Hi everyone, this is for those who have owned both the 2nd-gen Moto X and the Droid Turbo. I'm currently a Turbo owner but I'm thinking about switching to the X for a few reasons (onscreen buttons, faster camera, less bulky, terrible wifi on the Turbo). I realize that the Turbo has much better battery life; however, this is not a concern for me since I work at home and have constant access to a charger. I also don't care about the display resolution as 1080p is just fine for me, and the Snapdragon 801 in the X also doesn't matter vs the 805 since there are fewer pixels to push.
My primary concern with making this change is the camera quality. I don't care that the X has fewer megapixels since 13 is still pretty good; however, I've heard that the 2014 Moto X doesn't have a very good camera quality wise (then again, I've also read that it's mostly comparable to the Turbo in that regard). Is there anyone who has owned both of them who can give me an idea of how the cameras compare between these two phones (particularly in low light, which the Turbo does NOT excel at)?

Hmm, I owned a 2014 X before the Turbo, and in my experience, the camera was noticeably improved with the 5.1 OTA. IMO, you will find it satisfactory

My contract with verizon is up soon and i am deciding between both these phones.. I love the style and near naked android feel of the moto x but i have real concerns for battery life throughout the day.The turbo is a powerhouse on the battery side and is strong overall ,the thickness and size makes it less pocket friendly and the capacitive buttons aren't optimal... Since moto x has been out awhile i was looking to get opinions from owners on their likes/dislikes and if they would still pick a moto x over a turbo.. thanks
I just checked out the Turbo the other day and wasn't really impressed with it. The screen is better, but not THAT much (I'm not a QHD fan), and the fact that it requires extra horsepower just to match the performance of flagship 1080p phones like the X, it doesn't seem any faster or smoother than the X does. The X has a much better design, better in hand feel, better build materials, is more pocketable, and while it doesn't have 2 day battery life like the Turbo (per Motorola's claims) it still gets pretty amazing battery life. I average 6 hours screen time daily, and never have to plug my phone in before bedtime. I really wanted to like the Turbo as I had my eyes set on the Moto Maxx that's supposed to be coming out soon, but my honestly unbiased opinion is that the X is the better all around device.
I'm looking for a replacement Android phone. I'm off contract, so I'm buying it outright.
I've basically narrowed my selection down to the Moto G 2014 or the Moto X 2013. They're available for very close to the same price where I live. (Canada).
My wife and I share the phone. She's not a power user, and I work from home in front of a computer all day. A decent camera is a priority--how does the 10MP on the X (but with clearpixel) compare with the 8MP on the G?
I like the idea of the always-listening voice commands on the Moto X, as well as the wrist-flip to wake the camera and the low-power notifications, but it looks like the new G has better battery life and possibly a nicer screen.
Anyone know whether Lollipop on the 2013 Moto X will allow for customizable phrases? I don't really want to be saying "OK Google Now" to wake it up all the time...
To summarise:
The camera, screen and storage options are better on the G.
The multitasking, battery life, and features (Touchless control / active notifications) are better on the X.
Which to buy depends on what you need from your device. If camera is important go for the G, if your a power user go for the X.

Nope, battery life sucks on the X. I used to barely touch 4hours SOT and i.e. with location off and low brightness.
Currently have a G 2014 and I've location on and auto brightness, easily get 5 and a half plus hours of SOT.

If you can get a good deal for the 64gigs variant of the Moto X like say 300$, go for it. Otherwise the G is the phone for you.
Something must be wrong with your X. The X is nearly a year older but easily pulls in 4.5 to 5 hours of sot. Even with 4g, active notifications etc. Therefore comparatively the battery is better. When I first got the device 5.5 hours sot was the norm. In 1 year time due to the smaller battery you would be lucky to get 4 hours sot with the G.

I have no idea why anyone would recommend anything other than the X if you can find it at a decent price. The X can be had for about 250 on ebay easily.
It has better camera, cpu, ram, hardware contruction, LTE and does have full day battery life. Not to mention the exclusive moto features like always listening and active display which are downright awesome.
Yes the G has a memory slot and slightly better battery but its a cheap budget phone while the moto x was a flagship. Last years Moto X was tripple the price of a g at launch because it was a premium phone. There is litterally nothing else better about the g.
The camera of the 2013 X is inferior to the 2014 G. Bottom line.
Source? I have used both 2013 G and X and the X is a much better camera.
All reading I have done shows the 2014 models are very similar in camera quality to their 2013 counterparts.
Had an X, use two lines and got tired of carrying two phones, been looking for a close to stock android dual as I was tired of Samsung crap. Finally got a way to order the G"14 dual and went for it, like it very much as the dual Sim implementation is nicely done and the phone is quite good, not with its caveats but nice for the price. Now, I REALLY MISS MY X, this G, nice and all is not even close in almost every aspect. Once you get used to active notifications is hard to live without it. Get the X, won't regret it.
At least you can look forward to ambient display when you get lollipop.

How is the screen on the Moto G (2014) better than the one on the original X? the original X has a sharper display but most important it is a FULL RBG OLED panel. The OG X has LTE, the only reason I would get the new Moto G is because you need micro SD support on your phone, otherwise the original X is better, more RAM, a better SoC, better camera, more compact and overall more premium, besides the micro SD slot, the only thing that I can think of better about the new G is the stereo speakers and maybe better software support in the future.
I'd pick the X any day because of Moto Voice,Moto Display and 2GB of ram. Screen is debatable. G screen is bigger but it is not as sharp and then there's the whole matter of whether you prefer bright whites of LCD or deep blacks of AMOLED. The size of the X is better IMO. Also X has 2GB of ram; you will see that recent apps there is little to no reloading where as on the G with 1GB, there is more reloading going on when you jump from app to app and back. This is a big deal for me, 2GB ram offers a much better seemless experience than 1GB.
I own the moto x(2013) moto g(2013) moto e and my wife and best friend have the moto g(2014) and let Me tell u. They all jealous of the moto x. It beats the G in every way. Last night I did a side by side camera comparison n the x look better. The x is also faster n if benchmark means anything to u the x bench 8k more than the G. Only downside Is that the G already had 5.0 update while im still waiting.

The camera on the X is not better than the G 2014 , the photos are barely usable compared to the G which have better colouring, less graininess in low light and better flash photography.
Get the X. It's built with better materials, has 2GB of RAM, is more compact and has a highger quality display. Moto G 2014 is nice, but it just has MicroSD slot going for it. Camera on both phones are not good.

I don't know about Lollipop but on my stock 2013 Moto X (XT 1053) running KItKat, I have trained it to respond to "OK Moto".

Hardly usable is a huge exaggeration. Unless all you do is take pictures in dark places, the Moto X is decent shooter. Sure the colour is off but with lollipop coming , apps that can take advantage of the new camera api will solve this problem.

I just got the Moto G 4G 2015 XT1072 for my wife and I have the Moto X 2013, so now the 4G is out of the question... and I have to agree, Moto G camera is better than the X, low light and close up photos, G beats the X quite easily, so if camera is important, G is the way to go, if multimedia is important, G is the way to go (bigger screen and front facing speakers), active display, just install CM12 has it and you can wake up the phone just by waving your hand (CM12 feature), just like the MOTO X 2014, the only thing that I notice is that the G is not that great, is at multitasking, if a heavy web page is opened (XDA for example, now has loads of advertisement :-[ ) and try to multitask, you will see the limitations of the 1gb RAM.

Moto X user here. The camera is pathetic, and I mean it. Other than that, I love the phone. 2 gigs of RAM and the processing power is amazing. I'm fed up with the fact that it is still yet to receive Lollipop, other than that really satisfied. If you can forgive the camera, Moto X is a good choice.

Hey guys, I'm interested in upgrading my phone. I love my moto g and I'm undecided BTW these two phones. Which one would you go with?
I know the turbo has better specs in every department than the X, but I love the style and customizable options of the X.
I would probably go with 32gb storage.
Moto X unless you really want the extra battery life. My dad got the Turbo. It's a very nice phone, but not quite as smooth, attractive, or comfortable.
Yeah, that's my biggest issue with the turbo... Its not as sleek.
I'm only concerned with the whole specs thing... The turbo clearly has better specs than the Moto x. But then again that's not everything. I'm concerned when it comes to "futureproofing"
The "better" specs are meaningless when you're pushing almost twice as many pixels.
X all the way. I was in same boat. So glad I chose to build a custom X on Moto Maker. That Turbo is just so damn ugly. And those buttons, dont even get me started. Good Luck!

Any of you guys experiencing problems with lollipop?
I returned my turbo and bought the moto x. Besides battery life, I think the moto x has fewer issues. But I get a full day out of a charge, so ho hum. I bought the turbo day 1 and went through 4 replacements before giving up. Having Lollipop already is an added bonus. However volte is not yet enabled.
The Turbo is slick, but I think the Moto X is a better designed phone. Aside from the fact that it looks better, it is also built better, with better materials. The Turbo has better specs, but they don't translate to better performance, with that unnecessarily high resolution screen being the culprit. The only thing that the Turbo does better is battery life, but considering the X can still make it through a full day no problem, I don't think it's worth getting the Turbo for that point alone. The X is the best phone ever made, IMO, so that is what I recommend.
I tested the Turbo and Moto X side by side for a week. I really wanted to like the Turbo because of the better specs but it didn't work out that way. WiFi connectivity was much better on the X. 4G speeds tested using speed test.net were noticeably better on the X. The X just feels way better in your hand. Battery life on the X was sufficient so not a real factor for me. For overall user experience the Moto X is a great phone

I'm planning to buy a custom made 64GB Moto X for $299 or a 16GB Nexus 5x.
Is the Moto worth the money?
I really care about the speaker, the build quality and the screen-to-body ratio.

Personally, I would go for the Moto as the 16gb of storage on the 5x will fill up quickly. Aside from that the device runs fine to this date, has a wonderful speaker and has a good build quality in my opinion.

Thank you, I already buy a 64GB Moto X Pure Edition.
Well, the 2014 Moto X probably won't see another (major) update after Marshmallow - assuming you have the Pure Edition. Because otherwise you won't even get that (in the US at least, not sure about other countries). Plus the 5X has a better camera and much better battery life - though I do agree it's bezels are HUGE compared to the Moto X and its build quality is probably a bit worse. The Moto features are nice though.
Storage is very important though, so you probably made the right decision.

All the Xs from "other countries" (the rest of the world) are getting 6.0.
I think the "much better battery life" on the 5x is only because of Marshmallow... Have you tried it on the X? I have and I'm consistently getting 4 h SOT at least.

I get better battery life on my moto x pure than my nexus 5x. I'm in the 4.5-5.25 SOT range with the pure. The 5x I get 3.75-4.5 sot.
But OPs sticking points all lean towards the Moto X. Speaker is no comparison. Moto x kills it. Holding the 5x and the moto x side by side it is incredibly disappointing that the bezels are so large on the 5x. With all the reviews calling it a "compact device", it is terribly unwielding. Screen sizes are out of control. 5.2" is the upper echelon of one handed usability. The moto x bezels and form factor allow it to be used semi comfortably. However the 5x feels like such a larger phone, and using the 5.2" screen feels like trying to use a 5.5" screen compared to the moto x.
I was just going off reviews and the fact that the 5x has a larger battery. And no my Moto X hasn't gotten Marshmallow so battery life isn't too great.
