You don't need any of the tools you mentioned to root the m7. If the bootloader is unlocked just flash TWRP recovery with fastboot. Load into recovery then Reboot system. TWRP will then give you the option to root. Select yes.
Once it reboots launch the SuperSU app from your app draw to check binaries are upto date.
If binaries need updating again you will be prompted to select one of 2 options. Either should work fine but TWRP method is recommended.
That's it. Twrp can handle the entire rooting process for you

Ok well first of all you need an sdk on your pc. This is the software that allows you to manually flash things to your handset. Download one suitable for your pc os at the below link. And install it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
This will give you 2 command line protocol's "adb" and "fastboot"
Adb for use in recovery mode and while booted to Android (with usb debbugging enabled)
And fastboot for use only in the bootloader.
Once that's installed you can use fastboot to flash a custom recovery which can be used to root your stock Rom or flash custom roms as well as a whole host of other stuff.
Get the sdk setup boot the device to the bootloader and connect your usb cable and make sure the phone is in fastboot usb mode.
You should see and option for fastboot in the bootloader. If not but it says fastboot usb in red it's already in fastboot usb mode. Start your ask which will open a command window. And type this command
Code:
fastboot getvar all
This will give you a list of version information about your device. Which will show me which variant of m7 you have. We need to know this so you can know which files (Roms, Recovery) are safe for you to flash
Copy and paste it to a post here but edit out the IMEI an Serial Number before posting. Those 2 numbers should be kept private for security.

next thing you need to do is flash TWRP Recovery.
Downloads here http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
Download TWRP 2.8.5.0 And put the image file in your fastboot folder.
Connect fastboot usb in the bootloader the same as when you did the getvar all. Then flash it with fastboot
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.5.0-m7.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
After it reboots select recovery from the bootloader menu and it will load TWRP. Then from the twrp menu choose Backup. And make a backup. Then reboot the device from twrp. You will get a notification asking if you want to install root. Select yes. The phone will reboot and will be rooted :good:

If you have used the link above to install adb and fastboot (minimal adb and fastboot) then your fastboot folder is the installation folder of "minimal adb and fastboot" most likely C:/programs/minimal adb and fastboot/save_your_recovery_here

I put the img in that folder..connected to usb started bootloader.flashed with those code ,rebooted then i selected recovery and loaded TWRP.i did choose backup and made a backup.after 100% backup it showed reboot below..i pressed on it and phone reboots...it never asked for installing root
Wot did i miss? Whole of process was done connecting usb.that really make the problem?

Boot in recovery again and from the main menu select "reboot" then "reboot to system" it should ask you for root, not sure if it should ask for root when rebooting from the backup menu. If it still doesn't work I'll explain you how to flash the required files.

It's possible that one of your previous attempts has left something on the device which make TWRP belive the device is rooted already.
Check in your app drawer. Do you have a super user or SuperSU app in there?

From twrp, not from fastboot.
Boot in twrp recovery, from the main menu select the "reboot" menu then reboot to system.
edit: like in the pictures posted above by danny :good:
If it doesn't work, download and save supersu2.46 at the root of your phone storage, reboot in twrp recovery. Select the "install" menu and then browse your phone storage to find supersu2.46.zip. select it and swipe the bottom slider to confirm you want to flash this file. Then reboot to the system and your phone is rooted.

So if there's no app and you don't get the notification. Use TWRP to install the supersu app from @alrays post. Just copy the zip to you phone storage then install it with the "Install" option in Twrp.
It does seem that Towel root or one of the other tools you tried has done something that is interfering with it. But flashing the zip manually should do the job :good:

Alternatively you could do a factory reset in Twrp. That will reset your system partition and then rebooting from twrp should give you the notification. Warning!!! If you try this DO NOT use "Format Data" this is not the same as Factory Reset it will wipe everything off your phone. It's a common mistake just wanted to warn you of it

What happened here is that you have used a reset rom that doesn't match your firmware version.
Your firmware version is 6.09.401.5 and you have used a reset rom version 3.62.401.1 hence why something went wrong when you have attempted to install the ota update.
Now to fix it you'll need to flash twrp recovery 2.6.3.3
push the 6.09.401.5 rom to your phone internal storage
install the rom
flash the 6.09.401.5 stock recovery
so we'll go step by step, this will be easier for you I think.
So download twrp 2.6.3.3 from here.
Save it at the same place where "minimal adb and fastboot" is installed on your computer. Should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
make sure your phone is booted in bootloader / fastboot usb mode
start "minimal adb and fastboot" (start --> Programs --> Minmal adb and fasboot --> minimal adb and fastboot)
type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then in bootloader, select "recovery" to boot in twrp recovery.
Reply when these steps are done.

in twrp select "wipe" then "format data"
when format data is done, reboot the recovery. You can reboot the recovery using this command:
Code:
adb reboot recovery
or by holding power and vol down and select "recovery" from the bootloader menu
Download this rom (this is the stock rom for your version) like the recovery, save it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
When the download is completed and with your phone booted in twrp main menu, type this command:
Code:
adb push One_6.09.401.5_odexed.zip /sdcard
this will transfer the stock rom to your internal storage. Your command prompt will be unresponsive for a few minutes (5-10 min). When you'll see a message in the command prompt saying "X KB/s (Y bytes in Z seconds)", this mean your rom was successfully transferred to your internal storage.
in twrp main menu, select "install" and browse your phone storage to find "One_6.09.401.5_odexed.zip" then swipe to flash the rom.
Data Format Complete
E:Unable to mount '/cache'
is everything all right?
and u said
adb push One_6.09.401.5_odexed.zip /sdcard
but HTC doesnt have a sdcard, but i shouldnt be worried about that since its just a name for a folder?

exactly, your internal storage is an emulated sdcard not a real sdcard. /sdcard is linked to /data/media/0 so when you push a file to /sdcard it will in reality push it to /data/media/0.

But from experience from today when i tought i lost my phone already im not sure if i will root it again

Your issue wasn't caused by root privileges, it was caused by a software/firmware mismatch. You shouldn't have any issue like this one because you have rooted. Anyway you can always use twrp to make a backup of your phone before modding it so if something goes wrong, you just have to restore the backup using twrp and your phone will be back in the same state it was before.

Right click the recovery image, click on rename. Name it recovery for simplicity. Put it in the folder where fastboot, adb etc. is.
Open cmd, direct it to your working folder. Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img Not recovery .img.img
What next?

It seems you are still typing the wrong thing. Type in:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Just copy/paste the above code in your command prompt.
That is just to get the custom recovery TWRP on your phone.
Next download the SuperSU app and you will see a # symbol in your notifications to let you know you need to download the su binaries.
Choose the TWRP option and it will reboot the phone to TWRP recovery.
It may restart after it is done or you will have to press Back and choose Reboot then System. I just did this and I received an error in TWRP. I simply rebooted and SuperSU is working perfect and I have root access.

No, that will just reboot back into fastboot mode.
You have two options:
1. Press the Power button from that screen you just mentioned and click on the RECOVERY option
2. When you are in the OS type in the code below
Code:
adb reboot recovery

I've seen that before. It usually means you have more than one adb.exe or it could really just be out of date. HTC Sync Manager and WinDroid both come with their own adb. I got rid of those two and the problem went away.
Type in the command prompt, in the same folder as adb.exe
Code:
adb version
The newest one is 1.0.32, just to rule out you don't have an older version.

Are you sure it is 4.4.3 or are you referring to an error message? Our phone should be 4.4.2. Even though one of the custom ROMs says 4.4.4.

Now should it be rooted or is there another step i have to do? I just did root checker and it said that the root has been installed correctly
Thank you all. You have been a great help and i am hugely beyond belief grateful. The root has worked.

Unlike some other HTC devices, the M7 does not requires to flash the boot.img separately after flashing a rom. Boot partition is not secured and is flashed automatically when flashing a rom from custom recovery. OP has formatted data partition which mean he have no OS (no rom) installed. So flashing the kernel (boot.img) will not solve his problem.

1) Your twrp version is outdated. Download twrp 2.8.6.0 for M7 and flash it:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
2) Boot your device in twrp main menu, with the 2.8.6.0 version you'll be able to see your phone storage on your computer like if it was a usb drive. Drag and drop your rom.zip to your phone internal storage (My computer --> One --> Internal storage --> your_rom.zip here)
Then in twrp select "install" browse you phone storage and select "your_rom.zip" and swipe to bottom slider to install. Once done reboot your device and voila.
If you don't want to use a custom rom and you only want to use your stock rom and have root, you could simply flash the 7.19.401.102 ruu to get your OS back and then reflash latest TWRP (2.8.6.0) so you can root your stock rom. If this is what you want I can give you step by step instruction for this too, just ask if you need.

You should make sure you get a pristine backup at hand, or a RUU appropriate to your device. Otherwise you'll never be able toreturn to a full stock system.
On the U11 it is possible to boot TWRP from fastboot, without flashing it and thus without touching stock recovery. That way I've been able to flash Magisk what's coming with MagiskSU and the possibility to use some Modules. And all without altering the system or replacing stock recovery in the first place.

The guys method of using recovery to backup recovery will only work on Philz… Not twrp as it does not always backup stock recovery properly. The proper way to backup stock recovery is..
1. Root your phone, which can be done by towel root or by just booting a recovery like he said,
fastboot boot twrporwhatever.img, then flash supersu
2. Boot phone that has stock recovery
3. adb shell
4. su "watch your phone to grant root adb access if you haven't ever done it"
5. dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p43 of=/sdcard/recovery.img
6. This will put flashable recovery.img on your internal sd card. Copy this and save it for later
7. "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" will get you back to stock recovery, "fastboot flash recovery twrporwhatever.img" to flash custom recovery.

If possible and a TWRP recovery is available one should boot to bootloader and try if the command fastboot boot name_of_twrp.img works. Make sure to NOT grant r/w at first boot and leave it ro. Now you can perform a backup of stock recovery, boot and system image (not system partition!) to obtain a pristine backup.
All else will alter system partitions md5 and the backup won't be pristine any longer. Due to block based OTA policy introduced by Google you won't be able to OTA without a pristine system image.

[GUIDE] How to ROOT the HTC Desire 10 Pro

Hello Everybody !!
I'm not a developer but I successfully rooted my HTC Desire 10 Pro and since many people seem to have problems,I decided to make a guide. The computer OS I used was Windows 10 but if you use linux, I'm sure you can adapt to the method.
1. First install device drivers and download ADB fastboot from this thread
2. Dowload TWRP 3.1 for your phone variant from here and move it to the ADB fastboot folder and rename the img file to "twrp"
twrp-3.1.1-a56dj_pro_uhl.img Desire 10 Pro Single SIM
twrp-3.1.0-a56dj_pro_dugl.img Desire 10 Pro Dual SIM
3. Press shift + right click and select open command window here.
4. Go to developer options on your phone and select Allow USB debugging and Allow bootloader to be unlocked.
(Very important step)
5. Connect the phone to your PC and check the connection by typing the following in the command prompt.
adb devices
If it shows only one device, you're good to go!!
Otherwise remove any other connected phones/devices and disable any Android emulators if you have them. (Like Bluestacks)
6. Go to HTCDev website and unlock your bootloader, (HTCDev will give those instructions), the phone model isn't shown but select "other supported models".
(Warning - This will erase all your data so make a backup)
7. Type the following into the command window to boot your device into bootloader/fastboot mode:
adb reboot bootloader
8. Once your device boots into bootloader mode, type this into the command line.
fastboot flash recovery twrp
9. Once TWRP is successfully flashed on your device, type this final command to reboot your device.
fastboot reboot
10. Download SuperSu latest version
SuperSu v2.82
11. Copy the SuperSu zip file to your phone internal storage
12. Then type this command to go to TWRP,
fastboot reboot recovery
13. Wait for TWRP to load and tap Install
14. Select the SuperSu zip file and flash it
15. After flashing finishes, tap on Reboot System
16. Congradzz !!! Your HTC Desire 10 Pro is rooted now.
Now you can further customize if you like by installing Xposed.
Thanks for following and please reply in the comments if I have made any mistake or if you need more help.
And I'm NOT responsible for any damages even though it's unlikely to happen.
Edit : This was confirmed to be working on version 1.18.400.20 and it doesnt seem to work on 2.13.709.20. Please have a RUU if you're trying on a version in between, just to be on the safe side.

I think HTC disabled remote recovery booting so you'll have to replace the stock recovery.img
But I think I saw the stock recovery.img for our phone in another thread. You can download it and flash in case of a new update.
And what do u mean nougat firmware was reimplemented? Did you get the Nougat update ?

process failed
Hi everyone,
tried this process on a A56DJ_PRO_DUGL with system OS-2.13.709.20 and the last step (supersu 2.82) failed, it said unable to modify boot image and aborted.
Used magisk 15 and it was able to modify boot but it did not boot, always asked for password for encrypted data, even after factory reset. I tried to restore the backup I previously made with twrp 3.1.1.0 (boot + system) but now it does not boot. Download, bootloader and twrp works anyway.
I will try to fix it, hope it serves as guidance to anyone trying to root the same 10 Pro version.

I did try to uninstall magisk but it gets stuck in the boot process (only htc logo), the same thing happens with the backup I made with twrp (only htc logo), the best result so far is applying magisk to the boot, then the system starts but keeps asking me to decrypt the storage, the exact message is "The password you have entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt" I did factory reset but does not solve the problem, it keeps asking for the password.
Also RUU for my OS-2.13.709.20 is not available so I'm currently stuck.
These things get harder and harder every day
Desire 10 Pro recovered
Finally the last option was to fully stock flash with RUU 2.13.709.20, but now I am back to step one.
At least it works
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:08 PM ----------
Been human means to keep trying, so I tried again, now I did full factory wipe before applying supersu 2.82 (not working) or magisk 15 (works but keeps asking for a password to decrypt storage).
So I can confirm this procedure does not work with OS-2.1.3.709.20.
If any of you is able to root this version I will be glad to try again in the future but by now I'm done with htc 10 pro.
Happy new year everyone!

Credit to
@sabpprook and @jemmini for the TWRP variants
@Snoop05 for the ADB Fastboot Installer
@Chainfire for SuperSu
And all of XDA for being awesome

Hi!
Sorry for the delay, I havent checked my inbox for quite some time.
I searched around for this Sangam IME everywhere in,
/system/app
/system/priv-app
/data/app
/data/app-private
But I couldnt find it. I even tried using 3rd party apps like you suggested but it simply doesnt seem to exist.
Even a quick Google search didnt give me any leads.
So are you sure the name is correct ?
Or maybe any more ideas on where to look for the apk ?
Sorry I couldnt be of more help
