[Q] T-Mobile to AT&T - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using T-Mobile and I'm now on AT&T do I need to use an AT&T Rom? The custom Rom I'm using for T-Mobile does work but wondering if using an AT&T Rom would be best regarding the radios, etc.

there's no such thing on a nexus device as custom roms for different carriers. they are all exactly the same, and will work on any carrier.

So you're saying I can use any Rom on this phone? Since there are custom Nexus 6 roms for T-Mobile and AT&T here so that's my question?

Doesn't matter. I've run the T-Mobile on Sprint. Only radios will have a role in your reception.

Thank you! Do I need to flash the AT&T radio along with any version ROM I choose? I really appreciate the help I just don't want to mess anything up.

No, you only flash a radio once. Unless you want to use a different one. Find the one that works best for you and keep it.

[Q] Stock Rom

I am using an unlocked att captivate on tmobile network. Does anyone know if i could flash stock tmobile rom on it without issues since they have identical hardware?. Thank you.

What do you mean Stock ROM? Are you talking about a Vanilla ROM made for the Vibrant (which there are none yet) or are you talking about the Vibrant version of Touchwiz. Either way they have different stuff that will not allow a simple load of it. There are many codes that would have to be changed to work on the Captivate. Its the firmware that will not allow it, not the hardware.

HTC Raider=Same software?

I have had the HTC Raider (the Korean name for the Vivid) for a while now. I have been waiting for the phone to pop up on here so I can try out some Roms.
Anyone have any idea if these roms would be compatible for the HTC Raider? I would HOPE so, but I imagine that it isn't that simple
I am already rooted by the way if that matters.
I am guessing here but I think the only difference will Probably be the radio's. If that is the case I would assume someone would be able to pull the radio from the Raider and make 2 different versions of the same rom just with different Radio's. Or have a way to flash the radio independent of the actual Rom.

any HTC rom i have worked on or flashed has never included a radio in the rom flash.
I'm assuming once we have an unlocked bootloader, root, recovery and such that the modding community will be pretty decent. I imagine custom roms would work between several carriers. As long as you don't flash the wrong radio I don't see why there'd be any issues. Similar to several versions/carriers of the Evo 3D

Hence why I said. "Or have a way to flash the radio independent of the actual Rom." It has been a few months since I have been on an HTC device and I forgot how easy HTC is to Flash Radio's.

I'm assuming you're not referring to official RUU's. I'm pretty certain they tend to include radios. When dev's release custom roms they do not include radios...they tend to like to keep the individual aspects separate for customization
edit: just to be clear when I say RUU i'm not referring to an ruu that someone might have used to extract a stock rom or whatever i mean a real ruu_____.exe
No I was meaning the Radio's you can Flash from the bootloader on HTC Device's. The PC10IMG.zip type. Not sure what they need to be for this device but I assume it is the same type of thing.

You should be able to use the roms with a kernel update like I used to with my HTC dream using roms from the T-mobile. I think with the S-On that part can't be written onto anyways through the custom recovery. The dual-core chip is the same one as used in Korea, but they underclocked it to 1.2Ghz. However I noticed the major difference between the vivid/Raider(CDN) are the lte bands Korea is on 850 while we are using a mixture with mostly 700.

That's the only real hardware difference, I think. Korea uses 850MHz LTE, while Bell uses 700/1700/2100 and Rogers/ATT uses AWS/700.

T-Mobile boot.img question

So I flashed my AT&T Note i717 to the T-Mobile boot.img. I think it was "t-mob-stock-boot.img.tar". So now my phone thinks it's the T-Mobile Note version. When I go into about phone, the model number even says SGH-T879.
Will this cause any future problems if I want to flash to an AT&T based ROMs? Will it have any problems if I flash T-Mobile based ROMs? When I flash the radio modems...will only T-mobile radios work or will AT&T radio works as well? I'm just trying to clarify everything before I do something stupid and mess up my phone. Thanks in advance.
This belongs in the Q and A section. As far as your inquiry
So correct me if IM wrong but from mg understanding.............
1. TMobile boot.img
So this is needed to flash any TMobile ROM the reason for this is that it makes the association to the ROM. No boot.img will cause the ROM to not boot up. So TMobile boot.img must be used for any TMobile or att roms if you are using a TMobile note. and att boot.img must be used for any tmkbile or att roms on an att variant of the phone.
2. The radio basically tells the phone what network it's connecting to. So if you flash a TMobile ROM there is a big chance you are also flashing a TMobile radio. If you are trying to use an att galaxy note with TMobile you have to find the appropriate radio in that Dec section. If you are trying to use the TMobile ROM on att network you must flash an att radio.

Got it! Thanks. I have an AT&T note that I'm using on T-mobile...so for future references, there shouldn't be any interference if I decide to flash to an AT&T ROM if I flash it back with At&t's stock.img, correct? So just to double check, I can only flash to a t-mobile radio only if I'm running a T-mobile ROM? What are the side effects if I tried to flash to a T-mobile radio on a stock at&t ROM?
That's about right. I don't think you can brick the device by flashing an improper radio, but don't hold me to it. I have done the opposite I have a TMobile note and have flashed TMobile radio with att roms with various success. In some occasions the ROM boots and the signal varies. It's best if you stick with att roms with att radios as opposed to TMobile roms with att radios. Results will vary by rom

[Q] T-mobile HTC one

I'm a t-mobile htc one user. T-mobile USA use special channel for their 4G net work, which is 1700/2100 HZ. Will I lose my 4g connection if I flash a custom-rom or kernel?

no. im with tmo and currently using trickdroid and bulletproof still getting 4g and 4g lte
4g LTE? I have 4g only
Is that a 4.1 based rom or is it a 4.2 base?
Does the software number matter? Because we are using 1.27.531.7, which is different than most using 1.29

Tmobile USA HTC Ones have different firmware? Can I update my firmware?
My firmware is 1.27. Is that mean I can't use those custom roms which are based on 1.29? Because if I flash for 1.29, I can't go back to 1.27, which means I can't get official update.
I got mine on Thursday, I called TMo in the morning and they where sold out so I left my number for their next shippment. Which came in 3 hours later, so I know it's as fresh as the come and mine is 1.27 also. This is the first I've heard of someone with a T-Mobile One from T-Mobile that came with 1.29.

How to back up and how to go back? I'm sorry for asking this stupid question but I really don't know how. I turn "back up" on on my phone, is it already back up? I don't see any back up bottom on htc sync manager. And how to go back? I can't find tmobile stock rom anywhere.

you have to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery. you make the backup in the custom recovery. there will be an option in the recovery that says backup/restore. use that to make backups or restore your backup
This should answer some of your questions about backing up an Android device. We assume that since you are talking about adding a custom rom/kernel, you know you have to have a custom recovery to install them. Here is a video of a custom recovery you can use to not only install a rom/kernel, but also back up your current stock rom/kernel.

You may wanna start by putting this in the T-Mobile LG G2 section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g2
Usually you need to stick to roms that are marked for your model number.

Sorry I missed that part, if it's a VS980, any rom marked to work on a VS980 should flash fine. Just keep an eye on what baseband is required, some still only work on the older JB baseband (certain AOSP roms), I'd avoid those personally.

You call also flash other variants to the vs980 there is a thread on xda about it. There's a patch that needs to be installed first though
