T700 Tab S Standby Time! - Galaxy Tab S General

My Tablet lasts 2 days before its totally dead with ZERO USE!
Updated to 5.0.2 as i hoped this would fix it. No change
Lost 10% battery while in power saver mode in a few hours!
Lags all over the place when scrolling, the play store is horrible when scrolling apps.
Right now my S6 has better standby on 4G and more life in use than my tablet has with no use!
Any ideas?

Can't speak for Lollipop, since staying with 4.4.2 and disabled auto updates. I only lose 2% in ten hours and the best Android tablet I have owned- especially in regards to low sleep bleed.

clearly something is not right have you factory reset it? That would be the first thing to make sure no apps are doing anything weird.

I flashed a whole new OS... should i wipe it?

You need to install a wake-lock checker, it will show how much time your tablet is actually in deep sleep mode, which uses the least amount of power, mine shows 97% time in deep sleep.
Some application can keep you tablet from going to sleep, alarm clock and sync can also, and apps/software you downloaded.
Do you get still get major battery drain after a reset, dont install any software/apps and the charge to 100% and then leve it for a few hours and then check how much power you have lost.
John.

Over an 8 hour period (avg) with wifi on, my screen brightness set to 10-20 range (that is the brightness I prefer on my tab s), and with greenify I lose maybe 1-2% battery. You definitely have some program or service constantly running or waking up your tablet, and due to the interactive governor that samsung uses your tablet wakes up at 1.9GHz each time to be more responsive/save battery by handling what ever is needed as fast as possible so it can sleep again. Unfortunatly if some app keeps going "hey, hey, I am here, I need you tablet, hey, hey, ect........." that battery saving governor will murder your battery.

So i wiped and its still 48 hour batter!

Battery %bleed
Losing around 30% battery over night idle.

Do you need to have your wifi and sync on for business or something, if not turn them off, of use an app to to mange them like the free juice defender ect.
Just install it, make sure it is enabled and then make sure the icon is on your taskbar so it has not been killed, and them forget about it for a week and see how it goes.

for some reason on this tablet, wifi murders battery in standby. if you turn it off it lasts much better... but this tablet and this tablet only, leaving wifi on kills it horribly. but problem is, when you wake it for teh first time in hours and wifi activates, all of a sudden everything syncs and it's so damn laggy those first few minutes of use. it sucks. only this tablet. never had this issue with my nexus 7. that thing gave me 7 days stand-by time.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk.

Try putting your tablet in airplane more overnight and see how much power it consumes. I lose 3% over 8 hours when I put it on airplane mode and disable wifi.

Im sorry but this is BS.
Its clearly faulty. its going to samsung. i demand a refund.

How much power wifi uses depends on the distance to the router and how much interference it has to try and break though to get a good connection which means using more power, that is why wifi uses more battery power on some peoples tablets than others do.
John.

disregard.. just realized my screen shots were messed up. I'll post my standby time tomorrow.

Here is a very simple stock no root mini guide to getting 1-5% loss over an 8-10 hour period while sleeping or at least while the tablet is asleep.
1. Install greenify even if you are not rooted and even if you do that have the donor package there are many many apps that do not like to sleep, greenify will fix that for you.
2. Unless you are a Doctor, CEO, or someone whose very life hangs on getting the latest cute cat post while you are asleep try to adjust your sync times from under an hour to as high as you can. (If you are turning off wifi then it might still matter if the app wakes up your device just to see it can't sync)
3. Samsung has given you a very nice QHD screen. It is high resolution, Amoled, and other nice rhings but while you sleep you can not see it so turn the brightness down before you touch the power button to 5-15. If you wake up in a dark room and need to use your tablet that level of brightness is far kinder to your eyes and even kinder to your battery.
Just doing this generally kept my battery usage down to only 2-4% per night, of course then I rooted my tablet and installed TW detox 3.0 and now it is closer to 1-2% per night. Try any or all of these and I hope it works out.

losing 48% per day... screen brightness wont help will it when screen is off all day

Screen brightness is for those times that an app wakes up the tablet and turns on the screen to tell you something (new email, facebook wall post, new cat video, ect....) and yes it helps.
If you are losing 48% a day then you have some app doing something that is keeping your tablet awake for a good portion of the day. Or you have a defective battery/tablet. I can surf the web for a good portion of the day and maybe lose 48%.

Are you rooted. It's sounds like you have some wakelocks? If rooted you should use greenify and a wakelock alarm to fix the problem.

i'm curious to see what apps and how many you have installed. Can you post screen shots of your app drawer?

what email apps and cat video watching apps are you using that turn the screen on? no app that I have EVER turns my screen on at all. the only app that does that is on my phone, and it's from textra, an sms app that isn't on my tablet.

Battery not so good

I didn't use the note much, but it needs to charge each day. This is bad than tablet. Any software to save battery? I tried 'air plane mode' sofeware, but it also turns off phone after sleep.

What apps and widgets are you running? Have you gone through 2 or 3 full discharge/recharge cycles? There are apps out there that can detect if any app is consuming your battery but you will have to search the forums as I don't know of any first hand.
Also, which ROM are you using? When I was using Rocket Rom v22 with AbyssKernel 4.1, my Note would last more than a day on the same charge even with moderate use. Give that a try as it also really boosts performance.
I'm currently on Team Rocket Rom (ICS based) v5 but have not used it extensively to comment on battery yet. So far with 3 activesync email accounts (all push), some widgets running (weather, clock, etc.) and the Note sitting idle consume about 2-3% battery per hour. Will monitor this.
most smartphones ned to be charged every day, what battery life are you expecting to get ?
battery depends on the usage and applications you installed on the phone.
have you tried rooting already? usually custom roms have the best alternatives of extending your phone's battery and giving it an optimal performance.
Try to stop some bloatwares that your phone's loading up everytime it starts up(from rebooting)

I am using la2 rom. Here i attached an picture.
Geez... i personally feel that one day charge is reasonable especially with the juice required to drive the big display.
Anyway, Juice Defender premium is one app that has helped me, and may help you too.
Since you got Activesync, with the premium version of JD, you can customize app to be excluded from 'power saving', so that the inbox is up to date.
+1 for juicedefender.
Other tips that may not be obvious to first-time smartphone owners are:
1. Set your screen brightness to auto. You don't need the brightness cranked right up all the time.
2. Disable bluetooth and GPS if you're not using them. Juicedefender will do a pretty good job of managing your other radios.
3. If you've got email syncing set up on your phone, set it to check as rarely as you can put up with. Push email uses a LOT of battery life, and even a scheduled check can blaze through your battery if it's happening often enough.
4. If you've put on a custom ROM your phone may be reporting inaccurate battery stats. Give it a full charge, boot into clockwork recovery and wipe your battery stats. You'll find a few days after that your phone will start reporting more accurately.
Good luck, and if any of this was unclear feel free to ask further questions.

Try a later ROM to see if the same issue exists. I think you should instal rocket rom v22 - you'll be happy with performance and battery life based on your usage.
try to calibrate your battery as well... there are many apps out there that offers better battery calibration or you can do a manual calibration as well.
Give it some time and upgrade your ROM
I am getting great battery life. It runs for full day (24 hrs) with 30% of battery usage. though in a day i dont use it much, just 5 to 10 calls of around half an hour to 40 minutes.. data and gps always on.. screen brightness on auto...
My note running the OEM battery last me about 6 hrs.
Averages about 45mins talk time/day
About 50 SMS/day
Screen brightness set to 100
Checks email every 5 mins
Using a live wallpaper
Refreshes the daily weather using Accuweather every hr
Bluetooth always turned on
Battery Widget
Fancy Widget
ESPN scoreboard ticker widget refreshes
Twitter running all day
Facebook Widget syncing all day
and more...

^ This. Or better yet, just always set your brightness to the lowest brightness setting, 50% afaik. And use black/dark wallpapers and always turn on night mode (if applicable, especially when using your browser)
If in case you need to adjust the brightness, you don't have to go through the jungle of settings, just click notification bar and slide horizontally to change to your preferred brightness.
Jd is hit n miss will actually helping out. If your phone sleeps a lot jd is nice at keeping cell or wifi off if your like me and on it every 10 minutes then toggling data and other things can consume more juice. .... I have tried with and without on my tablets and phones and see no big difference depending on use.

I was pretty happy with my battery until two days ago. I use my note very little, for e-mail checking (which I pull manually) a few times a day, and to make two or three phone calls per day. I also text my kids occasionally. GPS and Bluetooth are off most of the time. Battery used to last me about two and a half days under these conditions, which seemed reasonable to me. All of a sudden, two days ago, I charged my battery, and after a full charge it drained 60% overnight. Thought that it was a fluke, so rebooted my phone, fully charged again, and the same thing (over half of the juice gone overnight) happened again. Battery stats tell me that Android OS were 100% responsible for overnight drainage. Any clues? I am on stock ROM, by the way.
Thank you.

Get a good app to check what is using the battery or keeping the phone awake. This last is the most likely.
Baddass Battery Monitor is my recommendation.
Not a single phone call, only used about 10 mins. after 21 hours only 11% left. Install Jd with 'balanced' option.

Badass, got to love that name....
Ok, I used the Badass monitor to see what's going on. Once again, no phone usage, quick overnight battery drainage. Android OS 100% responsible, and the main power sucker is the Kernel (96%). Why is this happening? And, is there a remedy? I have changed nothing that would trigger this! My Note is still within the return window, so if there is anything wrong with it, I will return it.
Thanks again.

Badass Monitor is very useful, my note was drained by Dolphin Browser, it used 38% of battery. Seems like for this browser, if I only press home key to exit, It will keep running?
I think the reason the battery drain fast is we press 'home' key to return to main menu, that will keep a lot of apps run in the background.

Battery life significantly improved after installing Auto3G *honest*

Hooray yet another Battery thread!!
Feel free to shoot me down or close the thread and ban me if people find this not useful but I though I'd share..
I'm running AOKP PUB with Matrix 8.5 on my N4 and battery on WIFI was great but once I switched to H+/3G I would see an increase in wakelocks and hence battery drain. I'm sure more than a few people can relate to this problem..
after 9 hours from unplugging my phone, going to and from work and arriving back home I would have about 75-70% battery left with light use. Now after installing Auto3G from the play store I am going home with between 88-85% left which is making a massive difference to how long my device lasts,
Typically I'm getting 2 days standby and between 4-4.5 hours data/WIFI and at the weekends 5-5.5 hours on just WIFI.
The app simply turns data off when the screen is off then on again when you wake your phone up and it will turn data on every 30 minutes for 1 minute so your apps and accounts can sync. I have try apps like this before on other phones but this one has impressed me, plus its free! I haven't felt like I'm missing out on fresh content from my widgets or accounts because the syncing seems to actually work. You can set delays on when the data switches off too!
Anyways, here's the link..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slv3r.auto3g&hl=en
Best thing I have done to draw out my battery life is to disable location services and then reboot. This alone has given me an extra hour of screen on time. I used to struggle to get to 3 hours and now I am getting over 4.

Are you doing it just to get max longevity or are you guys really struggling to make it through a day? Mine has been excellent, best battery life of a smartphone I have had since my old Windows Mobile days.
best and most visible boost for battery life is turning off the localisation and dimming the screen
I wasn't losing any sleep over battery life, my N4 has always lasted at least a day but I was a little disappointed with how long a charge was lasting me on H+/3G compared to WIFI. Now I have no complaints on either..
"When the user unlocks the phone, data will be enabled.
When user locks the phone, data will be disabled."
Sounds a lot like Juicedefender that's been around for a long time. I'm sure its good for some people, but kind of defeats the point of having a smartphone. Especially for me when most of my messaging is through Whatsapp / Facebook.
I used to use juice defender and I found that it became too complicated for its own good. You can change the syncing interval but I agree if you do you messaging through FB or WA then its probably not for you. I dont really use either often so the 30 minute cycle works well for me and maybe others..
Its not really defeating having a smartphone since its saving you battery when your not using you phone, its stupid to have the thing draining away when it's just in your pocket..
i'm using this app on my N4 too and have to confirm that works like a clock, simple and light but powerfull as let you choose when turn data on and for how many minutes, how much to wait before turn data off after shut down the screen and when to turn it on after the screen goes on...
if you want to make the battery to last longer it's a very good app...btw i think N4 has a decent battery that can drive you till the end of the day without problems
I just have a Tasker profile to run my data sync once every 2 hours or if I open up Gmail or anything else that needs to sync. This cuts down on the constant notifications when my phone is idle. I haven't noticed a big difference with leaving my phone on auto brightness of if I just turn down brightness manually.

[Q] Is my battery broken?

Hey I have just bought HTC One 2 days ago. Compared to my old Sensation XE battery life completly sucks. I usually use phone without battery saver, on auto brightness and with Wi-Fi/3g turned on only on demand. Today 8 hours after unplugging phone from the charger I only have 26%. Screen was turned on for 2 hours and 45 minutes only and Wi-Fi worked for 3 hours and 46 mins. I might also say that I did not charge my One before usage to 100% as HTC advised. Was that very crucial? Do you think that phone might be broken or I should just give him time to settle baterry better.
That's sounds like what I get. I turn off mobile data when using WiFi and vice versa. I always use power saver unless I'm 3D gaming. Which is only on the weekends.
I've had mine for 3 months now.
I've seen people get 7:00 screen time on stock unrooted.
I think my battery's broken too. I can barely reach 3 hours of screen time. With 2 hours I get like 11 maybe 12 hours of on time. Something's wrong with our phones...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your battery stats seem on par with me and the OP. Seems that only a select few phones get decent battery life.
My kernel (android os) has been in the 25-35% range,it has never been that high before.
battery life lousy
I get pretty horrible drain too. I charged it to nearly full around 7:30 last night. I took about 2 minutes of video, sent one text, and checked my email 3 times. After that I went to sleep and the phone sat idle. At 6:30 this morning, I'm down to 9%.

Wow, that's real bad.. When my phone is off during night maybe 7% is gone. Then again I'm rooted and use greenify aswell as battery doctor if that has any affect.
On screen time seems like my battery drains pretty fast too though. After 2 hours of music and surfing and watching videos I guess atleast 40% would be gone.
My battery life became horrible, too. My phones loses 4% per unused hour. No App seems to be responsible for that drain. Flightmode or powersaving mode ain't making a difference. I hope we'll find a solution for our drain.

@Racingmatt your power management services is on for quite a bit. do you have alarms.? i would bet that you either that maps location enabled or something of the sort. cause you also have NLPcollector on for around 40 minutes which is a bit much. also i would turn off GPS if your not actively using it.
@Rachorid how are you setting up your wifi? is it set to always be on? or set to turn off when screen off? you have alot of wifi wake. might be due to that. i know when i'm at home my wifi actively pings all devices connected which will force wake up my phone. yea its a bit annoying but i live with it. otherwise i just keep my phone plugged in.
if you both can get some SS of alarms i can give you a better idea. and when you SS the alarms make sure to click on the ones with the most wake lock so i can see the secondary screen that shows what the actual wakelock command is happening.

Here are the latest stats. As you can see many Google wakes.. removing Maps/Now/GMail/turning of Location (a few days ago) had no impact on my drain. The 2nd app on Partial Wakelocks was used actively.
I also disabled Wifi for about 2 hours.. no impact, too. Flightmode also had no impact (a few days ago).

I had awesome battery life a month ago with Wifi always on, auto. brightness and every app on hourly sync. (I have my phone since 7th of march) Sometimes I didn't lost a percent over night (8 hours) and I just don't know what it could be because I didn't install another app and no app seems to be responsible for that stanby drain. My on-screen battery life is still good. It also doesn't matter which ROM or kernel I'm using.
Here is my latest stats after 12 hours with 5 minutes of GPS use (turned off when not using)and network location on all the time with 3g/4g on all the time(turns off after a period of inactivity) . I can't give you a alarm stat because I'm not rooted.
Lithium-Ion batteries used in today's smartphones need atleast 10 cycles to show optimum power
so hold on until 2 weeks then you will get the full performance
i get 2 days of battery on my HTC One (since i dont have internet on my Simcard)
its 2G connection and auto Brightness and switched bloatwares off
i use Android Revolution HD 12.2

At my wits end with my Note5's battery. Please help!

Hey everyone!
I got my Note5 near launch day. I love everything about it, except the battery life.
Basically, I am not satisfied. I barely make it through the day with moderate usage. The crux of my problem is idle/standby battery drain.
This has been a problem for me ever since I got my Note5 and even for some of my old phones (M8 on Lollipop).
The Issue: I'm fine with how the battery drains when I'm actively using it. I'm not going to go into much detail about that, but I'm satisfied with how fast I seem to be killing the battery while using it. The part I'm not satisfied with is how much the battery drains when I'm not using the phone. Obviously, this must be an issue with wakelocks. When you look at the screenshot below for Android OS, it is always wake for more than 2.5+ hours in a 15 hour usage period. Now, I'm not sure if that's normal anymore. I don't remember how it was on KK, nor do I know if that's what everyone else is getting.
The Issues Cont: So yeah I have massive idle drain. (I estimated that I get about 1.5-1.6% battery drain per hour. I charged my phone up to 100% and let it sit idle overnight for a span of about 8 hours or so. It went from 100 to 91 during that time). What this means for me is that, I can use my phone less and less because while it sits in my phone, it dies quickly! On GSam, it shows that my battery discharged 38% while the screen was off! Again, I don't know if this is 'normal'. What is everyone else getting?
What I tried: I tried factory resetting. Nope. I tried reflashing the firmware, factory resetting. Nope. I booted into safe mode and left it idle overnight. Still dropped to about 92% or so, IIRC. I actually had the GS6 Edge before the Note5, but I returned it because of the ****ty battery life. Then I inserted my S-pen backward and broke the sensor in the Note5, so I got a replacement. For each instance, I always got crappy battery life. So I am doubting that this is a hardware issue. I tried minimizing the apps installed so minimize wakelocks, but it didn't seem to help.
What I want: Honestly, I just want to be able to use my phone and have it not drain so much while it's in my pocket or on the desk. I want to be able to go into a lecture for a few hours and come out with maybe 1% drain, not 3% or 4%. And I want to do this without rooting. I don't want to trip Knox, and I'm tired of rooting and spending hours tinkering with my phone to get decent battery life.
Attachments: I uploaded screenshots of almost everything I thought would be pertinent. Please have a look and hopefully we can compare results and figure out whether this is normal for a Note5 or not!

Thanks everyone!
I reckom its something you are downloading is doing it. Add one app at a time and see what it does.

Yes there is something keeping your device awake. Rogue app. First guess would be that Facebook messenger app. Look in settings for your running applications, try to limit those to ones you absolutely need using package disabler. If you don't know what's OK to disable, read through the debloating guidelines thread.

Hey everyone!
I got my Note5 near launch day. I love everything about it, except the battery life.
Basically, I am not satisfied. I barely make it through the day with moderate usage. The crux of my problem is idle/standby battery drain.

Never let Facebook or Games run in the background and MOST IMPORTANTLY disable location services completely. Keep it on a toggle and turn it off until you need it. Always keep it off or Google will ping your location once every minute. It literally halves battery life.

I don't have the Official Facebook app installed.. And I almost always keep location services off, but the battery still drains as it does..
Use the smart manager app to stop certain apps from running in background and restrict background data for apps that don't need it in the mobile data settings.

My battery is amazing and I can say this as I am a battery guru and have spent countless hours trying to squeeze all the juice out of my devices, which includes eliminating wake locks. If you had root you could figure it out, without root you'll have to start un installing apps 1 at a time until it get's better. Also check your exchange accounts.
I assure you something is wrong as my battery life is the best of any phone I've had.

This probably won't be helpful at all as it is a complete shot in the dark, but perhaps you have an app that is trying to get your location continually since you have it off? Maybe try leaving location on. I never turn it off and I've been getting very good battery life on my T-mobile Note 5.

I also tried leaving location on as well. I can't really see an improvement as well. I actually only recently kept location off.

Note 5 bad battery life gsam?

Hey guys , i am using this phone for the last one week and so far i am not impressed with its battery life.its almost similar to my xperia z1.
I lost over 24% battery in the past 2 hours just listening to music and surfing a bit.
Please have a look at my gsam screenshot and tell me if something is wrong.
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thank you.
Friend, take sshot from you apps usage and screen. Add sshot from stock battery manager too.
Thanks for your interest in my post.
I have attached the necessary screenshots.
I was having 3-3.5 hours of sot with my 2 years old xperia z1 and almost same with my note5 .
Not happy at all.
Today i left my phone at 41% went to lunch and returned after 90 mins and found battery left is 30% doing absolutely nothing.
Just taking the sshots and posting it here used 4% battery!!!!
Is something wrong?
11pm to 7pm off charge....looks fine to me!
I come off charge at 6am and it generally lasts to 8/9pm without a mid day charge.
Your screen is a big hog. Is brightness set too high constantly?
I don't play games but you clearly do - clash of clans....again another drain.
Big screen = big battery usage!
I've resorted to plugging mine in while I'm sat at my desk for a few mins here and there.
MM is poor though. The deep sleep / doze seems to work randomly.

Yeah i get your point
Brightness is about40% and i do play coc frequently
But my concern is suddenbattery drain. 11 % drain during lunch doing nothing and now 3% drain just opening xda and replying to your comment
Is that normal?
Also screen awake is almost 2 hours doesnt seem like doze is working
Check any apps you've recently installed....or start in safe mode and see if the problem continues.
Clear cache....
I've set up a greenify process - when I tap the home key on the home screen it puts it into deep sleep. I don't think MM doze works very reliably. Also my screen is at about 20%. Can easily whack it up when you go outside temporarily.

I have used 2 full days with just whatsapp and stock apps installed still the problem persists.
Please look at the sshot ,2 hr 14 min sot is absolutely ridiculous
Try the following:
- Uninstall Facebook
- Amplify
- Greenify
Has helped my Note-5 battery life greatly.

An App to control how often your wakelock & alarms fire off - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryansteckler.nlpunbounce
Also, worthwhile alternative = Servicely (need to be rooted) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.servicely
Try de-bloat script too by Battlehero.
Its funny how you and i used to own a z1 lol what a coincident. Anyways i think i commented about your battery life before. Regarding to the amplify im mot sure if op has root. I suggest you not to root if you want to exchange it saying its a defective battery.if not then go for it root it and see if it will change your battery stats. Pretty normal things to do is factory reset , boot in safe mode, maybe reflash firmware through odin and check any mysterious apps draining battery. Also maybe try greenify non root way for afressive doze. It shortens the time needed before going into doze mode. Im currently testing it right now.
