Probably after the launch of the Note 5. Samsung are sneaky like that..

oh k, so a month or so, that's not too bad... i guess.
i've seen a lot of hate towards samsung for not giving the note4 line any update lovin'
hope you are right though.

Tbf they deserve hate they completely messed the note 4 around with 5.0 with even the note 3 getting it before I'm sure, as well as the s5. Now I'm pretty sure the s6 and s5 have 5.1 lollipop and one of Samsungs most expensive phones the note 4 doesn't even have it yet even though it is plagued with issues, cough cough battery, lag, recent apps lag.
It's not exactly an acceptable way to treat your consumer base when like me we paid 650 pound out right for the phone.. Which is a hell of a lot of money I might add, I'm half tempted to just get the s6 if they're just going to screw the note 5 around like this

When Samsung/your carrier announes its release. Otherwise, it's just endless guessing. This happens with every new update. Pointless speculation.

My old z2 is now with 5.1.1.
My last samsung phone, i am going to buy a one plus two or a moto x play/style.
Note 4, the 600+ usd phone that is abandoned.

It's just a bit weird that the note 4 hasn't gotten the update yet, when the Note Edge has. Something fishy going on and I guess it's Samsung assuming people will switch to the Note 5 just to get 5.1.1.

This is my last Samsung phone too due to the update schedule too
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app

this is why i asked... friends z2 got the update too. @Toss3
ain't nobody switching to note 5, there is nothing there to move on to... other than 5.1.1
the phone looks, meh...
the 4 is still a great device,
hope it releases soon, so we can see some roms drop.

Based on this
http://www.sammobile.com/2015/06/01...p-update-to-galaxy-note-4-by-the-end-of-july/
We should see it by tomorrow .. even though Samsung is known for not holding its own words when it comes to updates

Stupid Samsung support probably waiting note 5 & S6 Edge + event

Maybe noone cares about what I'll say, but its my last Samsung phone. Come on, my last Note 2 was an epic telephone. This note 4 is dissapointing. And 5.0.1 is a failure. Battery drain, lags, etc. Even root and deleting some ****ty systeminstalled apps doesnt help him much... I think about the downgrading.
I hope the Snapdragon will get the update.

Sammobile isn't Samsung and it was just some insider info that could have changed after Samsung decided to launch the note 5 early. BTW BOG1 is damned smooth and the recent apps lag is almost completely gone. :good:

Try wanam's version with the correct modem+bootloader and googy-anas's kernel.

Some real drama queens around here. You know what is funny about updates? If they arrive quickly they are usually buggy and people complain OR they arrive slowly with minimal bugs and guess what? People complain.
Samsung has not given a proper date of when 5.1.1 will arrive, end of July was not an official statement at all.
I am on NEE POF2 5.0.1 on my N910F and it is running beautifully, no lag, battery is great even when using Download Booster with LTE & WiFi. The phone is stable.
My mother's month old S6 has just died and may require a motherboard replacement, same with her colleagues S6 Edge, both on 5.0.2, yet my Note 4 has been with me since launch with very usage and abuse and not yet failed me.
Blame Google, as even 5.1.1 doesn't fix most of the 5.0 Bugs, so I am guessing that Samsung is trying to patch everything up themselves.
We have not been abandoned.

I sold this phone, i'm with my z3 again, rocking 5.1.1, again 1.5 day battery life with 8 h sot.
Goodbye.

Why would you even contemplate purchasing old techno? The gear 2 should prove a 'better' allroud experience IF IF IF the price is right. The Gear one was overpriced.
Ryland
None are worth 300. I got the Gear at 30% off and thats about the price point it needs to be.
Nothing I saw today would lead me to want either of the new gears knowing they run Tizen and how they goofed the Gear launch software. Id say the best bet would be the Gear fit but only in the 149 range.
FWIW the camera on the Gear has been priceless. So many moments that it is more useful than pulling out your phone unlocking and waiting for camera to load.

I agree the camera on the gear is great! With my 1 year old daughter I use it all the time to capture her random moments she has! :good: And no matter what they do with the gear 2 it still will not be as open at the gg1 with full android.
price for the gear watch in my country i can get a bnew at $150 USD. In fact, someone already offered to me tonight. selling at a huge discounted price since he got it as a free bundled with the Note Pro. Do you think it's a good deal? thinking of getting it since i can make use on rooting it and good combo with note 3...
$150 is a great deal,I would jump on that if I were you

i like the camera placement on gear 1 more (i do not need video calling).
gear 2 is supposed to run tizen, and this is my biggest worry as of now. i'm not going to say goodbye to my android apps.
i'm happy with my gear 1 and null rom.
it's still the best smartwatch on the market.

i actually am not sure the G2 will be as easy to use but i catch all the shots of the kids i use to miss when i would have to pull out my phone from pocket and fire up the camera.
My only concern is whether samsung will provide support and develop new apps for the old gear now? It's not like they seemed to put a lot of effort developing apps for it in the first place! But even in its current form it ticks most of the boxes for me and battery life is pretty decent.
Plus the camera is actually useful and pretty decent in good light.

Apparently the original Gear is getting updated to Tizen too: http://www.droid-life.com/2014/02/25/galaxy-gear-update-to-tizen/
Love my Galaxy Gear from day one! Use all day, battery isnt that bad for me go easy 2 days! If Tizen means more battery life and same funcions on the watch cool! The only thing that i like more in Gear 2 its dark bezel on black model and lack of the volcano camera on the Galaxy Gear. By the way the camera at Galaxy Gear is actualy prety good... and allways one "the hand" when is need I only use my Note 3 to take important landscape pictures and things like that!
Another thing be able to make phone call with a watch its perfect when driven... i use all the time and dont have to take hands from the wheel
I don't see a reason to move to the GG2. I even see more reason to stay, we got android! Samsung would have to do a hell of a job with tizen for me to run to GG2 or even update to tizen os (like its been speculated)
The GG1 will still have its place and based on the refinements of the Gear2 like water resistance, the G2 will continue the migration of early tech. adapters.
I have a feeling that the real breakout success will be the Samsung Fit. It will likely be stregically priced to capture the segment of the market that are reluctant to tech. but interested in health. Desciding to focus on a limited, but capable level of features, that have demonstrated merit, and still staying reasonable priced, will be a big game changer; Especially in this strange segment of the tech. market where the manufacturer arbitrarily "creates solutions to problems that don't really exist in reality".

Gear VR

Anyone getting the Gear VR in early December? I see they released a time frame, 2 different options of goodies today. $199 for just the headset and $249 for headset, controller, unspecfied goodie.
Have you downloaded the mobile SDK and installed it on your phone yet? Have started developing games with unity yet?
I have every intention of getting this.
You can pre order on mobilefun for over a month now, but the price is higher then the one there saying. Don't even say if it includes the controller or the goodie.

Anyone know where and when you can buy the Gear VR - am I correct in assuming it doesn't require a data plan like a cellphone.
Samsung's site has a signup to get notified on release. This was the reason I got the Note 4. Not over any phone, but in general. Both my Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S were fine lol
It seems installing the SDK gets you to a "You need to update" screen that goes... nowhere.

Head over to oculus and watch the oculus connect video (kinda long winded) but they talk about a update will be pushed for all carriers, possible directly from Samsung. Also there's a separate sign-up page besides the notifies page. It let's you sign up saying you will buy the Oculus Gear VR Inovator Edition, since it's actually not consumer grade technology. This will be the first release, kinda like the DK2,even though samsung is posting it like it's consumer grade. Oculus says different though. Saying it's more for enthusiasts and developers until it's more perfected. Like having a postioning tracker and such.
OK here's the link to a different registration then the one directly on samsung website. This is after you go to oculus website and then click the link. It says in the bottom that is only available for people that order the note 4 between 11-1-14 and march of next year. Wtf. My AT&T version was bought before November 1st but my T-Mobile was bought after November 1st. Wonder if they mean for something else, even though they have a astrick next to the drop down and next to text at bottom like they go together.

I have an Oculus developer account. I'm saying the update isn't available yet so all the apps do is tell you you need the update.
BTW the dates are for the "Black Friday starts now" promotion. It's a little weird to think they restricted headset orders to only those with purchases two weeks after release. The asterisk is for "required field"

I'll probably get one from Best Buy, and not return it only if I'm still in love with it after a few weeks. The novelty of Google Cardboard wore off pretty quickly for me.

Ordered mine yesterday should be here tomorrow. I start reading some mobile news sites today and it says that the VR is "only" working on the ATT note 4 as of now and you will have to wait for a carrier update on other providers for it to work with their Note 4's. Changes in 5.1.1

Figure it would be nice to have a thread of changes we have found in 5.1.1
For me the UI feels a LITTLE more responsive, nothing major. That's all I have seen.
What about others?
For me so far it has been better standby time. Battery.
I notice somewhat better performance in general, phone just feels a little snappier. Battery life obviously can't be judged yet, might factory reset later if it gets worse (stupid Google Play Music device limit).
This is super minor, but I notice that the time it takes for the phone to verify the encryption passphrase is about half of what it was. And most people will likely not care about this either, but the T-Mobile jingle aligns with the T-Mobile white screen during boot up now.
Agree it's very very early, but I had pretty bad battery drain for the first few hours after I updated. Cleared cache via the stock recovery and it seems to be much better.
Definitely feels snappier.. I've noticed slightly better battery life.. But I can't really tell yet.. Just gotta use the phone and figure out any immediate changes

I noticed that too. I had to reboot twice into recovery (had to go back into Android because I needed to decrypt my phone to clear cache). Both times it said "Installing system update". No ertror mesage, though.
Updated this morning. Played around with my phone for a bit and then did a factory reset for the heck of it. So far it's pretty decent. I like the new camera feature and the removable S Finder and Quick Connect boxes too. I've been running it with everything turned on for almost a month and was getting great battery life. So far the battery is doing pretty good as I'm using it quite heavily.

Samsung will not update the Galaxy S7 to Nougat as well:

Joke aside I'm not surprised by this, Sammobile said the Tab S would received MM no later than early August and we are already approaching September.

I am not going to lose my sleep over this. I use my Tab S as a portable TV screen, and for that purpose it works just fine, even with Lollipop. It has the latest versions of Fox, NBC, AMC, HBO, Netfix, Uverse, Youtube, as well as some other streaming apps. It runs the MX Player which plays pretty much any video format.

That's true, but it also isn't outright claiming we're not getting it. I took it as all Tab S products since that's the device we were talking about.

That's why I'm not giving up on my small sliver of hope until September has come and gone. Once that happens; we'll have our official answer.

Agreed I'm still hanging in there too. Me and my gf both have the tab s and it really does need it

You're right man!

Any chance of root being patched on non-exploding Note 7 2.0?

I'm waiting for the new batch of Notes to arrive and got me wondering if Samsung might or could do something to stop root. It doesn't seem like they could or really have the time to worry about it with all the problems currently. Also, with a bit of a bad stigma, do you think they will sweeten any deals to get people to buy these former bombs. Personally I love that Samsung is taking a hit and getting knocked down a peg. I still love these phone but all of the sudden the 1% rooting community has a little bigger effect on sales.
That tiny routing community... against the fees they can make from Samsung Pay. Think about it.

There are August and September Android security patches that the Note 7 didn't get. Anyone short of a Samsung project engineer that thinks they can answer that question is probably full of it.
I think a lot would have to change to make the kernel leak not work. And yes , I don't think Samsung will care about us tweakers still but I still like war ching Samsung squirm just a little.
I think the real question is will Samsung be updating this phone at all or will it become the unwanted step child

We were promised Nougat. Samsung has pissed enough people off with the battery issue. Let them deny us that.

No I haven't took the update. I'll let somebody else be brave and try that one. Hopefully jovy puts out an updated rom with the new firmware.
The new update is not rootable and you won't be able to go back to PGC if you take the update. If you really want root i advise you to NOT let the rep power on/ setup your phone.....it will likely grab the update and you'll be doomed. Best practice: Do not place sim in device OR connect to wifi Until you have root.

A little extreme lol... The update is 400mb so on LTE that will still take a bit to download, which you have the option to pause for quite a while (this is what I did while I rooted it). You just need to pay attention to the phone.

Tell that to the people that got the update without knowing it....and the others that think their phone shipped already updated because it happened so quickly. I'd rather be safe than sorry....ymmv
***Also "will take a bit to download" ?? ROFL
I see speeds of 25-65 Mbps @ 65Mbps the file takes about 45 seconds to download fyi...

My replacement phone was downloading it real fast, but it let me pause it and then I rooted it before it applied it.

Yup you'll lose Samsung Pay, Secure Folder and SHealth (if you update SHealth after rooting)
