Off. update/DRM keys - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
id like to put a question; since i have a Sony device for my first time, i didnt knew about camera quality decreasing and Sony services halting with bootloader unlocking. Im very up to taking photos, and camera quality is very important for me, X-Reality too. So, since i lost my DRM keys, when i flash official ftf file, then ill lock my bootloader, and then update my FW from KK to Lollipop by official way via Software Update - will it recover my DRM keys?

Sorry but once you lost the DRM keys (without backing them up) they are gone. Have you tried this "fix", it emulates a couple of functions that you lost, http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
---------- EDIT -------------
Actually I saw that you posted in that thread already yesterday saying that the patch worked - good for you!

is it possible to backup drm keys after i lost them? i managed to backup TA-backup-20150*****.zip several days ago (but im not sure if before/after unlocking bootloader.
EDIT: well i did saw some incerasing camera quality, but x-reality didint worked. im trying to solve my issue, but it will take a long trip. how Cyanogenmod camera holding up?

If you take a backup of nothing - you still have nothing when you restore it.
If you unlocked before backing up - that's it - nothing you do on your own is going to get the keys back. Only Sony can restore keys, and likely the only way they will do that is by replacing the mother board and charging you the parts and labor for it.
If that's not an option for you - then the DRM restore is currently the only other path to follow.

[Q] Bought used Z1. How to verify BIONZ works?

Hi guys,
I got a used Xperia Z1 that came rooted but with stock rom. That said, I have no way to know if the owner previously installed other stuff on it.
I mainly want to make sure that BIONZ (the camera engine) still works fine and enhances my images. I currently have .257 installed and the camera works fine. AFAIK the bootloader is locked - I manage to back up TA so that means it was there to be backed up.
Still, I'm not sure whether or not this BIONZ thing is working. I wanna be sure I'm getting the max quality out of my camera. Any idea how I can test it, toggle it?
If the bootloader unlock the camera simply won't work, ao if it do work you are fine.

I will ask also here, because I will get my Z1 soon. If I unlock DRM keys are deleted, so Camera stops, I can put back the keys correct? But does the camera still doesn´t work under CM for excample?`(Even after Sony fixes the DRM problem, if ever..)

hopefully sony will fix camera for unlocked bootloaders otherwise we are all stuck with sony stock rom for eternity...
or at least they whould realese some app that allows our camera to work even with unlocked bootloader..
Ok, than my guess was right, we are stucked with Sony rom, sad...
Edit: Forever, DRM reading software is not possible under CM (it would violate there license) only way would be an export import of the APPS and software needed? Anyone looked into that?

[Q] Unlocked BL, relocked BL - haven't lost DRM?

Hello everyone!
Some time ago I became bored of slow stock firmware and decided to install CM11, following my good experience with Sony LWW. I unlocked BL via fastboot on ubuntu (making no backups. I will learn someday...), then installed CM11 using CM's instructions for Xperia SP. I've got a working phone, it worked for two months, but was not as fast as I thought, and in addition to that it gave me frequent all-system ANRs with a reboot, when I browsed large pages in firefox. So i decided to go back to stock.
I downloaded a stock firmware called "C5303_12.1.A.1.205_РСТ" and flashed my phone using Flashboot. Rebooted and got a working phone. Then I relocked a bootloader, rebooted again, and again got a working phone. What's more interesting, all features which need DRM still work, i.e. Bravia, Walkman information downloading, TrackID (used to break after flashing back in time).
So I have some questions. Does that mean that I've got a fully stock phone with all features and DRM's somehow? Can I check that? Do I need to worry about DRM anyway?

But how is it still working then? I just finished downloading info on my music collection, and bravia seems to work... I don't understand what I did wrong to get it working perfectly.

some users even showed us the x-reality engine with UBL...so it could be working normally in some way ...so i don't know how is that could be possible ...but maybe you are lucky ....try to backup your DRM keys see if the exists (that is impossible but try it,, you won't lose anything ) :silly:
can not find camera app in menue
Hi,
I have flashed build 06/26 (dirty). Sometimes I can not find the camera - app in menue.
Under settings -> app -> activ app I can find the camera app (is installed) but I can not start them. In menue I doesn't find the app.
Has somebody the same problem?
Sorry for this "survival" englisch and I hope everybody know what I mean

Yup, does not allow me to make a backup. "Backup" and "Restore" options are grayed out in Flashtool, and only "S1 dump" is available. I assume DRM keys are gone. But as long as the features are working, I won't care. I will surely make a backup of everything before doing something to a phone next time. Thanks for an answer.
wenfosi, you may have either:
1) changed the way menu is presented. Swipe from left side of the screen in menu, and select "show apps by alphabet"; or
2) accidentally disabled the Camera app. Locate it in Settings - Apps, click on it, and look if there is a button called "Enable". It should be at the top, near the "Force stop" button. If it is there, then click on it. It will change to "Disable".
Maybe more experienced users will provide more advices. Try these at first.

Have you tried another camera app from the Play Store? This information helps to find the error.
By the way, your English is OK. Is it possible that you are German?

Brand new Z3+ dual E6533 - What to do or what not?

Hi guys.
So i got my new phone today. And first thing i did when i got home is to search for rooting instructions just to find out it is not ready yet. I hope one of you awesome developers can get it done soon.
So i have it stock, and just removed some of the crap that comes installed from the factory.
Current OS version is 5.0.2 and i see there is an available update to 6.
I know this can be a question without an answer yet, but should i just update it and wait for the root to become available or do you think there will be more chances of getting it done with the current version?
And another one... if getting the update is cool, should i update it over the air or is it better to flash the phone with the wire and perform a complete wipe/flash of the new firmware?
Any other suggestions welcome since you have played with it for some time now.
Thank you
There is root available, just not without unlock. Since we have ta backup working now and also drm function restore when rooted, this is not a problem. Updating is worth it definitely, after securing ta. You can always flash an old firmware via flashtool anyway. Regarding wiping or not... Try it out. If something does not work properly... Wipe then.

Sorry about my lack of knowledge, but the TA backup is for the phones that need to be unlocked? My phone is unlocked from the factory, no carrier attached to it. Do i need to use the TA backup anyways for something else?

The bootloader is meant here. Not the carrier lock. If you want to root your Z3+ you need to unlock the bootloader to be able to use fastboot to flash things. An exploit root will be pretty unavailable for a long time because of a security implementation that prevents newer Xperia devices (Z3+, Z5...) to boot when system files are modified the slightest. The thing about TA backup is optional, you can go on and unlock the bootloader without problem and it's officially supported by Sony. You'll just loose software warranty and some Xperia goodies because unlocking the bootloader will break DRM keys.
Edit: the TA backup is only useful if you want to restore it in the future. Now this will sound weird, but when and why you want to restore TA is your decision.

Future proof yourself. Back up your Ta DRM keys. And then swivel to root or not to root. I went for root and haven't looked back. :good:

Press any key to continue . . .
So i see a 2 MB file "TA-07042016" that was saved to the folder.
Am i all good and backed up the bootloader partition just fine?
For now i will keep the phone unrooted and just update to the latest Sony's stock firmware, until i read and learn enough about rooting this device and the advantages i may get out of doing it. First i want to make sure the phone works well without issues while my warranty is still intact, as i haven't used the device yet.
Thanks a lot for the help.
This is all the guides I read
I used it but by making it for single sim. Using a lightweight adb program found on here. If you can revert to lollipop before you bootunlock and backup youre Ta DRM keys
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/iovyroot-temp-root-tool-t3349597/page1
I used this twrp as the others had SD problems and that so this worked. TWRP1 IS SINGLE 2 IS DUAL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/development/twrp-xperia-z3-fota-recovery-t3346298
If you already have just flash this in recovery

Since I've rooted I have been using this project skynet tweak. Give a lot better performance and battery. Greenify with aggressive doze. Xposed for mods my favourite is 20mp superior auto, bubbleupnp so i can Audo cast anything on my screen. And gravitybox to tweak the ui and half the size on nav bar. Plus more
@televoya where did you buy your phone and for what price?
I bought mine in my home country for 315 eur, New, unlocked, bronze (dual sim as yours), but I am pretty sure it was not "properly" imported, as the store is giving only half of the standard warranty period, and a "strange" bill
But, I deliberately did so, due to low price...
Mine was produced on 16/4 (2016 week 4), and came with noise cancelling headphones, and a foil over front screen !?
What about yours?
And, I've got the same rooting instructions from our friend in this topic, but will wait some time to see how the battery behaves, as being now the biggest concern on this phone. Still, 7h of SOT he's getting, are very tempting
Hi Guys,
I got my Z3+ Dual couple of days back.. I updated to MM .185.. Is it possible to backup TA now?

Z1 X-Reallity, BionZ on unlocked bootloader

I would like to know is there any way to get back X-reallity and BionZ after bootloader unlock. I know the solution wich save DRM keys before the unlock but when I did it I didn't know about it and about I will lost this features. So I found Bravia restore solution for X-Reallity. But after I installed and did everthing what was in the install section, I dont see any differences. And the BionZ. I have stock .236 rom and Im using Adaptive display mod and for my cam I installed the Z5 premium libs. So about the pictures, I dont feel it same as it was before unlock.
I need your help guys is there any way how I can chack this feature working or not and other way for X-Reallity getting back?
Sorry for my bad english.
If you don't have a TA backup from your phone, you have lost the proprietary Sony algorithms that make pictures appear better on your screen. It is not the camera apps or libs, but rather these algorithms that matter. And they are not recoverable, even if you relock your bootloader...
So i will never get these things back?
Not on this phone...
Not true, you can have these stuffs with fake drm keys: http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
I'll try it

Can't restore DRM functions after unlocking bootloader, backingup DRM and flashingrom

Hi,
So I've tried every tutorial that has been published out there in regards to restoring the DRM functions on my Xperia Z3+ (Single Sim version) but to no avail.
I tried the method posted by najoor https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/guide-safe-bootloader-unlock-restore-t3386915 followed every step (Managed to back up my DRM keys, unlocked bootloader successfully). I then flashed a stock Marshmallow rom that was posted on the thread by wolfaas12345 https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z4/general/nougat-firmware-z3-e6553-6533-t3545481 (I flashed the 32.1.A.1.185 one that's posted there).
Then I followed the instructions to emulate the DRM keys as posted in the najoor thread (2- How to emulate DRM keys and/or root and/or add recovery after unlocking the bootloader.). It looks like everything seems to be working (I'm able to go to Recovery etc). But then when I go check to see my DRM functions, they aren't restored. (Camera is still emitting lots of noise, x-reality isn't added back). I double check it by going into Service Mode by dialing *#*#7378423#*#* then into Service Tests -> Security and still see the errors there.
I gave up using this method eventually, then found out another thread posted by jimRnor https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672 that has a drmrestore zip file for xperia z3+. I flash it using TWRP recovery and it looked like it was flashed successfully, yet when I go check whether the DRM functions are restored, they aren't.
I'm at a loss here now. I don't know where am I going wrong or what step am I doing wrong. I would greatly appreciate any help here if someone can guide me to the correct steps to restoring my DRM functions on my phone.
Thanks!
