[Q] HTC One Turns Off at 30% Battery - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My HTC One has started turning Off as it goes below 30% and does not powers up until plugged in to charger. When i plug in charger it shows charging and 0% indication.
How can i rectify this ?

I too have seen that the device does not properly indicate the REAL battery level. Mine usually turns off when I am below 10%.

Yeah I'm sure there's a thread that solves this issue, I'm looking for it too. I've been having crazy battery issues, such as the phone randomly changing it's mind on the battery level. For example if I restart the phone (may have to do with if I was charging it or not) the battery either goes up to max, or sometimes goes down to ZERO and won't even start up (pre reboot it would be near 50%)
I think this happens because of using a ****ed charging cable. I have two main cables that I use, with the original HTC adapter (no longer have the HTC wire though, so I use the one from my Nexus 7). Over time the Nexus cable got damaged, and even data transfer was extremely slow and unreliable.
The funnest part? When I charge my phone and it's at 90%, and I restart and it claims 100%, so I power down and it keeps charging for another 10 minutes or so and finally the LED turns green, only to turn it back on and it claims 97% and keeps charging.

HTC one M7 & M8 battery reset and calibration: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...ry-charger-reset-procedure-htc-one-m7-m8.html
Follow it to the letter, skip "Turn off Fast Boot in settings" as it no longer applies to our phones, unless you are running an old rom.

I tried this but it does not help much.

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with their phone randomly switching off? Mines turns off at random intervals regardless of battery and when I turn it back on a percentage of the battery level drops. Please see link below for screen shot

I already tried the above mentioned instructions to recalibrate the battery but it's not helping.

HTC One Turns Off at 30% Battery
I Am facing same issue. when battery level is on 30% then phone goes suddenly off. I have done catch partition in bootloader for calibration of battery but it is not permanent solution. I think there should be permanent battery calibration is solution but I dont know how to do it

My htc one m7 also turn off using 30% battery only i purchased a battery and give it to mobile shop but they are unable to change it and asked me to go htc service centre but i am out of warranty and trying to contact some private service centre its not an issue that can solved by yourself or doing battery calibration now i am using my phone with a 10400 mAh powerbank i will soon contact service centre or buy a phone with removable battery if servicing cost too much

Try another phone shop, any good shop should be able to replace your battery. There is a lot of uni-body phones nowadays, good phone shops know how to deal with them.

A PC will charge it very slowly. You need to plug it into a wall charger. You probably didn't brick it. See if you can get a USB wall charger from somewhere. Usually Blackberry chargers have a USB port that you can plug the cable into.
Using my HTC usb charger, thanks! So I just have to wait now?

Yeah, pretty much. I don't think backing up your Tab would have bricked it, even if the battery died mid-backup since you're reading from memory (internal), not modifying it.
Ehm, to be precise, I pressed "Reboot System", a samsung logo popped out, I waited a long time and it didnt change so i turned it off. Dont hope it's bricked
Just what!? I've charged it for about an hour and have litterly tried everything, this suck big time! It just wont start

Just plugging it in HTC charger gives you almost nothing! Original Samsung charger has a "trick" inside - it has pins 2 and 3 of its USB output connector shortened, and on top of that it has also 2 resistors between these pins and +5 and GND pins. When you plug the cable in common charger the tab does not "understand" that now it must take full power from the charger and does not charge the battery actually (it should take appr 1 A current from the original charger for 4 hours to be fully charged). You should get an original charger, or get a special adapter connected between your HTC charger and tab's cable (I have seen some at Amazon.de), or to make an adapter yourself.
PS. There is a strong recommendation: never do any programing, flashing, backup or restore with battery discharged below 80%, better to do it with charger connected.
Thanks, good to know, however the orginal is lost.. so can i still use the HTC but it will take longer or?

I am afraid the tab will "think" that there is no charger at all. Connecting it to USB port of PC may give a result after several hours (very-very slow charging). Why don't you think over getting (or making) an adapter?!
Will defo get one, but then I would have wait till monday
Don't think i can make one

Actually I have made this adapter in 20 minutes (but I am formerly an electronic engineer, though).
Well, then try to connect it to PC for the whole night (do not forget to keep PC running ), maybe it works out...
First try to run it, if it hangs, try CWM/restore, if it is bricked - re-flash it.
Good luck!
Thanks alot, really! Will report back tomorrow. Again tanks
Just to be clear, when it's charged, does the battery icon have to be there all the time? It does disappear after some while when it's connected
Battery icon disappears in several seconds when the tab is switched off. Short pressing on power on button shows it again for some while. Moving dots under icon show charging in progress.
When the tab is fully charged it makes a short sound.
When the tab "understands" that it is connected to a charger, it also makes a short sound.
PS. After recovering the unit I recommend to install Battery Watch from the Market - it has a widget and you will always know the state of battery etc. And you can see a graph showing a battery behavior. And this application is on top of that shouting - "Charging started!", "Charging complete!", which is funny...
Guess mine doesn't charge?

Sorry for delay - no, it does not charge... the reason was explained.
Yeah i see now. Thanks for taking you time. Defo appreciated
Just for reference, do NOT turn your GTab on while charging from a pc. It won't charge at all. Keep it turned off, and then wait for like 9 hours (it takes about 50 minutes to increase the charge to 10% from my laptop).
And when you flash, always have a full charge. ;-)

Hehe, yeah I just couldn't wait
Gonna pick up a HDMI dock tomorrow, until I've connected it to a laptop to see if it will charge.
So i got a proper charger, but does it charge?

[Q] How much does it cost to REPLACE THE BATTERY out of warranty on Xperia T?

Hi,
I am bit uncertain of buying a phone with integrated battery, because of battery life worsening after 1 year and half..
does anybody have experience of replacing the battery at official sony assistance? how much does it cost?
thank you

This one does have 1850 mAh
It's 1780mAh actually. This is original battery from my XT that has been replaced with one from my post above.

thank you for your links, I was actually considering this way of solving the problem
I am curious to see if somebody opted for the official support (also experiences with other manufactures are welcome)
I replaced the battery a few days ago, although the video by rounded.com simplified the removal of the outer case which is reinforced with teeth at specific sections. If you have a look at the separate YouTube video by TorensTeam you'll understand exactly what I mean. In the end I only needed to remove the singular screw near the sim tray, although there will then be five connections you need to unpick above and below the battery. The two upper connections are the easiest, and are similar to a stud press when fastening your coat. The lower three each have a latch you need to point upwards, before sliding out the ribbon cables and swiching the battery. My first attempt gave me a blank screen, although my second attempt was completely successful. I simply pushed the lower connections in as far as possible before lowering each of the latches. It is slightly unnerving, but if your alternative is an out of warranty repair you may have very little to lose. For what it's worth my phone feels twenty times better than before, although I'm using an app called safe charge to offset the sleep of death in addition As an aside, most high end phones seem to be incorporating sealed batteries, and depending on what you're prepared to buy the decision may have been taken for you.....
thank you deepershades, it's nice to have so detailed info, I am saving a copy of this thread in my pc

Hello!
I have a Xperia T where the battery is dead, i tryed to start the phone without battery and usb plugged in, it always starts in flash mode as i connect it, if i press the power button for a few seconds the phone vibrates but nothing happens, the screeen remains blank.
Hard reset works also,3x vibrate, but screen remains blank.
When the battery is connected, the phone just does nothing than a very tiny red flash in the moment where it is connected.
If i connect the battery while in flash mode, the green light turns off and a red light appears that is blinking unconstant.
I pushed the lower connectcors as far as possible, and locked them.
Is it possible that the screen only works with connected battery?
can anyone test this for me pls? it would be wasted money, if the screen is also broken..
hope for some replys
thanks
I already attempted this inadvertently when buying a separate gift, an Xperia M, for my mum. The battery in that model is removable but I didn't realise it hadn't been fitted and left it in the box together with the instructions. Upon attaching the charging lead the green LED murmured quickly but then nothing.
The short answer is no battery no screen.....
Okay, thanks for your reply!
Will try it then
Changing the battery helped nothing
When i connect the phone to charger or PC the green LED shows and phone is detected in Flashmode but after some minutes it restarts or something..
When i connect it with Vol- it stays in Flashmode and i can Flash wit SUS or PCC or Flashtool.
Sometimes PC detects an uknown device and led flashes red, but phone restarts after some minutes and LED gets green
When i disconnect the connector for buttons/display, only red led is flashing constantly as long as it is plugged in.
Battery never gets warm, but it should getin warm if its charged or not?!

Battery after Qi Charging

Hi all
Is it just me or after charging the device via Qi Wireless charger, does the battery drain quicker??
I charge mine via QI every night. It get great battery life. No issues at all.
Sent from my Droid Turbo using Tapatalk
Well I've gone from 49% too 38% in the time it took for you to reply! Reboot sorts it but still!!
Nope, no issues here, if check your battery page and see what is causing the drain. I get a full day of usage even with my heavy usage
It might be the charger. Have you tested it with other phones?
QI chargers actively communicate with phones while they charge them, so it could be that the charger is telling the phone it's getting more power than it actually is.
90% of my charging is done on Qi pad on night stand and I get phenomenal battery life.

Maybe it's just the case of the battery meter being screwy....as it seems to jump hideously...turbo charger is fine.
I get great battery life, I'm on the maxx though, I had the turbo for a month on tmobile. I had to tether for about an hour so it dropped my battery down 15%. But 2.5 hours of SOT and 16 hours off the charger. Connected to my moto 360 as well.

you could have a calibration issue, here's how to fix it;
plug in to your turbo charger,
press and hold the power button till the phone shuts off (on it's own, not just the power off prompt), keep holding the power button,
it will flash a battery icon and then show the charge %, make sure it matches what the os said (if you're mis-calibrated, it will not),
you can turn it back on, but leave it on the turbo charger till it's %100.
Some odd charger methods cause this issue (like usb3.0 ports)..
Good luck!

GT-N7000 Completely Unresponsive - Won't turn on or boot into recovery/download mode

Hello,
Before anyone says there are already threads on this, I can assure you that I have spent days scouring through the forums to find a solution to my problem but cannot quite find the exact issue I've experienced.
As usual, I plugged my phone in to charge before I went to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night (as one does) and went to unplug it only to find the Kernel Panic Upload Mode message on a black screen. This has happened a couple of times in the past so I wasn't bothered. This is what followed:
Removed charger from phone.
Pushed power button, phone attempted to restart but hung on start up screen (Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 screen).
Repeated step 2 with same result.
Pulled the battery
Put battery back after a few seconds, pushed and held power button but there was no response.
Tried to boot into either recovery or download mode without success.
Tried all the button pressing/batttery removal sequences listed in the forums without success.
Charged battery fully on external charger and tried again.
These are my observations:
This is not a screen issue, the phone does not turn on and is not detected bu my PC, ODIN or anything else.
There is nothing wrong with the battery. (I have a multimeter).
There is nothing wrong with the charger (I have since used it to charge 2 other phones).
There is nothing wrong with the charging port (there is 5V on the VBUS line).
No voltage on +ve battery connector pin when charger is plugged in, with battery removed.
4.2V on +ve battery connector pin when charger is plugged in and battery is inserted.
Approximately 1.5V on +ve battery connector pin when battery is inserted but phone is not plugged in.
No current flows from battery no matter how long it is left in the phone or how many times power button is pressed. Battery voltage remains the same.
Phone is warm directly above the battery connector. Not hot but noticeably warm. Can someone please tell me which chip is behind the shielding? I've searched but all I found were EMMC and PMIC which are not in this location.
Important points:
Phone running on NightOwl LineageOS 14.1 Android 7.1.2 20180824 by Bauner for 2 years without any issues.
I have tried a USB jig but it doesn't do anything.
What could be wrong? Unlike most of the people who have had this problem, it wasn't a result of flashing any firmware and I wasn't even using the phone when this happened.

Hi @secondchild
Ditto, exactly the same issue... but on a different rom. Same version of Android, just using Resurrected Remix 5.8.5 (Android 7.1.2)
I've not gone to all the lengths you have with testing the battery, but know it's not battery either as I now have another Note and charge the battery in that. But same thing happened. All was fine charged at night time. Unplugged and put phone in pocket. Got to work, and saw it was stuck on Samsung logo. So I reset the phone, still stuck there. Pulled the battery, back in... and now nowt.
To this day, still not managed to get any life out of it... (hence the other Note). I read another post, where someone had similar issues and they managed to revive 3x dead Notes by placing them on a radiator, to heat up the circuit board. With such a success rate of that, I was keen (but worried something would go pop) try that method. So I moved the battery, stripped the note down so mainly just the circuit board and tried a couple of times.... STILL DEAD!!!
I feel we've suffered S.D.S. with our phones, but don't get why as we are not on that fatal old ICS kernel that caused that. Making me think all other roms/kernels could potentially be UNSAFE !!
Good luck, hope you manage to solve yours... For now, I've given up on mine and may look at it again at a later date... But at moment, I feel mine is toast
Cheers, Lister

I think I've given up too. I'll dabble with it every now and then when I'm bored. I did find out though that the low voltage I was getting on the +ve battery connector pin was due to a faulty connection. The pin was somewhat distorted. When I have time, I will try changing a few components. Don't know if you have the service manual but I'm aiming to find out what happens if I change U607. I suspect it's either that, or one of L607, L608 or R169. I'll let you know how it goes.
By the way, I did try the radiator thing. I wasn't really worried. If you can dry clothes on a radiator then the heat is nothing to a PCB.

Question Possibility to lower charging speed / automatically stop the charging? (Without root)

Is there any way to automatically stop charging at, for example, 80% without root?
I would also be interested in determining for myself how fast the device is charged, as I use the same two 65 watt cables for everything (laptops, tablet, phones, headphones, ...) and the speed on this phone doesn't exactly feel healthy. Perhaps it is possible to give the required permissions via adb or twrp.

Stopping charging requires a device that has a hardware switch. No software will do it by itself. I recently read that such models have appeared, so look for information.
As for charging, smart chargers adjust the charging current according to the request from the battery controller.
Anyone knows if this option really works ?
From time to time I'm charging the phone overnight with slow charger, 5V, 1A. And sometimes on a morning I have 80% charged only... Will have to try a few more times to confirm. Or it is applying only for continuous charging ?

I came to xiaomi from a sony 5 II and it had a function called "Battery Care", that would stop the charging at 80%, the battery is still in a very good condition, after two years.

Its a hidden menu in miui, can be opened by installing activity launcher and search for optimized charging, its there under security, i guess by default its on.

There's an app for that but i guess it needs root and 65W charger is not always charging at same power, phone will draw the charge according to its battery level.
Just root. You lose nothing. I use "AccA" to manage battery with root.
It is possible to set a charge percentage limit , but on custom rom , not Miui.
I recently switched to Evolution X rom (A12L based) and there's an option for that.
