Display broken, need ideas for the way ahead - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I had purchased the Moto Turbo (Indian Version XT 1225) for ~USD 650. Recently, in a minor accident it broke. Ouch
>> Visible damage: Top glass seems fine, but the display underneath is cracked, no longer functional (We do not have the free one time screen replacement option that Verizon gives. Plus I did not have any other insurance).
>> Possible invisible damages: Right after the accident, the phone became pretty hot, and it was vibrating every 15 odd seconds for about an hour or so (till it ran out of battery, perhaps). I don't know if the internals suffered from any shock or heat damages.
The authorised service center says the Display unit replacement will cost ~USD 280. Any other possible, though unlikely, damages to the battery/motherboard can be determined only after the display is replaced. I have not been able to find out if display units for the Turbo are available for cheaper from third parties in India, any idea about that?
Now my dilemma. Do I go for the screen replacement for a very expensive ~USD 280. Or do I go in for a cheaper handset. I really liked my Turbo, more than what we have on the market right now, the only two gripes being the camera quality compared to it's peers and the doubtful upgrade to Android M. But it has not had a price reduction, and in the current mobile market, shelling out ~USD 650 for it seems too much.
Thoughts?

I think it's worth fixing.
I broke mine, got the LG G4, got fed up with the LG UI, overheating, lag, bad signal and crap battery so I just sold it and bought brand new Droid Turbo. I'm waiting for it to be shipped since I live in Spain and I had to get it of eBay .
Nothing better on the market atm..

I too am from India and I too broke my turbo screen but fortunately only glass is broken and phone is still usable.
I've not yet looked outside service centre as my phone should be under warranty but also don't want to spend so much just for broken glass. There is no separate glass but need to go for complete screen. I'm going to try local market once I get time to see what are other options before I go to service centre.

[Q] Broken Display - Can it be replaced?

Hi all,
2 months ago my o2x was unfortunately dropped, resulting in broken display. The phone was on warranty but expanses refuses to fix it for free, siting 'out of warranty reason: display broken'. They are charging me 105 euros for the display, plus shipping and taxes, summing up to 135 Euros. Ive seen that there are many OEM displays for o2x on ebay, for only 20-30 dollars. So what id like to ask is..
A) Are these display of the same (high) quality as the original display of the o2x? Are they the same display?
B) Is replacement something that can be done easily? I have experience on soldering etc, but never with something so fragile and small.
Thanx for all replies
One of our users in indonesia had a broken screen. His kid toyed with it. He went to lg service center and replaced it for ~$600.
He was still under warranty. I have no idea.
The screen was of the same quality.
I dont know about doing it yourself.

You mean 600 US dollars??
Sometimes some eBay sellers sells parts they dismantle from the original o2x phone. If the seller manages to sell all the parts, the profit is alot more than the cost of buying the phone itself. And since o2x is not really a famous phone like sgs2, I don't think China will bother making knock off parts since there are less demands, so there's a good chance those replacement screen are original IPS screens.

Faulty aftermarket digitizers

Hey guys. I have an HTC vivid. I dropped it and the screen cracked, but the phone worked perfectly (LCD is perfect). To fix it, I first bought a replacement digitizer from gounlock.com (SST Trading). This part had a dead zone, basically a horizonal bar 1/3 up from the bottom of the screen. I took the phone apart repeatedly and I'm 100% sure everything was installed correctly. I never contacted the company about the replacement since so much time had passed by when I finally installed the part. Next, I found people who had ordered from repairuniverse.com with good stories, so I ordered the digitizer from them. Instead of risking it, I paid a local repair shop to do the install, and there was zero response from the touch screen, even though it boots correctly. The shop reinstalled the part 3 times, still nothing. The seller gave me some line how the professional installer damaged the ribbon cable and I should order another part. To me, this is a bs excuse, because I've found plenty of threads about cheapo ebay digitizers not working or partially working in various HTC phones. They told me they test their parts, but im sure this doesn't involve actually installing on a real phone to make sure it actually works/is designed correctly, just that it might not have a manufacturing defect.
So, where can I order this part and not have problems? Unfortunately I don't have the original screen anymore to compare part numbers, although these things all seem to be low quality china knock-offs, hence why they frequently don't work.
Thanks for whatever advice you can give me =) It's been a very frustrating experience dumping money into this old phone to fix a relatively simple problem.
well, I probably threw more money down the drain ordering a third digitizer. At least this one only costs 10 bucks. If this one doesn't work I'm just going to sell the phone on ebay and someone else can try to fix it.

Samsung service center is the worst

I originally had to repair my screen called Samsung was quoted $199 and I also mentioned to the rep the erratic battery. Rep specifically told me that it would be covered and the tablet would be warrantied afterwards. I get the tablet back I see sot was 15 minutes and the battery was at 74% as soon as I saw that I knew it was still screwed. The battery seemed to work better but when it gets less than 50% it will jump several bars at a time and lose life within seconds. I call to tell them the rep says they don't cover the $199 only covered the screen. I said if that's the case why did they change the data cable she says they were probably just being nice throwing me a freebie at that point I just hung up the phone. Now I have a tab S I've put a total of $569 that only gets 3-4 sot.
Moto X 2014
I had ordered a battery before hand so I just changed it out. We'll see how that goes
Moto X 2014
sent mine in for screen repair, it came back damaged, the tech damaged the bezel while removing the old screen, and the original problem has come back. Now they say they are going to replace the glass, screen, frame and the mother board, but refused to send me a new tablet! what a joke. I love my sammy products but absolutely hate their service center!

Check if screen is original

Hi,
Last week I bought a new Sony Z3 compact, and I'm having some difficulties with the touchscreen. I'm experiencing some of the sensitivity / bouncing problems I saw in the forum earlier. It's making typing sometimes very difficult.
The build date of the phone (which came with no accessorizes like headphones or something, only a charger, something strange as well) is: week 35 of 2014. Rather old for a new device. I'm wondering if my device is completely new and it's not just a repaired phone with a repaired screen. Is it possible to check whether the screen is original?
The reason I went to the shop was that they're willing to buy my old iPhone which I got temporarily, because my Nexus 5 was broken. I hated the iPhone and they gave me a good deal for the Z3C. But I hope that I bought a new phone and not just a repaired one with a cheap display....
The headset itself doesn't have a single scratch, it looks completely shiney btw
It's possible that they gave you a refurbished device true, but if I'm correct those devices or any sold by any store 'must' be repaired with OEM parts, so it's highly unlikely that they used 'cheap' parts to repair it. You could check to see if the phone is still waterproof by doing the pressure test or putting the in water.
Even phones with OEM parts had the same problem that you described.
If you're not satisfied I'd suggest to go back to the store.
P. S. There is no way to check whether the screen is original or not.

Hi Dsteppa,
Thanks for your quick reply. The pressure test seems fine, so I'm guessing the phone is still water proof. Perhaps an update to Lollipop will fix it. Maybe I'll go to another shop first and compare the two screens before returning my device if Lollipop won't help.

My wife's z3 compact top half of screen touch problem

All
I bought my wife this lovely phone in November last year. Within a week she cracked the back glass. So i bought her a new case for it. In the last month she's managed to crack the front but only the bottom right. Everything has been working but as of a few days ago the top half of the phone is unresponsive to touch. Which basically makes the phone a nightmare to use. I've search the web and one guy had the same problem on you tube but didn't mention a way of fixing it. Any one else had this problem and knows a way to fix it?
Any help would be great.
Cheers

You might want to see this thread. If your wife was sure she didn't crack it by dropping it or something else, then you may be able to return her phone to Sony for warranty and get it fixed.
If it was her fault, well, you need to send it to Sony and pay for the damages/repairs, go to a local store (or online if you want) and have someone fix the screen, or order a screen online and fix it yourself if you so wish.
Either way the phone is out of commission until you get it fixed. Go back to the store she bought it from and ask if they can do a warranty repair.
The best indicator on if the phone is viable for warranty is to look at the cracks - if it's one line, it was a manufacturer defect. If it branches out into multiple cracks (known as a spider web crack') you most likely wont get warranty repairs for it.
There's nothing you can really do otherwise. I had this same issue on my Xperia Z, it was either pay 250$ for a repair or buy a new one... I just bought the Z3C to upgrade.
There's no magical application that will fix your screen's responsiveness since it sounds like she damaged the touchscreen.
