Getting stuck on Health and Safety warning screen! Please help ! - Samsung Gear VR

Before I start describing my problem - let me just state that I am 100% sure that everything is perfectly fine with my brand new Gear VR as it worked tonight flawlessly on my my wife's Note 4 - running the same 5.0.1 OS, as my Note 4 (T-mobile).
Problem is to get *MY* Note 4 working with the Gear VR.
While hers is working just fine - mine gets stuck on Health and Safety warning screen!
Just like with my wife's - when I connected my Note 4 to the Gear VR for the first time, with a nice blue and white (already working) VR/3D image it prompted me to take it off and install the appropriate software. I did and reconnected the Note to the gear VR and was awaiting the Welcome screen.
Sure enough - after the usual beep the screen came on:
a) - 1 small white spinning circle - IN THE DEAD CENTER - as it should be
b) - then the intro with the elliptical shape ferry dust animation that follows with instructions
to adjust the focus with the center ring on top.
Note: this image with focusing instructions is split to the left and right part of the screen with center being EMPTY !! I cannot turn around and look around in the room like I can if it works. The image is flat/still.
c) - then the HEALTH and SAFETY warning screen comes on.
Note: this warning image is also split with partial text thrown to the left and right part of the screen with center being EMPTY !!
More importantly - I do not see the small blue cross with which I should to aim with my head on the blue Oculus oval logo ("Look here to acknowledge" - in order to leave this screen and go to Oculus Home....and the "Look here to acknowledge" is placed to the very right of the screen, where I actually only see the word 'Look" I have to actually take the VR partially off , look deeper to the right to see "" here to acknowledge"
Both of our Note 4s run 5.0.1. We just got the VR today and installed Oculus software on both phones today. I am really puzzled why it works on her phone on not on my Note 4.
(to make things worse - her phone is getting sold and shipped in 2 days and now my Note 4 cannot get passed the "Health and safety warning" screen.
Please advise any help would be appreciated.

I also should mention that:
- a) I tried to uninstall the Oculus software, wiped cache partition, re-installed Oculus Software
- b) my phone is rooted, but it is running the stock ROM and our phones are identical as far as:
- identical Android version: 5.0.1
- identical baseband: N910TUVU1COD6
- identical Kernel 3.10.40-4739134
Tue April 21 11:47:32 KST 2015
- identical build number: LRX22C.N910TUVU1COD6
- identical 'SE for Android Status"
- identical "Security software version"
- identical Knox version
I would not think that rooting ist the problem as I have heard that many other users are running Gear VR
on rooted Note 4s and I also think that if rooting was the problem, then it would either run or not run at all.
The fact that it starts into the split image is puzzling me and I really do not want to do a full factory reset on my phone and re-install and activate all my apps. (I will if I have to, but hoping that there is a simple solution
to this before I go that route).
Thanks again in advance for your input.

I had this problem but it was due to the fact that I was using a custom rom/kernel, went back to stock and it's ok again.. don't know what could be causing you that problem...

Did you have the SAME problem where the Health and Safety warning image was
split to the left and right and middle of the image was empty?
I think I may have to reset the phone, install Oculus and run the VR and then I will try to
root again (using stock ROM).

Yes, the same exact problem. Solved going back to stock.

Thank you for the reply.
After you went stock and reinstalled Oculus and everything went well - did you try root again?
As much as I obviously want to run the Gear VR, I'd hate to lose the root. (With root, Greenify and other tweaks, my phone runs like a champ and battery is phenomenal)...I really need to hear from guys here that run rooted N4 and Gaar Vr and see what they did (the sequence of install / root etc.)

I'm rooted and that doesn't cause any trouble with the VR. I'm with the s6 though... can't talk for the N4. Now, I'm not so happy that I can't install custom roms or custom kernels and get the VR working, I've always been a custom kernel/rom kind of guy so this makes me sad.
Do you plan upgrading to 5.1.1 anytime soon? I haven't been to find the answer if the VR works flawlessly with 5.1.1.

Thank you for your reply, tyraelasd !
I hope to hear from someone that runs rooted Note 4 and GVR.
Here is my last 'Hail Mary Pass' attempt to solicit some more opinions before the weekend as I am not looking forward at all to the hours I will waste on wiping and resetting my phone
The same build number and same kernels between my wife's and my N4 still make me think that rooting should not be causing this, but it looks that unless some other fix comes up, I am going to have to do factory reset (un-root) and reinstall and reconfigure all the apps this weekend
Is anyone here running rooted Note 4 and Gear VR ?
If yes, what was your sequence of rooting, installing Oculus SW etc?
If you are rooted, what build, ROM and kernel are you running?
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Gear1 to Tizen or Not?

I have a Galaxy Gear (1st gen) and it's still on Android.
Curious if I should stay on Android or move to the Tizen update?
I don't really plan to do much tinkering or hacking, but don't see much on rolling it back to Android if I don't like Tizen so thought I'd ask first.
TIA!
~poz
I updated mine and think its much better. I dont tinker much with the watch (i do with my phone) and generally just use the watch for its intended purpose.
Ive seen a thread with a working rollback to android. Although i think it takes abit of luck to make it work. Dont plan on rolling back though as i dont see the need.
I would suggest the update but thats just my opinion
Like maskerwsk said. If you're not tinkering with it then I think Tizen is the way to go. I upgraded shortly after I got mine. The battery life is better. I hear the performance is better but I can't vouch for that, I didn't play with android enough. The app support is much better and the launcher is visually more appealing, if that sort of thing is important to you. I like to check out the available stock options and then I cant resist the urge to mess with it. I have successfully downgraded back to android with out to much trouble. I have a custom recovery installed. The next step is to get Null loaded on it. If you intend to use it for it's intended purpose then you probably wont regret upgrading to Tizen.
Going back to android is easy, follow the thread and it's fine. I used tizen for the most part and everything worked fine for me using it on an lg g3 however I wasn't able to get gear manager working when I updated to lollipop on my g3 so back to null for me.
Null, when you set the cpu up properly easily last a full day, could probably get 2 days out of it if I don't play with it a lot. It's really a toss up. Try both and see what fits you better, or if non Samsung and lollipop, right now your only real option is android and with that no reason not to run null.
What's the video recording time limit on Tizen?
I get 3 days of battery on my Gear now because it's only for notification and occasional camera use.
Performance is much better than Android. And no side loading either!

15 seconds.
I love to tinker so it's null all the way for me! I look at tizen and I think no: zooper, tasker, popup widget, gmd gesture control etc etc etc it's my device and I enjoy seeing how far I can push it and also workaround things that frustrate me like not being able to reply to a notification on whatsapp. But it's each to their own. I hope you enjoy your device whatever path you choose to take
It's a much better device on Tizen, with one critical exception, at least for me: the battery drain is horrible. On Android, I could still be in the low 90% range at the end of the day. On Tizen, it drains at an average rate of 7% an hour. Worse if I'm really active with it (video recording, etc.). It died mid-afternoon last week. I've reset the Gear and reinstalled Gear Manager, but no joy. I'd go back to Android but I like Tizen a lot more -- save for the drain.
Edit: This fix -- downgrading to the previous version of Gear Manager -- seems to have fixed the battery issue for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-gear/help/battery-dying-12-hours-t2887770.

GearVR and a rooted Galaxy S6?

Has anyone been able to install the GearVR and its software on a rooted Galaxy S6 and make it work?
Thanks.
Same.... Recieved The device today and its useless now... Bye bye 99 bucks
Working fine here on rooted 5.02
What carrier/firmware are you guys on?
Rooted ATT S6 Edge 5.0.2 here, want to know if I should drive 30 minutes to get one or not.
Thanks
Dutch
Always wanted to try it, but actually never did (
On S6 edge I have crisscross rom and unikernel. Gearvr working perfectly
What mine does do:
- Plug in Phone (s6)
- Gear VR says I need to take the phone and install the software
- Wizard starts
- Push first button on screen
- Downloads software (2 mb) in next screen
- Wizard crashes
My phone is not rooted but has a specific ROM from my provider.
Any tips?
I have problems that if I put in my S6 into Gear VR (recent edition) I first see colored lines everywhere and after that a blackscreen. XtreStoLite Deo-Mod Edition 2.4 with flashed Gear VR support. After deleting dalvik cache it seems to work once, but after that I have to clear cache again.. I'll try it again when I'm home.
Edit: I found a way to workaround this problem (and blackscreen). Just plugin the phone, put on Gear VR and turn off the phone and on again while it is in Gear VR. Colors are a bit off thought, especially darker colors.

I have the same problems with colors. Dark colors look a bit green.
It worked perfectly at first, then I rooted the phone so I could add a ps4 controller, and now I get problems launching the oculus home as well as the color problems.
5.1.1?
Are any of you folks reporting rooted success using 5.1.1, specifically the OGA version?
I'm holding off ordering one until I find that works.
Any way to get the Apps actually without GearVR so I can "preload" some Games?

I had the same problem. I'm rooted with UniKernel v8. It worked the first times I used it, then I got home and got the green lines and then reboot. I found your post and tried your workaround and it works this way. I'm thinking of flashing a stock Kernel to check.
I managed to unroot using Smart Switch on my PC, it proposed an update and once completed I was unrooted and didn't lose my data
Good news is that Oculus Store now launches without problems, it looks like it switched the screen in high FPS mode, it's even smoother than before and darks are much better. The only drawback is that I can feel a little bit of flickering that is was not present previously. I'm very happy with it now!

Thanks for reporting your findings! Any chance to have the s6 rooted (in order to use the ps3 controller) while keeping VR still intact (i.e fully working)? Otherwise, the only other way to use a gamepad would be to sadly buy a compatible game controller. (spending even more to play VR games )

I think the tuning for VR may not be part of AOSP kernel, so the rooted kernel may be missing this part, but that's just a supposition. I order a Xiaomi gamepad so that I don't have to root to use a controller.
edit:
Check Arter07's Kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ent/arter97-kernel-galaxy-s6-t3171246/page380
It looks like it's working fine with GearVR.
Thanks for the information. It seems there are some reporting success and others not. Can you by any chance verify that Arter's kernel works ok? I understand if you don't prefer/have the time to test it.

Root by chainfire, Confirmed working with GearVR on stock ROM (just tested it on G920I 5.1.1 DOJ6). Trips Knox.
EDIT: picture quality IMO seems lower than stock, probably not activating low persistence + high fps

A few questions about the 6.0.1 update

So I am a bit burned from updating my s5 mini (last time it just updated itself to 5.0, my battery life and performance shrunk and it wouldnt even let me disable bloatware).
Here are my questions:
1. How did the battery life change from 5.0;
2. How did the peformance change from 5.0 (including in-apps, opening them and regular menu opening/scrolling);
3. Is USB-OTG now supported?
1. Battery life has improved a lot, at least for me. It seems that Smart Manager is really doing its job and I'm seeing an improvement in both standby time and SOT. With a few tweaks here and there you can improve the battery life even more.
2. Everything feels smoother, there are some updated animations and transitions that really make the phone feel like new.
3. No, OTG on the S5 Mini has never been and never will be officially supported by Samsung. There is a custom kernel that enables OTG but it most likely affects the water resistance capabilities because of the exposed USB connector and also it's somewhat of a risk to use anything that requires power on a port that was never designed to do that.
One of the few drawbacks I noticed just today is that the auto brightness seems a lot less responsive. For example it's very sunny today and most of the time when pulling the phone out of my pocket the display was still stuck on low brightness. It might just be a conflict with xposed or something else I'm running. All in all I recommend that you update, I skipped the 5.1.1 update as well but for different reasons, 6.0.1 is pretty good.

What model are you using? I'm using the GH800F.
How big is the change? And I've heard that 6.0.1 gives you less performance for more battery. Is that correct?
Sorry, I'm just scared of updating because I don't want to lose all of my data for another let down like 5.1.1 (that literally just enabled itself out of ****ing nowhere and I lost everything).

G800F as well. Like I said, I've noticed a big improvement in battery life. Just make a backup of the important stuff on your phone like contacts and photos and try the 6.0.1 firmware - I recommend you do a clean install via ODIN.

Alright, as long as the performance hasn't decreased (especially in games) then I'll update.
Since I've got most things on my SD card, can I just remove it from my phone, update and put it back in?

Yes, backup everything you don't want to lose to your card, wipe the phone from recovery and install a fresh 6.0.1 firmware with ODIN. If you don't like Marshmallow you can always go back to KitKat.

That's the problem, I can't revert. I tried doing it with 5.1.1 but it just wouldn't let me. I tried multiple times, on multiple PC's with multiple USB wires. (which is why I'm so nervous).
P.s. So if I remove my card, installl 6.0.1 and add it again it'll work?

You should be able to revert, if you can't then there's an issue with something - maybe you haven't updated the Samsung USB drivers?
Yes, it will work. Backup your contacts, messages, photos, videos, anything you want saved on your card and pull it out before you update if you're so nervous.

Hi, i flashed stock MM TW comming from CyanogenMod 13. My battery life seems worse than before with CMod... What should I do?
Before upgrading to MM I did a benchmark test (AnTuTu) on 4.4.2 for comparison, ran the same test on MM and here are the results.
Thanks for the test. A more meaningful one would be to compare Lollipop 5.1 with MM 6.0.1 as most S5 Mini users have Lollipop installed.
I have a question about the MM 6.0.1 update. I flashed the new rom al updatet and seemd to work perfect. Then i noticed, the battery life was very poor. So take a good look at what was draining it. During the day it seemd okay, then when i got home it started rapidly draining again. I managed to figure out that when i am using 4G/LTE everything is fine but when i am home and change to my wifi, my screen turns on every 3 minutes or something and it complety unlocks as wel. because i have my screen time set to 1 minute it stays that way then turns of and about 3 minutes later turns itself on again. When i disable wifi the problem is gone.
Has anyone a idea how to fix this? i live at the border of my country and without wifi its gonna be expesive with roaming costs ....
Thanx in advance for your reply's

I had the same issue. Resetting the app worked for me. (btw. I googled that)
"Anwendungsmanager", "Kamera", "Speicher", "Daten löschen" und "Cache leeren".
Since you said you are on the DBT firmware, I assumed you are german.
I'm on 5.1.1 not rooted with g800f. Should I update to MM with Odin first then flash the custom recovery? Thank you!

Gear VR suddenly lagging after update, using custom ROM

I have Superman installed on my Galaxy S7 (regular, not Edge), and up until now everything has been working great. My Gear VR performed excellently with no issues, however Oculus has heavily updated the Gear VR (including more features on the hub, VR controller support, etc), and ever since the update, I'm getting heavy lag regardless of what I do. Restarting doesn't work, reinstalling all the Oculus stuff doesn't work, and re-orienting the head tracking fixes it for a few moments, but then goes back to lagging again. I'm heavily considering just going back to stock, but I'd really rather not do that, unless the current Superman update can fix this issue.
Anyone experiencing similar or know any fixes?
Same problem here and I found your post which is an exact copy of my own situation. In fact, I am downloading the stock firmwares at this time. I really like the superman rom though. Oculus home lags heavily and I see two images while my head is moving. They converge when I get my head stationary. Pressing the back button to view system stats and relaunching oculus home from there puts everything to focus for about 10 seconds and then lags again. The oculus demo of the paper dinasour worked well but many oculus apps didn't start. I couldn't get "The eyes of the animal" or DomeVideoPlayer to work. Please Help!
I'm currently using the newest Superman ROM and VR is working perfectly thanks to a friend of mine. It's the system tweaks and enhancers that were getting in the way. I don't know exactly what he did, but now I get no lag.

Ok. You definetly need to ask your friend what did he do... Probably we can do a "dirty flash" of the superman rom in order to change the performance tweaks and getting the vr working...
Please Please?

2020.. is there a custom ROM for the oldie but goldie TF701 ???

Well.... the device still runs pretty good, but I'm afraid soon my two favorite apps will lose compatibility cuz the OS is too old... I like it because of the screen size is the minimum acceptable to be able to read music on it...
So, is out there anything newer than the stock 4.4.2 OS ? Anything ?
Should I resign and accept that soon enough I will be better off throwing it away ? At this point I am becoming more and more of a "I just want to use" than a tinkerer... at the same time I hate discarding good things so I usually keep them until their death - in this case, "inability to breath"
but let me hear what you know.
Thanks.

I've been using a Nougat ROM on this tablet for a couple of years, really stable. Haven't heard about more recent ROMs though.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf701/orig-development/rom-t3540259
Thank you. Do you have all the essential features working alright ? For example, I connect a bluetooth pedal to turn music pages; then i also use Google Drive to import the songs I want to the app, so evidently, WiFi is also essential to me
I dont care for camera or anything else, so, is BT and WIFI running fine for you ? Thank you.
Well....... once I ran the ASUS bootloader unlock and it rebooted, I knew I was already screwed cuz the damn **** wiped everything ..... so I bit the bullet and went ahead and installed everything: new custom recovery, the Katkiss and went ahead... seems that everything is working though I havent tested BT just yet.
WIFI is working just fine, I reinstalled my previous apps. Will test the BT pedal tomorrow, but so far, looks great ! This should get me running for another 4-5 years LOL
Thanks again for the link. I will go ahead and donate to that guy who made the 7.0.1 thing for us.
Confirmed BT works fine.
I'm glad someone else asked this. What ROM did you go with and what do you think of it ?
I used the ROM that is in this thread to replace the stock kitkat (is that what it was before ?) This rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tra...t/rom-t3540259
The only two (three?) things I noticed:
1 ) The battery runs faster than on the old original firmware, however, it can be drastically "enhanced" by using "Battery Doctor".
2) Cannot connect anymore to the laptop or any other charger - it simply will not charge from anywhere else that is not the original wall charger.
3) I have not tested the camera simply because, I really don't see a use case for a camera on a tablet - we all have a nice smartphone in our pockets, right ?
What I like, is that everything is quite simple and clean; the home key and those other soft keys at the bottom, stay "On" and have an extra set of useful keys.
I had no problem "updating the tablet" following the steps.

It works (almost) fine. I'm afraid to say that I have bad news for you ... =
I tried three different camera apps, starting with the "Open camera" and no joy - it says that "the camera seems to be in use by another application" and gives up.
Then I tried two others that came first in the Play Store and got the same kinda of message about not being able to connect to the camera.
Sorry for you who needs the camera - for my own use, it's became good enough.
