New OTA update on June 2nd - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

I'm receiving it now (regular S6 owners claiming the same too)!
It is still 5.0.2 just the memory leak/performance/fingerprint/etc fixes and enhancements as well as the promised rotation fix.
Unfortunately when I click "Learn more online" it doesn't do anything (yet).

Same here, but I can't figure out how to take screen shots. Rooted so all I can do is upload it. Where does samsung download otas to, same as HTC?

Does this update kill root?

No idea yet. It's about 272 mb. If it isn't uploaded by tonight I'll upload it when I get home.
Coming from an HTC M7 that was rooted and s-off with an unlocked bootloader, how can we install the update if rooted, other than Odin back and risk no root after?

I believe if we get 5.1 then it will kill root, this update just bug fixes. I will wait till we get a rooted update.

I was willing to test if taking the OTA would break root. Unfortunately I've tried twice to take the update but it keeps failing. Not sure if I have something frozen that is causing the installation failure.

If you are rooted, you will get the ota. You will not odin back to stock in order to get the ota.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I downloaded the OTA fine, it just fails when it tries to install. I'm not using odin.

so how would we get the update? wait for a rooted version?

Took the OTA and it does kill root. I tried both the beta 5.1 and the beta 6 versions.

It may only temporarily kill root, the app will have to be uploaded to include the new firmware model. .. it may be slow to get updated, since I have seen pingpongroot updated in a week

I just got a notification from AT&T for a new update. Anyone know anything about it?

@deepen915, are you going to try rooting this?
Android central has an article on it here:
AT&T Galaxy S5 receiving 142MB update with security fixes, interface improvements http://www.androidcentral.com/att-g...-update-security-fixes-interface-improvements
Mostly just looks like bug fixes. I bet it breaks root though.

Can someone grab the ota and post it? It can be modified to update w/out breaking root.
Why so quick to update? Is the system that unstable on the s5?
Risk your root for a little security fix and stability. I think not. Why not just ask a dev if they can get you current rom stable with a update made by someone not trying to screw you around...... ATT.......
A guy in the comments, on the Android Central post about this update, said that he took the OTA and it did not break root.
I'm still kind of scared to do it though.

I tried to update...and it failed after rebooting. Not sure if it is because of root. I have nothing else customized... I think.
I am aware that G900F NF/NG firmware enables VoLTE in S5. Not sure if the NG firmware for G900A does that also.
Got this from att.

I think it will too. It's just that this guy claims that he updated while being rooted and still has root after the update. Maybe he's trying to pull a fast one on us.
I'm running Dynamic Kat anyway, so there is no way I'm taking a chance at not being able to flash safe strap again.
Can I have someone dump the modem? Thanks.

Hit the check update on my S5 Active this morning and to my surprise its pulling a 1434.38 MB Download. Looks like us Active users are finally getting the update!
As exciting as it is...if you value your root access DON'T install this yet! As it stands now, Once your on the L bootloader their's no going back. Give the dev's some time to sort it out first

I think so but you have to be bone stock to do it...hence no traces of prior root. Otherwise it fails to update.

I'm bone stock and don't care for root. It took 4-5 hours to download and install the update. I had to clear room first too, before it would actually install.
However, my Active is much zipper than it ever was, and that's including the ****ty 4.4.4 update which brought it to a slow crawl.

As Sam said, you're going to have to either do a full wipe and Odin back to stock or wait and update through flashing fire. Also root may not work after the update so you may want to hold off if you want to keep it, unless you're cool with being a guinnie pig [emoji4]
Good luck with root also if this is 5.1.1 update you know they probably patched the exploit.
Pull the downloaded file and upload a link so everyone has it please.
How is this being pushed out by AT&T? No release news or info from them yet from what I've been able to determine. Would be great if you could grab the files and share so DEV's could pull it apart for us.
What software version are you on now? I doubt that it's 5.1.1.

I believe the OTA files are stored on /Cache section in the phone. You will need root access and something like File Explorer to access /Cache partition. You should be able to copy and move it to SD card so you can plug in a USB and download to a computer, then to dropbox or fileshare.
I dont know if it told you the file name, but you are looking for the 235.96MB file in that folder.

If you're not having issues with what your on I personally wouldn't bother. It still has all the same issues.
Well, I set the date to December and I got this:
I also got it to trigger the arrows in upper left, with a toast message saying connecting to 'DM Server"

Ota 4.25.651.18

Got a prompt for an update to patch the stagefright vulnerablity, but it says it also includes bug fixes, performance and stability improvements and added features.
I doubt its 5.1, I'll have to RUU to stock to take it, but wanted to ask if anyone already did.

OTAs will never reverse S-OFF, at least I have never heard of one doing so....I guess technically it could, but HTC does not have a history of doing that. You have to enter a specific fastboot cmd to go back to S-ON

Moto X 2nd Gen is affected by 'Quadrooter', How to Fix?

'Quadrooter' flaws affect over 900 million Android phones
Moto X 2nd gen is vulnerable to the Quadrooter according to this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.checkpoint.quadrooter
Since Motorola never released any security patch and Moto X is out of their future OS update program, what are the options left for the existing Moto X 2nd gen users who want to stick with stock ROM and don't want to part with their Moto X any time soon?
i allready check with Quad Rooter Scan and its possitive the mobile had the 4 vulnerabilities.....the only solution is go to cm13 ....for the moment when the patch is out go back to stock. I hope it will be soon, the news is everywhere so Qualcom has to do something.
I received a security update zip this morning. Unfortunately, I haven't posted enough on XDA to be able to include a link to it. Maybe someone will put it up for everyone.
I would love to have a version of it that I can flash while rooted. I'm not really looking forward to reverting to stock and doing that whole mess...

You mean a official patch by Motorola or from any other source?
Running CM13 here. Still vulnerable to CVE-2016-2504 & CVE-2016-5340 !!

I got it too, it's official. Couldn't install it because I was rooted, removed stock apps and installed TWRP.

I had a tough time because I couldn't find the 6.0 system files. Are they available anywhere?
I've also been getting nagged about a security update. I'm rooted so I've been ignoring it. If it's important I'd also like to see a version that's flashable while rooted.

How to apply it on stock non-rooted device?

Put it on your internal storage and reboot to recovery. Select apply update from sdcard (or something like that). This will only work if you are truly stock with no modifications to the system partition.

Thanks, I was also thinking about that option in recovery if it will work, but never tried so was skeptical.
One more thing, if I update through this route then will my stock phone will turn into 'modified' one or will remain stock? Will there be any problem in case some OTA arrives?
This should leave you 100% stock

Received a security update today. Not sure if it fixes this bug.
