Recovery from Xperia Z - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I moved away from my Z to Iphone 6. Although I restored my contacts through google, I am not able to restore some of my images from backup. The folder ".semc-fullbackup" (which I saved) has some of the photos I need to be recovered. However, when I open it in Image viewer (from my PC), it says "Invalid Image". Each of the image is approx 1 mb in size. Are they corrupted? Is there any chance at all to recover them?

1mb seems a bit small of a size but could be that your data is stored in parts. You can use titanium backup for your nandroid backup. For this you will need root and an android phone. Also clarify what do you mean by your recovery. How did you make your backup ?

It seems it is possible on flash memory, see here.
Depends where the photo were saved.....main memory or memory card? there are many programs available that can recover *deleted* files from memory cards. I can recommend tis one: "Zero Assumption Recovery" which allows you to recover only 4 files per run in the trial version but completely recover all files for the full version. If you have more than 4 files to recover then u have to re run the program everytime after recovering the last 4 files but it still works. I have used this program to recover a complete 8GB memorycard after it crashed.
Deleted Photo Recovery
Recovery of deleted photos depends on few factors such as the storage media that is in use, and the time that has passed after the photo loss has occurred. If overwriting has not taken place, then is definitely possible, as there are innumerable number of photo recovery utilities available online.
You can download the software using the link given below,
recoverdeletedphoto.net
i don't get it
Try Kernel for FAT and NTFS data recovery software which can efficiently and instantly recovers all your pics on a single mouse click.

Well, it's a general idea but i would backup the phone rom to a file on your hard disk and then would try a program called photorec on that file.
A FreeWare Recovery Program
freedatarecoverysoftware.net
Free Data Recovery Software can get your lost data back and recover files and folders that previously deleted.
Features:
Securely recovers deleted content from NTFS, FAT or FAT32 partitions.
Retains folder structure where possible in an organized matter.
Uses a familiar explorer like interface for easy overview and retrieval of lost data.
Fast. Recovery information's are retrieved per user action.
High data recovery success rate. Compare the data retrieval success with most commercial programs - in most cases the percentage of data recovered is actually higher with FDRS. Why pay then?
Very easy to use. Click to scan drive, find lost file, click to recover them.
Free Data Recovery Software is portable. That means it does not require installation, there is only one stand alone executable (.exe) that can be run from removable drives, CD or DVD drives, memory cards, flash memory etc.
FDRC cost nothing, it is free and it will remain free.
Success,
Senax

there are so many backup tool on the market. i used free one todo backup to backup them.
I have used best digital media recovery tool to recover lost digital data from my memory card. This tool recovers data from hard disks, iPods, external USB drives efficiently. You can estimate recovery chances of the tool when you download demo version that allows to preview recovered data before saving it.
Well most of the times i have recovered my lost images with the help of a photo recovery application, no matter what digital device it was stored into. With the help of a effective and easy to use UI it have become simple for the user to recover their images and other files as well.
Hi...
You can recover deleted photos by using "Remo Recover (Windows) - Media" Edition software. I have done photo file recovery from memory card when I deleted JPEG files accidentally and this software works excellently. This software supports to recover all types of photos. So you can download this software from internet and start to recover deleted photos.
The data in the memory card can get corrupted or damaged due to accidental deletion, frequent disk formats, software virus and many others. When memory card corrupts, data stored inside it becomes completely inaccessible and users cannot search the required result. For this, memory card recovery algorithms should be used.
Deleted Photo recovery is not a very big task. Recovery is possible but for the same you have to take help of third party photo recovery (Recupero Foto) software. There are several software available in the market, you can choose anyone of them. However before making any choice it is highly advisable to check the demo version of that particular software. This will give idea about it.
How to recover photos if deleted or lost
Hi There,
The Lost photos or files can be recovered easily as you have lost your photo its nothing to worry about. The deleted photos are seems to be deleted but they are still there in the memory and you can retrieve them. So to recover deleted photo is not a big task but only the condition is that you should not save anything on you storage media after you deleted you photos. If its attempted then the files will be overwritten and cannot be recovered.
this link helped me a lot:
please exceed www before recoverdeletedphoto.net/

Linda
You need to download HTC data recovery software to retrieve back deleted photos and other items, take a look at this guide:

nandroid only partially backing up/ restoring

Hi all, I did a nandroid restore and it only partially restored my phone content, for example it did restore
- hotkeys
- sms
- wallpaper,
but didn't restore
- contacts
- homescreen setup
- applications (and data).
It worked perfectly well when I tried it, but last time it didn't. Here is what I did:
Installed 6.1 per ClockworkMod without Google Apps and did a nandroid backup as I was asked, booted into 6.1, rebooted, flashed Gapps tiny 201020 something, rebooted, didn't come past "tap the android to begin" (don't know why tapping didn't do anything), so I restored the backup I did prior to installing 6.1 and it restored only what I wrote above.
Any help will be greatly appreciated guys!

1. Contacts get restored from Google.
2. Did you use alternative launcher before (i.e ADW or LP). If so, the only way Nand would restore it, if you still have it on your phone but what you say is that it did not restore any apps which leads me to next point.
2. Did you have your apps on SD card? Did you do Nand+Ext backup or just Nand? Regular Nandroid back-up will not touch your ext partition. If you did just a Nandroid backup and wiped your ext partition - your apps are gone for good.

Thank you for your answer! Yes I had 6.0 before 6.1 with ADW. Nandroid did restore one or two apps, but not all... (just found that out). Yes I had some apps on my sd card but nandroid didn't recover them, neither the others. Just the few I mentioned before, but I had more on my SD and more on my internal flash storage. And no, I had no ext partition of sd card (copied some of them via froyo apps2sd). Also, I didn't remove any of my files from my SD (except for some songs to make more free space).
It seems like Clockwork didn't warn me that I had not enough free space on my SD and the backup had not enough space... However I managed to get the data I needed with this tool from a German forum: http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...6339-nandroid-backup-auslesen.html#post592908
Copy your .img to your computer, open with and choose the unyaffs.exe, works perfectly well
Now I still don't know why I wasn't able to get past the "Getting Started" Android first steps, but I'm going to flash again (this time with everything safely backed up) and see if it works this time.
Glald you figured it out. Hopefully you'll have better luck with it next time around.

[HELP] clockworkmod folder (internal sdcard)

After making a (failed) nandroid backup through PhilZ CWM Touch 3 (latest, based on 6.0.1.5 if I'm not wrong), I saw into my "clockworkmod" folder
a folder named "µAA" and its weight is aroung 72GB. That's obviously not possible since my SDcard has 16GB of max capability.
The problem is: I can't delete this folder.
Any way to solve this? It's annoying me really much because I can't take photos or videos, and also I can't open the gallery.
Onnect your phone to pc and delete it from the pc
It it doesnt work, then copy all the useful data to pc and then format sdcard

Connect to PC & copy only the necessary files like photos, videos, data etc..then format the Ext memory card..I think this is the only option, since you are unable to delete it..I had this same issue in my previous phone's memory card..

[Q] [Important] Best Backup ?

Simple question;
What do you use as backup and restore solution ?
I want my backup software to make an image when I'm doing a backup and only recover from the image when it's restoring (so overwrite any other data that's on my phone before the restoration)
For my apps and their data I use titanium backup.
For contacts, sms, call logs, bookmarks, calendar I use Super Backup.
I use root explorer to move my pictures and music to SD card.
After that . I flash a new ROM. Works every time.
Edit:Never seen anything that actually makes an image backup expect TWRP recover
Sadly. I think you will have to use what I offered.

MI 3 Restore issue

Hi ,
If any one can help over this iusse for MI3
What i did : I wanted to reset my phone hence i took all back up and i did facotry reset my phone. Meanwhile the back up file created in my phone , i copied the same to my hard drive.
Now after the reset has been done i want to restore all the data and hence i pasted the back up file in my phone memory.
But here the issue comes i am not able to restore the file , because the phone is picks up the file which it creates not the ones being copied from other memory source.
Please suggest how can i recover the files.
Crux : I have the back file in my hard disk ( external memory ) but my phone is not able to pick it up (once pasted in phone memory) for restore
(just asking) Have you tried deleting the system generated file and replacing it with you hard drive backup?
If you have it with the same name, it should pick it up.
Also have you upgraded the OS?
Do you have a custom recovery?
Do you have root access?
Most of the data like contacts etc and be sync from Google.
