Since official update missing from too long time in latest months I have searching for alternative ROM or MOD since I cannot spend a lot of money for a new smartphone again after only a couple of years and with stock ROM Optimus for some reason is more laggy than smartphone far less powerful.
Unfortunately in all I have found some issue and problems, so now I'm wondering what are the ROM\MODS more used by the P880 community on XDA..
Eventually a list of not-working things (eg missing radio, broken GPS, unusable MHL HDMI out etc.) would be appreciated.

after more than 1 year of flashing many ROMs, I think I've found my best tradeoff with this: omni-4.4.4-20150520-p880-FINAL
No bugs for my use and excellent smothness.
The only drawback is the long time required to turn mobile data ON.

My experience after 2 years using this phone and custom roms:
- phone is s**t (but I do not intend to buy a new one, so here goes..)
- Used some recommended roms laying around, but here are some roms I tested and used for longer period.
- I use phone for everyday use. I want lagfree, fast and good battery life (at least in deep sleep). I mostly use some simple apps, browsing, messages, pdf books, camera and video recording.
1. CM11 (4.2.2.)
Great rom, with some bugs, but nothing serious.
Occasional lags, good battery life - some builds were awsome (less than 0,3%/hour batt consumption).
Maybe little too slow occasionally.
2.CM11 (4.4.4)
Also great rom, with some nice features, much more polished than 4.2.2. At start there were great builds, but after some time it got worse. Probably kernel related.
Quite good speed, some lags, quite good batt (but not so good as 4.2.2).
If you did not restart phone in a while, it got very laggy - at least second period of rom development.
3.MAHDI FINAL
Best rom - is`s features are endless. Great for customising everything, quite good speed, but laggy from time to time - when you most need it! Battery similar to CM11 4.4.4, but better with speed. Quite good, but too much lag for me.
3.MOURTA LS+KERNEL
Best rom I used becouse of smoothness, features and customization of whole rom. Really smooth.
BUT it has a bug with gapps - if you do not google enable update service(s) - it does not go to deep sleep.
And MAJOR DOWNSIDE - worst batt life of all the roms I used. Tried everything, but batt life did not get any better. Especially when you use the phone - batt drains as hell.
So I got a felling that all this speed and other goodies comes with bad batt.
I can do this on my own, with any rom, by putting governor to performance
Too bad for this rom... Goodbye!
4.OMNI 4.4.4. final
So I tried this recommended rom - after reading some forum posts.
It is not so great with features (some of them I miss), but it is almost lagfree, quite fast, good batt life..
Maybe only rom I used, that is stable and fast enough for everyday use..
I miss some functions and LS speed , but for now - I am satisfied.
For the end
- I did not tried any custom kernels, at least for longer period. Had a felling they all got too bad batt life for my taste.
- tried also scripts and tweaks 2.2, but I did not notice any big improvment over my demands (stable, fast, batt).
And it would be great if we all together find the best rom for everyday use ?!
And maybe upload the zips to some cloud, for later generations to use ?
I personally would like to get CM11 4.2.2 builds.
And CM11 unofficial builds to try.
That would be great, if whole LG 4x community could create final ROM for our phone - with everything done, and working as it shoud be.
Personally I use Resurrection Remix 5.4.5 ROM. Pretty good performance and battery life after some tweaks (Power Nap, disabling some wakelocks etc.). But it wasn't updated since May 2015 Sometimes it's going crazy: interface, and system crashes, but that's ocassionally (every day ? - f%#&#).
This phone is S%$t, and sometimes I want to throw it through the window... But i'm poor xD

Yeah bros, i totally understand you all...Every ROM i used (some for short, other for long periods of time) eventually turned to be ****. I of course dont blame not one dev, as their doing their best to keep alive a crappy smartphone. Right now i use for some time the CM 12.1 i think, as it was the most (at least) usable ROM, whitout huge bugs and a whole lot of lag. There were a lot of times i wanted to burn this useless piece of **** and throw it out the window...But finally the time has come. I ordered a LG G4! Comming next week. I want an update to this survey. Still I haven't found a ROM where everything works. In some ROM doesn't work correctly the GPS, in other ROMS I aren't able to scan QR codes. other ROMS have TV out broken, fm radio broken or videocamera not fully functional or with worsened quality... other ROMS are laggy or with freezes.
This is a 1,5 Ghz quad core with 1GB ram, is an outdated device but still far more powerful than many entry levels in the marked that are released with recent Android OS version and are way faster despite their hardware.
What are the most newer ROM fully working for daily use?

The only not-working stuffs, that I know of, are QR code scanning and FM radio. QR code scanning can never be fixed for grouper blobs based ROMs. FM radio is never a critical feature. Most custom ROMs choose to ignore this for most Android phones, not just LG O4X.
If you ever build the ROM from source, then you will appreciate this Lollipop ROM that it is preserving most of the pristine Google AOSP experience as much as possible.
Unfortunately for me that my taste of Android OS has been less than desirable until Lollipop. It is my personal choice that I won't look back on anything lesser than Lollipop on my Android phone. This is also one of the reason I am staying away even from LG stock JB ROM. If we take away issues with OS aging, then we hope to be able to declare that stock ROM should be perfect. But I can tell you that for LG O4X, LG had failed this.
In short, I just want to tell you that it is very rare to find custom ROMs matching the functionalities of stock ROM perfectly. If you had to take the route of custom ROMs, then you need to choose base on features that matter most for your usage.

I don't really care if its 4.3, 4.4 or 5.1
As long as it has halfway decent battery life (I know the tegra3 is power hungry) and it doesn't have seconds of lag in whatsapp like the stock rom, I am happy.

I mean some Rom works for me very well but same rom for another friend dosn't work as it's supposed to be.
Lately I am using Euphoria for daily driver. I like LP features. Jb or Kit Kat doesn't satisfied me. And I decide to buy new phone because like I said before P880 's hardware doesn't enough anymore. I think I will buy Z5.

Yes, I do agree with u on the fact that our devices are somewhat different from one another and we are having somewhat difficult time in coping with the new OS provided that our hardware are a bit outdated. However, I think this phone is really endurable and I am very satisfied with this, I have been using this phone for almost three years and it still function as it is so I have to say I am impressed. Currently I am trying out cm11 and mahdi 4.4., I have to say cm11 is rock stable but I would say mahdi has a lot of customizable features that I like. So it is quite difficult to choose among them. But for LP rom, I think it requires way too much resources that our phone might not be able to cope with.

May I suggest beanstalk. Good battery, lots of optional features like halo etc (only thing that doesnt work is the screen recorder). If there was a lollipop version, then I would run it in heartbeat :good:

I am running Mahdi at the moment.
Works, responsiveness is fine. But sometimes PlayServices go bezerk and cause wakelocks, until the battery dies.
And Whatsapp sometimes get's messed up when the screen rotates.

I have heard many good things about beanstalk but never had the chance to experience that as most of the links in the post are dead.... Is there anywhere that we can find to try out that rom?
I am currently using ICS Stock 4.0.3
Also tried custom roms like Cm11 and Cm12.1
For me Stock (ICS) is good as it provide me best battery life for charging,usage,camera,wifi etc

Try to use privacy guard to block the wake-up and keep awake of the google play service, then the drain should be gone.

My old SGS is being given to my dad and I was wondering which rom and kernel would be best. 2.3 and 4.0 make no difference. He isn't that much of a tech-geek so any fancy features or outfits are not important. What is important however is battery life, that it's easy to use, and that it has a smooth user interface. I was thinking of cyanogen mod 7 or maybe aokp if it works well enough with only a 512 MB ram. MIUI and some others are also up for consideration. It would be great if it had Finnish language capabilities also but this is not a strict requirement.
Check out TeamHacksung's ICS build. Its incredibly stable, full featured but also very clean and crisp. Nothing overwhelming, worth a look !
Seriously if it is for your dad I'd look for a stock rom... maybe one of the most recent ones then just add the lag fix, semaphore or other faster kernel. Or leave as is with stock.
Cyanogenmod 7.1 stable has the potential "hello hello" bug which I can't see my Dad enjoying & for me CM9 was fairly unstable & laggy. Also got "hello hello" issue which I have not had on any other Roms although some have had it on other Roms.
Most ICS builds are great and very stable but they do have bugs at this point and are mostly Alpha builds.
Darky's rom would be nice and Ficeto's base roms are stable, pre-rooted and so on. Try them
Stock roms probably have the longest battery life. But really if he's not going to use the features of a smart phone (internet, mail, etc etc), maybe you would want to look into selling it and buying a phone designed for older people? (Not too sure how old he is)
There are phones designed with large keypads etc, specifically for the elderly. But that's for people who are 70-80+

HAHA, my dad is not that old. He will learn it quite quickly, I’m sure. I tried few roms yesterday and Cyanogenmod 7 was pretty good. But then I flashed AOKP M4 and I don’t think going back to 2.3 even on this low hardware is an option anymore. ICS runs smoothly, is fast and works very well. Also flashed Devil’s kernel and battery life seems to be better than with stock, at least in idle and many people seem to recommend it. I won’t use stock rom because I don’t wish touchwiz to my worst enemy let alone to my dad. Custom launcher don’t work that well as they won’t stay in memory.
Currently have a Xperia SP, but need a little extra money in my wallet and just to add another reason, in all honestly there isn't enough ROM support for me personally, and i'm not one to wait

I can not compare models and I might have other needs than you (I am not a gamer). But considered the age of this phone, an used one can not be expensive, and there are some great fast and stable ROMs out there and there is ongoing development.
Furthermore, it is impossible to brick: you can change bootloader (it can not be locked), ROM and kernel as much as you like and there are excellent tools for doing so. Try to look at my post here.
You have to understand, it is not a state of the art phone, and in order to use all features (BT and HDMI-output), you will probably have to run a ROM based on an older CM version. Please note that CM has not released stable versions since CM7.2, and will not, but some have managed to modify CM10-CM10.2 to run on p990.
I am very happy with the phone and like to follow development on this forum!

Here are my 2 cents. The main problem that plagues this otherwise quite likeable device is the RAM, or lack thereof. CPU as well as GPU are quite powerful despite being almost 3 years old.
Though one thing that goes in its favour, as you rightly mentioned, is the support of awesome developers. Guys like pengus77, tonyp, jishnu, sreeprajay, spyrosk & all the usual suspects have done such a awesome job of the utilizing every single ounce of its potential to the fullest.
It's usually fast as long as you manage your resources well. Don't allow too many services chewing precious RAM in the background. Using apps like "Greenify" comes quite handy to achieve the same.
Still, not a bad device to tinker around as long as one doesn't set his expectations a bit too high. Personally, I would suggest you to choose Sensation over this primarily for more available RAM. Having said that, Sensation has its own fair share of issues too like the infamous "death grip".

Sorry to interrupt, but i'm in the same situation. Just changed my phone, and i like this one a lot more than a newer Samsung.
I'm looking for a rom, anything above CM7.2, preferrable 10.x at least with HDMI, BT and WiFi hotspot working.
I have flashed about 5 roms on the above CM10.x and everyone is missing a different thing, be it camera, BT or WiFi hotspot, even battery eating issues. (why no one makes a full one?)
And all lack HDMI.
I would use even a rom based on ICS if it has everything on it's place.
Altough, i really liked the new lock screen on CM10.2 meanwhile overclocking and Kowalsky opened a few doors.
Does anyone know of any mostly stable rom closest to this?
Which would be the newest ROM of any flavor with everything working and no battery issues?
I tried quite a few ROMs & here's my set-up. The best so far I could find in terms of performance, stability & battery life was pengus77's "Unofficial CM 10 ROM" coupled with his own Kowalski M1 Stable Kernel.
Though being primarily a CM10 based ROM which is a derivative of 4.1.2, it will not have lock screen widgets if that's the thing you really care about. As far as camera is concerned, I use jishnu sur's camera mod.

I'm having real trouble with battery life when 3g enabled, overnight my battery drop about 1%, today i enabled 3g and tt went down by almost 30% in only 2 hours. Quite dissapointing issue.
By any chance do you know where could i find more info. about HDMI not working issue? I can't believe that no one ported the driver or worked it out since it appeared.
Frankly, I have neither tested HDMI out function nor it has any real world use in my case. My best guess is it'll work with Stock based Custom ROMs & stock ROM itself of course. You may test it out with Pengus77's ROM if it works.
why don't you want to downgrade to another better phone, for example to Xperia M it's really cheaper and much better than Optimus 2x.

I've had my T-Mobile S5 for about 2 months, bought it used after my S4 drowned in a swimming pool. So far I love the thing, and I've been trying lots of ROMs, but I can't seem to find one that matches the speed or battery life of the stock! What's up with that?
Memorable roms I've tried:
Cyanogenmod 12.1 Nightly
Tesla ROM for S5
TipsyOS for S5
All of these roms were stable, but they felt slow. Especially from waking the device while locked, it always seemed to take a few seconds for the display to pop up, as opposed to the almost instantaneous response from the stock (debloated) T-Mobile rom. Another issue was battery life, with the stock debloated rom I get insane battery life. Like I can use it all day and still have 60%+ when I get home from work. With the other roms I never had more than 20%. I gave each rom several days to "settle" but nothing seemed to change.
I'm skeptical that roms based on CM12.1 would be any faster/better, but I'm willing to try. I think AICP would be my next choice.
What do you guys have to say? Any fast/good roms out there for the S5 that don't kill battery life?
I found the same, tried a few popular custom ROMs, but none of them matched the smoothness, stability or battery life of stock

I've felt mostly the same for the most part. I've had my gs 5 since the day it came out for tmobile. I really like it and all. But I've really been on the prowl for a good custom rom. Most of the best things aren't as stable as stock touchwiz.
I mean don't get me wrong there are a ton of custom roms (at least right now, a year ago not so much).
That said I have done extensive testing of alot of aosp roms. MY findings are below:
- The most stable rom I've used was probably a version of sokp rom from all the way back in may. Its not perfect, but pretty quick. I used it for 6 months before it suddenly started giving me bootloops which I think I caused by messing with xposed and my kernel. Overall, It has probably the best battery life and is the least volatile, but has little features and is outdated. Another thing to note is that I used ktoonez kernel with this so that maybe why battery life was better.

-Another rom that I used frequently, and am currently using is Fusion rom. Its ever so slightly more buggy, and you have to find your own gapps but still stable. Its also the fastest of the three IMO.

- The last custom rom you should look into is dirty unicorns. Its not that big so you proabably havent heard of it, but its just as stable as the sokp rom. It has alot more features though, and is still updated frequently. Has alotta bloat though for an aosp rom, as isn't particularly fast for a custom rom.

Long posts are the best posts! Anyway, the only reason I'm hesitant to try AICP is because it's CM based, and I had Bluetooth issues with the official CM. (I use Bluetooth every day for hours)
I think I'll try at least Fusion Rom, thanks for the insight! I'm hoping that SlimRoms will make a comeback and *hopefully* add support for our device. I used slim on a previous phone and it was phenomenal.

I tried many Roms and Kernels since I've got my OP5 about an week and a half ago.
First thing i was getting rid of the "buggy" official stock rom haha. I played with it for a vew hours and gave in. Than i was preparing everything for unlocking, rooting etc..etc... It was easier than i thought! Didn't expect it!
First ROM i flashed was an unreleased BETA build from a team i being part off. Just to getting used to this device and playing aLOT with an optimized Kernel (also an build by the Team Dev) after a vew days, i was trying other ROMs, i mean no Roms that where close or based on stock OOS. More based on AOSP and LOS.
After a couple of days, i found my right ROM and Kernel combination so i ended up with:
"RR Unofficial" with "Blu_Sparky" Kernel!
I like the debloated version of RR and the battery friendly and easy tunable Blu_Spark Kernel with EX Manager.
I get about 9-10 hours SOT, since I'm not an heavy multitasker or gamer. Besides that, i'm facing no errors, no random reboots, no screen blackouts, or whatsoever! It is for me the Stable Combination!
Currently I'm waiting for an Android 8 Build by the Team Dev. Which is also going to be an AOSP based Rom with "hopefully" aLOT of Optimizations!

My first ever Android device was a Nexus 6P, and I ran only Pure Nexus on it. I then moved to the Pixel XL, and also primarily ran Pure Nexus. After basically two years of running an AOSP based ROM, I had only good opinions on AOSP based ROMs.
Because development seemed a little tricky for Pixels, I decided to switch over to the OnePlus 5. I, then, flashed a handful of AOSP based ROMs, hoping I would receive the same stability, smoothness, and just the right amount of features Pure Nexus has.
The results didn't seem to be the same. I am by no means bashing on, hating, or criticizing any AOSP based ROM that is available for this device, but I personally just did not feel the same smoothness as I did on Pure Nexus. I decided to try LOS based ROMs, and the unofficial RR has by far been the best!
It's smooth, stable, and very snappy. There is one thing that "bugs" me though (excuse the pun lol):
The VPN icon doesn't hide, unless you disable and reenable something else in the SystemUI tuner. This workaround only lasts until you restart the phone, or even restart the SystemUI
Another thing worth noting (which isn't a bug), there are some unneeded apps that I have to manually uninstall with TitaniumBackup, such as the Music app, the file explorer, and the default phone and contacts app (among a couple others). Very small inconvenience and it's not enough to keep me away from the ROM lol.
Other than that, it's an amazing ROM, especially because it already comes with a custom kernel, and YouTube AdBlock/Background Playback!
Going back to the AOSP based ROMs, just to further reinforce that I'm not trying to bash these ROMs: OnePlus 5 is still a relatively new device, and development is probably still in its early stages; I'll definitely give those ROMs another try down the road, and see how my experience is then.
Also, I wasn't on those ROMs for too long, so maybe I just didn't allow the OS to "settle". Not sure if this is even a real thing, but I've heard other users mentioning letting a fresh install of an OS "settle" before truly making any critiques/comments.
As for OOS based ROMs, I was on stock for a very short amount of time, and I also tried xXx, both great ROMs (especially xXx). However,when you have as many features/customization options as RR has, it's hard to use anything OOS-based, especially because there is no full Substratum support (which is super important to me).

I used Nexus 6p before i bought the OP5 and I think OxygenOS is one of the best roms build by a hardware building company. After some months I started to switch my kernel because I had a little bit drain and started to read in Xda what could help and now I am at my best every day use combination and it is OOS plus blu_spark it works stable and I can underclock it easily because I am a light user: Browsing, WhatsApp and Phone call sometimes Maps that's all what I need and this combo lifts my usage to 2 full days. I am not an SOT guy so the lowest Screen Off Drain is my Must Have.

Just a quick update on my daily driver:
In my previous post I mentioned being on RR Unofficial, but since then I have switched to Pure Fusion!
As you know from my previous post, I'm a huge PureNexus fan and Pure Fusion is based on that, so I flashed it in a heartbeat.
That with the stock kernel has been amazing, as I feel it provides just the right amount of features I'll most likely be sticking to this ROM for as long as I own this device!

As far as I can tell, it's pretty much identical. The settings for the ROM have the same UI, very similar set of features; maybe just a little more than PureNexus!
It's also fast, smooth and stable like PureNexus as well

I'm on N as there is no O build available just yet. Signal is completely fine, but I believe there were a couple of users having issues with signal strength.
I've encountered no bugs or issues thus far. I did have random reboots but a clean flash seemed to have helped

But, in the last years all is going veeery silent. That's not surprising, i guess.
My 4X HD is already in daily use, too... and i am using X-Los13 201711 (last version with QR).
Alternative is AOSP Nougat 7.1.2 or CM13/MM 6.0.1 quite good (if you don't need QR).
But... i see, you already know that!
PS: My secret favorite was always SlimKAT 4.4.4 build 9 (after Rom, install the Cyodak-X3-Kernel (!)).

Devs were active at the peak of Kitkat era so our device has a wide variety of KitKat based roms. I've tried many rom+kernel combination back in the day. Now 4.4.4 become completely obsolete for me as some of my -must have- apps. forcing Android 5+.
I didn't try Slimkat 4.4.4 build 9 with Cyodak X3 though. I'll try it sometime for fun!
Latest CM13 is a performance monster. If I remember correct, it also has codec tweaks too. Allowing for better bitrate video recording and/or stereo sound on recorded videos. Main drawback is unstable.
AOSP 7.1.2 is the highest Android version available for our device but it's dull AOSP.
@oF2pks 's Linage is like a balanced medium. Performance is good and it's very stable for daily use. 30+ days runtime without rebooting is almost always possible.

Sorry for my very, very my late response.
Sometimes, i use my P880 vicarious for Navigation (or for Geo-Caching) and i had never problems with GPS.
Works fine for me.
I agree with you. But with X-LOS13 i noticed that when there are more and more apps on the smartphone, booting takes longer and longer (like 5 minutes) and also generally slows down. To counteract this, i've started sorting out apps that shouldn't be booted with a reboot (i.e. only run if you open them by yourself). With this I could e.g. reduce the boot time to 3 minutes. The disadvantage, however, it takes longer to start the app (because its not preset in RAM by booting).
PS: I loved SlimKat 4.4.4. Unfortunately, there are no new apps backwards compatible (SDK/API20).

I had to re-flash LOS13 several times from this reason too.
The last time however, I needed QR code so I flashed Euphoria 5.1.1 latest 20160208 and still using it.
Raised the max. CPU freq. to 1700 too. No signs of slow down yet.

I want to repair my old LG. The screen and touch are trashed and the battery is puffed. I found an almost free screen with LCD and battery and I'll repair it.
I remember I tried so many ROMs in this phone... The best performer was the Mourta's 4.4.4, but the battery consuption was bad. I ended up flashing the stock firmware 4.1.2, but it was still usable back in the day. Today is useless.
