A month with SlickWraps Carbon. (REVIEW) - Galaxy S6 Edge Accessories

So its been a little over a month since I bought my AT&T S6 Edge and covered it with a Spigen Inc, curved crystal screen protector ($12.99)and a SlickWraps Carbon black skin ($20 full kit) So I figured I should do a review for people who might be on the fence about ordering either of these products.
The Screen protector:
While not tempered glass like i am used to on my previous phones, it has held up to being stuffed in my pocket with keys, and slid across my desk more than a few times. I don't know what the protector is made from but it has a slick rubbery type feel to it, still very smooth and not sticky at all. The protector has a slight edge curve to each side which made the install a little bit of a pain because they kept trying to stick while I was lining up the top and bottom of the screen.
The install was simple enough. I do my cover installs in a closed bathroom after running the shower on hot for a couple minutes (seems to pull everything in the air down to the ground with the steam)
The Wrap:
I am amazed at the quality of craftsmanship that SlickWraps put into these skins! Every hole lined up perfectly with no gaps or over lapping of sensors. The only thing that isn't visible is the captive back lights. But the buttons still respond perfectly through the wrap. Having cutouts there would feel weird and look funny anyway. It looks clean the way it is and I can appreciate that. Even though I was installing it over the screen protector since everything lined up it wasn't an issue.
(the sim card slot is cut out, you can remove the card I just put the dot over the key hole)
The install was also simple, line up one side, press the edge then line up the other side and smooth it all out. I had to put it on and take it off a couple times to get it perfect but with the holes cut to such close tolerances I was not expecting it to be perfect the first time. After sticking the front and back on I turned off the phone and hit it with a hair dryer on high for 5 or 6 minute and pressed down all the edges and rubbing back and forth to smooth it all out. The top and sides were a little trickier. As you can see from the pictures I messed up around the power button. I didn't heat up the part around the button so when I rubber it out to smooth it The area around the button on one side "stretched" and I was forced to cut it off. That was my fault I started to rush and missed it with the blow dryer.
Wrap and Screen protector Combo:
Ease of install: 9/10
Durability: 10/10 (Based on 34 days installed)
Longevity: 10/10 (based off 34 days installed)
Look: 9/10
Quality: 10/10
For those who thing $35 is to expensive for a wrap and screen protector:
I bought a cheapy wrap from Ebay for my wife's Edge and the holes didn't line up, the round cutouts were square, the edge portions were just a straight piece of carbon fiber sticker with no cut outs for buttons, the top and bottom didn't contour with the edge, and the wrap was about 1 cm to long! but hey, they gave me a link for a carbon fiber wallpaper on a card...
I probably don't need to talk about cheap screen protectors and how they are straight cut and don't like to bend and end up peeling off...

Thanks for the review. I'm going to try this out for my edge with the leather slickwrap and the same screen protector with confidence now. I only hope this doesn't look too crazy with my navor wallet case, and that the cards in the case don't dent the screen protector (since you mentioned it had a rubbery kind of give to it).

Roo Case exec tough (black) review..

So I needed a case for my S6 edge as I am rather active during the day and while I have never dropped a phone, I didnt want to have an oops moment adn drop this one and break it. Bought a case from Speigen which normally has good reviews... but the case seemed like it was made about 1mm to long and it constantly bugged me that my phone moved around in it a little. But me being cheap and realizing that the case while annoying protected my phone just fine, never replaced it.
Then I got my hands on the RooCase... First impression was seemed decent, about on par with my other case, but seriously how different could it be? Boy was I about to get an eye opener...
Installation: the fit was TIGHT! I actually used a micro screwdriver to help the edges over the phones power and volume buttons. I didn't really need to I found out but as I said this case fits good and tight and I hate putting a lot of side load on small switches and buttons. once on the phone the case is nice and firm. No wiggle at all. Much better than my old case. The only issue I had with installation was that the edge of the case pushed my film style screen protector up and caused it to bubble a bit in a couple spots. this was alleviated with my micro screwdriver gently lifting the edge of the case and using a guitar pick to smooth the bubble out before releasing the case edge back down. If you installed a screen protector and it is off center you may need to watch out for this. I don't blame the case for this, but just giving heads up.
Feel: I'm not going to get into the technical manes and such, and for that I apologize, but here are my impressions of the case in hand. the back of the case is a lightly textured hard plastic. the top and bottom edge of the back is a rubbery type material. the sides are the same plastic as the back of the case, but with rubber inserts down the middle. I found that the back is a little slick and slides a touch in my hand, but with the rubbery top and bottom it really isn't an issue. I would love to see some sort of rubbery addition or something to the back to aid in anti-slip if I could have everything I wanted... the rubber inserts on the sides, while rather thin, do a wonderful job of adding just enough grip to the device. In the hand the case feels great. No sharp edges, just enough tactile feel, nad good and solid.
Design: The case has small protrusions on the back so that when you lay it down the Camera and such is well protected. these protrusions are formed i the rubbery top and bottom parts and I found that they also do a wonderful job of keeping the device from sliding around on smooth surfaces. the top and bottom edges of the front are also protruding past the device protecting the screen and again keeping the device from sliding, albeit it will slide just a bit easier than the back.
the openings are all well shaped and cut out to perfectly line up with the phones charging, speaker, headphone jack and what ever the two openings on the top of the phone are... Cant remember what they are right now, Oh well...
on the outer edges of the corners there is a larger protrusion of rubber that will protect the phone if dropped on the corners. I don't feel like dropping my phone to test this, but they seem well designed and placed. large enough to add extra protection, but still small enough to flow with the case and phones lines perfectly.
My favorite part of the case design is the buttons. I really love the buttons on this case. Most cases have marks, or molded bumps for the buttons. This case has real, actual freaking metallic buttons! They actually feel better than the phones stock buttons. the power button has two vertical lines cut into the face of it and in the dark it is so easy to slide my finger down the side of the case until I feel that and I know instantly my finger is o the button to either turn on or off the screen or what ever Im trying to do. the volume button is a nicely prominent as well with a nice line cut in the middle to differentiate between up and down. again, very simple and easy to feel with your finger to adjust volume. the buttons are nice and prominent, but still low profile enough to not be a bother. the corner bumpers I mentioned earlier are just a touch wider than the buttons are, so again, everything flows very well.
Protection: well... the case is great. I work in Law Enforcement. we do all sorts of active training adn what not and because of my unit I am always on call so I have to keep my phone with me at all times. I had it in my pocket the other day and my phone took two hits from simunition... the screen was destroyed. instantly and catastrophically. so I figured why not, the phone was already destroyed and going to be replaced... So I set the phone up with the case facing out and hit it a few times with the simunition rounds. the marks on the case wiped right off, and when I puled the case off the phone was undamaged. the case protected the back glass perfectly.
Conclusion: I love this case. The color, fit, finish, details such as the buttons and the level of protection it affords without becoming obtrusive such as Otterbox or lifeproof are exactly what I want and expect in a case. It looks great on my phone, feels great in my hand, slides in and out of my pocket easily with out snagging. I would highly recommend looking into this case if your in the market for one.
Ill add pictures of it later, Im at work right now and cant post them from here.

Hey there schollianmj!
Thank you for your amazing and thorough review, we're happy to hear that you enjoyed our case! We definitely try to go for designs that are stylish all while withstanding getting hit with simunition. That's why we call it our Exec Tough case, because if it can't withstand getting shot at then what is a case good for, am I right? We're eager to see pictures, let us know when you have them up and once again, thank you for the review!

Review - Tough Case - Artech 21 [Little Rock Series] Military-grade Ultra Protective

NOTE: I received this at a discount in exchange for reviewing it.
Also NOTE: This is an outstanding case and the first fully protective case where I have given it five out of five stars on Amazon as well as here.
Please see the photos. Wireless charging works well with this case on. The phone is fully protected, front back and the sides - with this case. The only con I can find about this case is - which is not even a con - is that the two piece fit together so well that when it arrived with no instructions on how to pull it apart to insert the phone, that it is puzzling at first how to do so! DO NOT do like I did which it to try to pry the pieces apart with a knife on the front to try to open it - fortunately I did not scrape the case but soon discovered that the rubber lip on the front around the edges can be pulled back, and that is how to get the front of the case away from the back.
The pieces fit together with very tight tolerances. You first put the phone into the front of the case (and use no screen protector because one is included as part of the front of the case) - and it snaps on nice and tightly. Then you push the flexible heavy rubber-life back onto the front. When you are holding the phone case with the front facing you, and feel along the back edges on the sides of the phone, when you run your fingers up and down those edges they may feel lumpy. If you just push those lumps in then you will feel them snap into place and flatten out - this case fits the phone very well.
One thing I like in particular about this case is the raised lip around the front edge of the phone is raised higher than you will find on most other protective cases, without seeming like it is too fat around the edges of the phone. Additionally, the lip is raised less down near the home button on the phone so that there is no issue with people with large fingers trying to get the fingerprint reader to work well - another good design consideration included with this unit.
The back of the phone's hard plastic surfaces are matte so it is not at all a 'fingerprint magnet'. The indentation for the camera lens has walls that are reflective and slanted so the lens would never be obstructed by the case and there would never be any kind of shadowing affect. On the back of the phone case there are also small fake 'screw heads' that stick up and are in fact made of the heavy rubber material - and they do a good job of actually acting like nice rubber 'feet' on the back of the phone so that it will not slip when put onto a slanted surface. Although the corners and edges of the phone are made of this material, the case is still not too bulky - and not too slip resistant - to stop you from being able to slip it easily into your pocket.
The bottom edge has plugs which only cover the ports which the case designer feels would be used less often - the headphone jack and the charging port. The speaker grille is of course left uncovered and the S-Pen is actually easily accessible - the case is designed so that corner of the phone is still protected from falls, while the S-Pen is still easily reachable, which shows how well the phone case is designed. The only other case I have reviewed which had better plugs is one with plugs slightly larger than the hole with extra ridges on the side of the plug, so that it would still stay in the hole even after being pulled out hundreds of times - that is not the case here, but these plugs still fit pretty tightly and the only way to test if these would stand up to long term daily abuse is to test that for many months of wear and tear. However, I do not think that would be a problem with this phone.
To help with the grip a little better, which may be unnecessary due to the material used in this case anyway, the sides have raised ridges sticking out all the way up and down both sides of the phone. The buttons work very will and do not work so well that they would be pushed in by mistake. Additionally the buttons are easy to find by feel without looking - but in fact they still do not stick out so they would never catch on anything either!
As far as a protective rubber case for the Note 5, this one would be my top choice! Outstanding job Artech 21!
Looks like a great case, similar to the otterbox defender. Two questions? Does Tech 21 have a lifetime warranty for this case (like otterbox) and does the slot where the home button is allow too much dust in?
I am not sure about the warranty. With regards to the slot where the home button was, I only took that photo to show it was ever so slightly misaligned but forgot to mention it. I don't think any dust would get in there...

Review - BENTOBEN Shock Absorbing Dual Layer Hybrid TPU Slim Fit Hard Case - Black

Note: I received a discount on this case in return for reviewing it.
This case is better than others which claim to offer a huge amount of protection because it is not as bulky as most of the others. One reason could be also because it does not in fact include a cover with a built-in screen protector for the front, although there are lips which do stick up around the front to protect it when the phone is placed face down on a table.
Wireless charging works well with this case as well which can be an issue with other protective cases.
The back of the phone is a shiny plastic material which can be a fingerprint magnet to a very small extent, but that is not nearly as noticeable as an issue as the phone has on the back when it has no cover. The back is also curved on the sides like the bare phone itself, so it is very comfortable to hold.
In order to make up for some possible slipperiness on the very back, you can see by the photos included that that is more than made up for by the rubber "grippy" sides. I would have preferred the side on the phone with the volume buttons to have the same rubber material all the way up the side as the side of the phone with the power button, but that is just my preference with which everyone may not agree.
On the front, the top lip and the bottom lip around the screen are hard rubber, while the sides edges are in fact the same plastic as the center of the back of the phone. They do not fit right up to the edge of the glass the same way - so on the front you can see a little of the metal edge on the top and bottom front edges of the phone with this case. However, it is just this one 'slight flaw' that makes the next paragraph possible:
It may sound counterintuitive, but what I like most about this case is that is not only a very protective case for the phone, but it is also very easy to slip on and off the phone at the same time - the rubber and plastic pieces do not have to be pulled apart from each other to put the phone in or to take it out. Just grap a couple corners and with a little effort it will pop off - not so easy that it would ever slip off on it's own - it is very snug. It may seem like a silly thing, but I have a custom proclip holder in the car (for the bare phone) - and I like to slip my phone into that when I get into the car. As that requires removing the case and slipping it back on, when I am using the other protective cases for my phone I am forced to just not use the proclip holder those times when I am driving - except not with this case!
All in all I really like this case and I'll be using it a lot!

Screen Protector Tag-Team!

So after going through many TGSPs and finding pretty much all of them terrible, I found a off-the-wall solution that seems to tic off all of the major check marks for me:
Smooth glass-like surface
Great touchscreen sensitivity
Great optical clarity
Won't peel off (obviously)
Turns out, it's not just one solution, but a combination of two different screen protectors used in conjunction. This might be a long post but stay with me here.
First thing I tried long ago was the wet-apply TPU stuff from IQ-Shield. It's actually a great product if you put it on properly and is fairly inexpensive. The application might be a pain for some (I didn't mind it so much). But I'd always hated the texture and tackiness of the surface. Also, it's aways a bit sharp at the edges that it bothered me to hold it. And strangely, these are easy to scratch. The scratches really show on them too. They're also smudge magnet and look terrible unless thoroughly clean.
Then I tried all of the major TGSPs on the market (GPEL, ZAGG, AmazingThing and a few cheaper stuff) and while many of them looked great, the glare and touchscreen sensitivity was always anywhere between inadequate to terrible.
Then I looked in this PET(I think?) plastic stuff from G-Color
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FTUB74S..._t1_B01FTUB74I
Turns out this stuff is pretty great. It honestly feels as smooth as glass. Looks like glass. Screen sensitivity was awesome. clarity was amazing. I can also atest to it durability as well. I'd been moving my futon around a bit and had the phone perched on the the backrest. The phone fell onto the metal frame of the futon, glassface first. the impact messed up the screen protector and it got warped at the impact site, but the phone glass was fine. Great start so I ordered another immediately.
But low and behold, after another two weeks or so of usage, the edge began to lift. Turns out the silicone adhesive, which works fine on flat glass, doesn't do so well with curved glass long term.
Disappointed, I thought about ways of giving it extra adhesion then I remembered that the TPU stuff is very tacky. So I washed and re-applied (wet) the IQ-Shield stuff. I let it set until all the air and water bubbles disappeared (about two days). Then I washed the G-Color piece (it had lint and dust stuck on it). I applied that one wet as well (yes you can apply PET protectors wet) right on top of the IQ-Shield. Gave it another few ways days to set and the bubbles disappeared. I was astonished by the results. I got all of the things I was look for above. I tried force peeling the edge off and I was very surprised how hard it was to do. I gave it three weeks and it had been flawless.
I went and bought another G-Color piece (this time in white). Of course taking the first (gold) one off you probably have to reapply the TPU one underneath. A second round of thorough washing and reapplying the IQ-Shield (I didn't have to buy a new one. As long as you wash it correctly with dish soap and are careful, you can reuse them). Once again, let it set over a couple of days.
Since it was the first time I applied the new G-Color piece, I applied it dry as instructed on package. You'd only need to apply the PET stuff wet if you're reapplying for second time after washing. The first time should be dry using the guide stickers. The results were similar (maybe a bit better since I was using a brand new G-Color piece). It's been a month and a half now. Flawless. Well almost: Since I applied the G-Color with white bezel over a black phone, its white part is not as bright-white as it could be. More like a white-grey, but unless you butt it up to another white phone, you won't notice. The gold one looks completely gold.
So now I have a phone protected by two layers. The two layers together are also a bit thinner than a single TGSP. It looks completely like glass and I've been amazed how scratched resistant it has been. They're also smudge and fingerprint resistent.
Another check mark that might matter to some, but not me: Case-friendliness. Those that have such cases, this might not work so well since this goes pretty close to the edge of the glass. It does leave about a .5mm around the edge. I personally would have liked it to go all the way to the edge but I don't know how that would effect the adhesion. None of my cases wrap around the edge of the glass so it never affected me at all.
Hope this helps someone.
Tip: When applying wet after washing with dish soap, try not to completly wash off the dish soap. A bit of dish soap remaining will help you with positioning the protector since it will allow you to slide it around a bit. Once you're in position, pressing down (especially around the home button, ear speaker and camera cut-outs) will hold it in place while you squeegy the remaining water out. I like to use my finger and roll it to push water out. Try not to slide you finger across the surface as it might catch and pull the protector out of position. Don't worry about air or water bubbles too much. They will slowly disappear over a few days.

Thanks for those VERY complete tips, I shall follow your guidelines reapplying my TGSP!
Just curious how your solution is holding up. I just bought an S7 edge, so I'm in the market for a good screen protection solution. This sounds like a pain, but it also sounds like it may just be worth it!
TIA!

PhantomSkinz for the 5T

Some days ago I was given the opportunity by @Guru from PhantomSkinz, a company based in the USA, to review their phoneskin/full body protector for the Oneplus 5T. Because I'm living in Europe, I had to pay the shippingcosts myself. This was something around 12usd. Yesterday I received the skins and today I applied them to my 5T.
One the website I had choosen the ultraclear skin with stretch-guard technology. This strech-guard technology protects the phone extra form sudden impact like when the phone falls on the ground. Guru also added the snake skin which also had my attention, so that one is for later to try.
PACKAGING
The product itself comes nicely packed.
The package comes with:
- screenprotectors (2x)
- back filmprotector
- microfiber cloth
- application spray
Here are some pictures of the filmprotectors which came in my package.
Screenprotectors:
Back filmprotector
Snakeskin
As you can see on the picture of the Snakeskin, it's quite textured, so it should add some extra grip. But Guru told the the clear protector properly would add some more grip. And I guess it does.
INSTALLATION
On their website there is an instuctionvideo of how the skin can be applies to the phone. It's quite an easy process. You thouroughly clean you screen, put some spray on the screen, put some spray on the back of the protector and apply it to the screen, make shure it fits properly and then remove gently the water using a (credit)card or any other card wrapped inside the microfiber cloth. There is really not much else to it.
I first applied the screenprotector. After applying it I freaked out a bit, the screen wasn't as clear as in the instructionvideo. Not even close. There were a lot of spots and smudges under the screenprotector. Had I done something wrong???
After a few seconds I remembered I had this once before with an other screenprotector on an other phone. I remembered the smudges and spots disappeared after time. One hour later, the smudges and spots were not as severe as they used to be in the beginnen. There are still some spots on the screen, but I guess they will go away after some time.
So after applying the front it was time to apply the back. Same procedure.
One thing I noticed was that the ultra clear protector doesn't have protection for the side of the phone, where the Snakeskin does have side protection. I'm not shure why this is the case, but I guess it hase something to do with thickness of the ultraclear protector because of the stretch-guard technology. Not every skin has this protection. But still, when the phone falls on the ground and it falls on its side, then there is no protection there... On the top, bottom and corners there is the extra protection. And man oh man oh man, those cutouts are precise!!! Haven't had a protector before with such precise cutouts. Maybe around the camera it's a bit too precise, because next to the camera bump there stays a tiny little airbubble. At this time I can't get this air bubble to go away. I rub it away with the microfiber cloth but after some time it there again. Time will tell. For the camera glass itself there is also a protection film. It was a bit of a struggle to peel of the protectionfilm that was sticking on it, but I managed to get it off.. Make shure you have some nails to peel it of
As you can properly see on the picture, there where the 5T logo is, there are many tiny airbubbles. Let's hope these will also go away after time.
The days after
Looks like all the bubbles are going away.
All that there is left are some tiny airbubbles of which I hope they will also disappear over time.
The 5T logo is still not looking very nice, but let's hope this will also get better over time
All the bubble are gone now. Only at the camera bumb there is some air under the film, and at the 5T logo there is some air left. Not really a big deal. I guess the cutout of the camera is just a little bit too tight. I'll see what I can do with a hair dryer.
DAILY USE
I've been using the phone with the full body skin for almost a day now. It feels like the skin is getting/feeling/looking better after some time.
Like mentioned before, the responsiveness is just great. The screenprotector also feels great when swiping with the fingers or typing.
The grip is actually quite amazing. When holding the phone in the hand after a few seconds it feels like the phone is sticking to the fingers on the back of the phone. It feels really grippy at that point.
Yesterday I said the thing was a fingerprint magnet. Today it doen't feel like that anymore. Fingerprints are still visible, but not really worse compared to other screenprotectors. Sometimes it feels like there are a lot of fingerprints, and other moments I feel like there are hardly any fingerprints. But if there are fingerprints and smudges, then they can be wiped off quite easily.
CONCLUSION
So there you have it. Overall I think this can be an amazing screen/full body protection for the phone. There are still some tiny airbubbles underneath the skin, but I expect them to disappear in the upcoming days. For now this skin feels like an actual winner. There are hardly any negative points I can think of. The biggest 'mistake' is that there is the clear skin doesn't wrap the sides of the phone. I'll have to ask @Guru or the customersupport why this is the case. But overall, it looks en feels great.
+ The skin really is ultraclear, so you preserve the beautifull looks of the phone
+ The ultraclear protector actually adds some extra grip. I have to find out over time if it's enough for me.
+ The cutouts are amazingly precise. Haven't seen this precize before (already tried, dbrand, skinnova and slickwraps on different phones)
+ Applying the skin is quite ease. Just take your time.
+ The ultraclear protector has self healing technology, so if it scratched, it fills up the scratch itself.
+ Responsiveness of the screen isn't affected.
+ No rainbow effect or whatsoever like seen on many glass protectors.
+ Fingerprints and smudges can be wiped off easily
- There is no cutout for the front camera, time will tell if this is a problem with taking pictures, face recognition seems to work without any problems.
- With the ultraclear protector there is no side protection.
- Fingerprints visible.
- Around the camerebump the protector seems to be a tiny bit too tight
Ps, you can probably tell English is not my native language. If you have any tips on how to correct some spelling/grammar mistakes, please send me a PM. Any other questions can be asked here in this topic.
Can you post after images please
