Problem getting Gapps - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First off, I'm new here despite having visited this site many times before. Glad to be here!
So, I recently flashed CyanogenMod 12.1 to my Moto G (xt1045). It's worked well so far but my only issue is that I can't seem to get Gapps on my phone no matter how many times or ways I've tried. I've wiped the Dalvik cache, done a factory reset, adb side loading...pretty much everything, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Does the developer recommend any gapps? Did you try these: http://opengapps.org/ ?
Flash through TWRP,in the upcoming menu you can chose which apps you´d like to have, which ones should be replaced etc. Wipe Cache/dalvik afterwards.
If you try to flash gapps what happens? Any error message? Just nothing?

Yes, the CyanogenMod site provided several links which I tried originally tried, and I also used your links but with no success. When the phone reboots, right after I swipe the lockscreen to unlock, I get a message that says "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped working.". Sometimes it reappears several more times after I tap 'ok'.
I tried flashing Gapps using my first recovery which is CWM. When none of that worked I flashed TWRP, then restarted the whole process and still nothing. Does it make a difference that CWM was there first? Also, in TWRP I see no option for choosing which Gapps to be installed.

Normally you put the zip file with the Gapps on your SD card and when you push the "install"button in TWRP just scroll down until you find the zip and use the slider to flash them.
I don´t know your rom but often the procedure is to to factory reset and wipe the phone(Dalvik, Data, Cache and System), then flash the rom, wipe dalvik/cache and then let the phone boot one time. Skip all the steps in the setup process until you get to the homescreen, then reboot the phone into recovery again and flash the gapps. After that wipe cache/dalvik again and let the phone boot.
If you flash the gapps directly after the rom without rebooting there can be issues between sytem apps of the rom like for example playstore and playservices and the flashed Gapps.

Cool, I'll try that. I read somewhere to start with a clean slate ROM so I'm downloading CyanogenMod again. When it finishes I'll do what you suggested and report back.

Full wipe again this time I installed 5.0.8 with google apps and it worked fine. 6rc was working until I installed the google apps
I have done a full wipe b4 every flash. Im going to try to install 6rc on top of 5.0.8 without a wipe and see how that goes
ok full wipe again. flash 5.0.8, then G-apps, then 6rc
that gets me 6rc but no google apps
reboot and flash Gapps and get stuck in boot loop again
Thanks for any help. and if this is in the wrong section mods feel free to move this.

Nandroid Restore Now No Gapps

I am running Gigglebread 7.0.2 on my T-Mobile N1. I am getting ready to go to Italy for a few weeks and wanted to see what would happen to my phone with another carrier's SIM. So, I inserted the AT&T SIM from my work blackberry and had some issues, but got it working after the APN was sorted out.
When I swapped the T-Mobile SIM back, all of my Google accounts had forgotten their credentials. I rebooted once just to see and no change. So, I thought, easy, restore nandroid from earlier in the day. The restore went fine, no errors, no wipe of cache or dalvik only now I appear to have no gapps (no market, unable to add google accounts, shortcuts on desktop don't work). Again, no problem. I've seen this before so I wiped cache and dalvik from CW 2.5.x recovery and installed dta2sd (sometimes it helps) and then 20110307 gapps. Reboot and still no gapps functionality.
So, I brought out the bigger hammer (after a couple of tries at gapps install) and wiped data/factory, dalvik, cache partition, restored nandroid, reboot. Still no gapps. Repeated the same wipe, restore nandroid, install dta2sd, install gapps, reboot. Still no gapps.
Now I'm getting desperate. Less than 72 hours till plane leaves! I next changed to AmonRA recovery and wiped, various nandroid/gapps/dta2sd combinations and still no gapps functionality.
Switched to CW 3, yeah, I know... And wiped cache, dalvik, factory/data, and even formatted system. Various installations and it still refused to install gapps.
I next tried the CW 2.x factory/data wipe, dalvik, cache, and then installed Gigglebread 7.0.2, dta2sd beta4(like always), and gapps 20110307 and rebooted. As expected, sterile phone, touch android, and then I'm prompted for google account. I skip that and sure enough, market is back and I can add google accounts.
AUGH. Unless someone has a suggestion, I'm probably going to have to do a full reinstall tomorrow. I've been wanting to do it, but not this close to a trip.
On a side note, is it normal for a swap of the SIM card to wipe out my account settings? I will make sure from now on that my TI b/u is up to date.

Infuriating as it is, especially as you must have so much to do already, a re-install might be best at this point. Trying to troubleshoot and avoid doing this could just mean more wasted time in the long run.

Yup, already on that path. I fell asleep last night or I would have finished. I did manage to get a TI backup of many of my apps (gmail especially) so hopefully I won't have to set those back up again since I'm using two-factor auth on all of them (10 accounts) and don't want to go through the process of invalidating and recreating the app specific passwords again.
Rick
I am also facing the same problem now.
I was on Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3 when some application weirdly started building up data on system storage. There was only 16 KB of space left and it became un-responsive. So I restarted it, only to find the looping Cyan logo.
Fortunately I had a backup from 15 days back, which was CM 7.0.2. So, I flashed that and I thought I am back. But, I found Market was not working, in fact it was not even showing up in the app list. Also, Contacts data was wiped out and when I tried to check out the account and settings, google account option itself was not showing up.
I tried flashing 7.0.3 + latest gapps package using Rom manager, that did not work. I tried a clean wipe and flashed 7.0.2 from my backup, no effect. Then flashed latest gapps again, no change.
It is frustrating now. It looks as if google is not supporting my device anymore.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Did you check md5 from your gapps package?
You said you were using ROM manager so I suppose you are on cwm but are you on cwm 3.x or are you on cwm 2.5.1.4? If your on 3.x then downgrade if not then maybe try Amon-RA with temasek system wipe maybe just making a clean install of your recovery might fix it.
Also you might want to try flashing from recovery instead of ROM manager. Just for the fun of it.
Might also need to partition sd card again as CWM 3.0 probably fubar it.

[Q] Endless Boot & Gapps issue

Received this phone a month ago, just got around to rooting it yesterday. Root with motochopper went fine. Unlocked the handset with motopocalypse, everything went fine. Installed latest CM10.2 nightly and everything ran fine, even restarted phone and it worked fine. I then realized I forgot to install Gapps, So i went to CWM and installed the Gapps through "install zip from sd card". Now phone will not progress past the bootloader unlocked warning screen. I can restart and put phone into recovery or fastboot no problem but I don't know where to go from here. I tried a factory reset and reinstallation of CM but to no success. I am a bit of a newb when it comes to external programs like RSD Lite and haven't used it. Is there something obvious I'm missing in my progress of trying to fix my phone?
clear cache and dalvik cache under advanced then restart.
if you still loop do the above steps plus data reinstall cm10.2.
if you still loop do all above steps but also format system under mounts be re-install.
if you loop after all that then try a different ROM.
PS what version of gapps did you use.

i can't post outside links yet but on the wiki.cyanogen site in the Gapps section I used the 10.2 20130813 1f51b5cc6370c1f45dc951109b6ce6ed release. I will attempt those steps once i can find a legitimate charger in my house. Phone doesn't accept power unless its on and i need just a bit of juice to boot it up

Here's the official name. Installed cm-10.2-2-130814-NIGHTLY-mb886.zip for the cm and gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip for the GApps, both latest versions I believe

none of the above steps worked unfortunately. Is there a set order of certain things to be mounted and unmounted in the mount section? Such as the system or sd card?

did you flash gapps before flashing the ROM because the ROM flash will overwrite the gapps.
PS I suggest using zgapps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240652 because they are stripped down which tends to prevent a lot of issues and if you want a 4.3 ROM try skeevydudes PAC ROM it is more stable plus has more features.

Can't turn off my nook hd+ plz help

Im using nook hd+ with latest cm12.1
When i shut down my nook, it automatically restarts
After like 5 seconds.
Please help me how can i turn off my nook??
Do you have power connected? I'm not sure, but I think the hardware forces a power-on when power is connected.
No the power is not connected
This issue has been discussed at length in #Amaces's thread where this ROM is located.
Have you looked there?

Thanks. this thread helped a lot.
It seems like this issue has been fixed in latest 08/03 version of CM12.1.
I will try installing this version today.
Thanks.
Does anyone know how I can fully wipe my current CM 12.1 and install new-latest CM12.1 safely?
Is this safe way to do this ?
- insert sd card and reboot in recovery mode
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip files(recovery/cm12.1/gapps)
- wipe dalvik cache
- reboot
Is this safe way to install cm12.1 - 0803 from my current cm12.1 - 0723??
Thank you
I would reboot after flashing recovery.
Reboot after flashing ROM. Set up the basics. Make a back-up. Flash GAPPS, log into your Google account and set up the basics. Make another back-up , wipe cache/ dalvik,, reboot, and then finish setting up your device.
I think you might want to wipe system to and look into converting Cache and Data to F2FS.
Also, I typically wipe everything 3 times when switching ROMs.

Dear sir,
Thank you for your information at my thread.
I am currently running cm 12.1 0803 version with the same auto-restarting problem.
(the shut down functions works sometimes when i shut my nook in landscape mode)
However, I also found out that my Bluetooth mouse is not compatible with CM 12.1 and
I am planning to install cm11 version(because i heard that my mouse works in cm11 version fine).
And i would like to ask you these(I hope you will be kind enough to answer them) :
1. is there a way to make my bluetooth mouse work in CM 12.1 version?
2. which version(date) of cm11 will you recommend me?
3. you mentioned about changing cache and data to fsf2, can you tell me how i can do this? what would be the advantage?
4. you mentioned about wiping everything 3 times, do you wipe 3 times with only booting once? or do you reboot everytime you wipe?
5. Please tell me if this procedure is correct, if i will change my cm 12 to cm 11
- insert sd card and reboot in recovery mode
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install recovery and reboot
- install cm rom and reboot
- install gapps and reboot
- format/system(3times?)
- format/data(3times?)
- format/cache(3times?)
- format/bootdata (3times?)
- format/data and sd card (3times?)
- wipe dalvik/cache
- reboot
Thank you.

1) Shut down and boot into recovery isn't working for me on 8/03 either, but I haven't had time to mess with it to find out why not. Maybe wiping system and then flashing 8/03 might work. I wouldn't wipe Data if you're coming from the last July version of 12.1
But, if you hold down the power button long enough, the tablet will shut down. I just can't shut down from the menu.
Once you're completely off, you can boot into recovery with the power/n combo.
I also tried the Reboot shortcut and widget from ROMToolbox Pro and that didn't work either.
1) I don't know much about how to make bluetooth work. I know that some stuff works on these builds and some stuff doesn't
2) I'm using Amaces's Unofficial CM 12.1. I never found a CM 11 that worked well on my Nook HD+
3) Theoretically,F2FS uses flash memory more efficiently. I think we're talking nano or micro seconds here, but many say it helps. To answer your question about Why and How, I'd have to look it up to give you clear instructions. You can do the same, and you'll learn more by researching it yourself, than by me explaining it poorly.
3) I wipe three times, then reboot
------NOTE---
I'm barely above a novice and my advice isn't worth diddly squat
Below is what generally has worked for ME and what I've read that other folks do. It does not mean this is the best way to do it.
The MOST important thing is to read a lot, then read some more, take your time and make back-ups often.
You need to look in the CM11 threads to see what Recoveries are compatible with CM11. Not all of the current Recoveries are backwards compatible.
AND you're better of asking about flashing to CM11 in a CM11 thread, rather than a CM12 thread.
I don't use an SD, I do everything off of the onboard memory.
I use TWRP as my recovery.
1) If I'm going to a new ROM, rather than do Factory Data Reset, I manually go in and choose to wipe System, Dalvik, Data and Cache. I've never touched BootData as far as I remember. I do that 3 times.
2) Flash new recovery if you want.
3) Reboot into recovery too make sure the new recovery flashed okay.
4) I then flash the ROM, wipe Dalvik and Cache 1 time, boot into the ROM to make sure it was a good flash and set up the bare minimum.
5) Boot to recovery
6) Flash GAPPS and wipe Dalvik and Cache 1 time (usually)
7) Reboot and make sure there were no problems with GAPPS
8) Set up my minimum accounts and apps.
9) Boot to recovery and make a back up.
10) Reboot and install the rest of my apps.
11) Make sure everything works okay and once I'm satisfied, make another back up.
If I'm going from one version of the same ROM to the next update, I just flash the latest version, wipe Dalvik and Cache 1 or 2 times and reboot.
Thereafter, I make back-ups ever week or so, depending on how much I've been using my tablet and how much time I have.

Google voice search making my phone unusable

I've tried flashing slim rom and paranoid Android and all do the same thing. As soon as Google apps are installed the Google voice search prompt pops up repeatedly. It disables calling and also all sounds. I have turned it off in Google settings best I could and it still keeps happening. It has essentially made my nexus 6 unusable. And since I need the Google app I don't know what to do. Anyone seen this problem before? I am guessing it is not rom specific as it happens on all I have tried. Help severely needed

When I flashed a different ROM there were always issues when I did not a wipe in TWRP recovery (factory reset).
I have cleared data and cache along with a system wipe. Any thing else I can try to wipe?

In TWRP there is a message about wiping.
When you did that it is OK.
Effect should be that after booting the new rom, you need to completely setup the device again (setup wizard).
When there are still issues it could be a corrupt download.
I'll try to be more clear here.
I have done a factory reset (system, data, cache, dalvik) from TWRP.
I install new rom (chroma, paranoid, slim, and a stock build)
Boot up phone, complete setup wizard.
"Listening" prompt from google voice search starts popping up repeatedly, over and over no matter what I am doing on the phone.
I disable google voice search, doesn't matter, continues to pop up.
In the meantime it disables all sounds on the phone and I cannot place a call/take a call.
Again, this is the same actions that happen regardless of what rom I have installed, even after doing the reset.
Try changing the GApps package you flash after your ROMs.
I'm guessing you've been using the same GApps with each ROM you listed. Download another GApps and use that instead in a clean flash of a given ROM.
Good luck!
(One more thought: You could try clean flashing a ROM with a built-in GApps and see if that works...)

There are two important options in TWRP.
WIPE and FORMAT.
You have installed several different roms. The memory could be messed up.
A format could help.
The last suggestion I can do is: back to stock.
Flash a factory image.
Leave bootloader unlocked.
Check if the issue is gone when the stock rom is set up.
Than choose a custom rom, start with Chroma.

What do I format? System? It doesn't seem to be a Google specific problem as even with Google not installed the phone just hangs up when I dial a number and sound doesn't work. It went away on its own about an hour after start up and I've been good for a week. Now just this morning it started doing it again. The volume turned itself up a notch and boom no sound on video can't call anyone. It's very strange, and must be a deep rooted issue as it is across all roms. The only difference with Google now installed is the listening prompt popping up constantly. Without its just what I listed above.

Revert back to stock (e.g. with Wug's nexus root Toolkit), leave bootloader unlocked. Then reflash your things and see if problem persists. If it does, try TK GApps and don't install Google App (per gapps-config.txt).
