sms sync w/ iphone? - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 Themes and Apps

I bought 10.1 tab pro for my mom who also has an iphone. There's gotta be an app like mighty text that works with iOS.
Any recommendations that are very simple. She's old, and doing anything more complex then installing an app will cause problems.
Thanks!

Jealous of iPhone Users...

So I just recently got my Fascinate, since I refuse to switch to AT&T... And the app market is great and all, but it seems a bit lacking.
All my friends with iPhones are playing **** like Katamari, Wordle, Robo Rush, FASTAR... And all the productivity apps seem to be so damn polished on the iPhone. I feel like I'm kinda missing out.
What can I do with my phone, or what apps can I get, to fill that void?
(Alternatively, we could just make this a "must-have Android apps" thread)
just depend on what you are looking for. there are some great apps that are out there you just have to look, look, and look some more. if you are new to android i suggest first downloading launcher pro, then homeswitcher to switch to launcher pro as its much faster. explore the endless customization options and apps and widgets and once you figure it out your friends will be on a iPhone forums saying "kinda jealous of android" trust me i *was* a ong time iOS lover and would NEVER EVER go back. **** Jeve Stobs and his gay ass black turtle neck. LOL JK.
Just get an iPod touch... No need for an iPhone man.
As an exiphone user I agree... but you also have to look at the fact that the iPhone has been around and more widly used the the Droid. Give it a bit more time and I bet the makert place will have a bigger selection. Droid is opensource which means a lot more room to make more custom content. IMO

+1 if you use it strictly for games you won't drain your phone battery. I didn't realize until yesterday how much ios sucks compared to android. To me ios is too plain and kinda old looking if that makes sense?

I agree. I'm on AT&T w/ the HTC Aria. Had an iphone 3g, sold it and got an android. Never looking back at iphone. I do have ipod touch which I wifi tether to my aria just for games and podcasts. But its being used less and less since android is getting better and better!
try appbrain. it helps to sort the trash from the clusterf*ck android market

Another Gir! Sweet!
And x2 on the appbrain comment. Now you can sort by popularity, rating, etc. It is everything the market should be.

What app are you doing to install first on your Nexus S?

After waiting outside the Best Buy in blistering cold weather, I finally got my hands on Google Nexus S. This is my first Android phone and i am pretty excited about it.
Well, I wanted to see what some of your favorite apps were so i can get some exposure since i am kind of new to it.
Thanks.
launcherpro.
the dark colors (of 2.3) + launcherpro (for simple home screens) = perfection on stock andriod.
All of them all at once.
Wireless Sync FTW, started downloading all my apps after activation!
Freaking love Android, if this was an iphone i woulda needed itunes
Mine didn't restore :/.
Either way, quake3droid!
Astro File Manager so you can manage your onboard storage.
notepad, because I need it to setup wifi as the setting is on the text file.
First android phone
Got my first android phone from states. On it's way to my via DHL.

I just got at 8 :10am..it was so cold man! !!
So know my old HD2 sleeping on the shelf
First AppMonster + Titanium Backup.
Then AppBrain, KeePassDroid, Handcent SMS, AdFree, ClockSync, Tasker and Barcode Scanner.
Possibly LauncherPro, I don't know yet. I haven't tried the stock launcher yet, but LauncherPro is certainly miles ahead of TouchWiz on my current phone

In that order only because LauncherPro wasn't showing on the marketplace for me for some reason, so I had to download the apk off his website.

[Q] Tablet friendly IM App?

One week for today I'll be getting my gTab and I am new to Android in general. Are there any IM clients that play well with the gTab?
Scott
Honestly... I have yet to find an IM app that doesn't play well. I should also state: that is if you're looking to chat only. Getting into video is a whole other can of worms.

Just straight up IM, no need for video at the moment. New to android so I don't know the popular IM apps at the moment, should probably just search the market and see what is well rated.
Scott
For chat they all seem to work well.
I like imo.im the most.
It just looks better to me,
Its one of the newer im apps.

Personally i use ebuddy which incorporates all my gmail accounts yahoo accounts facebook chat accounts and etc.
I forgot about ebuddy. I tried it before when I was running stock with enhancement pack and it wouldn't work for me. Now im on tnt lite 4.2 and haven't tried it again.
I went with Trillian; I'd been using the PC version for ages, and love the elegance of what they have on Android. YMMV.
I just use google voice. Click on your contact's cell phone number (the smiley face to the right) and text away. You have to set up google voice once and you are good to go. Do a search on this forum for the thread on this topic

i've tried ebuddy, im+ and a few others and Trillian seems to offer the cleanest UI in my opinion.

GoSms pro (its free, dont let the pro fool you). It can be setup to mimick the iphone ui (bubbles) or set up to mimick the stock sms ui (list). But my favorite feature is that it has an option to stay locked in memory so that it opens instantly when you need it. That feature to me is what seperates it from the rest of the sms apps out there.

I like GoSMS as well but am unfamiliar with that feature. I've just browsed through all the settings and didn't see it. Where's it and and whats it called?
EDIT: so I found an option that allows it to "run persistently" which is probably what your talking about. Mine's always been enabled and it still takes a second to launch every time I use it. I guess it would take longer if it was disabled. Having said that I used Handcent for a while and it was 10x faster, just uglier and didn't have an option to disable native SMS notifications so I was getting double notification even if I went and turned off notification in the native SMS app. I can handle a second delay when opening Go over the drawbacks of Handcent.
Ok looks like I have a few options to look at. Now to get my mind to want to keep the droid over the iPhone. I'm finding it a bit strange to get used to

I came from an iPhone as well. Give it a few days, or weeks. It takes a bit to get used to the Android but when you do there are things I wouldn't trade for the world.

Such as?
I just have gotten so used to the feel of my iPhone over the last 3 years. I'm thinking I'll give it a week or so as I have 30 to return it. Just seems clumsy the way things are set up. I don't have a dock for more than 4 apps, it doesn't open to an apps screen, I have to scroll for them. Finally figured out how to turn off the key pd vibrate thing. That was annoying me to death.
You might want to give ADW launcher a try. It has a dock feature aswell as a page style app menu. Where you can slide the page of apps left to right. YouTube should have a demo of it in action. Its a very personalizable Launcher. You can even get a apple theme for it.

Thats one of the great things about android, you can make it look and function however you want. Youre not stuck with the the way the phone comes. I cant stand the stock lg launcher either but there are tons of replacements out there.

Messenger : Samsung vs Android Messenger?

Any particular preference here. Only difference I see is that Samsung's allows videos to play in preview form.
(btw neither will play videos in original form beyond :10sec...which I knew but it's the same if using YouTube or Google Links.
Sucks
Ive been using Textra for the past year or so. I did try Samsung's for a little bit when I first got the phone but ended up going back to Textra. The stock Android one is pretty terrible, IMO.

There are two different ones?

I really like Message+ from Verizon. It's in the Play store for free.

I like the interface, the customizability, and the fact that it doesn't break long messages up. There's probably a slew of others that I'm not aware of too.

Textra is amazing. +1
Next sms....best popup in the business. IMHO.
Between the two, I prefer Android. Admittedly, it's mostly because I can send more pictures per message. I send a ton of messages to my parents of my kids, etc. It also works better (imho) with Google Assistant.

Why do you say that? The only thing I see that separates VZW messages + is it works/syncs with your other VZW devices. I used it for a while with my tablets and watches. Also it was one of the very few apps that allowed scheduling texts. But also one of the few that didn't allow blocking texts. I don't use it anymore. Dumped it for Sammy messages app. I really enjoy the Bixby integration.

I think it also does things like suggest emojis for predictive text, if you want to be one of the kewl kids. I thought it was sort of interesting at first, but at my age the kids would just roll their eyes

I say this because I like it better than Samsung's offering. I don't care about blocking texts, as I don't find myself in the need for something that does that. I've also found that it works a lot more quickly on my Note 4. I always had a bit of lag with the Samsung messenger.
And I do love the integration with other devices. I have it installed on all of my computers, tablets, etc. It works well on any device.

Personally i use Samsung. I use digits, and with the built in integration between dialer, digits, rcs, and their app moving away and using something else breaks how well it works for me.

So Textra users...
when you press the + only emojis are visible unless in horizontal mode Anyone know of any fix for that?
cause otherwise i like the app
