It could be an IC problem or something else other than motor problem.
I remember, one of my device had more soldering wax which was clogging the connections of my speakers.
The point being it could be actually anything really.
Why don't you show it to a technician huh?
Quote me in case you expect a reply. Good Luck

An integrated circuit or monolithic integrated circuit (also referred to as an IC, a chip, or a microchip) is a set of electronic circuits on one small plate ("chip") of semiconductor material, normally silicon.

All I'm saying is you should show it to a technician to pin point the problem. It could be anything from loose connection, fried IC , faulty vibration motor.
You can not be sure unless you physically check it.

Personally tested 100% working

Last time I got this problem and went to a services center. They told me need to change the vibrator and whole screen... cost me quite a fortune...

Well they really bs on that screen part, they have nothing to do with that.
But I upgraded to the Z1 now so this is irrelevant now.

*#*#SERVICE#*#*
there you can make a directly vibration test.

Memory card, camera, sensors defective, serious problem, need help!

Hello,
so today I bought a second-hand LG optimus black that was soft-bricked and had a cracked touchscreen. Since I'm not new to android and know how to fix these things, I thought this was just another way for me to get a good phone cheap.
The problem is:
- after unbricking the phone, and installing official v10a software, there are issues with the phone - camera force closes, any of sd cards wont be recognized ("removed sd card, insert a new one" notification, never changes), the screen rotation doesn't work, there is no lockscreen, phone dialer has lags, and the screen turns on after 5-10 seconds. Otherwise it's ok.
With software v20b it also likes to hang up. Theeen you have to remove the battery
So I dissasembled it, and it seems to have short circuited somewhere on the motherboard (there is a brown spot on the metal motherboard cover plate).
I marked the area in a picture below (notice that it's right next to the SanDisk chip - i guess that organizes the memory, so it should take care of the sd card as well). Keep notice this isn't the picture of my motherboard, I will post my own photos a bit later..
Maybe it was waterdamaged, but the sticker on the battery is white :/
Please don't tell me to factory reset, or try other software or memory cards, already did that.
CWM won't detect memory cards as well.
I need any possible ideas to fix it.. do you think a reflow would have any chances to do the job? any ideas, please, will try anything..
PLEASE, help.
Some update. So I flashed software V30B, and it seems to get better - finally I get a lockscreen, and not in 10 seconds also, the accelerometer sensor is working, phone is smoother. FRONT camera is working as well, while in video call mode, yay! when turning on the camera, it has a black screen with all the buttons and camera settings, and a message that there's no sd card (although it's inserted :| ) and hangs up if I switch to front camera. Memory card still not detected..
Thinking of capturing a video to show you whats the situation.. Till then here are some photos to show you my beauty
P.S. don't be shy, guys, any ideas for fixing?..
the photos

Well I thought I would find more hardware technicians here, but whatever..
I downloaded the service guide for optimus black, and after looking at the schematic sheets, I'm 90% sure it's "SUB PMIC CAM POWER (LP8720)" controler that's failing. It controls the 5mp camera, microSD card and motor driver (vibration) power supplying. Neither of these functions are working on my OB. So no need for hardware hackers, nothing new they can tell me. So I'm thinking of ordering this pmu, but could you tell me guys where I could get it from with normal priced shipping? Shipping time wont matter at all.. Digi-key and mouser want to charge me with 40$ shipping, while all I need is a 2$ part

Makes sense. Most people don't believe that ICs are a very sensitive component.
Obviously, I can't make a theory of what's wrong on that device, as I don't have it here.
Do you have a multimeter? On the service manual you might have somewhere what to do (e.g. where to measure voltages) if some functions are not working, or did you already try that? I know the service manual always ends with "replace pcb", as usually the technical support don't actually do the repairs, they just follow what's on the manual and send the old parts to the manufacter for repairing and reassembling, but it might help you understand if you really need to replace this IC. Is there any fuse nearby, for example? Remember, a short circuit would break fuses. You can check with a multimeter whether they're damaged or not (continuity test).
There's not much I can say, really...these are just some suppositions...
Good luck with that, man

I do have a multimeter, I'm kinda into electronics so..
Yeah, so I had a little break and checked the phone out only a few minutes ago.
The LP8720 is the problem, but its much more f..ked up than I thought..
I marked three spots on the circuit that are quite odd:
1. The place where IC U601 - LP8720 should be.
2. 2.2uH wire wound resistor L601 (MIPSZ2012D2R2 MIPSZ2012D2R2, 2.2 uH, N,2.0X1.2X1.0), not sure if it works, maybe it burnt out, my multimeter shows 0ohm on this one.
3. The place where capacitor C604 (10uF) should be.
I attached the pic of my motherboard, you'll see whats up..
The only place I can get LP8720 is alibaba.com, and the minimum quantity is 10.. that makes about 16 bucks for these. Would be worth buying and trying to fix? And another thing, it's named LP8720TLX-B, not LP8720TLX. Do you think it'll do?
I'm now thinking of taking it to a service center, ask if they could do such a job and how much would it cost..
Thanks for the replies, by the way!
Peace

Hey man,
keep an open mind
What makes you so sure that this IC is damaged?
Think: if the nearby components are damaged, then this IC may behave differently (or may not work at all). We don't need math to think this.
But yes, it can be damaged, but since this is the most expensive component, I think it is really worth checking the others first.
Anyway, answering your topics:
1. Everything looks fine. Good ^^
2. Yes, it's probably damaged. An inductor is supposed to have resistance, but not much. For this one, 0.23 ± 30% Ohm.
Source (datasheet): http://www.fdk.co.jp/cyber-e/pdf/CD-TCE070.pdf
3. Fortunately, this is an easy one. If in doubt, just replace it.
Now, for the headache...LP8720TLX-B and LP8720TLX might be the same IC, but the only way to know this is by comparing their datasheets.
16 bucks is a lot to pay for a component (yeah, it's 10 of them, but it's still a lot). But this is actually your call...are you willing to pay 16 usd for an IC? If it was me, and I was entirely sure it would fix everything, I would probably buy them, but then...like I said, your call.
I think it's worth taking it to a service center, but if they truly follow the service manual, they will tell you they need to replace the entire pcb. But I really think it's worth to try, you never know.
Good luck

Xperia Z power button stopped working.

Hello, I have some big problem with my Xperia Z since yesterday:
The power button stopped working. It doesn't do anything. I can't lock the screen or unlock it. I did not drop the device or something, it just happened.
Sometimes when I press volume up, it acts like the power button and asks if I want to shutdown etc. Also I had the problem that my screen was upside down yesterday. I could not get it good and even changing the launcher did not help. Really strange, as if my sensor was completely going nuts.
Anyway, I am backing up right now, and I will try a factory reset. But this is just strange. I am running 4.2.2.
Anyone an idea what is going on?

I recently had it in the shower, but with the flaps closed.
Does it look like water damage?
I've recently had the same problem.
Also took in the shower, but because the backglass was lifted slightly from the case because of the overheating problem, water came inside and messed everything up.
Phone is now being repaired. And they said it is water damage.

Just explain to them that, the flaps were closed but still water got in to the phone.
I got the same button failure when water went in during shower. Got a replacement from Sony.
I have sent it for repair. Not to the default repair center in the Netherlands but to another company which is specialized in repairs too. Cleaning the device costs 20 Euro. There is a chance other components will be broken too after opening/cleaning, but they will try their best.
I have chosen this option instead of returning to the shop/Sony. That because the devices in the Netherlands are sent to a company called Dynafix. Although they have 'fix' in their name their reputation is that they do not fix phones. They sent you big bills for unfixed phones. Mine has waterdamage and colored stickers anyway, so I already knew for 99% chance that I will have the phone returned unrepaired and have to pay a lot of money just for them to see the colored stickers. Or the chance that they will repair it but that it can cost more than 300 euro (they say they swap a lot of components and charge you a lot)...
I will update when I have my Xperia Z back.

Good luck. Yes I understand. Service center folks are far from being considerate, atleast here in India. They lack knowledge and it's hard to reason with them.
Hello,
After submerging the phone under water it seems that the power button is pressed all the time.
Did anyone have this issue? Did the button start to work after a few hours?
I will try to dry it up....
It seems that all the new phones have issues. (Just switched from HTC One)

Update:
They have 'repaired' my Xperia Z. They swapped the mainboard. It did cost €235...
But I haven't been able to use my device anymore. When they gave my device back I noticed the following things:
- proximity sensor is not working
- notification led is not working anymore
- light sensor is not working anymore
(all those functions worked before I brought the device to them)
I went back to the store and told them about these problems. They said: for 35 euros we might be to fix this.
They tried but where not able to fix. I have not paid these 35 euros.
When I came home I accepted my loss of these sensors and I started installing my device and apps.
But there are even more problems!
- At a random time my device switches off, even if battery is full;
- Sometimes I can boot;
- Sometimes it even doesn't boot... Only wipe with Flashtool or through recovery can get the device booting again.
So I have paid an extra €235 and I can still throw it in the bin....
I think I am going to contact Sony...

I got some kind or real strange behavior just a secound ago.
My Powerbutton seemed not to work even after pressing it a few times, i than called myself and it worked (first though the battery would be empty).
Afterwards it worked again, no problems whatsoever.
What could that be? It wasnt dropped or washed or whatever, indicators are white

Z1 Power Button issue

A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my power button felt different on my Z1. At first I thought it was my imagination, but more and more I was sure something wasnt right.
Last week on the way to work, my colleague who also has a Z1 used my phone to look at something and his first comment was "Whats up with your power button??"
It has no definite feeling when pressing it, its almost impossible to tell if you have pressed it or not, it looks and feels recessed too.
When trying his phone it was exactly as I remembered it to be, when you push it you can feel as response (small click or resistance), on mine there is nothing!
So I contacted Sony Xperia, who were suprised by the described issue. Long story short I have to return the phone to them for a 5 - 7 day turnaround repair.
Anyone else had the same issue? Or even sent their phone back to Sony in the UK? I am a little concerned that once it is prised open to be repaired it will never be the same again! All in all, for the £550 I paid for a premium handset, it is the first one that I have had any hardware issues with.

I think is needed a experience because you have to take apart all phone and I will suggest to let do this job to Sony. And of curse it will have to be seal again to make the water resistance working again. If you do all of this the warranty will be gone.
An update on mine, it got worse and now has been sent back for warranty repair at Sony, well they use a company called SBE Ltd in the UK
I'm not very impressed to be honest, this is the first phone I've had to return to the manufacturer for repair, this was meant to be a quality product. So there is at least 3 people with the same problem, maybe more who haven't noticed. Potentially there is an issue with the design or button component.
In so cheese off as I have to use a crappy Nokia Lumia 800 Windows phone for the period it is away!
I have been looking at a Nexus 5 or Note 3 as a replacement, selling mine on eventual return from repair..

Ok, but if the button still working I think is not worth to open it and risk much more, BTW is not the button problem but the hardware component under the button.
Z1 button issue
I'm from India and have the same problem with the button. I bought Z1 around October last year. The button started getting worse gradually from the beginning of January, and now there's absolutely no feedback on pressing. It almost feels as if there's a spring under the button.
If anyone has given the phone for repairs to Sony for this issue, please reply. I'm also worried about the waterproofing and other possible damage to the device, specially given the fact that it's got a non-removable back so opening up the device might be a mess.
I've seen a video on YouTube about the z
As far as the Z is concerned there are about 4 screws and the rest is glued. Front- and backside.
Now, you can guess if the phone is still waterproof after putting it back together.
Even with skilled techs and the appropriate equipment I highly doubt it.
Here is the link

It's a German video but I think the pictures speak for themselves.
Best thing you could do is to ask the repair center for a guarantee on wich you can depend on (written of course)

Using my Z1 for nearly a month now and the device power button was slightly a bit wearing off but that wasn't my concern. I'm just worried bout the waterproof capability. If the Z was glue front and back, How long can it last with all those nature element?

It can be forever if you use the device properly and you you keep in mind to don't use the flaps a lot and keep them clean. Flaps like that can do great job for 2 years without problem but time and natural degradation is on they way, so if you will replace the flaps after this time is fine to me. But if you keep leaving the phone in you car on dashdoard under the sun all the time clearly this can compromise the assembly and the sealing of the phone. So practically depend of how you use your phone.

Yes , opening the phone for a button will be a mess and maybe is not covered by warranty so if the button working well I will not be worry about it. The day when it will not work then you will get the new button.

I started this thread, it is definitely a problem and you should get it repaired. Mine was sent back and now has been repaired, not very impressive for a "premium" handset!
It was only away for just over a week.

Yeah, I'm thinking of giving it in next week. Very disappointing from a flagship phone. Did yours show any visible sign of damage after repairs? Even scratches etc.?

Water proof after board replacement?

Hey guys,
A weird question...
So I have had my phone repaired under warranty thru JB Hifi (a brick and mortar place chain in Australia). The repairer supposely replaced the board as it was completely dead (the IMEI # is different so I believe they did replace it). I am not 100% if the water "proofness" still exists now that the board is replaced...
How would I do a quick test and where would I stand in the warranty side of things if the phone dies after the test?
Anyone have any idea?
Cheers,
Yots.

And if it dies?
Normally they do a waterproof test at the end ...
Try putting it under water for a millisecond or so, take it out and see if anything happened.

I have contacted Sony support and they told me it sounds like the phone needs servicing by their service centre. They mentioned that since its not repaired by them, the water resistance feature might not have been tested/done..
Going to call them monday and organise it to be serviced me think.

Fastboot, recovery not working, cannot charge, no LED lights. In few words - totally dead. I tried method with checkpoints on motherboard and had successfully flashed official ROM but result was same - dead.
Any one has any ideas whats the problem? I have changed battery from working model but nothing so it should be something with motherboard. But what?

not a solution, as I did it already twice, after a week or two you need to do the same. Probably the only option is to change the motherboard.

Hello i had same problem with phone. Totally dead, then i read on forum that it is probably pmi8994 chip on motherboard that was defected. I order that chip from aliexpress( must know what version is chip on your phone). Mine was pmi8994 002. I paid 8$ on aliexpress for two of them(you need only one) and 35$ for replacement. After replacement it come alive and working fine more than half year. I hope this will help.

It was suddenly power off and didn't want to turn on. I put it on charger (before failure battery was around 70%), but it didn't power on and notification light for charging was very dim and blinking. Then i check my domestic forum and got solution from one user who had same problem.

How did you change the chip? I saw a video on Youtube that describes the procedure of changing a chip, and looks like it is definitely nothing for laymen.

Friend of mine who´s kind of expert on soldering did this. Unfortunately fix didn´t last very long and problems started occuring again shortly.
