[Q] Microsoft wireless display adapter not recognized... - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Switched to this Nexus 6 yesterday and everything was going swimmingly until I tried to connect to my Microsoft Wireless display adapter and the nexus 6/doesn't see it. Worked with my galaxy s5 just fine.. Even with 5.1 . So is this an issue with the Nexus 6 or am I doing something wrong?

The Microsoft Wireless display adapter uses Miracast technology. It is not supported by the Nexus 6. Go here to read more > http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/nexus-6-miracast-t2952461

thanks for the link. So ridiculous though.. it's always something! Thought the Nexus 6 would end my days of rooting and rom'ing and now I'm gonna have to F with what otherwise was a fantastic phone.

OMG! someone needs to make a video like this using the Nexus 4 as a desktop computer!

He is using a Galaxy Note in the video but it seems easy right?
- HDMI to a monitor
- Bluetooth mouse
- Bluetooth keyboard
Seems like an awesome idea to me. Use the Nexus 4 as your mobile device when your outside of the house and when you come back home and need a desktop to work on just plug in your Nexus 4 and start. Finally PC free. One device to rule them all :victory:
Anyone else going to try this with the Nexus 4 when it comes out? I know I sure want to but I'm not sure if the Nexus 4 works with bluetooth mice the same way the Galaxy Note does Galaxy Nexus users would probably know.
I can confirm that the Galaxy Nexus works with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I have used my phone as a "desktop computer" when I was on a vacation.

Thank you for letting me know! :good:
Makes me really happy to hear that. I don't really need PC programs so I love the idea of using a smartphone as my one and only computer :highfive:
The Nexus 4 uses Slimport HDMI, according to the specifications it allows HDMI output and USB-otg at the same time!! This means there will be docks with HDMI out and several USB-ports (at least I hope there will be).
So you can connect a monitor USB keyboards, mice and harddrives all at the same time!
Edit: I might have gotten a little too exited and misinterpreted the data sheet.
Simultanious HDMI output and USB-otg might not be possible after all.

cheers to hoping for the first device that has ubuntu for android and a dock
Embrace the future my friends, Google is far sited as well as near

I do the same atm with my one x, only problem I can see is the lack of mhl will make it more expensive

I'm expecting/hoping canonical will release ubuntu for android for the nexus 4
With miracast, charching orb and BT keyboard/mouse combo, you can do this totally wireless and cooler and pricy.
I would have thought a tablet would be better because of tablet-optimised apps. If you wanted to do office-type work, the tablet versions of office suites makes much better use of the screen real-estate.
You can achieve the same result with most 'modern' smartphones that support HDMI out. It's a neat little trick, I use it a lot with my tablet. I think someone above mentioned the tablet apps are better - and this is definitely true at my end. Far more suited to a telly.
So as this can be prescribed to pretty much any phone, I'll go ahead and close it here. Give it a shot though - definitely worth doing.
Just for curiosity's sake, Samsung have released a dock for the Note 2 to make the most out of this. Provides not only HDMI out, but also full-sized USB ports for peripherals and 3.5mm audio-out. I'm waiting for it to hit :good:
Closed!

Mice

Just incase no one has tried, I plugged a standard wireless mouse into a rooted otg and it worked straight away.
Swype'd at pace from my Galaxy S2
A Microsoft Comfort Mouse 3000 I have worked fine on my Nexus 7; and although I don't predict it'll have issues with a Nexus 10, I haven't tried it. I'll probably give it a try at some point though.

USB to HDMI - Slimport - Anyone checked

Hi guys and gals,
I stumbled upon this few minutes ago:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6499/...ix-slimport-microusb-to-hdmi-and-vga-adapters
It is written that Nexus 4 supports this. But, is it possible to get it working on a Nexus 7? Is there any additional hardware in the N4 that is needed to support this?
Thanks!

This is not possible with the nexus 7. The nexus 4 indeed has additional hardware to enable this feature that the 7 lacks.
The Nexus 7 doesn't have MHL support for this to be possible. The Nexus 4 on the other hand does so that's why it can be used. If I recall correctly the Nexus 7 can't put out any form of video to be broadcasted onto another screen/monitor/tv)

This is not MHL. The lack of MHL on the N7 is well-known. The slimport tech is quite new, and the info on anandthech left the impression that the tablets/phones implement it on a software level. Oh well, a man can dream. :silly:
You already have a thread that addresses this question?

Anyone try MirrorLink?

I'm considering getting this phone.
I have a Sony head unit quick supports MirrorLink. According to various press releases, this phone is supposed to support it, but I have heard mixed things about whether or not MirrorLink actually works.
Can anyone with a compatible car stereo please give it a try and let me know if/how MirrorLink works? It's the only thing keeping me from buying this phone.
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I've still yet to hear anything about MirrorLink working, but I did find someone who didn't get it working, with some kind of 'no mirrorlink compatible applications found' type of error.
I'm hoping someone who has a mirrorlink compatible head unit and a Note 4 can chime in on this!
Sorry to shamelessly bump, but it's the deciding factor for me.
Mirrorlink Error Galaxy Note 4 and AppRadio3
I hooked up my Note 4 with my AppRadio3 and it tells me i have no supported applications. The phone starts mirrorlink and tells me it is connected and the mirrorlink icon on the stereo appears, but when i press the button, it gives me the error and has a black screen. I am using the pioneer Mirrorlink USB cables.
Thanks for that. I actually bought one before reading your comment, tried it, experienced the same problem, and returned the phone. Otherwise, was a great phone.
Mirrorlink Error Galaxy Note 4 and AppRadio3
Called pioneer. Found out all the new phones. M8 and note 4 use mirrorlink 1.1 and pioneer uses 1.0. They don't know when they will upgrade to the new standard.

I have an M8 and it works with my XAV-601BT, which is very old and only supports MirrorLink 1.0, so I am sure that the M8 is ok, at least with my unit.
At least since you have an AppRadio, you can probably use ARUnchained or the like, but you'll have to go through rooting and finding a kernel with permissive SELinux.
Have tried connecting my Note4 to my Pioneer 6000NEX. I do get a connected screen on my phone, but a blank screen on the deck itself. I hope they fix this soon. Appradio with the MHL connector works perfectly tho, BTW.
Pioneer no plans to update flash on current radios
I spoke with Pioneer today as my 4600BH is not working with mirrorlink and Note 4.
Pioneer rep told me they have no plans to update the current flash's of their radios as they run MirrorLink v1.0 and if I want MirrorLink to work to "Go out and buy a 2015 model"
Ya.... that is what they told me...... best customer service I have ever had....
Also MirrorLink (CCC) told me that they create the MirrorLink driver and that is all, the driver is sold to Samsung, Pioneer etc.... and the contract they sign places responsability of supporting the MirrorLink with their software on the hands of the company, not MirrorLink........

Mirror link does NOT work... Currently have a note 4 with a Pioneer 2015 deck Avh-x5700bhs
... The phone says connected but the head unit screen stays black... Pioneer offered no resolution and neither did Samsung
Avh-x5700bhs and mirrorlink
According to a review on Amazon... Mirrorlink is supposedly working now after Note 4 lollipop update... I however think it's bull, it was posted over a month ago and I don't think the note 4 revieved Android 5.0 on any carrier at the time.. Anyone confirm this??

Thanks, yeah, I call BS on that. He basically has no review history, just one item.

From what I'd heard, it's only the Note 4 that was having a problem. Other MirrorLink 1.1 Android Phones had no issues. No need to jump on the iPhone sheep wagon.
Hmmmn.... Samsung is for ever pissing me off... Never owned an iPhone and probably never will but everytime I try and leave Samsung they come out with something I want... The Note 5 for instance is rumored to be redesigned and incredible..

...and probably without a MicroSD slot.
Yeah, but if they offer 128gb of internal memory...im good with that or even an 80gb version... On board memory will make for a better experience anyway..micro sd cards are great but (for me)they're not needed. I have a class 10 64gb card in my device and I've never filled it up. I'll torrent movies straight to my device but, I don't keep them, once I watch them, I delete them. + my car deck reads jump drives so I keep my music on a jump drive and it's bad ass... So for me, I'll be good...
Disappointed...

I have the Note 4 with Lolipop 5.0.1 and a Pioneer AVH-X5700BHS head unit with the latest firmware from Pioneer (8.29) and mirror link will connect the phone to the deck, but the only app available is AppRadioLive, which in my opinion is totally useless.

Using HP lapdock with Note 8

Hello I got an Samsung note 8. I want to use this phone with the HP lapdock. But I don't get it worked. Can someone help me?
Thank you!
It's not designed to work with Android! Some modders may have gotten a custom rom to work partially with it, but not for the Note 8.

Whether it's designed to work with Android or not, it works really well on the Galaxy S9. I'm typing on my HP lapdock via the S9 right now.
Are you using a Thunderbolt 3 cable?

Hey. Is your S9 stock or not? Also, you mean exactly thunderbolt 3 cable or any usb-c? Maybe you can put up a short video on YouTube of how it works?

It is stock. I had to go out to Best Buy and spend a good chunk of change on a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 cable, but that was all I needed to get it working. Nothing special I had to do in the settings. Sometimes I'll plug it in and the resolution is funky or the sound won't work, but simply unplug and plug it back in and it'll fix.
I don't know if the Note 8 has DP over USB-C, so it may not work with the HP lapdock. The S9 does which is why it works. Now, as I see it, the ultimate phone to use with the HP lapdock other than the HP phone itself would be the Note 9, since apparently it will output Dex without the need for the Dex Pad and it's much better then Sentio.
Are you able to use the touchpad on the lapdock? I am also typing on the lapdock but ever since the oreo update it will not let me use the touchpad, only use the screeen as the touchpad, which is annoying.
I got everything working! Using the V8H07UT model with working video, keyboard, trackpad and mobile charging using the included USB-C cable. Initially had the problem with Keyboard and Mouse not working - but the Note 9 forum guys recommended a hard reset on the HP Lapdock itself by pressing on it for 15 seconds until the keyboard flashes and reboots. Worked fine from there when I plug in my phone.
I am loving this setup so much..
I have the Note 8 too with the HP Lapdock... Yes it works great most of the time
Just sound is the issue sometimes, but the 15 second reboot usually fixes the problem.
Note 8 & HP Elite X3 Lapdock
Is your setup still working? No other issues other than sound?
