Screen brightness automatically adjusting with auto brightness turned off - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just like it says in the title, my screen brightness is clearly automatically adjusting even though auto brightness is turned off, its kind of annoying. Is this a heating issue because of the snap dragon 810? Anybody else having this problem? Thanks.

It is a heat issue. They decided to throttle the brightness to prevent even further throttling of the cpu. You can modify it with root though

How? Putting the throttle threshold higher? I have root.

Replace this file in /system/etc/ with the one in the zip
Permissions should be rw-r--r--
This file dictates the thermal throttling temperatures, cpu changes, and brightness.
The one I uploaded is the same one but with brightness never throttled.
Use at your own risk. Unsure what would happen if it can't find it properly/permissions are wrong/etc

Yes, that looks correct

I hope it's okay to ask this here, I spent about an hour this morning looking to see if there was a root for this phone and just kept seeing stuff saying a root was in the works. Could you direct me to a root tutorial or something? Sorry about the late reply I've been really busy and thanks for all the help! I really want to fix this because I can't stand not having my brightness turned all the way up. Thanks again.

[Q] Wanted: Dev for script to turn off WiFi JUST before sleep...

Guys, I know there's a thread dedicated to this in the General area, but I wanted to toss this out there in case one of our great Devs could come up with an easy fix. Sorry if I shouldn't be posting this here (and feel free to move it if it shouldn't be in the Dev forum), but I thought it was worthy.
The Nook Color is a wonderful device, but these auto-reboots with WiFi enabled are driving me nuts. I was wondering... since there is obviously a place where the screen timeout is held (i.e., if I set it to X min), shouldn't it be possible to alter WiFi connectivity according to that same time. For example, if I have my screen set to time out at X min of inactivity, can we set the WiFi to turn off at 'X min of inactivity (minus) 10s' ? This would prevent the rebooting, as WiFi would be off just before the screen is disabled.
I know this isn't a pure fix, but it would at least be a nice stop-gap until a true fix is found.
Please?
You might be able to use the Setting Profiles app to make a profile that automatically shuts off the wifi when the NC goes to sleep.

The nook does this automatically. The problem is, it needs to happen before it goes to sleep - the WiFi being on when it goes to sleep is the issue.
I don't think the consensus is that the Wifi is causing issues. Have you tried the CPU governor fix?
You can also play with Wifi shutoff settings in Spare Parts.

Yeah, I've messed around with the CPU stuff in both setcpu and whatever the other app was. Neither completely fixed it. I've turned WiFi on/off and tested about 40 times now. No issues with WiFi off. Always an issue with it on.
Also checked in SpareParts and that didn't help either. Frustrating :-/
You set Wifi sleep to never?

Ok, but my point was that if Setting Profiles is still actively working a task by executing the profile change, the NC may not actually go to sleep until the WiFi has been disabled by SP.
Has this actually been tried, or is there just an assumption that it won't work? I haven't been following the other thread.

Checking it out now. Thanks.
Edit: Ok. You may, seriously, be my favorite person. I didn't know about this app and really didn't think it would work (as other apps that do this sort of stuff with profiles haven't), but I haven't had a reboot issue in about 6 screen-offs (sounds insignificant, but it's night and day)! Thank you!
Lol, OK. Feel free to post how you configured Setting Profiles in the other thread so other people can test it.
I haven't messed with SP much. I just use it to mute Notifications on my phone between 10:00pm and 7:00 am.

[Q] Increase Vibration strenght?

Does anybody know a way to increase the strenght of vibration during calls or notifications? I usually use my phones in only vibrating mode, but with the z1s vibration strenght is so low for me that it is very hard to notice it. I cannot find it in the settings, so does anybody know where this setting is hidden, and if it doesnt exists, does anybody know another way to increase it other way?
Thanks in advance!

same question here: i find vibration not to be strong enough
Yeah.
Some custom ROMs can do this..
Or you can use the app "Vibration Config" from Play Store (need root)
(Sorry, I can't post links :'D)

Keeping screen on when charging?

I've tried relentlessly to find a way to keep the screen on while charging, to practically no avail.
I ended up installing an app called "Stay Awake", which worked in theory, however, after 5 seconds the screen adjusts to the dimmest setting which is nearly impossible to read unless you are in a dark room.
Without that app running nothing else works to keep the screen on during charging.
Anyone solved this issue yet?
Thanks
Why do you want to keep it on? There are some clock apps that i think do this. But not 100% on that.

I use it to stream music to my car stereo using Winamp. Its aggravating to have to turn the screen back on everytime I want to change the song/station.

What I described above is what happens with auto brightness off. After 5 or 6 seconds the screen dims, but stays on, which is fine at night, but during the day its unreadable.

You need a car dock app then. Dashdroid used to do it. Been years since i used one. But check out dock apps.
I recently came across a setting in Settings/Developer options/Stay awake. Perhaps that would do the trick

Did you enable the Developer settings by tapping repeatedly on the build number in settings? I have the setting on my Note 3. Or do you mean it doesn't really do the trick? Sorry lol

Try Screen Timeout Toggle. Great little app that worked for me when I needed this feature while on my Note 2.

The setting is under the developer options screen. (If you don't have developer options enabled go to settings->about device and tap on build number about 10 times. (half way thru tapping you'll see a pop up telling you how many taps are left))

Hello,
I am unable to set a custom alarm tone. I tried putting the ogg file in alarms and notifications, but just no luck.
Also the button backlights just don't seem to turn on.

Very stable, could be new FW forces higher voltage to WiFi unit, even the range is slightly extended. I noticed it because I get better signal in bathroom
@alray No keyboards support my language, so having swype or something like that is useless. But I will try with others, just for the sake of vibro

You are not forced to use the swipe functionally if you don't want, even if using swiftkey. You can change the vibration in swiftkey to what you like.

There is one thing you can try if your device is rooted. Not sure if it will work but if you go to play store and download keyboard backlight controller by deskangel, and then open it and tap lock on backlight it might work.

It works, but the buttons remain lit even after you turn the screen off.
Make sure "only when screen on" is enabled. I cant test it because I don't want root anymore

Thats very weird that Light Flow affected your WiFi. I personally had used Light Flow and had no problems. I stopped using it because of the constant superuser requests.
Glad to hear it was resolved

That I know, but it causes additional battery drain for the constant requests etc. It's mentioned in the light flow thread that it causes wakelocks.
