WiFi Tether Router - T-Mobile LG G4

This section is pretty bare so I thought I'd share this app that I have been using to enable unlimited tethering. It was recently updated to work on LG 5.X devices and it really works. My phone does really heat up when it's enabled, but I guess that's a small price to pay to have to worry about the tethering cap.

I use it too, it was a little funky to set up but it works. I also agree on the heating up. It does have some issues charging while it is active. I left it on accidentally over night and it was plugged in. When I looked at it in the morning it was at 40% battery. Either way still worth it.

I've been successfully running WiFi Tether Router.
LTE Tether Patch is checked.
You have to set up an APN with IPv4.
Make sure you switch to the APN you set up with IPv4 protocol.
After you connect via WiFi to your pc, check to make sure WiFi Tether Router is using data from your unlimited phone data and not the Tmo Hotspot (5gb cap)

For what it's worth, if you have unlimited data with tmo you should have 7gb of hot spot. It was increased automatically when they updated their plans.

I'm still showing 5gb for some reason.
I'll have to check into it, as I see that it was increased to 7gb from 5gb.
Thanks

Set up the new APN with the same settings as your existing APN which is named T-Mobile LTE.
Double & triple check the settings.
The only setting which will be different is the IPv4 setting.
I named my new APN; T-Mobile LTE 2.
I also turned my WiFi off when I'm using WiFi Router.
Your pc should see WiFi Router which you will then connect to.
The above info is for my H811.
I see you have a Note 4.
I would think that my instructions should also work.
But look on the WiFi Router instructions to see if anything should be set differently for the Note 4.

The APN Protocol needs to be IPv4, and I wasn't able to change my native protocol, the APN that's programmed into the phone which has IPv6, so I programmed a 2nd APN, which I am able to change. I use the 2nd APN when I use WiFi Router, and then I switch back to the IPv6 protocol APN when I disconnect from WiFi Router.

I didn't change no apn or check lte patch and so far I have used 40gb of wifi tether .

I just tried my original (native) APN w/IPv6 and unchecked LTE Tether Patch in WiFi Router, and it is confirmed working. Looks like the issue I was having previously regarding not connecting was unrelated to setting up a new APN, and coincidentally started working after connecting to the newly set up APN.

I'm using Method 2.
I am able to connect using either/or:
- APN Protocol IPv4
- APN Protocol IPv6
- LTE Tether Patch checked
- LTE Tether Patch unchecked
*Important*
When you connect to WiFi Router, check your data to make sure you are using your Unlimited Data and not your Hotspot alloted data.

Don't want to sound silly, but is there a proper guide on how to set up an apn on this phone? Would really like to tether my laptop.

To set up a new APN, press:
- Settings
- More
- Mobile Networks
- Access point names
- Press the 3 dots in upper right
- New APN
Using the settings from your existing T-Mobile LTE, fill in the following fields for your new APN, with the following changes notated with an * -
*Name
(T-Mobile LTE 2 or whatever you'd like)
APN
MMSC
MCC
MNC
*APN type
(default,supl,mms,dun)
*APN protocol
(IPv4)
I set up my new APN a while ago, but I am able to use my original APN (T-Mobile LTE) to tether without issue.
When you tether, check your account to make sure your data is being used from your included Unlimited Data and not from your Hotspot limited data.

So this app lets me use more then 7gb of teathering....so this is the teathering hack?

[Fix] Wifi-Tether Fix Under 3G (Evdo) Network

My experience with android-wifi-tether went from PURE AWESOMENESS under the 4G LTE network to complete crap under the 3G network. However, I found a solution that will work for now.
It turns out that the Gingerbread operating system removes the MSS clamping feature in the wifi tether program. Since EVDO networks are different from LTE networks, they both use different MTU values. It appears that once you leave the LTE network while tethering, the MTU doesn't change automatically within wifi tether with the LG Revolution phone. So here's the solution for those who are traveling in a EVDO network with the Revo.
Conditions:
On EVDO network
Using gingervolt 1.3
Using Windows 7 Professional PC (64bit)
Using this fix in Tulare County, CA (No LTE here yet)
Problem:
android-wifi-tether 3.1 BETA11 doesn't tether properly under EVDO network
What Works:
Pinging
What doesn't work:
Everything else (http, ftp, etc...)
Solution Attempts:
wipe phone - failed
Working Solution:
Change MTU settings with the PC's wifi card
Instructions:
Change your MTU settings of your WIFI card to 1024 while tethering
Run "cmd" as a administrator
Run "netsh"
Then enter this "interface"
then "ipv4"
then "set subinterface "Wireless Network Connection" mtu=1024 store=persistent"
Note: Make sure you have the correct name of the card. Mine was "Wireless Network Connection" since I only have one WIFI card on my laptop. You can check by going to the "Change Adapter settings" window inside "Network and Sharing Center"
Once you are done tethering, return the MTU to 1500 with the same method or else your wifi card will not be able to talk to anything else.
Enjoy!
Actually, I haven't had any issues with 3g, 4g, wifi, hotspot, etc with MTU settings using MTU=1458.
Set Windows or Linux (Have not tested MacOS) to that and you shouldn't have any issues. I never change them, even when going to a standard WiFi Access Point.
Here's a great site (basically explaining your process) showing the procedure in Windows 7 that might help you or others out that I found a while back when I had issues:
http://www.richard-slater.co.uk/archives/2009/10/23/change-your-mtu-under-vista-or-windows-7/

I just tried 1458. Some websites work but response from the same websites were slow in Tulare County, CA

[Q] Wi-Fi hostspot with enryption (for non-tethering APN)

Did anyone get some hotspot app working that doesn't use AT&T tethering APNs? I don't have the hotspot/tethering feature from AT&T on my account, but I got an old version (2.0.7) of this:
https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
working. It creates an AP, and I can connect my laptop to it and browse. My APN stays "wap.cingular" (cause I'm on a legacy data plan).
However that version of tether app doesn't seem to either find WPA supplicant or not able to configure it. Either way, my AP comes up unsecured even though the app thinks it is.
Anything better than this out there that is free?

I've searched and searched but there's nothing I could find. I think jmz had a thread somewhere around here to get WiFi tethering working but I don't know if it worked 100%. the application I use to the tether is via bluetooth but also available through usb using foxfi btw. If that works for you, easy tether might be better depending on what you want

Jmz'm method adds APNs into telephony.db and that's the way to tether through provider's (paid) service you have on your account. I can't connect to that APN unless I start paying for that service. To be exact, the network rejects my AT&T sim when I try to connect and I'm left with no data connection of any kind. My sim is only good for "wap.cingular" APN.
This thread is for non-APN tethering methods.

HotSpot and Tethering

Now that some of us are getting there Note 4 devices.
Has anyone been able to get free tethering or unlocked hotspot?
I have unlimited data plan and 5 GB tethering but on the G3 for example, there is a mod by @autoprime where you can use your mobile data as the hot spot data thus giving you the ability to have unlimited tethering.
Is something like this similar to the Galaxy Note 4?
Im familyer with Foxfi and PDANet but with our device being new, I don't think there compatible.
Any information from anyone would help out allot thanks!

Get an app on the Play Store called WiFi Tether Router - http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter -
Configure it and go down towards the bottom and hit "APN Settings". In there you will see you main APN that is used (fast.t-mobile.com)
You're going to have to make a brand new one with all of the details identical to the original, but where it says "Roaming Protocol", change that from ipv4 to ipv6, that way it is taking off of your data plan and not your tether plan.
That's how it was done on the Note 3, haven't tried on this yet. Haven't had a reason to tether.

I actually tether a lot with my wifi devices and kids' tablets.
So you're confirming that,w ith WiFi Tether Router, you can tether unrestricted?
I'm used just using the native HotSpot since many ROMs include unrestricted native tethering. I just remember that WiFi Tether Router has a lot of settings, but none that were relevant to my devices.

After creating a second APN with the ip4 protocol... Is WiFi Tether App even needed?
On my G3 if u create a second APN the phone on G3 stock ROM wouldn't even let you activate your own APN.
On this Note 4 I created my custom APN and its active. I noticed when I activate the hotspot it stays on my custom APN. Previous phones would force the APN selection to change when u activate hotspot. Not on the Note 4 though.
If anyone is having trouble with this app a new version updated for the note 4 will be released tomorrow on the app store.

Looks its more to it then just changing APN looks like WiFi Tether Router app is needed. I'm subscribed and I'm able to test different things if needed. I have hit my tether limit already of 5GB.
My G3 which I gave to my wife has a mod made by @autoprime and her phone has full unlimited hot spot. All data is counted at mobile data.

WiFi Tether Router
I use the WiFi Tether Router found here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
I've had my S6 for two days now and have used this app a fair amount and haven't seen any change in my mobile hot spot data. So I assume it's working fine like it did on my Note 4. Only difference is the way it's configured.

APN type: default,supl,mms

WiFi Tether Configuration:
Always Allow Scanning: Unchecked
-Network Name SSID – I just added my name at the end: IE WiFiTether-Glen
-Encryption: wpa2-psk (which should be default anyways)
-WiFi Password: I left stock
-WiFi Channel: 1

-No Firmware Reload: Unchecked
-Drivers: Default setting of nl80211
-WiFi Mode: G ( maybe this could be different but I don’t mess with it)
-Keep Screen on: Unchecked
-Prevents Stand-By: Checked
Last but not least:
-Go Into your WiFi (regular Wifi, not the Tether router Wifi) and delete all existing WiFi network connections so when you turn your WiFi on you're "Not" connected to any network.
-Then you can turn on the WiFi Tether router and it should work fine.
-After you get it set up, you should be able to go back and set up those WiFi networks like before .

My pleasure. One thing I forgot to add is that when turning on the Wifi router, you first have to turn your WiFi on itself but you can't be connected to any WiFi Connections. In Other words I went into my WiFi settings and deleted all my WiFi connections. Then I turned on the WiFi (again without connecting to any WiFi networks), then I turned on the Wifi Tether Router.
Hope that made sense. I'll adjust my other post.
I will look into enabling native tether when I get my device later tonight.

You can run quicksshd or another dropbear ssh server, do adb forward of the ssh port, then open a dynamic port (socks proxy) using ssh on linux/unix or putty on windows. Any sort of wifi tethering without a plan will require root at SOME point though.

Set mine up exactly like your other post with no luck. According to T-Mobile my account, the tethering allotment is going up.
Edit: looks like it is just Netflix that ramps up the data allotment. Weird. Everything else appears okay thus far.
Edit 2: after switching it off and on now Netflix is working without issue too.
Be aware that T-Mobile does scan for desktop HTTP headers. If they detect that you are using (for instance) IE on Windows on a Mobile APN, they will not give you any sort of message, they just deduct it from your account. When you hit your tethering cap you can tell if you are being blocked because of the wrong apn if the url of the upsell page contains "pcweb". if so you will have to make sure it is not using the wrong apn. Otherwise they are just detecting your http headers, and you will need to spoof them for whichever browsers you are using. (The steam in-app browser always gets me when I forget.)
im really just looking to be able to stream movies from home and it would be nice to just use the phone as my external line while at work but maybe there will be a solution like a hdmi out to my monitor at work and then i wont really need the tethering because i have an unlimited account with no throttling so no need to worry about usage.

Yeah I hear what your saying. It depends sometimes what your tethering to. For example tethering to a laptop is more risky. The app will work sometimes and at other times the mobile data will get hit. With a laptop it's good to use spoofed browsers. I've used the google chrome browser and spoofed it as Safari and that worked pretty good. When tethering my android tab or any other android based device, my mobile data rarely gets hit.
So IMO it's a very good app but not perfect, our mobile hotspot data can get hit at times depending. Just keep a close eye on it, try different things etc.
-Good Luck.
I have been using the wifi tether router app for a long time now with my Surface Pro 3 without issue. First with my Note 4 and now with my S6. The key is to modified got T-Mobile US APN to ipv4. I use able 120gb a month. That is with 2 Windows laptop's and 2 phones tethering every day at work. No using user agents as well.
I have native tether working. I'll post the mod instructions a bit later after work, or sooner if I catch a break.

I think.. you lose data speed because you are transferring data from the phone to the target.
kind of like how if you hook up your computer to your router via ethernet you get faster speeds then if you connected to your router with a wireless card. Also, wireless routers are designed to transfer data wirelessly. I dont think our phones are designed to this.
I think if you change the wifi tether pro's settings to N mode instead of G mode you should get faster speeds. why? because N routers are more expensive then G routers.
just a novice's guess.
thanks for the information you guys post on this website btw. You guys are what makes android phones worth having.

WIFI Tether Router now works

I've used WIFI Tether Router for several phones with great success.
I know all about the adding of ,dun to apns
But if you already have root Wifi Tether Router does not need any mods. It might also works on CDMA (roaming), where the ,dun trick does not.
It also might be less traceable by sprint.

I think everything else is default.
If you scroll to bottom of Configuration there is a Link to "devices configurations/website"
I had the Native tether working too and I removed the ",dun" mod from my APN's to test this.
Mine shows Build 165
Does SuperUser pop up to grant permission?
It might not work on roaming (CDMA), same limitation as the Native mod (i.e. adding ,dun).
Who-Hoo Wifi Tether Router works on roaming (i.e. works on non Sprint CDMA Networks). The adding of ,dun to APN's method only works on Sprint Networks (i.e. LTE and eHPRD). WIFI Tether Router works on everything. But you do need root.
Tested on rooted ZV6.
can someone please explain how to add ,dun to apn? ive looked online and see lines of provisional code being added. this was on a tmobile nexus 6 and i wasnt sure if thats the way for all phone. thanks in advance!
There is a video specific to the Sprint phone, where the guy walks through the steps one by one showing each step and result to add the dun info, though I don't recall if it was specifically the apn info that was modified?
Anyway, you need an app that can create shortcuts for hidden features of the phone, as explained on the guide. Install that app, that allows you to run the program built into the phone that lets you edit the thing to add the dun text and save it.
Sorry I don't recall the details, but it's another thread here about free wifi tether or hotspot.

Which hotspot method, Native (with ,dun added to APN's) or WIFI Tether Router?
I saw similar issue when trying to tether on Ev-Do it will connect for a moment and disconnect.
The APN method will not work on Ev-Do (usually that means roaming but not always).
Latest WIFI Tether Router will work on Ev-Do but requires root.

so i checked my default and its what OP has aside from the ,dun thing.
I am having an issue with wifi tether router where it will connect for a while and then the wifi signal will stop on its own. I have to kill and restart wifi tether router to regain a connection. I am wondering if this is a heating problem as the phone gets fairly hot when using wifi tether router. Is there a way to reduce the wifi radio power on the G4?
Uncheck "Allow Wifi Scanning" in advanced wifi settings. Should stop the signal from going away.

Yes
So just had something weird happen want to see if anyone else ran into this. I just reset for the month yesterday and My Metro app is showing 1.3 gigs used (all tethered with app). While playing Xbox I get a message saying I have used all of my hotspot data. I checked data usage on Xbox I haven't even used a gig yet. Also they didn't throttle my data. Anyone know what's going on?
