trying to update PRL on LG G4 - Sprint LG G4

I am not able to update PRL on this phone. I was trying to update it to Corporate PRL. Tried the Basic Flasher, CDMA workshop and QPST. First one completes, but prl stays the same after reboot, second and third ones return errors. QPST is provides a more descriptive error messsage NV_HDR_AN_AUTH_NAI_I = NV_READONLY_S , so it looks like we can't even change the prl without root. That's annoying.
The only version of QPST that recognizes this phone is QPST 2.7 build 422 found here http://www.androidbrick.com/download/latest-qpst-2-7-build-422-qfil/ I was able to get my MSL with Basic Flasher..
Has anyone else tried to update PRL or enable wifi tethering via APN?

on older phones CDMA Workshop & QPST could do it without root. They used to be able to write to EFS regardless of Android permissions

even after getting root unable to write custom prl with any method

You probably can't write PRL without a bootloader unlocked, which may not ever happen on our capitalism versions of the G4. My guess is that you'll have to wait.

You cannot write PRL on HTC M9 either even with an unlocked bootloader, root and s-off.
It will reset on boot.

It appears the moto x pure is the same... any updates on this?

How do I get Gingerbead on a S-On IS

Ok I just got my IS and I am in America. I go to update and it says I am up to date. I see you can not root the S-on yet so i am stuck in 2.2.1. Also do you get OTA updates if you are in the US for this phone.
Use my downgrade guide, but dont use the version changer and use a goldcard, should've work.

I doubt it ...
Running unlocked on T-Mobile and AT&T and I bet we'll never get an OTA update... ever.
Quick Guide with S-on:
1, Download one of the official RUU rom (name comes with "signed")
2, Make a Goldcard - will take you 5-20 minutes computer work.
3, Run the RUU rom .exe, keep click next->next->next->..........

Has anybody actually managed to do this with a Bell IS, though? Mine is unlocked on AT&T, and I have yet to try it, because I haven't found anybody that's done it successfully. Most posts that I've seen say they get an error, that the goldcard method won't work on a Bell IS for some reason.

hi all,
i know that we can use gold card to update to the UK gingerbread rom from our s-on IS irregardless of the IS region (i.e. asia, hk, etc).
But can we use the gold card to downgrade back to 2.2 official firmware (e.g. 1.38.707.1)?
We are not dependant on T-Mobile USA for the updates, they have no way of tracking. Once HTC releases 2.3 we can download direct over data or WiFi

That's exactly right. The phone calls home to check for an update and uses whatever data network available to do so.
It is in no way, shape or form carrier tied.

I tend to believe you, but I had emailed HTC a few weeks ago asking about this exact topic. Here's their response:
With OTA software upgrades, it's a bit iffy. In some circumstances, update sofware is provided to local stores, who should be able to update the phone for you (policies on this differ from carrier to carrier, where some may be okay with updating an unlocked phone, and others won't).
Sometimes, a downloadable version can be found on our website for the phone in question:
http://www.htc.com/ca/support/incredibles-bell/downloads/
Each device has a specific address that it checks for its updates. Theoretically, the unlocking process shouldn't change that. Your device should still continue to recieve updates, however, it really depends on Bell's update policy when it comes to phones no longer on their network.

[Q] No OTA Updates

Hey!
I can't seem to get the OTA updates. I rooted and unlocked the bootloader, do you think that has to do with it? I've read several people that say they've gotten such updates, but I've been using the phone for two weeks now and I haven't received not even one.
EDIT: Already tried unroot and flashing the original recovery. None worked.

I don't think so, however, if you made any changes to your /system directory the OTA will probably fail.

It depends on which model you have. If you have a model with an unlockable bootloader, you can just re-root when you're done in the same way as you did initially. If you used an exploit on a locked (AT&T/Verizon/Republic) model to get root, it's pretty much guaranteed that you won't be able to get root after the update, and I wouldn't count on another exploit showing up anytime soon, if ever.
You can flash OTA updates while rooted, as long as nothing else is modified or missing from /system and you don't have custom recovery. The update won't remove the su binary either, but permissions will be messed up so it will seem like you're unrooted after you restart.

Make sure the rom you are on is as close to stock as possible.
Downgrading to a KK rom = yes
Downgrading firmware = no
Easiest way to run Sunshine is to RUU.

My problems would be solved if I could downgrade the firmware, I did install a unsecured Kernel but it did not matter.

Most of that is really old and no longer works (so far)
Use the most recent sprint ruu to return to stock
I just went through this yesterday. I was having the same problem.
I'm on sprint so my solution should apply.
1. Return to stock with the sprint Lollipop ruu
2. Get unlock from htcdev - - > unlock your bootloader
3. Flash the latest version of twrp
4. Boot into twrp, then reboot system.
4a. Twrp should prompt you to install su and obtain root
4b. Let twrp root your system.
5. Let the phone complete the su install via twrp
6. Get sunshine s-off
7. Pay $25
8. Enjoy s-off
I was able to reach the hidden screen and select the "sim lock" but backing out and rebooting from the sim unlock helper screen did not work.
I had to select "reboot" from the same menu located just a couple of items up from the Sim lock selection. Make sure "Data" is on and GSM is selected.
I was successful only on the "Viper 1.0.0 rom.
I now have a working T-mobile connection..

Use the global version of this ROM, it has apnconfig.xml from global G4 and there is a great chance you'll have the right apn, anyway you'll be able to create your own ones!
Maybe you'll need to type ##3282# in the dialer, go to the apns menu & reset settings to default
