[Q] Help with downgrading from 5.0/bypassing PIE - Moto G 2014 LTE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So recently I have been trying to use shark for android and some other apps on my moto g 2nd gen (XT1072) with lolipop 5.0 however I keep encountering an error ("error, only PIE position independent excecutables are supported"). I did some research so I know what this is roughly and I also came across this thread, I had upgraded to 5.1 at the time and I tried the fix shown in the thread. This ended up putting my phone in a sort of boot loop where it would try boot up, turn off and then boot into recovery.
I also fount out that this PIE restriction was only implemented in lolipop and not in earlier roms, kitkat etc.
Long story short, I need some way of either downgrading my moto g (XT1072) lolipop 5.0 or bypassing the PIE restriction.
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

[Q] Wifi not turning on after flashing Lollipop Root

So just to summarize what I've done so far, I have a Moto G (2014) which has been updated to Lollipop through normal means. I started off following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/xt1063-t3018818/page12
The guide then lead me to this one, as my model is XT1064, a Moto G from Windmobile. I had no issues unlocking my bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/xt1064-lollipop-root-t2938051
With the guide above, after I flashed that file, my wifi would not turn on. Every time I pressed the toggle, it would immediately switch back to off. I then flashed the TWRP Recovery, and used that to finally root my device with SuperSU.
I checked my root, and my device is confirmed to be rooted, but the wifi is still not working. I looked around a little, and found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/guide-lollipop-xt1064-north-edition-t2955076
The problem with the guide above is that its for a phone that was kitkat, while my phone is already lollipop. The guide does mention the wireless issue though, so I was thinking of trying out the steps outlined in that guide, also using that file (though that file is for 4.4).
Would this work? Or is the safer bet finding an 5.0.1 stock rom, and flashing back to that?
Edit: I found a link to a 5.0.2 stock rom (which is the version my phone currently is) I think downloading that and using that to fix the modem files is the better thing to do. (link: http://www.filefactory.com/file/53c1pepzp9cp/RETCA_XT1064_5.0.2_LXB22.99-24.2_cid14_CFC.xml.zip)
Thanks for all and any help.
I recommend flashing the stock images, that will almost certainly fix your issue with Wifi.

[Q] Request: 4.4.4 retgball stock recovery

Hi guys,
Stupidly flashed TWRP a while ago for rooting purposes, without making a backup of the stock recovery for my device, thinking i'd be able to find factory images later on. I've had a good search around on Google and here, and can't find the exact one for my device, lots of 'similar', but none that are quite the same.
The end goal is to get back to stock so I can accept the 5.0+ OTAs from my carrier, which are currently blocked because of the non-stock recovery.
I have an XT1092, system version 21.21.42.victara_retgb_retgball.en.GB, currently running 4.4.4.
I did manage to find a 5.0 stock image, but fear that flashing the recovery may brick/damage the device. Everything else I've found is for RETEUALL or similar, not RETGBALL - which from what I understand won't do what i'm after, not at least without some side effects.
From asking Motorola support directly, they don't offer the stock images for this device, which I found disappointing, everything seems to be very skewed towards US builds.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I dangerously took the plunge, and the 5.0 factory image that I had found works to flash on this device.
For anyone else that had an issue around OTA updates for 5.0 on the retgball version of the phone, I followed the steps on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...tory-image-android-5-0-lollipop-moto-t3001221
But using the file http://www.filefactory.com/file/7l2t09ylrh9f/RETGBALL_XT1092_5.0_LXE22.46-19_cid7_CFC.xml.zip - which is the factory 5.0 image for the RETGBALL XT1092.
Just in case any one else is ever in the same boat!

Need Advice- Moto G (2nd Gen) Stagefright patch on rooted device incoming..

Hello folks..
I have a Moto G (2nd Gen) mobile phone with me, and had its bootloader unlocked + rooted pretty much within the week i purchased it.
I was under the impression that once the bootloader gets unlocked, i wont be getting any official upgrade notifications like that for Android Marshmallow etc. But today i been bombarded with the patch for the 'Stagefright' bug like crazy. Ignored it 4 times, but it again popped up.
Before i install it (it has been downloaded and ready for action), i just wanted to confirm if it ll be alright to go ahead with this patch? Dont want any silly boot cycles/bricking to crash my device

the boot loader unlocked is nothing to worry about it does NOT stop ota update notification or installation.
the ota update requires you to have the correct stock RECOVERY - it will work only with STOCK recovery installed NO TWRP allowed
root - well it all depends how you rooted it. It's better if you can unroot 1st but i have been told you can update OTA with root but it will probable de root phone in process.
So I would say you are 99% good to go!!! + i have 5.0.2 stock firmwares in my signature if it goes wrong (It really shouldn't!)
out of interest before you if you are on LXB22.46-28 please dont install it yet download a root file explorer go to /cache and save the blur_version.xxx.zip to pc 1st (we need this as only have lxb22.99-16 version)
Good luck

Trying to recover Moto X XT1056 to factory after OTA Marshmallow fail...

I'm in a bind and have tried almost everything that your boards have to offer.
I've been trying to extend the life of my Moto X (2013) XT1056 via rooting to do some tasker things.
The recent OTA update came out and I tried to use FlashFire to run it and it has softbricked my phone. Through TWRP, I have tried flashing the stock firmware via sideload and via loading the zip onto the deceive without success. Ultimately, I tried loading a custom ROM (EpsilonProject v3.1) which is working well, except that I have no network connectivity. I've tried almost everything but keep running into the same problem when I try to manually flash the stock firmware:
bootloader variable not supported
I've tried using the help offered in the forums to locate the file that I supposedly need to rename in the /system folder, but that file does not exist.
Any other ideas? I'm not tied to fixing this, as I've extended the life of my phone by about a year as it is. But my Moto X (2013) was working great until the forced OTA effed it. I mean, how many people actually get three years out of their smartphone nowadays? :/
Thanks for the help!

Need help returning to stock my rooted 2013 Moto X 4.4.2

Hi!
Long time no see, haven't touched android in a couple years and could use some help unrooting my Moto X. It is a verizon Moto X (2013), android 4.4.2 rooted with towel pie root.
What do I do? Read through this page but was still confused, and several of the download links weren't available. There is an update available for my phone, what would happen if I accept it while it's rooted? I'm fine to be on 5.1, just want to get the phone working for my friend. I wasn't too familiar with things back when I first rooted it but I am basically back to ground zero in the lingo and know-how
Many thanks!
