Successfully rooted 20.1.A.2.19 KitKat 4.4.2 with Root Genius! - Sony Xperia E1

Hi everyone! Yesterday I updated my new Sony E1 phone (D2005) to the latest firmware 20.1.A.2.19 with KitKat 4.4.2, and tried to root it with Root Genius 2.2.6: it worked! I just had to install first the ADB drivers shipped with FlashTool and then used Root Genius to root the device. It was as simple as that! I'd like to know if it was just me being lucky or this procedure can be applied to every E1.

Hello Atanor7,
thank you for information. I'll try this asap.
Do you flash a new rom or upgraded from previous one?
Did you remove Genius after boot? Don't install Genius too much bloatwares?

I upgraded from stock firmware via PC Companion (the phone is brand new, purchased yesterday, 70 euros!), then used Genius to root. It's a Windows program, so you have to install nothing on your device, just the ADB drivers on your PC (I used a VM to install so bloatware wasn't an issue for me). After rooting, Genius automatically installs Kinguser to manage root permissions.

As boatware, I spoke about Kinguser, supposed to be replaced by Supersu
another question: do you kept your settings after upgrade (apps, screens, sms, calls, wifi points, bt devices, ...)?

I can't tell you about that, the phone was new so didn't have any personalization yet, the only settings I made (WiFi, couple of apps) were kept.
Do you think I should replace Kinguser with SuperSU?

Ok, after reading about how KingUser could be a "tricky" app I switched to SuperSU: the "SuperSU-me" app from the store did the job quick and flawlessly. Thank you for your advice

Install this app from the Play Store: "Super-Sume" and run it. Hit the button and... it does it all, wipes Kinguser and replaces it with SuperSU, works like a charm!

Thank you for your advice Atanor7, I think I am late for that since I tried to use Super-Sume to replace Kinguser app but it didn't work on my case.
It's good to know that it worked on yours because next time if I reflash my phone I will try to use Super-Sume again.
in my case, I went for old fashion root after unsuccessful attempts on using Super-Sume, I flashed 20.1.A.29 then flashed back the kernel and root with towelroot then flashed back 20.1.A.29 kernel after rooted.

[Q] Rooting Sony Xperia V (locked bootloader) but do backup first? But how?

Hi Guys,
I am totally newbie here. I just got my Sony Xperia V, I found a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277334
And then, in the post by imk82, he said he must do a backup first with Sony's backup app before he finally able to root Sony Xperia V with Bin4ry method with no problem in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41457358&postcount=2861
But I have no idea what does he mean by "Sony's Backup-app".
Someone could tell me more specific about it?
Is it App in Google Play or is it PC Companion?
And why is it related?
Thanks.
Furthermore, there seems 2 options to root Xperia V
If you look at the source of the script, you will see...
echo 1) Normal
echo 2) Special (for example: Sony Tablet S, Medion Lifetab)
echo 3) New Xperia Root by Goroh_kun (Xperia Z, Xperia V [JellyBean] ...)
echo G) Google Glass Mode (thx Saurik for the ab file)
Seems either 1 or 3 can be chosen to root Xperia V, but what's the different? I couldn't find the info anywhere
a backup is not essential.
I have never heard of rooting destroying any files. (*But that is no gurentee)
You need option 3 for jellbean

Hi thanks for reply.
I finally found the guide here (hxxp://talk.sonymobile.com/message/398680#398680), it's quite simple
I copy paste the guide here :
How to root Xperia T and Xperia V ( 9.1.A.1.140 )
Go to settings > Security > Mark "Unknown sources"
Settings > Developer options > Mark USB debugging
Download the Rooting Toolkit > Link 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 and extract it. Run it and select Normal Mode , press enter. Now connect your phone, follow the on-screen instructions it shows.

Based on this guide, we should choose No.1 Normal Mode.
But you said we should choose No.3, now I got confuse

Hi, since I use my xperia in German I'm not sure about English menu. But try like this:
There should be an app already installed at your xperia. Called Backup & Restore (or similar) - the icon is round and looks a little bit like a door of a safe / vault, colors are mostly white and some red. Start this app and follow instructions.
Hope it helps you.

Yes I am JB, it's 9.1.A.1.140
So must choose No. 3
What is the No.1 then? A bit curious, is it for different version of firmware?
No. 1 is for ICS based firmwares

I tried the method Bin4ry gave, but the root was not working well, for example when I run Titanium Backup it's asking for permissions thousands times.
Then I installed BusyBox from the market, and after that rooted with this method - Motochopper, it installs SuperSU, and then the applications ask the SuperSU for permissions only once and its working fine now.
You can safely delete the Superuser and BusyBox Free after that, only SuperSU is needed.
I am not sure though which I did first, the Motochoper root or the BusyBox installer.

[ROOT] SGP312 FTF 10.3.1.C.0.136 Root (No need OTA)

Hi
I have tested the root tool from China forum. My device is SGP312 WIFI 32GB 10.3.1.C.0.136. No need to unlocked.
Download the attachment and install. One click and then it will reboot. It is rooted!
But the root-mangement software is Chinese. You can download Supersu or Superuser.
Use the Chinese root software to give Supersu or Superuser root access.
Run Supersu or Superuser and upgrade the binary. Exit and uninstall the Chinese root software.
Reboot. Then you are rooted with Supersu or Superuser.
This is the original link: http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
incredible...works on sgp321 .244......good job....juat install supersu afterwards and remove the chinese app....greatttttt
Good! I can confirm it works, just rooted my still locked SGP311FR with it.
What I don't like it's an exe file, install the app then run it to root.
If someone can extract the script and replace the root apk by superSU it would be cool.
Also I noticed while rooting my tablet that the screen became white two times (really fast for less than a second, sort of blink) like the Display tricks that were used before to root our xperia's.
Anyway thanks.
Btw : @insideccw posting a link to the source, and maybe the name of the autor of this tool, would be better if it's not your own tool.

That's pretty much what I did. I've tried SuperSU, superuser, and the cwm app. The problem seems to be that the updated binaries don't "stick", SuperSU claimed updating was a success but then prompted me to do so every time I opened it.

I don't know if the info in this thread may be of any use : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539711.
Specifically in the OP :
Remember, if you remove older first without installing newer one, you will lose Root n newer won't run.
One more thing market version will be regular application, so hard reset can delete it. So better install with flashable zip, to make it system application.
And in Post #8 :
Confirmed working fine! Recommended to install via CWM. It will replace the other (superuser) automatically so you don't have to manually remove it.
I used the above zip file and instructions a long time ago on my Galaxy S....but it may still be relevant for Tablet Z.
What I've been doing us installing from the play store, updating binaries, and then removing the Chinese app. Once I do that, I lose root in the market superSU and other root apps.
I'll probably end up unlocking the boot loader and flashing an image over adb.
Thanks for the help!

It worked for me...I accidentally removed the Chinese app.
1. I did a reroot again.
2. installed dualrecovery and flashed the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip.
3. It works now.
Supersu and cwm superuser caused my phone to go in a reboot loop when I tried updating the binaries. Superuser by ChainsDD is working fine though.

insideccw,
Any tips on how t go about correcting this? Would I need to use adb or can I handle this form within android?
EDIT: Looks like others are having the same issue.
Doesn't work with SGP321 LTE tablet (on the newest firmware .244)
1. in order to uninstall the chinese root app one needs to have SuperSu
2. once you install SuperSU the root checker shows "OK, you're rooted"
3. once you get rid of the chinese root the root checker shows "you're NOT rooted" and the SuperSU binaries can't get updated (strange it needs another update)

For those of you having this issue as I was, I just got mine to work with SuperSU. Hopefully these steps will work for you too:
-Gain root with the magical Chinese root tool
-install SuperSU
-update SuperSU binaries
-in SuperSU settings, choose "Switch superuser app"
-reboot the tablet and immediately go to the playstore and install SuperSU
-update SuperSU binaries
Let me know if it works!

To change the Superuser app simply go to the playstore and install a one of your liking like Superuser or SuperSU. Once you have the one of your liking install System App Remover and remove the old one. It's as simple as that.
To unroot you need to use flashtool to flash stock ftf to your phone or do a repair via PC Companion or SUS.
Tried to reroot using Kingo as well, but didn't work. So I followed these steps to replace the Chinese SuperUser with the English SuperSU:

Super_Sume make all this "work" with one click !
Ok guys, thanks for confirming, Sweet
Thanks for the tip. This worked perfectly. I installed Kingroot 4.5. When Kingroot runs scroll down and press "Try it" and it rooted. I then immediately installed Busybox from the Google Play store and ran the smart installer. After a successful install of Busybox, I then installed Super-Sume from the Play store. I ran Super-Sume and it installed Super SU and removed Kingroot. After that, I opened Super SU and allowed it to update the binary. Rebooted. I checked root with Root Checker app and checked Knox with an app called Knox Status on the Play store. Root is still active and Knox is still at "0". I powered off, then restarted again. Root has stayed.
I did this on a brand new US region SM-T700 pulled straight from the box and updated to Lolilipop from OTA.
System Version:
SM-T700
LRX22G.T700XXU1BOE3
*ROOT WORKING !! SMT-700 OTA 'lollipop'
Confirmed working on Lollipop NEE-T805XXU1BOE3 firmware.
Reflashed back to complete stock then ran Kingroot v4.5, root succeeded first time.
Ran Supersu me to remove Kingroot and install Supersu then updated the su binary.
Rebooted then checked root status. Full root access still available.
No need to install busybox as Supersu me already installs busy box.
Looks like we have a winner, no need to downgrade to Kitkat any more. :good:
Hopefully now T807/707 users can now get root.
Credits go to the devs of Kingroot, Chainfire and Supersu me.

Do you think this is likely to work for KitKat ANL1? I already downgraded as part of Ashyx's tutorial to ANF7.
My only reservation to going to Lollipop is that I want to use the Xposed framework which I think is still in it's infancy for 5.x or still not compatible.
So before this my options are to keep the original Kitkat by Flashfire - ANL1 or go directly to Lollipop. For the latter I could just get the OTA and do this method now. But not sure if I go to ANL1 kingroot will work as easily
If not I'll continue in the normal way I guess.
Once you have root with Kingroot install Super Sume and run it.
Kingroot 4.5 from ashyxs tread works for me.
Super-Sume just install busybox, SuperSu and get rid of Kingroot.
Why not use Flashfire to install whatever you want: KK or L ?

[SOLVED] Safe to continue?? or start again? please help

This is driving me nuts... I was on 5.1.1 and I am trying to get it rooted.
I'm following a guide which goes like this..
1. downgrade to kitkat 4.4 using flashtool
2. root 4.4
3. Install custom recovery
4. Flash 5.1.1 pre-rooted zip
I have had problem after problem and I think something may have screwed up along the way.
I finally managed to get kitkat installed using flashtool and a generic C6903 .108 ftf.
Problem 1... I used 'Easy Root tool' from xda to root kitkat... but it seemed to hang at the cleaning up' stage - is this a problem?
Problem 2... every time I restart my phone - kitkat asks what language etc. Whats that all about?
PROBLEM 3. The guide Im following says to install busybox after rooting kitkat.
I've tried 2 different busybox installers and both of them fail when trying to install bb.
QUESTION: Are these 3 problems linked and will it prevent me from continuing with the guide I am trying to follow??? i.e. do I need busybox to install XZ Dual Recovery and therefore a pre-rooted zip?
Root Checker basic says kitkat is rooted, as does the first busybox installer.
I'm taking a short break from this nightmare, so in the meentime if any of you chaps could advise me on whether or not its ok to continue or if I have fecked up the whole process, that would be great.
Thanks in advance
problem 1 : re run the installer again, don't use administrator mode
problem2 : use any simcard on your phone
others, sorry i have no idea, you could download busybox from playstore ?
I would just start over and try a different root program. busybox is failing to install because the root didn't work.

Problem1... thank you, I'll try again
Problem2... Thanks. I thought It could be the lack of a SIM card and then I thought no! that can't be it lol... as usual - I was wrong ha
others... yeah mate, tried 2 different installers from play store - no joy with either.
Thanks for your help

Cheers bud, I'll try 'easy root tool' once more without admin priv, if its the same story I'll start over and try a different root tool. Any suggestions on that?
Also: how come root checker says I'm all good and rooted but busybox wont install? even one of the busybox installers says "Your device is rooted"!?!?
Thanks for all the help mate
i think you don't have supersu installed, and busy box couldn't get root rights
so download supersu from playstore, open it and update binaries as normal, then reboot
and you would be able to install bb

Try the suggestion made by @Gamer4Life, just in case you somehow got root but it failed to install the APK needed to manage it. Might save you some work. That would explain why everything thinks you're rooted.
As for an alternative, if you still need it, I think I used kingroot successfully on 4.4.4.

Thanks mate. I was hoping Gamer4life might be right as there was no Supersu installed.
I installed supersu from play store no problem... but when I try to update binaries it says' update failed. Please reboot and try again.'. tried reboot but same story.
I guess I'll try 'easy root tool' again and then will give kingroot a bash if needbe.
One last pre-emptive question...
If I root kitkat using kingroot... should I replace kinguser with supersu before proceeding with XZDR and a pre-rooted zip or will kinguser be sufficient to continue.
Many thanks to you and everyone else who has tried to help me with this clusterf*ck,.. I appreciate it
can you screenshot the error you got ?
i reread your op, you don't need busybox to install dual recovery, it installs like the easy root installer, very easy
just one click and you are ready to go
also xzdualrecovery will root your device and install supersu by default if you have kitkat, so you can skip that.
edit (i don't think this will work because towelroot doesn't work on z1 4.4.4 108)

must have been a glitch in the matrix mate becuase its now working (Possibly thanks to your suggestion of installing Supersu?).
I reconnected to PC in order to give 'easy root tool' another crack at it.
As soon as I start install.bat It says checking if device is rooted AND I get a superuser request on my phone for adb.shell - Happy days!
I granted root access to adb shell and the root tool says Job Done. Root success etc.
So I disconnect and try to update su binaries and it worked first go!!!
*Touch wood* I think I'm now past the tricky part and it should be plain sailing from here on in. lol
THANKS for the help Gamer4Life, and everyone else who has chipped in.... hopefully my next post will be to report a fully rooted 5.1.1 :fingers-crossed:

Correct, TowelRoot doesn't work for this version.
