Lags and stutters on my Note 4 after Lollipop - Galaxy Note 4 General

My N4 is from Singapore and I updated it to Lollipop 5.0.1 due to OTA update that was always in my face. Since then, the phone experiences lags and stutters a lot to the point where it will be unresponsive for 5 seconds and above.
also, i have very terrible data connection. sometimes the data arrows move but my app does not load. chrome also lags and hangs intermittently.
i have reformatted and cleared cache via recovery. any ideas what i can do to help fix the phone? I am running stock unrooted Note 4. any help will be greatly appreciated.
p.s. I prefer not to root at this point as I want to be able to keep my warranty status intact. Plus xposed on lollipop doesnt seem to have much apps for me so sticking to stock unrooted.

I've been having this problem too, tried custom ROMs and tweaks, things improved but not that much

I flashed Kitkat back after Lollipop 5.0.1
I decide that I will not update my Note 4 any more ........... unless one day .......... there will be a better stable firmware.
I don't care about Lollipop .............. Lollipop is the most faulty Android version ............ keep away from Lollipop
Maybe we should wait for Android M in 2016

Same here! I brought the phone in for service and hoping it will magically come back with 5.1.1 fixing all these stupid bugs. Dont know why did Samsung ruin the perfect N910G! Sigh.

I know what you mean man. I took the adivce of everyone here and rolled it back to kitkat 4.4.4
will test out and see how that goes. otherwise i will let go of it and use the oneplus till note 5/next phone gets released.

ive never had any stutterings or lags whatsoever..im stock

I tried package disabler (yes, I know it costs money), disabled around 40 (non-essential) packages and my note is as smooth as when I first bought it on KitKat.

Please could you export and post this list of packages that you have disabled? I didn't know Package Disabler was a thing - sounds like exactly what I'm after!

Would also love to have that list !!!

Now the package disabler app got colour code for bloatware

Nope, seems to be yet another placebo fix.

Same for my N916S, the stutters and delays annoy me so much, hard to believe it's a stock rom, it probably happens to S5 5.0 as well
But unfortunately, no kitkat for me, my variant is shipped with lollipop out of the box, sign

Factory reset always helps after an OTA update. I had N910F, the European version snapdragon and just few weeks ago replaced it with N910C, UAE version which has exynos chips. I find N910C lags way less. Infact, no lag at all. It came with lollipop installed then I flashed stock Poland firmware as they had the latest.
Everything is working great! Using Google launcher. Hate Samsung's folders and I find Google now one swipe away much more convenient.

Stuck on 4.4

Anyone else still stuck on 4.4?
I have decided not to root my phone or flash any rom that has not been directly issued to my phone by Google. I'm still too happy with my device to mess around with that.
Therefore, I decided to create a thread for the people who are still using 4.4 because they haven't got the update yet. I'm in Malta... Anyone else?
What's better than the mutual anticipation for something new, right?
Sidenote: will the update fix Google Now not working on some devices?

I think you should at least consider rooting, the benefits of that are countless. I just re-wiped my phone to stock+root so I can just sideload the 4.4.2 update.
Why not sideload it?

Because it hasn't rolled out to everyone yet. Give it time if you don't want to sideload it.
I am on 4.4 and I could have done sideloading, but I don't care much. Been doing enough nightlies with i777 (ATT SGS2) until last month when it died. I like the pure G experience more than I thought (I thought I would go for CM11 immediately after I get N5 then Omni) and I see not much issue with 4.4. I don't use my phone to take a pic much - I have Fuji XE-1 and Canon 5D for that.
I will get it when I get it. Who knows.. Google might have really started nightlies and 4.4.3 is around the corner.
Edit: Well, it looks like they have decided to give it to me just now.
I just got my 4.4.2 ota update yesterday. Chose not to sideload like I did for the 4.4.1 update. My N4 got the ota update on Mon night (it's stock, not rooted). To some degree, it's all just a crap shoot.

There are just different roll-out schedules. Let me put it this way, I was on custom recovery and rooted, and saw I had 4.4.2 update (was on 4.4). So not wanting to mess anything up I went complete stock, though when I rebooted I saw I no longer had it regardless of pressing the update button a million times. So I just ended up side loading it. The reason why it probably was not there, is probably this:
Why is clearing Google Services Framework data is a bad idea?:
There is a myth that has been around for a few years that clearing data in Google Services Framework will get you the OTA faster. Android Engineer Dan Morrill has taken to reddit to explain why NOT to do this and why the method I've described in this thread is the best way to get your update quickly.
Quote:
Doing this changes the primary ID by which Google knows your device. As far as the servers are concerned, the device was basically factory reset. There are many downstream effects of this, but a big one is that this invalidates the tokens used by any app that uses GCM (which is nearly all the Google apps, and a ton of third-party apps.)
How apps react to GCM IDs changing varies by app. With Play Store you have to log out and log back in, I think Gmail usually handles it transparently eventually but won't get new mail notifications for a while, etc. Some apps you may have to clear data on to recover. All apps will simply stop getting GCM push-messages, until they get a new GCM ID; some do this frequently, others rarely, and some apps use the GCM ID as an ID on their own servers (as it is opaque and basically random), so other things besides push messages may not work.
Nothing bursts into flames, but it makes a ton of nuisances on the device, including some that can look pretty mysterious. Your mileage will vary depending on what apps you use.
All of this can be avoided by just doing an 'adb sideload' if you are impatient. -Dan Morrill

I am assuming it was no longer valid for me because my ID changed when I wiped my phone. So with that being said, your choices are to either wait, or side load.

From the sheer number of posts showing problems with sideloading, I recommend waiting for the OTA update. Why risk so many issues and buggy software just to get an update a few days earlier?

common miss-conception.
sideload is just a different channel to put the damn OTA zip on your phone. there is no higher / lower rate of issues than getting the actual OTA, you will be in the same boat.
Got tired of waiting in Dallas yesterday. I know...patience is a virtue but no a strong point of mine. Wanted to check the camera out so I side loaded both updates early last night.
My N5 has been working like a champ. Camera and speaker are definitely improved!

There are no problems with sideloading if one hasn't messed with their phone. Issues arise when one tries to sideload the OTA and they have modified files in /system.
I was using 4.4 ( unrooted ) totally original system, and got 4.2.2 update a few hours ago. I'm in Hamilton ON, Canada.

good question on the counter, I have restarted my phone and have not seen it, Buuut I did freeze knox though. As far as updating Use Kies took about 10 mins
USB audio?
I got the Lollipop update this morning through T-mobile. It was smooth to update, and I haven't noticed battery issues or anything others had reporter.
However, I was super-excited for Lollipop, because it allows for USB microphones. And I've tried all 5 of the ones I own without success. I tried Samsung support, which was useless. They weren't even aware of the feature.
Do you think it's possible that Samsung or T-mobile bypassed this native feature to Lollipop? I was connecting via OTG cable. I haven't tried mic to powered hub to OTG yet, because I've seen Nexus owners on Lollypop just connect USB microphones via OTG.
I'd be grateful for any advice any of you gurus have out there. I am not rooted or running anything custom. I've been fairly happy with stock. But, like I started with, I was all the while looking forward to this Lollypop update for portable recording via USB. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.
Downloading as I type...I'm sure I am wasting my time since I been rocking BeanStalk 5.0.2, but my curiosity is making me just give it a look and see how it works. It'll be nice to use the S-Pen features again, but Lollipop without all the bs that samsung and tmo put on there has been nothing short of amazing.
Why have the note 4 when you can have PURE android just like you want with the new 6 inch moto. But whatever guess I will never understand why people will buy a car. Strip it off its goods (rims/system/under the hood upgrades) just to have a classic stripped stock vehicle? I mean already having the features why give then away? I will never understand

Assuming that you're talking about the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro, there's no need to debate/discuss why I would want TouchWiz on ANY level, which is why I was close to buying a Nexus 6. Honestly though, for me, while the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro isn't a bad phone(they're both really great phones), they lost me with no way to add extra storage or remove your battery if needed. In addition, while I have been running Beanstalk for the last few weeks, I still think the S-Pen is a really great feature to have on the Note 4. There's really no need to go into details about which phone is better, because it will always come down to preference, but in regards to your comment, it's not as stripped down as you present it to be.

No attitude here, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am certainly not hating on you for what you're saying and personally, in many(maybe most) aspects, those are flat out better phones than the Note 4. I just installed this bs lollipop so now as I type, I am flashing back to BeanStalk. The lack of a removable battery i could live with, but the expandable storage is a necessity for me, the only reason I am staying with the Note 4 since most phones that are coming out are converting to that style.

You do not need to install gapps on stock ROMs. They are included. Installing them as a zip will break them. So, factory reset (or fresh install), and don't flash gapps.

Slowness/freezing etc

Hey guys, G-925A user here. Can anyone please tell me if I'm the only one experiencing slowness, freezing and overall glitchiness on my s6 edge?
I mean this thing has 3gb of ram right? It should breeze through multitasking, but it just crawls. My g2 and g3 were waaay faster and never froze up as much as this thing does.
Is it touchwiz? Att bloatware? I'm rooted and using titanium backup to freeze as much bloatware as I could find. But it still doesn't work as well or as fast as I believe a phone with these specs should.
Looking for ideas from the community here, should I try cleanrom? Has anyone experienced similar issues and fixed with custom rom?
Thanks in advance guys!!

I have the same phone on ATT. I don't have any freezing or reboots, but after about 2 days without restarting, it gets super slow.
I have used several debloated roms and they help a lot. The S6 partial memory fix helps a little bit, but the phone slows down more in the long term (restarts always help helps).
same experience here. memory fix only lasts so long. phone comes down to a crawl so badly that sometimes i think the phone completely locked up. happens during texting, using FB...pretty much everything. it's starting to get annoying. i love this phone but this is horrible.
Same here. So frustrating. Happened to me the other day that I needed driving directions. My wife pulled out her iphone 5s and asked siri. She had turn by turn before I could even load the gmaps screen. She laughed at me. It hurt. =(
Do a factory reset - it worked WONDERS for me, ever since, my Edge has been super smooth. It's painful, I know, but the thing was so laggy for me I wanted to chuck it hard against a brick wall. Now it's back to what it originally promised! I suspect doing it every 3-4 months is probably going to be a requirements for power users...

Unfortunately that is the norm. Hopefully AT&T will get around to releasing 5.1.1 since the latest update (on T-Mobile, for example) seems to address most of the issues we see like the lag, and battery drain.
Although some of the blame is due to Android 5.0.x, it is primarily Samsung since I have other phones still on 5.0.x (ASUS ZenFone 2, HTC One M9) that do not suffer from the lag.
AT&T bloatware
I think this is due to the mandatory AT&T updates that are pushed on to our devices, because there is a noticeable decrease in performance after OTA updates from AT&T:crying:
Seems like I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. It's sad that this device performs so badly.
I think I'd like to unroot it and actually install the OTA updates, just to see if it works faster. Does anyone know a simple guide to unrooting?
The funny part is that benchmarks still show high scores.

thought i would add something here. I have since sold my 925a and bought a 920t to have ability to use twrp and unlocked bootloader. (insert big middle finger to at&t here). i have installed xtrestolite and have to say the phone runs so much fast than my edge on att with frozen bloatware ever did. no real freezing during multi-tasking, camera still opens quite quick. I mean so much of an improvement, so I would have to say it's got do do with att/carrier software that ruin the customer experience for us. good luck to you all out there. now the wait for xposed begins...
I went the other way. I had a 920t and gave it to my Dad. Picked up a 925a for myself. I'd do anything to have the speed of my original s6 back. I love the edge, but geez does this thing lag.
I gave in and flashed the original os. The device runs significantly better. It seems the themes from Samsung slowed down my phone and caused a lot of issues with the dialer app.

You probably froze/disabled an app you shouldn't have. The system is stalling because of this.

AT&T Galaxy S6 OTA upgrade 3/3/2016

Anyone else receive this OTA this morning? I didn't see, or look for, a detailed change log before proceeding with the OTA push. Phone rebooted and is optimizing apps right now. I'll provide further details once it finishes.
I know, for sure, that I checked for new software within the past week or so and there was nothing available. I've been up to date with OTA upgrades since getting this phone on day one of its release.
Anyone know anything about this upgrade?

Probably just updating security mostly since we were a few months behind. Could also be preparing our phones to take take 6.0 update since there's usually a small update before a big one. Wouldn't hold my breath on it though

Don't try to apply this update if you've applied one of the leaked insecure boot images (for getting a root prompt). There's a check of the boot image built into the updater and if you attempt installation it will wipe your phone back to stock.
D**k move Samsung, d***k move.
I was a fool to initially think that the update juuuuuust might be Marshmallow. And then I thought, "I have AT&T. They would've made the announcement before just releasing the OTA. Hell, they would've made a big deal out of it, even; as if they're doing us a favor. " And so, I took a Valium and went to sleep.
This update seems to break mms for many of the users myself included verified with AT&T that is indeed related to it Samsung is on process of updating. Anyway if you happen to get it just boot your phone to safe mode and then use mms there and restart back to normal, it works after . And hopefully marshmallow will be soon

I'm still getting MMS texts, what was broken?
So far I've noticed my battery life is better than it was before, on the OJ7 update i had a very odd drain as well as issues with my bluetooth and wifi that were only fixed with a reboot......so far knock on wood they seem to be resolved but it should take a few more days to fully confirm. I did also try Enhanced LTE again and just as before I had a nice drain on my battery so they still don't have that working great yet (my area has weak LTE and switches between LTE and 4G on a normal basis).

Pictures, wasn't able to send or receive. Some problem with the default app. Plus it deleted all my old pictures from the texts thread.

Factory reset might be your only option till the update hits, tough luck

Should i update?

I have galaxy s5 mini G800F and i got the 5.1.1
The question is....should i update or not?
And why?
S5 mini, lollipop update
I also have an S5 mini that has downloaded the Lollipop update (without asking). So far I have not installed it, having read many bad reports about it
I'm very happy with lollipop, if you are not happy with it you can go back to kitkat in a almost easy way. Only "problem" I've got is a little less battery lifetime but that could also be a problem of the age of my battery. All other features work so far.

s5 mini G800F lollipop update
Can some more people please advise as to whether or not the lollipop update should be installed, as I don't want to wreck an otherwise perfectly good phone just because an update has automatically downloaded, keeps prompting me to install it and I cannot delete it !! Thanks

I'm using the stock, not KNOX tripped G880F with abdroid 5.1.1. and I'm happy with it. No risk in Updating from Android 4. I updated right after buying the phone earlier this year. So it was a clean install.
Nevertheless an official update to Marsmallow would also be nice. But since I recently bought the phone, there's no reason for me to trigger KNOX on a working phone, with the risk of loosing my guarantee.
I am using Lollipop for 3 months now. It's a very good OS, I like it but there are 2 things that sometimes occur - 1: when awaking the phone and trying to unlock it I sometimes get "The Fingerprint sensor is not responding. Try again later" and you need a password to unlock your device so it can occur to you. 2: it sometimes lags very hard. It doesn't matter what I do and it occurs different times. In one time, I got it 1 time in a week but after it i got 2 in a day(but after then it's only 1-2 a week again). It can be my phone or I need to do factory reset, IDK. Anyways, I haven't seen any more bugs/glitches/etc.
