Best Possible Battery Saver App - HTC One M7? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all HTC One users,
I know there are tons of battery saver apps on Google Play and each one of them sounds to be greater or better than the rest however I have tried a few and I don't think there is any single one of them which hardly does anything or makes a difference as compared to not having one but still I would like to know which ones are worth giving a try and possibly one that's also worth keeping in the device, an app that doesn't drain battery either.
Please post your suggestions including the name of the apps and also give your reasoning as to why you prefer that app and what about it you like.

There are many options to save some power. I'm saving maybe 15% battery on a typical day of use when using this setup:
Amplify (Xposed framework + root required) to block (or change the refresh rates) of some wakelocks
ElementalX kernel to undervolt the CPUs
Tasker + Secure Settings + Autosync to make a power saver profile
e.g:
When screen is turned off = turn off wifi, mobile data, underclock the cpus, turn off bluetooth (only if not connected to a device). Turn on mobile data or wifi once every 30 mins for 1 min and launch Autosync to sync the phone (facebook, mails etc)
Using HTC Power Saver mode

I remember when I had my HTC One unrooted, the battery life was horrible no matter what apps I used, n that was on KK, I can only imagine on LP. Take it from me I tried everything there is no app that will make a very big or substantial difference in battery on this phone if you are not rooted. Once u r rooted use amplify elementalx kernel greenify and power nap... Now I get almost triple the amount of battery I could ever get

Create a new profile in tasker based on screen state --> off
add a new task for that profile.
now create these actions in the profile:
wifi off
mobile data off
HTC energy saver on (requires secure settings)
set core 0-1-2-3 to your desired governor and max frequency (requires a custom kernel) (don't be to aggressive on the underclock or your phone will lag when turned back on)
wait 30 min
turn wifi/data on
launch autosync (plugin ---> autosync) ( to update all your account at once)
wait 1 minute
go back to step 1
So your phone will save battery when not used. wifi will be active for only 2 minutes per hours and your phone will be synced every 30 min. You can edit the wait time as you need.
Will try to upload my tasker profile soon so you can edit it for your needs.

Hey Alray can you please upload your Tasker profile? I'm very much interested to see how you have configured this Tasker + Secure Settings + Autosync setup.
I know you tried explaining but some things weren't clear, to be honest I'd be lying if I said "some things" because although I tried experimenting on my own I still doubt that I would have gotten things working since I'm new to Tasker and its an app which takes a while to get used to.
Could you upload your profile with screenshots if possible? Thanks.

[Q] Battery Drainage cannot be stopped!

I need help with my battery drainage, I cannot seem to track down what is the cause of my problems here. While at work I get a drain of anywere from 30-40 percent in about 5-6 hours! now that seems like ALOT.
I've tried stock, CM 6 R2, and Enom - I am on a custom kernel (2.6.35-925mV-CFS-SVS-720p-Monks-081010).. I am currently on that kernel and Enoms latest rom.
I've tried many things I've found on this forum. I installed "ShutUpBatterySaver", I removed my task manager, removed TiKL (heard it wasted battery while not in use), uninstalled ALOT of apps that I dont use/need just in case, Installed OSMonitor and watched to make sure nothing is using the CPU while its trying to sleep (I get less than 10 percent in use at any given time while the phone should be idle from android system mostly), I've stopped using live wallpapers and made sure my auto dim setting is on..
I'm not sure what else to do here Please Help!!
Thanks

Your system is using 10% cpu while the phone is IDLE??? Yeah, that's not right. Mine is in the noise (<1%) when idle.

me too the battery life on n1 sucks for me... i would unplug it then when i get to work on idle i turn it on it drops like 10 -15 percent in about an hour or so...??
Here is what I did.
1. Try to use black themes. I installed black desire bar and use black wallpaper.
2. Install SetCPU and set it to "on demand"
3. Change Wifi sleep policy to never.
4. Turn off autosync and use Shutupbatterysaver (This app automatically closes even after adding to task manager ignore list)
5. Remove widgets that auto refresh.
6. I'm using the same kernel as yours.
I also have **** battery life. Is it almost a must to calibrate the battery if you want to achieve good battery life?
Some people comment about how they have 36 hours of battery life OVERCLOCKED. If only my battery could come remotely close to that!
Unplugged my phone 1.25 hours ago and I'm already at 92%!
Edit: hmm, it tells me that my phone has been awake for 28 of the 75 minutes which is essentially impossible. Is there an issue where the phone takes too long to sleep?
I just recently got some very good usage out of my battery. Over night it only dropped something like 4%.
I'm not sure exactly what to attribute to as I've tried so many ROMS etc recently but the main things are probably
Installed SetCPU and set to 245min 500max
When in wifi location connect to it for data sync instead of 2g/3g as it uses less power when idle.

Something you're running is keeping it awake.. Most likely you have online/syncing/notifications on IM, Facebook, Twitter, something like that... Not the apps themselves, but them set to sync etc..
Spare Parts should be able to tell you what's keeping it awake.
What's UID 10018?

Some details I forgot origionally:
1. I have a black theme and my wallpaper is dark not black though
2. SetCPU is not installed but via spare parts I have my max at 107520 and govenor is on demand
3. My Wifi policy is never
4. i tried shutupbatterysaver and switched to juice defender but will probably switch back
5. I removed all widgets that auto refresh except the facebook widget (set to never refresh but it does anyway for some reason), and beutiful home widget set to update weather every 6 hours.

Here is a bit of my partial wake usage: Android system (Most), UID 10020, Dialer, Facebook, TiKL (anyone know what that is?), then News and Weather (I never use this not sure why its there), JuiceDefender, Handcent SMS.
OTher Usage shows: Running 54.9%, Screen on 27.1%, Phone on 15.9%, Wifi On 90.1%, Wifi Running 49.6% - All since last boot

In the process of calibrating my battery by draining it COMPLETELY (as in I can't even access the bootloader) and then charging it fully. I'll let you know if that helps!
Seems as if it's helped quite a bit. I managed to boot up, deal with the phone for a few minutes and download a 65MB file over WiFi and when I unlocked I was still at 99%. Try re-calibrating.
Try removing handcent. I used on my g1 and out was a serious battery hog.

Battery drainage on Galaxy Note

Well, hi guys, I have been a member on this forum for quite some time but due to bad memory I forgot my account so I made a new account, that's not my point of this topic.
I bought a new Galaxy Note and I simply love it, awesome phone, but I noticed something wrong. Yes! the battery...
My battery simply dies in 2 hours of usage (videos or listening to music while playing Wordfued)
I want a solution for that, I have my warrantry and all, shall I demand a new battery or something? I'm Swedish by the way.
And I'm sure you'll ask me about flashing a rom and root it.
I know that would make the phone faster, but I'd rather wait for the official ISC.
Only if I can do both of the things at the same time, if so then I will flash, please do read everything so you can watch from my prespective, thanks in advance.
That's definitely not normal. I get much, much more usage doing the same, so I would definitely try changing battery first and then changing the phone as a second option.

Fully agree.
I would get 4 to 5 hours of continuous use, I reckon. Some people report more.
I think the problem is with the battery. you can try this :http://www.amazon.com/2600mAh-Batte...I84K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1329085625&sr=8-4 . Just bought it and it give me like 6-7 hours of watching videos.
Thank you for the link. I was looking for a better battery. I home to find a vendor that ships to France though.
Thank you

Thank you my dear sir, I'll take that as the second option, I'll try getting a new battery since my warranty is vailed for 2 years.
Thank you though
No need for an extra battery or extended battery.
Install juice defender
Leave brightness on auto
disable 3g (it is on by default I believe and I noticed a big savings on batt %)
disable auto screen rotate(optional)
my phone is @ 44% left , lasted 11 hours 2 minutes , This will last me another 5-6 hours.
Did about 1 hour of gaming (myth defense)
30 min browsing on wifi
45 min on tapatalk
1.5 hours on the phone
1.5 hours streaming music to my desktop via kies air
I had posted something like this before...
1. Flash and test different kernels in case of battery drain. Some are easier on your battery than the others.
2. Use Titanium Backup to freeze or uninstall crapware. This list is a useful guide as to what can/can't be removed from your system: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
3. Set Brightness to low value, disable autobrightness
4. Disable or scale down vibration and haptic feedback
5. Automatic syncing of your accounts is battery consuming. Sync manually if you can
6. Set screen timeout to 15 seconds
7. Disable fast dormancy (dial *#9900# and do it from there)
8. Don't keep your WiFi/Packet Data on all the time. However, if you must have WiFi on the second you wake up your phone, go to Settings/Wireless and Network/Wi-Fi settings - once in Wi-Fi Settings, hit the menu button (the bottom left one), choose Advanced/Wi-Fi sleep policy/When Screen Turned Off. This way your connection will toggle on/off depending on your screen on/of state
9. Disable location services via wireless networks - are you travelling that fast that you need those?
10. GPS is heavy on the battery, therefore use it sparingly
And don't use Juice or any other battery 'defenders': they keep running in the background and consume your juice by trying to save it. Not to mention other problems they can (and often do) create.
Hope this helps.

I have found this too, although YMMV.
I use Llama (Location Aware Mobile App) to turn things of and on when I move about. I seems to work very well mostly:
1. Got rid of useless apps, and kill all listeners on new apps so they do not pop up (require root)
2. When at home or work, WiFi is on but sleeping when screen is off (this is the one that fails most often - need to monitor), data is off (to prevent use when WiFi is sleeping).
3. When out and about, data is on, sync is off (to save mobile data & battery).
Like this I can get very flat battery level graphs when the phone is asleep, which is what I want.
When the phone is awake, the only thing you can do is turn the screen auto orientation off (I use Llama to turn it on for certain apps), and keep the brightness down, and use dark themes for everything, really. Turn WiFi off when not using it would also help.
I just wish they had made the battery larger & thinner (as someone else said) so that a thicker battery could have been more effective still, like triple the capacity
Try disabling GPS, wifi and data connections when not in use to save battery. Also you could flash the latest abyssnote kernel. It has absolutely amazing battery life.

[Q] Battery problem

I have problem with my s3 mini.
I used stock ROM. it's still official without any root or something.
My baseband is DXAMB1.
My problem is, when I start my phone, the battery life up to 18 hours. But after 70-80 hours up time, the battery suddenly really sucks.
it just about 9-10 hours a day. For example (I forgot to screen capture), I charged my phone and full at 11 pm and then in the morning (6 am) it says my battery 50%. When I look at the battery status it says Android OS stay awakes for 6 hours.
After I restart my phone, it back to normal. When I woke up, it says 80% battery and Android OS stay awakes for 1 hours.
Everytime my battery life become sucks, I need to restart the phone.
Is anybody have the some problem with me? And how to fix this?
It just sucks that I have to restart my phone every 3 days.

I was pretty curious about this option too, some time ago, so I googled it and finally came to the opinion that it is like using a task manager, = useless on Android, because it has its own RAM manager.
This option to limit process is what it is: for developers, to test how their eventual app handle once it goes in background, and what if once killed. (read http://www.extremetech.com/computing/112013-how-multitasking-works-on-android-and-ios/2)
My personal advice/choice for a longer life for your battery:
1 - root your device and freeze/delete bloatware (system apps: first freeze them, see how it goes, then, delete them (after making a backup)
2 - use
A) Juice Defender (balanced or aggressive), set 2g connection when the device is in your pocket,
B) Use Wakelock Detector to check what most consumes your battery (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en)
3 - use wifi and 3g only when needed, - don't count on the smartness of automatic mode 2g/3g under data
4 - switch off syncronization if you don't need it 24h (whatsapp / viber will work anyway)
5 - settings / display /
A) Auto adjust display tone ON
B) Turn off softkeys (I know exactly where 'back' and 'option' keys are..)
6 - Power saving mode ON for screen and cpu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTLTBo2DRQA)
7 - Disable double tap on home button for S-Voice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmU8hXUXNFE)
8 - Keep normally a mid-low brightness level, you can adjust it quickly if needed, can't you?
9 - Disable Auto-update in Google Play (you can update manually)
10 - How To Disable Samsung Push Service and Samsung Ad Utility Services (http://www.eyes4tech.com/2013/03/ho...e-samsung-push-service-and-samsung-ad-utility)
11 - Turn OFF vibration (actually, I like it and I use it for SMS and incoming phone calls)
12 - Set airplane mode when you go to sleep (or just switch it off if you don't count on it for morning alarm or to use it as an eventual light)
13 - Never use a Task manager
Assuming you're enough smart for keeping Bluetooth OFF if you don't need it, by this way, according to my daily use (phone calls, texting, internet, no gaming), I recharge it each 1d 15/22 hrs.
Hopefully this helps. :cyclops:

I got 99 problems but my battery life ain't 1.
How to get the best battery life out of your Nexus 5
1. Location Services : If you are not in a neighborhood with a lot of wifi spots you will most likely feel this draining your battery life. Under settings make sure that Location Services is set to battery saving and not High accuracy.
2. Widgets : Weather widgets, games eat battery by constantly fetching information . Check the settings for these widgets and make sure they are using wifi and not updating the weather information every 30 mins or so. I keep my settings to update weather information every hour to keep it reasonable. The Gmail widget sometimes eats your battery too. I removed the widget and used an icon in the dock at the bottom to check my email.
3. Restart your phone : Sometimes residual processes from closed apps could cause issues. Restart your phone if you haven't done it in a while and it should clear up any unnecessary things.
4. Keep wifi on during sleep : I made sure my phone uses wifi even when its sleeping. 3g / 4g eats the battery like crazy if you turn off wifi when your phone sleeps. This should be a default setting as pointed out by some users. In my case it had been changed probably when I was tinkering with the phone. You can find this setting in the Settings -> Wifi -> advanced -> Keep wifi on during sleep.
You can also use apps like Greenify , Tasker , and Llama.
5. Don't use Automatic Brightness : Turns out if the sensors are constantly looking to adjust brightness it takes up more battery. I set my brightness at around 60% and it works just fine throughout the day.
6. Use wifi over 3G/4G/LTE if possible
7. Switch off wifi when using Data: Android doesnt switch off your WiFi when you use data because Google wants you to use it for Locations and help build their database of networks.Switch off WiFi completely when using data to save a good chunk of battery.
8. Turn off Vibration on touch : Typing uses quite a bit of battery over the course of a day. Try switching Vibration on touch off.
9. Use Franco Kernel: : This will require rooting your device however it makes it a lot more power efficient.
10. Turn down the Facebook refresh rate : Make sure it updates not very often( every 3-4 hours) or never. IMO your phone is better off without Facebook or any other battery hog social networking apps.
11. Greenify: Works with and without root. Use Greenify to hibernate apps when they should not be running in the background. This is best used for games that fetch information about deals or daily events (i.e. Battle Nations or Real Racing 3)
Feel free to add anything to my list.

4, 6, and 7.. it would all depend on your signal quality. i get MUCH better battery life on lte than on wifi. and i mean much! i get 5-6 hour screen on time without doing anything special. on wifi i get an hour to hour and a half less. so the wifi thing is just in your situation, and not for everyone.
9.. there are better kernels than franco kernel. and on top of that, kernels have so little influence on battery life. battery life is mostly about your personal use, your personal setup, your choice of apps used, and very much on the quality of your phone/data connection. everything else has very little influence, including kernels.
3. This I agree. I've had super strange battery drain if I don't restart the phone once in a few days. I refuse to believe its a bad app as there are no wakelocks, seems to be more of a phone idle battery drain or radio drain.
4. To be honest, it depends on the WiFi network. Some WiFi networks (typically at universities) have a strange and outright horrible battery drain the moment you connect to their network and leave the screen off.
6. Again to not repeat what I said earlier, I get better battery life if I connect to LTE instead of my school's WiFi. Download speeds over LTE are 2-5x greater than my school's WiFi, so race to idle may be happening here.
7. Most android phones today have minimal battery drain with WiFi left turned on. But it doesn't hurt turning WiFi off if there are many weak known WiFi networks around you.
8. Not sure how much you'll save, I don't even recall much of an increase of battery with this off. YMMV situation I suppose.
9. I've had better battery life with other kernels. Again it's a YMMV situation.
Not a bad guide really
Another tip is that if Google Play services keeps your phone awake for a long time, revert Google Search to an older version, reboot the phone. The wakelocks should be drastically reduced.

Using Nexus 5 with:
CyanogenMod Nightlies
ElementalX kernel
1d 2h 9ms on battery / 2h 17ms screen-on time / with 38% remaining!
Good information! ?
Only thing I'd say is to just remove the part about kernel completely. As said above, kernel makes little difference. I get 24 plus hours and 6 hours screen time on any ROM or kernel. It's all setup and usage.
Nothing new here. Good for noobs, but most will have done this already
I have found that turning location off completely has helped my battery life tremendously. While I was barely able to make it through the day before, now I can easily pass by with 40% or something and light usage. I've tried other things but nothing has improved my battery life as much as turning location off.

Yup! That's what toggles are for. Need it? 2 clicks and its on. That's always my advice.

An exercise in battery longevity.

Hello everyone, im here to share my future experiences with seeing just how far i can push my battery and share how i did it with everyone.
Backstory:
I'm going hiking in Virginia tomorrow for a week, and would really like to have a camera without carrying extra devices, so..... its time to mod my nexus 5 as low power as possible!
here are some of the "prep steps" that ive done in order to obtain my battery life, i'll update the thread to let everyone know how it worked out!
Rooted
CM stable installed. (up to date as of this post)
Screen Brightness set to low as possibe.
Elemental X Kernel installed (Using TricksterMOD, these are my settings)
Multicore power saving = 2
CPU Freq. Lock= Min( 652800) Max( 652800) Max.screen off(300mhz)
Google Now/voice anything turned off
Home screen has only one page
Airplane Mode
Greenify Installed, Using Xposed Module for advanced/better control
Hibernating almost everything 3rd party, esp things like Facebook,KiK etc.)
BootManager xposed module installed, everything disabled that isn't needed.
Installed gsam for more meaningful data logging.
Unchecked Auto Sync Data in the Data Usage settings
Changed CPU clock min/max 652800
Installed Deep sleep battery saver Xposed module. (on slumber profile) buts phone into deep sleep when screen is off.
If i remember anything else i did on here, i'll post it.
(sorry its taking so long for replies/updates, "new user status" prevents my posts 5 minutes in between.) (hard to believe, been a member since 2011, just lurked alot.)
*May have found lower limit on the CPU, no instability as of yet, however phone is acting a bit erratic, looking into this currently. (booting takes FOREVER. this is a problem.)
*Trickster seems to pick and choose sometimes whether it wants to listen to me, sometimes CPU freq. on sreen off is changing to 652800 on its own. :/ anyone know of a way to get it to respect my settings?
*Changed CPU freq. to min max 652800 based on advice of the community.
Usage scenario:
I'll be using my phone mainly for pictures throughout the trip and possibly listening to some music, anytime its not in use, ill be turning it outright off, however, id really like to see just how far i can take this.
Anyone have any other suggestions for longevity?

Don't forget Google Now and Auto Syncs. (uncheck Auto Sync Data in the Data Usage settings).
Check out this thread here for some more suggestions.
I've been able to push it pretty far even with an active internet connection, though most of the usage comes from reading Reddit or forums with Tapatalk. That was on stock with no root access.
It's possible that it will take less power to just put your phone to sleep when not using than booting it up every time you need it. Depends on how often you boot though.

I was thinking that as well, however it would be difficult to find that "mid point" if i had an emergency backup of battery bank to test this theory, i would. However, im going to be stuck in the mountains and would rather have the ability to take the pictures i want rather then pure data log expedition. Great insight/hivemind though.

Based off my experiments, it takes less than 1% of battery to reboot the phone though I would guess somewhere in the 0.5% range. In airplane mode with all of these functions disabled and in deep sleep, 1% would probably get you 6 hours of idle time or even more. Therefore I would only power it down if you won't be using the phone for at least the next 6 hours. Rough estimations of course, I think either way it would be pretty similar.
If the phone is not powered down you might be inclined to use more than you would otherwise.

Extremely interesting/relevant! do you still have any screenshots or data logs on these restarts anymore?? if thats the case, then yes, id only turn it off while im sleeping then!

Unfortunately I do not, just speculation based off what I've seen when monitoring current draw (using Current Widget) and the battery percentage before and after a reboot.
I do have shots demonstrating low idle drain with Auto Syncs and Locations disabled. On average I'd say my drop is about 1% over 5 hours of deep sleep, but it's always hard to tell because there's no way for me to know exactly when it drops without active logging which would interfere with the phone's deep sleep.
Generally speaking a reboot uses ~1% of your battery. If you're locking your CPU to run at only 300mhz I would just leave it on the entire time. Especially if mobile data is off and so is WiFi. Make sure you go into Settings > WiFi > *Touch the 3-dot menu* > Advanced > Disable "Scanning Always Available". I lose about 1-2% in airplane mode overnight over clocked with high quality sound driver from Viper4Android. Plus the Google now hotword activated everywhere but lock screen.
A while back I did a test with my N5 to purposely nerf its power to see how long of a SoT I could get with it. I did pretty much everything you mentioned in the OP. Locked max CPU frequency to match min. Lowest screen brightness, airplane mode, etc. I was able to get over 12 hours SoT. So if the N5 can get 12 hours with the screen on using the same setup you plan in using with the phone getting nice and warm... I don't think a week standby time is too farfetched as long as it's idle most of the time except for pictures. Depends on how much music you listen to I guess. Only problem is even with music saved on the device itself, running at 300mhz you're going to run into skips and pops. Especially when the screen is off. Music playback will be kinda iffy.
Good luck though and let us know how it goes.
Edit: Actually I was mistaken. I just disabled everything like location, sync, etc. Default kernel parameters except switching to ondemandplus governor. This was on an older release of Uber kernel. 12+ hours SoT with ~30% battery remaining!

You'll suffer Lag I would think with CPU at 300mhz max. And likely use more battery than your saving with the phone struggling to process anything.
May have instability issues too. I'd rethink that.

I agree, but I think that if the phone isn't used at all besides some pictures here and there, it should be fine. If he plans on music playback he's going to have to raise the max frequency, no question. Music playback won't work reliably that low. I don't think lag will be an issue for him considering what's he's trying to accomplish with the phone, but I can't speak to instabilities with 300mhz as max as I've never tried it.

Currently Using Apollo music player, can confirm Zero issues using music playback, confirmed CPU freq. using cpu frequency app. most of these things are using hardware decoders

But if the phone is sleeping soundly as it should.... The max CPU is irrelevant if not being used. The lag and strain to run processes may hurt a lot though.
You let the music play while the screen was off for a few minutes or did you just play it for a few seconds? I have music stutter on screen off with frequencies higher than 300mhz. I get it with 729mhz. If it doesn't happen to you, awesome. Not sure why though. Do you have time to purchase an OTG charger? Might be worth looking into and they aren't that expensive.

Currently listening with screen off/on full songs. No issues. no time to purchase an OTG charger however :/

It can be done

I seem to remember a thread somewhere on xda regarding a CPU's "race to finish". Basically a cpu will work as much as it can (or better said "is allowed) to finish each task after which go to a low power state, like a marathon runner accelerates on certain portions and then "coasts" to conserve energy or a a car running on a near empty gas stank. Since you have a couple of days left I would try raising the frequency (600,800 and 1000) and see what happens to the power drained. It would definitely help with usability, as well as enable using photosphere or panorama ( which take quite a few seconds even at full speed to process) if needed. If the power drain would increase by less than 10% I would call that an acceptable trade-off.
While there is nothing wrong with finding the limit of your device, I think that an external battery pack would be a much better solution. There are ones available for less than $20 that could fully charge your device twice,

I remembered a discussion along those lines, ill bump the freq. to 652800 min max, and update the main post. An external pack would be great, but i unfortunately just don't have the cash at the moment. between the trip and i just ordered a triple monitor stand and a new wifi usb to play with nethunter
