I cut off the screen rotate in the settings just in case that was part of it (AKMD being the gsensor i believe).
At next full charge that day i noticed the same problem, after being at 100% my battery was down to 10% after about 5 hours, almost the entire time I didn't use the phone. This time "display" was the largest percent by far (followed by cell standby), but clicking it showed only 15 minutes of use time for the display as I had purposefully not messed with the phone much.
Last night I had to be out and a bout so I decided to test things again. Charged full and cut airplane mode on. about 4 hours later my phone was down to 20ish percent, the only use of the phone being me looking at the charge level a couple times through the night.
I installed "spare parts" app and it shows my battery as being in good health and such but who knows how reliable that is.
Anyone else having similar issues? Any suggested remediation measures? I'm considering flashing the phone and reinstalling apps and such but would rather avoid that having never done that before and not having a desire to deal with setting everything back the way I have it.
Don't know if it matters but I run LauncherPRO and I do use the friends widget but it's never seemed to really cause battery issues before. I also run the news/weather widget, but again, no previous problems.
Any help would be great
Thanks!
In the spare parts app check partial wake usage. See if any apps are not letting your phone sleep.
nothing stands out other than UID 10073 which is handcent. currently my phone is charging but I'll pop it off the charger soon and watch the battery drop time again. I should note that inbetween all the tests so far i've rebooted the device so hanging apps of any kind should be killed off...
What ROM are you using?
Are you using Extended Controls? There is an issue with that and FRG83D. Uninstall it until the dev sorts it out.
yeah i am using extended controls. i'll take it off and see what happens.
Me too
I Have exactly the same issue, also have extended controls. Uninstalled and waiting to see if that works.
Cheers for the suggestion.
That did the trick! Loss like extended controls was the problem. A shame as i really like that app. Will hope they update and fix soon. Thanks!

Extended controls updated!
Yup, uninstalling fixed it for me too. Haven't seen the update though. I remember seeing an update yesterday, but I had this issue with that update so that did not fix it for me. Hope they update it again soon

I think it was updated again today. Now v5.03, and it seems to work properly.
So nobody saw Extended Controls showing up in Spare Parts, System Panel or other such programs?

Wakelocks and Massive battery drain!

Hi guys,
After updating from a March nightly to the latest Cyanogenmod nightly I've been experiencing the worst batterylife I have ever had!
I mean, seriously. Charge it up at night, place it by my bed and it's completely dead in the morning!
So it loses 100% battery overnight, with no usage whatsoever
I've tried beanstalk (Also Cyanogenmod based) and experienced the exact same issue. A full wipe and a brand new Cyanogenmod update and it's exactly the same.
I really can't return to stock as I'm making use of a lot of Cyanogenmods features.
The wakelocks are:
As reported by BetterBatteryStats:
Msm_hsic_host
And also a msm_camera wakelock poped up at the top of the list once.
Needless to say "Android OS" tops my battery usage screen with over 90% usage
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Anyone know a fix?
I'm basically without a phone right now

I've got the same issue here, but for me it's caused by Google services. At times my battery drains within 4 hours, even if I don't use the phone.
But at some times (most of the times) the phone just acts normal.
Before 4.3 I never had this problem, waiting for 4.4, hope that my problem will be gone. Else I'll just go back to 4.2
Aha! Success!
I have found the issue, I'll post it here if anyone else is having the same issue. Not sure if it'll help you though Dsteppa as your problem seems slightly different to mine
Although I would recommend "freezing" google maps as a starting point. See if that helps! Many android devices suffer from a similar problem, chances of it helping you is about 70%. If you're rooted it's relatively easy to do using apps from the playstore
Msm_hsic_host is used to "mount" the 3g modem as a usb device.. At least that's what I've gathered from various sources. Some phones have a kernel issue which stops the modem from being "unmounted" when data sending/receiving has been completely and thus drains the battery.
Turns out Msm_hsic_host was working as intended. It was actually an app which was apparently steaming data in real time, forcing the 3g modem to remain at full power and preventing the phone from sleeping. The unusual thing is that this app claimed it only consumed less than 3% and didn't even show on Better Battery Stats!
Uninstalling the app instantly solved my battery power issues! So for anyone experiencing similar issues, check for any apps which could be using "realtime" streaming; Such as third party Twitter / Facebook or even Email apps.
Hope this helps!

[Q] WTF is up with my battery life (Sprint m7)?

Hey guys:
Here's my latest problem. Have been using BadSeed's 4.4.3 ROM for my Sprint HTC One m7 for more than a month with no problems with battery life (in fact, my battery life was really great after switching over to the ROM with the custom kernel. However, I am now seeing terrible battery performance. With very little usage, the phone is dying within 8 hours. Here are some images for you to check out. Hoping I can get some advice on whether I have an actual battery issue or this is a software problem. I'm afraid it is an actual battery problem, but I also have noticed some pretty big drain on my battery in BatteryStatsPlus. I ran a battery test using HTC Function test a few days ago and it passed with flying colors while in airplane mode Dropped only 10 percent with the screen on for an hour, well above the 70 percent cut off. I just looked at my battery stats and notice the HTC Function Test is eating a lot of battery. The thing is, I haven't ran any function tests for at least 3 days. Why is that still showing up?
@clsA: Any idea?
Anywho. Two images are attached for your viewing pleasure!
OK. It looks like my phone isn't ever going into deep sleep mode.

No. Now the top two are showing up as Fused Location (59%) and Google Account Manager (33.3). Ive noticed lately the phone barely charges while screen is on. Under Wake Usage, it shows Google Account Manager as being responsible for 6hrs and 18 mins of wake usage.
In Wakelock Detector, Avast is showing x2804 as top CPU Wakelock item.
Uninstalled Avast and wakelock has stopped and entering deep sleep again. Will see if this resolves the issue.

yeah I'm not to keen on AV software
My understanding of AV software on Android is that it is only needed if you utilize custom roms. I installed AVG and it doesn't appear to be causing any issues.

Extreme battery issue

Hi all,
So I am having some issues with the battery life on this phone, but nothing was as unbearable as what happened last night. I left my phone at 53%, not charging, and I wake up this morning to find out it was completely drained and dead. I'm extremely upset and was wondering if anyone knows a solution to this awful battery life. Thanks
You've probably got an app that's causing a problem. If you know approximately when the problem started and can remember adding something new, or changing a setting, try undoing that change.
If not, try uninstalling user apps one by one. See what the phone does for a day or two. It's a slow process.
No one can help you without a battery graph screen shot. We don't know what your setup is either.

Battery life suddenly dropped and phone is always warm - How do I diagnose problem?

I searched and haven't found any battery life thread quite like the problem I am having.
I got my Nexus 6 new last September and until recently the battery has always lasted all day for me. I never looked at battery stats or tried to optimize because I never needed to. About a week ago, the battery started running out by 3PM every day. And the phone is always warm to the touch.
The only thing I can think of that changed was I noticed that my Google Contacts were not syncing properly and so I tried a bunch of stuff to get them syncing properly. I went through a checklist of stuff like wiping the contact apps data, deleting the google account and recreating, etc. I might have deleted and then installed the contact app, I'm not sure. I just tried a bunch of stuff until the contacts were syncing correctly. I don't think that is the cause - I mention it because it is the only change I can think of around the time the battery life degraded. I don't allow the play store to auto update apps, so other than something related to google contacts, there were no app version changes. I didn't change anything about how I use the phone.
I am running the ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-5-1lightromstock-lmy47e-03-19-2015-t3059493
which is, I believe, very close to stock. Since the May security patch level came out shortly after I started having battery life problems, I did a clean install of that version. I wiped system, cache, dalvik and data in TWRP before installing the new version. I've run that for a few days now and my battery life is still terrible and the phone is always warm.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem or how I can diagnose the problem? I've looked at the battery stats, but because I've never looked at them before, I have no idea what they are supposed to look like. The top item in the list is always "Android System" at 18 - 30% of the battery use.
is google play services eating a lot of the battery?
Or did you tried betterbatterystats? Or smth like that? So you can track in detail.

I haven't looked for it before. I don't see "google play services" in the list right now. The is "Google Services" and that has used 5% today.
Get screenshot of both graphs in settings.
1 - settings/battery
2- Tap on the battery graph from (1) to show another graph that has several horizontal bars below it.
2a -may give clues about weak phone signal, excess gps etc
2b - See if there are long periods when screen is off but device is awake...

your phone is constantly awake, not sleeping. AND you have both Bluetooth and WiFi turned on. you'll get terrible battery. one way to rectify it, kinda, is to turn your screen brightness down a lot. since your phone is constantly awake, that means your CPU is working doing something, is it by your choice?

I want bluetooth and wifi always on and I have never had to turn them off to conserve battery before.
It sounds like the problem is the phone is awake all the time. Now how do I find out why?

you can use something like wakelock detector(app) to find if you have any unusual wakelocks.
I agree, it is abnormal for the phone to be awake the whole time from 9am-2pm including long periods when screen was off. The at 2pm (slgithly after you started charging), those wakelocks stopped and remained stopped even after you want back off the charger. It might be a clue... any idea what might have changed just after 2pm (some program that you stopped or killed or setting that you changed)? At any rate I agree something like better battery stats is a valuable tool to help narrow down the cause of wakelocks although it's not always easy.
Another thing I notice is that your phone signal is very weak... red orange and yellow. (mine is mostly green with a little yellow). They put that on the battery screen because it certainly can affect battery life as you phone has to work harder just to find/keep its signal. Weak signal might possibly be related to the wakelocks although I'm not sure. Most likely phone signal is something you can't control or wouldn't change, unless you were in a different location or unless (longshot) it is related to your radio. You might try flashing stock radio if you have a different radio.

Thanks for your help. I can't remember if I did anything that could have changed the behavior around 2PM, but now that I know, I can keep an eye out for any similar change.
I have never looked at the battery stats before, so I don't know if that cell signal is how it has always been or something that has changed recently. I suspect it has always been like that because I usually see 0 or 1 bars on the status bar icon when I am at home. I have not changed radios, but I may try that after figuring out this problem.
It looks like I need to look at wavelocks to try to see what is keeping the phone awake. I'll investigate and report back with results and or further questions.
Just remembering you said it started after the May security patch.
I'm assuming you flashed it rather than OTA'd it.
Here is the recent history of factory images for Nexus 6
FEB: MMB29Q
MAR: MMB29V
APR: MMB29X, MOB30D
MAY: MMB30G, MOB30I
The MOB series introduced a new radio (the same new radio in MOB30D and MOB30I). I heard that the reason there are two imagesw in April and May is that not all carriers have tested/approved the new radio yet (those carriers - whoever they are - delivered OTA's to MMB29X and to MMB20G). I haven't heard any reports of problems from the new radio and I know it works fine for me on AT&T. Maybe if you came from something other than MOB30D before, and just changed to MOB30I in May, then it might be worth trying the radio from MMB30G instead (there shouldn't be any problem mixing/matching radios.. radio is independent of the rest of the image).
---------- Post added at 01:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:47 PM ----------
I just read you didn't change radio and you've always had a low signal. So, disregard my post above.
another thing - a standard troubleshooting suggestion (not related to anything in your post), try wiping cache in recovery.

It didn't start after the May security patch. It started a bit before and it started out of the blue. I did a clean install of the updated ROM with the may security patch. I was thinking the clean install of the ROM would fix it, but there was no change. One thing I didn't mention is that after installing the ROM, I restored system data and user apps and data with Titanium backup.

I am running the ROM here:

I haven't done anything to change the kernel - does the kernel come with the ROM?
I have installed Wavelock detector free and poked around with it. I've attached a screenshot. It looks like the problem is in something labeled *backup* in the android system. Now that I have this info I am off to google android backup wakelock and see if I can find out more.
The problem went away for a while again and I can't think of anything I did other than install the wavelock detector app. Then the problem returned again.

Thank you all for your help. I looked at the google backup settings and I had backup turned on, but there was no backup account set. I put in my google account as the backup account. So far the problem is gone. That doesn't prove the missing account was the cause, so if the problem comes back, I think that disabling backup entirely should "fix" it.
