Help! Can't update ATT S5 from 4.4.2 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 5

I've searched these forums high and low, I've tried all the methods listed, Odin, ADB, and Kies. All I'm looking to do is to get the latest ATT software update for my S5.
Here's the catch, it's an ATT S5, unlocked, and I am on Bell in Canada. I try to do the OTA update and the phone won't as I believe it wants to be on the ATT network for this to work.
I have a G900A, and its on G900AUCU2AND3
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Carl

Are you trying to use the att updates or Rodgers ?

Theres a thread in s5 att general with the 5.0 ota file and instructions on how to load it in stock receovery, i'll link it if you cant find it.
Sent from my Twi5ted SM-G900A using Tapatalk

If your on the Rodgers network it's trying to download the Rodgers firmware. Are you trying to keep root or just want the regular 5.0 Ota update
---------- Post added at 12:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:20 AM ----------
You can use Odin flash the Ota stock or rooted

I'd just like the ATT OTA 5.0 update if possible. I am not even rooted, just SIM unlocked.
I will try the method in Rakuu's post too. Thanks guys.

Switching From Galaxy S6 cricket to at&t

I have seen the forums that its easy to shift from cricket wireless firmware to at&t but the problen is i have saw people saying that you will lose your unlocked sim or it will get relocked by the carrier as it upgrades.....is that true?
Also wanted to know if someone can post a tutorial or something like that... im currently on buildnumber g920aztuu3boj6

Link is right above....
Yes, it is easy. Only benefit to do it at this point is better android security updates in the future...right now ATT and Cricket are on same android security update.
Downfall is, I have not found a way to go back at all. You get ATT bloatware. Some of which it terrible....you also don't get OTA updates. and yes it relocks your GSM Sim unlock....(However, all you need to do to fix this is call Cricket again and get a new unlock code if you do not have the previous unlock code and reinput it.)
At this point however I would not do it, and wish I could go back.

Once you physically do an unlock on a Samsung S6 device(*putting another sim in and booting up the phone and inputting the code.) then the device will remain unlocked and you can flash threw odin, or backups or factory reset the phone without losing the unlock. Only way I know the lock can be re-enabled is if you do an emergency factory recovery on the phone or you have the phone serviced(in which they do an emergency factory recovery on the phone.) and I don't even know if you can force an emergency recover in Smart Switch anymore like you used to be able to do with Kies.

I'm currently on PD6. Can I flash this on top of that via odin or are there incremental updates I need to do prior to this? Thanks for the guidance!

Question about updating
Hi, first post on xda.
My phone is an AT&T version but I live in AU, and I want to update it to marshmallow from what it is currently on (5.1.1), and it won't update since I'm not in the U.S.
It's currently on AUCU3BO12.
Can I flash this PG1 without upgrading to anything else first? Can it go from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 directly from BO12? (According to AT&T's website, BO12 is a bit down the line in terms of updates, there have been a number since).
Edit: Also, which .tar file do I use out of the 4?
Thanks!
Does anyone know the answer to the above?
Finally unbricked my G920 Samsung Galaxy S6 with this
Thank you so much for this. I bricked my phone by stupidly flashing a 5.1 firmware and i've been scrambling to fix it for about a week now. And I couldn't find these files anywhere. Thank you so much

Flashed on mine (BOI2, 5.1.1) and it's stuck in the samsung galaxy s6 powered by android screen.
Already restarted to recovery and wiped cache partition and factory reset from there. Still stuck in boot screen...

when softawre updates are released, they are made avaialble for download in phases over the network. your phone will also release an alert once it is available for you to download.

why does that not appear on verizons website
Verizon
the software updates are listed as the become available. our website has a seprate page for device software and security updates as well.
Verizon
just a sec while I check if that shows the release. it may not have been updated as yet since this release has only just been confirmed in the last few days

Thank you very much for your patience.
Well Damn. I know if you look at the fota site they are test CSB7 didnt see the other one. Thanks for the information.
http://fota-cloud-dn.ospserver.net/firmware/VZW/SM-N960U/version.test.xml
Interesting. That means the other carriers will be updating to CSB3 too.
If the Verizon rep was giving me accurate info-sometime they say anything to get you off! I just don't see any info with anyone getting the OTA you would think people would have already if it was pushed on the 27th
I would agree with that as well. Cant find anything online about it
I'm still on an old leak from November. Just been waiting on the full Odin drop for Verizon.
I haven't believed a word Verizon has ever said to me. and I've had them for 15 years now. Here it is March 1st... and Verizon still has this at their update site.
God, hope they don't go to some ridiculous version - I updated to CSAA a month ago, and I'm not looking forward to trying to get the right version on the phone.
So those of us who already did manually with firmware science will have to Odin back correct then proceed w new Ota? We wouldn't be able to just ota over correct? Sorry if a dumb question. Been out of the rooting and flashing game since note 4 days
I'm currently on CSAA from the side load. Question I have is if I want to downgrade back to Oreo, which post on the forum is the correct one to follow to downgrade so I can upgrade to the new OTA? It seem that the new Verizon OTA will not be the CSAA one...
I've read several posts but not sure which one to follow for Verizon.

For all those on 1CSAA who want to upgrade to 1CSB3. you do NOT need to downgrade to ARL1. You can flash this file in Recovery, which will upgrade you to the official 1CSB3:

Download that file and place it on your SD Card. No need to rename it. Then flash it in Recovery. This will only work if you are currently on N960USQU1CSAA.
Thanks to @kevindevonwilliams for finding and providing the file!!

Sprint N960U unlocked in Canada

I have searched these forums but have not been able to find an answer to my questions.
I recently bought a Sprint N960U unlocked in Canada. I am using a Rogers SIM and it's working but I am stuck on Android 9 Nov2019 firmware.
I want to update to Android 10 using Odin. I have a few questions
From reading these forums I understand I can flash any snapdragon firmware. is that correct? I am planning on installing the sprint firmware just to be safe
Will flashing a new firmware lock my phone (I don't know how the phone was unlocked originally)
I am planning on using the instructions from Sammobile to flash the firmware. Anything else I need to be aware off
I suppose you can do a CSC reset by *#272*IMEI#
Select Rogers or XAC for fully unlocked. This will wipe off your phone though.
Hi, I am now having the exact same situation as yours. The new Note 9 with Sprint stucks on Andriod 9. How did you resolve the issue? Thanks.
Have you checked with Sprint that they show the phone as being unlocked?

How to update AT&T SM-N950U ROM?

Hello, I have an unrooted and unlocked AT&T SM-N950U that hasn't received updates since September 1st 2018
When I tried in the past to check for updates it always told me the phone already has the latest update but it's been like that for 2 years already and I know there have been new updates...
It is still on android version 8.0.0 with Build number: R16NW.N950USQS5CRI4
I wanted to update to the latest recommended ROM because I am worried about the state of security on the phone. Lately I noticed app started to install themselves from nowhere and I am worried the phone might already be infested with viruses undetected by security softwares.
How should I upgrade the ROM? Any help, hint or recommendation would be very appreciated!
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Downloaded the firmware from Frija or Sammobile..download correct version of odin..extract the firmware you downloaded leaving you with files AP..BL..CP..CSC..HOME_CSC
OPEN ODIN..boot device to download mode..plug in to computer. Odin will recognize device. Load BL file in BL spot..AP file in AP slot and so on. If you want complete wipe load csc..if not use Home_csc..click start wait till Odin says pass..DONE!

also I wasn't sure which ROM I should download from there since there are so many options

Ok, so I went ahead and tried to flash it using Odin, but I keep getting an error, after it hangs for a while during connection process.

Maybe the cable is faulty? Why doesn't it want to connect?

Go back to the log tab and click "start" in the bottom right corner. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR PHONE UNTIL ODIN SAYS "PASS."
For Oreo on USA models, only Xfinity, US Cellular and T-Mobile firmware can be downloaded via Samfirm. Sprint's will be coming soon, but the only way to get Verizon and AT&T firmware is by updating your phone to Oreo via Smart Switch. If someone can update their VZW/ATT phone via Smart Switch and send me the files I can upload and add them here.

According to step #8 in his instructions
Apparently The only way to update an AT&T firmware is by updating the phone to Oreo via something called "Smart Switch". This is what google brought up

Currently installing and trying it.
Edit2:
Just tried "Smart Switch" and I found out it's not that "smart" after all... It also told me I'm on the latest version..

At&t does not post U firmware. U1 is unlocked firmware. Just download any version of U firmware. USC..CCT.. all are the same. You should be flashing firmware that is S7 or U7. This will update to Pie and there is no flashing backward. Try a different USB port. Whatever version you select make sure to use correct Odin. Use the files that I told you previously...BL..AP..CP..CSC you will get there. Its very easy.

Odin should work. Only try this to get back on track if Odin doesn't work.. this is not the latest firmware but maybe flash this then try to see if Ota will kick in... Just remember once you update your bootloader, you can't downgrade firmware.. so if your bootloader is S5 or U5 you can't go back to S4 or U4. You can only go up or flash firmware that has same bootloader. Download it. Move to SD card. Boot to stock recovery..look for update.zip..Highlight it..flash. Do not extract. This is a zip that you flash in stock recovery. Go to Firmware Science and read the directions before flashing.

Ok so I did manage to flash using the N950USQS5CRI4 from firmware.science but it ended up deleting all my personal files and doing a clean install.. Very unfortunate but I'll live with it.
Following the firmware.science instructions I now realize why my previous attempts with Odin didn't work... I had to put the device into download mode... I feel so stupid for not realizing this earlier I could have saved all my data.
That is why I suggested you read the instructions. Sorry I wasn't a little more clear. And yes whenever you use Odin you have to put device in download mode, I just assumed you knew that.

It's ok it was a risk I was willing to take I knew something could go wrong but most of the really important stuff to me is already backed up automatically I lost a few notes and photos and images, videos I collected but really not that big of a deal. My really important stuff are on my PC
I did manage to flash the latest firmware with Odin.
Crossing fingers that hopefully it will take care of those pesky game apps that kept installing themselves because that was one of the main reason I wanted to update in the first place lol
If you have At&t sim, you will get the games. Most you can Uninstall. If you have Package Disabler use that to disable the apps you don't want. Be careful not to disable system apps

No at&t sim for me.
You know now that you mention at&t I am actually confused about that... I thought flashing a new firmware would remove all the at&t bloatware I don't need. Where are they coming from? Are they included inside the USC firmware? How can I get a cleaner firmware for the note 8?
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-8/firmware/SM-N950U/USC/download/N950USQS8DTG2/360392/
What sim do you have? Is the device At&t..Tmobile??? The only way to reduce bloat is flashing U1 firmware. You have U device carrier locked U1 is unbranded

As I stated, the firmware USC..TMO..CCT are all the same. They provision to the sim you are using.

Your topic header says How to update At&t firmware, but you say you don't have At&t sim. I'm a bit confused. I will sum all this up..
All the carrier locked firmware is the same..meaning U firmware. You can flash any of them. The firmware will provision to the sim you have. The problem with that is I am now confused as to what carrier you have since you said you don't have an At&t sim. In order to get ota, you will need to be on the latest firmware of the carrier you have. If At&t is on a certain build and you flash firmware that At&t is not currently on you will not get ota.
The U1 firmware is unbranded. Flashing this you will not get all the bloat that comes with U firmware. This is why its important to read up on the basics of using Odin, knowing your firmware version..bootloader..and so on. Give as much info as you can about the device when asking for help, it will save a ton of time. And to add there are a ton of people willing to help but having the basic info about what device you have is key so all trying to help can direct you accordingly. Don't take this as me being a jerk..lol I'm just trying to save you some time[emoji106]

Nah I totally understand where you are coming from. I don't think you are a jerk at all.
It's an at&t device I bought 2 years ago in the US but I am outside of the US and have a completely different sim from a local company. Therefore I don't use any of at&t's services
Initially I thought I could only update to a firmware that was specifically made for an at&t device or if I want a clean install I could install some custom firmware but it might be buggy and not support all the note features. But now thanks to you I am starting to understand it all better now.
Have to be rooted to install custom Rom. And since your bootloader is past revision 3 the older root method does not work. But Extreme Syndicate root method does. But since you are not in United States not sure what carrier you are using. And if your not familiar with the root method it could be a little difficult...But not if you read up. The developer Elliwigy is a beast.

Thank you so much for all your patience and information!
It's ok I don't need root on this phone. I have really basic usage with it. I can also live with the at&t bloatware it never really bothered me in the past but since I already made a clean install I thought maybe there's an easy and quick way to get rid of it.
You say I could install the U1 version using Odin without any issues? based on what I read and understood about the numbers and letters the U1 seems like an Exynos firmware
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...SM-N950U1/TMK/download/N950U1UES8DTG2/360205/
N950U1UES8DTG2
UE = Exynos
SQ = Snapdragon
I have the Snapdragon model
You have to understand the model numbers and build numbers. U1 is not international.
950U-carrier locked
950U1- unlocked
950F-international

S8DTG2..
S=security update
8=bootloader version
You have an At&t device. Only worry about United States Snapdragon firmware. Att..Tmobile..USC..Verizon..Xfinity..Comcast. you need to understand the firmware versions. When you are searching firmware in Sammobile, type in SM-N950U1 if you want unlocked firmware. If you want the carrier locked type in SM-N950U. Not sure where your getting the UE from

I read this post by user Kangi26
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-note-8/how-to/att-oreo-ota-updates-t3756025
There he made the following assertion:
Understanding the Firmware labels
I got a better, more updated explanation to how these are broken down
N=Note
950U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader rev(this is important!)
A,B,C,D = Nougat rev 1, Nougat rev 2, Oreo rev 1, Pie rev 1
If you ever see a build that contains a "Z" such as this: U5ZSA1, that means the build is part of Samsung's Official Beta program. The "Z" in this context replaces the Android Version letter thus obscuring what OS it actually is.
P,Q,R,S = Year (R is 2018, S is 2019)
A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z (Ex. If a build is U5CRK4 then that is the fourth build of the month of November)
So N950USQS5CRK1 would be
N950-U-SQ-S-5-C-R-K-1
N950U (Note 8 Carrier version), SQ (Snapdragon), S (Security), 5 (Bootloader version), C (Build Oreo), R (2018), K (November), 1 (1st build)

So I deducted and figured if SQ after the first U meant Snapdragon, anything else at this position would probably mean Exynos.
So when I saw the following firmware with this label N950U1UES8DTG2 I thought it most be for Exynos:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/g...SM-N950U1/TMK/download/N950U1UES8DTG2/360205/
Again only be concerned with 950U or 950U1
