[Q] Edit APN Data Settings on Unlocked Device? - Sprint LG G4

I've got an unlocked LGLS991 and wanted to edit the APN settings for GSM use.
It looks like there is no option to edit the network settings under the network menu and the ##3282# menu only allows me to view APN settings, not add or edit.
Do I need to poke around in hidden menus? Or is there an easy way to get the APN settings configured?
Thanks.

Believe you can get the service code (MSL) needed to edit the settings by calling Sprint or doing live chat with support on their website.

you do not have to contact Sprint to get your MSL/SPC - method described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521276
I was hoping to enable wifi tethering via ##3282#-->APN settings but "APN Type" is not part of the APN settings anymore.
You can add or edit APNs so if you click edit and enter MSL

Those are 4 different APNs you already have. You can click on each one and will get and View/Edit prompt.

Try using QuickShortcutMaker, search for hidden, tap Service Programu, then IOT Hidden Menu, then tap Try, LTE setting, APN Setting. Long press the square button to access menu, and add a new APN. I added dun to APN type under intenet to enable tethering. You might need to enable UICC Unlock. Hope this helps.

What APN's are folks using
Good Morning,
I was wondering from looking at this thread I don't see any APN's that are options to change to. Does anyone have a list of the ones that are available and breakdown of what they should do for our service?

If youre on sprint you shouldn't even have to deal with APN's you more than likely will not a GSM sim carrier in your device to open the APNS to edit.

could you please share the ota files or go to carrier/app and up load the two files for us to unlock LS991 ?
and apn you just need to root and replace apn .xml in your system/etc and 3282 to apn reset it it worked for me
but i replaced the two files with LS996 , I got single data message but still have a big problem my phone can't hang up or call in

Shorcut master lite APK or Offline SIM APN Database APK its to easy

I did follow your instruction but come to Try and it can't continue, mine is LS991 ZV8 6.0

you can try editing build prop "ro.carrier" from sprint to OPEN and that gives added settings when you open up the setting app..try it

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3258362
I know it's unrelated sort of, but you can edit apn settings without root, msl, etc by this method

Make sure you specifically "save" the setting after you change it. Hold down the square button, and a little menu will pop up, where you can select the save option. If instead you just make the change and back out without manually selecting save, it will not save your changes.

Anyone has fixed apn issue on Sprint?
I've already did too as post above but still no data .... APN can edit in shortcutmenu but still greyed and can't edit on APN ( at network setting).
Please help me ....

I noticed it likes to reset it self(APN settings). You can make a new one and it will still try to change mms settings back to default.
I changed network settings automatic option to LTE so hopefully it stays put without sprint intervention.

I am not sure its relevant anymore, but i was having a lot of issue with respect to setting up apn on my sprint unlocked lg3 ls990.
finally after rooting my phone i downloaded and installed "offline sim apn database" apk and even though it was not able to write to the apn directly, it did have an option to manually allow me to open it for manual entry, and after i created a new apn with my operator details (vodafone india) and saved it, it started working.......if anyone still has not been able to resolve it by any method mentioned above, then try this.
P.S...this idea is not mine, it was written by someone here at xda developers but why i posted separately was because even though this apk wasnt able to write directly, it managed to open the hidden menu, which i was not able to get to using any other method.

After updating to zvb it says u need extra permission.
Does that mean i need to root the device? I messed up :crying:

Setting Util
Okay, I believe I found another way to edit/add APN. Use QuickShortcutMaker, search for "Setting Util", hit try, then tap "Change PROPERTIES" set it to match your operator and/or country, or try a GSM carrier, and hit confirm. Go to settings, more, and APN menu should now be accessible. You can now add your APN. Don't forget to hit save cause once your phone reboots it will lockup again, but your APN settings should stay.
Also, you will need MSL, as you have to set MMSC in the ##DATA# dialer menu, delete the IP and Port fields, or you will not get proper multimedia messages. Once done your phone will reboot.
I tried this with both a Sprint and T-Mobile SIM in the phone, if your APN setting doesn't match your SIM it will not be visible, but it will save. Also if you have not changed your network to LAB in the IOT hidden menu prior to ZVB, I believe you will get the annoying Sprint hands free activation message.

Sprint Roaming Guard Greyed Out Fix.

Hello
I am not a developer but I have a solution to roaming guards if you have root. I am a very tech savvy person and usually modify all my phone's on my on.
Here we go and I am not responsible for anything that could go wrong. Don't worry this is fairly simple computer programming.
1. Make sure you have root.
2. Download SQLite editor from the play store.
3. Open SQLite editor and go to the root of your phone.
4. Open data/data/com.android.providers.settings
5. Open Setting.db and select secure.
6. Scroll to and highlight data_roaming_guards_blocked and hit the pencil to edit.
7. Change wording to data_roaming_guards_allowed and save.
8. Scroll to and highlight voice_roaming_guard_blocked and hit pencil to edit.
9. Change wording to voice_roaming_guard_allowed and save.
10. There is no need to reboot just go directly to settings, mobile data and roaming guards. You should be able to select and deselect.
I hope this works for you and if it does let's put it out there. Lots of people have this problem and it took me several days to figure this out.
I'm not sure what you are referring to, can you take a screen shot of it

roaming guard
Not every phone has this problem. Some Sprint m8,s roaming guards were unselectable. You would no if you had this issue. Sprint is very aware of the software issue. I will try and find a screen shot. Also the file written, I tried to get it put in the development section.

with the unlimited plan at tmobile, they give you a max of 3gb for tethering(unless you buy more). do you have root or are you stock?

if you have root, theres an app called wifi tether router that when you use, tmobile doesnt know that you are tethering. theres also a system mod that changes some files thatll keep tmobile away as well.
Yeah I'd like to find out the way to use the stock hotspot and not have T-Mobile find out.

then there is a thread here about editing some system file that will help you out. i dont know where it is, so youll have to search(its probably within 4 pages of the n6 general/q&a sections.
That thread was for Verizon. I got it tho. Added "dun" to APN type and I'm good.

Nope turns out you have to modify the build prop as well. I took that last line out and rebooted and I lost tether again. Added it back just now and I got tether back.
So add dun in the APN type and add the no provisioning line to the end off the build prop.

Thanks, Hopefully I can get this to work on my Nexus 6 for T-Mobile.
1a. Use a VPN on connected devices. 1b. Search xda for an app called dnsqache, and follow the github readme on how to set it up, I will warn you though that your MMS messages might not transmit if you do not have dns2 set as what you get when you run the terminal command "getprop net.dns2" and use a browser with a user agent switcher set to your browser except showing a Linux OS
I've added the net.provision whatever and added ,dun to APN type. Running euphoria and my tethering is working fine
Most important is the build.prop change and adding ,dun to APN type. Then you shouldn't have any problems

I was able to work around the issue by modifying the following sqlite database (you'll need root):
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
You need to add a new entry to the global table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0.
It looks like you need to do this because some configuration data was added to Android for T-mobile that forwards tethered data to this APN: pcweb.tmobile.com
T-mobile is probably checking to see if your account has tethering enabled when you go through this APN.
After I made this change I also needed to change my APN settings so that it uses ipv4 instead of ipv6. It seems like tethering with ipv6 does not work 100% yet.

That's correct I used SQLite editor because I'm lazy sometimes and its easy when you flash a fresh ROM. I have a screenshot below of what it looks like.
I also added " ,dun " to the end of my APN type in the APN settings. No issues so far.

Can't Access Apn settings

Hello,
I was hoping someone could help me with my issue. I'm trying to access my APN settings but my option is missing there's no way to access the setting. I was wondering if this issue is isolated to just me or all LG g4 sprint users. I was hoping to create a new apn. Please assist!
Edit: I'd like to specify I'm on lollipop ZV5 stock rooted.
Thank you!
I'd like to add this SS to show you it's missing. It should be under connection optimizer.
Weird....mine just has APN settings. Might want to update the rom to ZV6.

Unlimited hotspot tethering on sprint samsung galaxy s7

A alternate way of unlocking your hotspot on your galaxys7 without the need of root:good:
You are going to need the MSL code for you phone
Which can be obtained by calling customer service and asking them (this is the way i did it) or just go to you nearest sprint shop and ask them for the code.
(If they ask why you want the code, just say its for your personal info or interest)
Once you have your code, go to your phone dialer and dial the following: ##3282#
Than you will prompted to write your MSL code
After typing your code, you will be presented to a menu, on that menu you are going to search for "APN SETTINGS" than you are going to search for APN2 EHRPD Internet APN2 LTE internet, and on both you are going to search for the following: "default, mms"
And once you found the "default, mms", you are going to edit it to : default, mms, dun (just add: ",dun" at the end).
Once you have finished editing, just reboot your phone
And you just unlocked unlimited hotspot and tethering

Really thats wierd , because yesterday i called customer service for my msl, and than i proceeded to unlock the hotspot without no problem.
Also before i did recieve my msl code, i did try to unlock the hotspot feature just using SHORTCUT MASTER, but couldn't becuase it was grayedout and unable to be interactive.
But when i tryed using the methods that sprint technicians use (the msl code method) i was able to unlock the feature.

Well **** didn't know that. What version are you running with U firmware
PG1 ..most recent
Shortcutmaster is easy, just type "Apn" in th he search engine, than look in the options that it provides you, tap on the apn option that end in the word settings ( ex. Apn................settings). And than you will be prompted to press " launch" (it a menu bar that says: launch, home, ect.) After that its the same procedure as if using a msl code
The only down fall to this, is that you need root for it to work ( to ungray the options need to fix). The things needed to unlock the apn's grayed.
But if it works for you without encountering any problems just share the info with others
Even the msl code method is showing up to some people grayed.
I tryed using both method on my fathers s7, and i encounterd this issue.
My guess is that it has to be with something with the build or serial number or some thing distinguish them from each other. Cuz for some it both methods work, but for others they need root to acomplish this.

Yo its true what you where saying about the apns being grayed out.
My guess is that its not in all samsung s7.
That's apparently sprint catching wind and doing something. Glad I don't take updates with new phones like that

APN Settings ghosted/grayed?

I'm trying to change my APN settings on my phone and the settings are ghosted/grayed out and will not allow me to change anything. Also new APN will not save.
Anybody know how to fix this?
Btw... I'm on stock ROM rooted with Franco kernel and T-Mobile is my carrier. Previous phone was a never 5x with same SIM. No problems.
Having the same problem here. T-Mobile support is asking me to change APN settings to troubleshoot network speed, but I'm unable to do so.

Yeah, the default APNs are all grayed out but you can add APN for sure, I did it and it sticks too. see attachment.
When I inserted SIM card, the default APNis the one on top GPRS, I found data speed is slow. So I added one which is US LTE one.

Thanks Lancez. I also tried adding a new one. I tapped save in the menu, but it did not get added to the list. I wonder if it's a bug in the particular build we're on. I'm currently running ONEPLUS A3000_28_170208.

I'm on the latest 4.0.3 build, should be same one as yours.
You can try to restore default APN from drop down menu then add new APN

I had also tried to restore default, but it didn't help.
I did just manage to get it to work. I added a new APN with the name "test" and was able to save. I was then able to go in and edit it to match the settings t-mobile had suggested to me.
Unfortunately the new settings did not help with my speed issue.
Thanks again for the help Lancez.

There's another thing, after you edited your APN, go to phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#* > phone info > from the first drop down menu choose LTE/UMTS auto (PRL) > back out of settings > reboot, you should be able to get much better data speed.
And from SIM & network settings, there's Prederred network type, don't select anything in there, leave them all blank. otherwise above settings will be reverted back.
What APN settings did T-mo CS told you? care to share with us? it'll save us sometime over the phone.
Oh, I'd appreciate If you can click on the thanks button below my name

Argh, I am a dummy. I tried scrolling down, but not up. Thanks again.
I changed the setting, but my speed is still about the same.
T-mobile is now telling me that they are making improvements in my area that should resolve this in the future. Though don't know if they were just saying that to get rid of me. I've gone from what used to be 50+Mbps in November to between 1 and 5 Mbps now.

That's not good, I tested my settings last night and I got close to 70mb and 36mb just now. I have the same APN settings as yours. I'm in LA area tho.

I'm in LA as well. Playa Del Rey.
---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ----------
I also have two different phones on the account. Which are both getting similar speed results. So seems likely it's got to either be an account or network issue. Though I figured it couldn't hurt to play along and try the updated APN settings to further rule it out.
