Lollipop root problem(s) - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Background info:
1) Rooted my Xperia Z lollipop 5.0.2 with king root
2)phone is unlocked bootloader(or what ever it's called, I checked with the service config)
3) Got no idea about rooting aha
Problem 1: Can't change kingroot to SuperSU. I followed the method I thread used but it said something about not being mounted properly on the terminal and before it said I have to install busy box
Problem 2: I'm trying to enter recovery mode so I can install the zip file for xposed frameworks. I'm using XZrecovery and it says to install busybox. I did that(I downloaded busynox and busybox installer) for busybox, I tried the smart install but it said it wouldn't install. I tried busybox installer and I still didn't install (said something like its compatitable for this edition ). This is for TWRP recovery that I saw on youtube
3) Problem 3
I can't enter recovery mode normally by pressing the power and volume up . it just vibrates 4 times and doesn't turn on
So yeah I need help with those problems. I tried looking through the forums but they are all so weird and complicated
Sorry I'm really new to all of this

What was the version of Kingroot that you used?

I loaded kingroot and on the loading screen it said 4.0.5

try this method ( if you haven't already) and use the kingroot apk on the attachment ( version 4.1.0)...and remember uninstall the one you already have 1st

[ROOT] SGP312 FTF 10.3.1.C.0.136 Root (No need OTA)

Hi
I have tested the root tool from China forum. My device is SGP312 WIFI 32GB 10.3.1.C.0.136. No need to unlocked.
Download the attachment and install. One click and then it will reboot. It is rooted!
But the root-mangement software is Chinese. You can download Supersu or Superuser.
Use the Chinese root software to give Supersu or Superuser root access.
Run Supersu or Superuser and upgrade the binary. Exit and uninstall the Chinese root software.
Reboot. Then you are rooted with Supersu or Superuser.
This is the original link: http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
incredible...works on sgp321 .244......good job....juat install supersu afterwards and remove the chinese app....greatttttt
Good! I can confirm it works, just rooted my still locked SGP311FR with it.
What I don't like it's an exe file, install the app then run it to root.
If someone can extract the script and replace the root apk by superSU it would be cool.
Also I noticed while rooting my tablet that the screen became white two times (really fast for less than a second, sort of blink) like the Display tricks that were used before to root our xperia's.
Anyway thanks.
Btw : @insideccw posting a link to the source, and maybe the name of the autor of this tool, would be better if it's not your own tool.

That might be the exploit that is accessing the framebuffer causing it.
works like a charm on my sgp351 lte 16gb .244, recomended, thans for the post
Also working with Xperia sp

I tried this with my 312, but upon removing the chinese superuser with Titanium-backup, i could no longer use Superuser or SuperSU from the play-store. Any insight on to what exactly you guys went about this? I have reset using PC Companion.
Word fine With 4.2.2 thx a lot

I think you need to install the alternative superuser app before deleting the Chinese one. I used superuser by chainsdd on my sp

works great...thanks
That's pretty much what I did. I've tried SuperSU, superuser, and the cwm app. The problem seems to be that the updated binaries don't "stick", SuperSU claimed updating was a success but then prompted me to do so every time I opened it.

I don't know if the info in this thread may be of any use : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539711.
Specifically in the OP :
Remember, if you remove older first without installing newer one, you will lose Root n newer won't run.
One more thing market version will be regular application, so hard reset can delete it. So better install with flashable zip, to make it system application.
And in Post #8 :
Confirmed working fine! Recommended to install via CWM. It will replace the other (superuser) automatically so you don't have to manually remove it.
I used the above zip file and instructions a long time ago on my Galaxy S....but it may still be relevant for Tablet Z.
What I've been doing us installing from the play store, updating binaries, and then removing the Chinese app. Once I do that, I lose root in the market superSU and other root apps.
I'll probably end up unlocking the boot loader and flashing an image over adb.
Thanks for the help!
bugger
That is because you dont have /system r/w access.

It worked for me...I accidentally removed the Chinese app.
1. I did a reroot again.
2. installed dualrecovery and flashed the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip.
3. It works now.
Supersu and cwm superuser caused my phone to go in a reboot loop when I tried updating the binaries. Superuser by ChainsDD is working fine though.

insideccw,
Any tips on how t go about correcting this? Would I need to use adb or can I handle this form within android?
EDIT: Looks like others are having the same issue.
Doesn't work with SGP321 LTE tablet (on the newest firmware .244)
1. in order to uninstall the chinese root app one needs to have SuperSu
2. once you install SuperSU the root checker shows "OK, you're rooted"
3. once you get rid of the chinese root the root checker shows "you're NOT rooted" and the SuperSU binaries can't get updated (strange it needs another update)

For those of you having this issue as I was, I just got mine to work with SuperSU. Hopefully these steps will work for you too:
-Gain root with the magical Chinese root tool
-install SuperSU
-update SuperSU binaries
-in SuperSU settings, choose "Switch superuser app"
-reboot the tablet and immediately go to the playstore and install SuperSU
-update SuperSU binaries
Let me know if it works!

Lost Root!!!

Hello!
Already got iHackers 2.0 + .290-kernel running (complete installed system) on rooted Z1 (C6903)!
Wanted to grant some apps SuperSu-permission and wanted to check within SuperSu which apps already got granted SuperSu-permissions. SuperSu showed up a message: binary must be updated! So I checked update normal way but install/download failed!
So I've searched www and found that someone mentioned to another guy (got same problem) to download Chainfire 1.51-flashable-SuperSu and this guy mentioned: flash in recovery and do update later on!
I tried and now ROOT HAS GONE!
Is it possible to use KingoRoot now again to get Root-permission back without loosing something (data, dual-recovery, xposed-stuff which is already installed, ...)?
How am i able to get binary for SuperSu up-2-date?
Thanks,
DES75

I got the pro version of SuperSu which fixed that binary problem for me.. As always make a back up of everything just in case. As far as I'm aware you do not have to factory reset or wipe data to root with KingoRoot.
Try it, otherwise I'd personally just go through the procedure again (and wipe data if needed) to get the root back. If you make a back up, it won't be a problem. Just a little time.
Hi!
Do have Pro-Version, too, but SU-Binary will not be updated! So I do need a way to get that SU-Binary updated without loosing Root, ...!

Strange, I had exactly the same message. Firstly have you got Busybox Installed? Try installing this then updating again.
I'm researching it, a lot of other threads saying you may need to reroot to get it working, but try the above first.

[Q] Xposed wont install on rooted Xperia

I rooted my device (Sony Xperia Z Ultra) with the EasyRoot_Tool_V9 and got the following problem:
copy Xposed...
Mount /system writable...
mount: permission denied
/system couldnt be mounted writable
Try to continue
Whats the matter? Why cant I mount /system writable? The root checker says that the device is rooted.
Did you gave xposed root access? Check it with supersu/any other root app
Did you try the alternate methods?
Gesendet von meinem GT-N7000 mit Tapatalk
Yeah, it has root access in SuperSU. Wanted to post a screenshot but cant link under 10 posts.
What are the alternate methods?
I think my root got a problem as i cant set /system to r/w even with the root explorer. But how can that be?
You can choose another installation method. Its just underneath the normal method. Try that one.

I have an Xperia Z1 just updated it to 4.4.4 like 2 hours ago . I updated it from 4.4.2 where i had root , xposed installed and a few modules .
After the update i had to root the device again (using towellroot) . After i did that it said that i did not have the latest version .
Uninstalled all the modules , uninstalled SuperSU and uninstalled xposed and reinstalled them all again . Now super SU cannot update binaries and i get a message in xposed when trying to install it (as in the screen shots) . Root checker says i'm rooted so i have no idea what i can do .
Any help is apreciated !

I have managed to fix my issue . I have flashed , in my case ,the xperia z1 4.4.4 update using flashtool erasing everything , re rooted the phone with towellroot and after that everything worked fine . SU installed just fine and Xposed installed just fine . I think something went wrong when i rooted the phone the first time after the update .
I have the same issue. I have Z1 compact with 4.4.4, rooted, but with bootloader locked.
I've granted Xposed Installer root rights with Super SU v2.01. XposedBridge.jar is active, but app_process is not.
Didn't get it working with classic nor recovery instalation method. Any idea?
Seems that my device was not completly rooted. After rooting again, it works

[SOLVED] Safe to continue?? or start again? please help

This is driving me nuts... I was on 5.1.1 and I am trying to get it rooted.
I'm following a guide which goes like this..
1. downgrade to kitkat 4.4 using flashtool
2. root 4.4
3. Install custom recovery
4. Flash 5.1.1 pre-rooted zip
I have had problem after problem and I think something may have screwed up along the way.
I finally managed to get kitkat installed using flashtool and a generic C6903 .108 ftf.
Problem 1... I used 'Easy Root tool' from xda to root kitkat... but it seemed to hang at the cleaning up' stage - is this a problem?
Problem 2... every time I restart my phone - kitkat asks what language etc. Whats that all about?
PROBLEM 3. The guide Im following says to install busybox after rooting kitkat.
I've tried 2 different busybox installers and both of them fail when trying to install bb.
QUESTION: Are these 3 problems linked and will it prevent me from continuing with the guide I am trying to follow??? i.e. do I need busybox to install XZ Dual Recovery and therefore a pre-rooted zip?
Root Checker basic says kitkat is rooted, as does the first busybox installer.
I'm taking a short break from this nightmare, so in the meentime if any of you chaps could advise me on whether or not its ok to continue or if I have fecked up the whole process, that would be great.
Thanks in advance
problem 1 : re run the installer again, don't use administrator mode
problem2 : use any simcard on your phone
others, sorry i have no idea, you could download busybox from playstore ?
I would just start over and try a different root program. busybox is failing to install because the root didn't work.

Cheers bud, I'll try 'easy root tool' once more without admin priv, if its the same story I'll start over and try a different root tool. Any suggestions on that?
Also: how come root checker says I'm all good and rooted but busybox wont install? even one of the busybox installers says "Your device is rooted"!?!?
Thanks for all the help mate
i think you don't have supersu installed, and busy box couldn't get root rights
so download supersu from playstore, open it and update binaries as normal, then reboot
and you would be able to install bb

Try the suggestion made by @Gamer4Life, just in case you somehow got root but it failed to install the APK needed to manage it. Might save you some work. That would explain why everything thinks you're rooted.
As for an alternative, if you still need it, I think I used kingroot successfully on 4.4.4.

Thanks mate. I was hoping Gamer4life might be right as there was no Supersu installed.
I installed supersu from play store no problem... but when I try to update binaries it says' update failed. Please reboot and try again.'. tried reboot but same story.
I guess I'll try 'easy root tool' again and then will give kingroot a bash if needbe.
One last pre-emptive question...
If I root kitkat using kingroot... should I replace kinguser with supersu before proceeding with XZDR and a pre-rooted zip or will kinguser be sufficient to continue.
Many thanks to you and everyone else who has tried to help me with this clusterf*ck,.. I appreciate it
can you screenshot the error you got ?
i reread your op, you don't need busybox to install dual recovery, it installs like the easy root installer, very easy
just one click and you are ready to go
also xzdualrecovery will root your device and install supersu by default if you have kitkat, so you can skip that.
edit (i don't think this will work because towelroot doesn't work on z1 4.4.4 108)

must have been a glitch in the matrix mate becuase its now working (Possibly thanks to your suggestion of installing Supersu?).
I reconnected to PC in order to give 'easy root tool' another crack at it.
As soon as I start install.bat It says checking if device is rooted AND I get a superuser request on my phone for adb.shell - Happy days!
I granted root access to adb shell and the root tool says Job Done. Root success etc.
So I disconnect and try to update su binaries and it worked first go!!!
*Touch wood* I think I'm now past the tricky part and it should be plain sailing from here on in. lol

[update] New wroking xposed for zenfone series

Hello guys,
In recent days, I had seen that some members have issue regarding working xposed that was released previous.
Today, I got a new version of working xposed which is patched by @shakalaca
all credit goes to original developer, I am just posting it here.
I tested it on ze550kl.
it also works on most zenfone series.
prerequisite are same as it was before.
phone must rooted
busy box must installed
root permission must provided to adb shell when asked
just extract archive & first run remov exposed freamework, if there is any non working xposed framework is installed & uninstall xposed apk if installed.
after that reboot system.
not to install frame work first click install xposxed frame work, let process complete & reboot system.
after that click install xposed installer.
now you have working xposed for sdk21 v78 arm64.
Xposed
Work perfect! Thanks!!!
Perfect work. Thanks

sometime pop up for root rights delay due to some mismatch, like you are using patched firmware or boot image of any other system.
Pop window for root right will works well if you have original kernel installed in your phone.
e.g. if you have ze551kl & you are using boot image of ze550kl for root your phone, then you will have this issue.
In patched firmware you may face this issue due to same issue.
Now all the ZE551KL users have to use the ze550kl root method to gain root.
Does that mean all ze551kl users will face the root rights issue?

when you unzip file, there will be three bat files, installxposedframvwork, Installxposedinstaller & removexposedframework.
If you have rooted & install custom recovery, then you may flash zip file from recovery.
if you have not install custom recovery, then unzip file, first run installxposedframework, let process complete, provide root access from you phone when asked, let phone reboot.
after that run installxposedinstaller, let process complete, now you have xposed apk in you phone.
you may also download it from google play store or official thread from developer.

after that run installxposedinstaller, let process complete, now you have xposed apk in you phone.
you may also download it from google play store or official thread from developer.

Ok. When you say I have the apk in my phone, where exactly is it?! I cannot find it... Edit: Nevermind, I had forgotten to run the installer (faceapalm). Sorry...
hi
I can't reboot from Xposed Installer
When I try and reboot through the Xposed Framework I get the following error message everytime:
tmp-mksh: <stdin>[5]: /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/cache/busybox-xposed: not found
Reboot failed. Please use the device's normal reboot function.
I had busybox installer.
Not sure what else I'm doing wrong?
