Applying theme changes dpi setting? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have an AT&T Galaxy Note 5. I was wondering if anyone has played around with the Theme Store. It seems after I applied some themes (Material Design, etc.), it reverted my dpi so that I see bigger home screen icons (the icons had been smaller). I immediately switched back to the Default theme, rebooted, etc. but the big icons stuck. I painfully wiped the cache partition and even factory reset the phone.... still bigger icons! Anyone else have a similar issue?

I don't have the phone, so I can't say I've had the issue, but have you tried checking if the actual DPI has changed? If it has, you can change it without root at the link below. I've used this method before and some samsung phones will have camera issues when changing the dpi. I believe the stock dpi is 560. Hope this helps.

I installed Material Dark and the DPI didn't change.

Thanks for the link to check. I'll do that and see what I get and report back.

Screenshots?

Likely a stupid question, but are you sure it didn't just reset the grid layout to the less dense grid?

Looks like it maintained the density. Guess my eyes just play tricks on me. Screen grid remained 5x5

Background now oversizing after using launcher pro

I installed launcher pro and it blew up my background size, now everytime i crop a new background it is like oversize past the screen boundaries so it looks like i used a much small image. I removed launcher pro and restarted the nc but it made no differnce.
I've also tried several different pictures and compared it too another instore nook. What could have changed to cause this? I have no issues modifying android but I don't know what could cause a screen image resize change.
same thing happened to me, removing launcherpro didn't fix it
I am also experiencing this after installing LauncherPro. I have not found a fix yet.
same here!
check my post under the General Discussion for the NC for a fix.
Well I'll be damned if i have to used an app to fix what already worked right. Theres something launcher pro changed. Someone has to have knowledge of this.
You can actually still use the stock settings app to set the wallpaper. I've found that ~600x920 gives me a good result with no stretching (puts the bottom of the image right above launcher pro's dock).
Set the wallpaper extents in landscape mode. That fixed it for me.
There's a nifty app that fixed this issue for me and now the wallpaper looks great (960 x 800). I know it's not native resolution, but it looks plenty HD to me
For reference, here's the wallpaper, it's like some sort of sidewalk drawing with the android logo on there http://www.talkandroid.com/wallpapers/image-android-abstracts-1573/
EDIT: Clicked Submit before telling you guys the app - it's called: Wallpaper Set and Save - do a quick google search for the APK and you should find it
Can someone find a real fix?
I have read all the posts on this. I uninstalled Launcher. If I follow the steps outlined my Nook Color does not change the wallpaper preview orientation if I hold it in Landscape mode. Actually since installing uninstalling launcher, my nook no longer rotates the orientation when I hold the Nook differently. Launcher just kind of made a mess of everything. I agree with the previous poster, why should we have to install an app or result to tricks (that don't work for me) when it all worked fine before launcher. Anyone know of a real fix for this? I even did a reinstall from a backup using Titanium... didn't fix it
Doesn't seem to be a Launcher Pro specific problem, just something with replacement launchers in general. I have had the same issue with Zeam. So far the only work around for me is using the 'landscape' trick which sometimes takes a few tries to get it to take. Wallpaper-set-and-save works kinda-sorta, it still cuts off the bottom of the image and 'zooms' a bit.
I have had good luck with creating proper size PNG wallpapers and setting those as recommended in the big thread on this.

[Q] Lowering DPI?

What are you doing exactly when you lower it, and what do you get from it?
I saw a few threads about it but they're all procedures and instructions.
It just makes things on the screen smaller. You can therefore fit more stuff on the screen, if you are using a launcher that allows adjustable row/column settings.
Beware however that TouchWiz looks pretty nasty on non stock settings. Also the dialler and other bits and pieces won't display correctly. You can however adjust it back again.
It is most useful to me where it can display much more in the same screen area. Some apps are not multidpi friendly and do not show correctly, eg the dailer and some games.

When you say "it just makes things on the screen smaller," is it the icons or other stuff onscreen getting smaller or the screen getting bigger? I'm using GoLauncher EX and I was wondering about that setting on custom rows/columns that goes up to 10. I was wondering how would that fit.

So also I guess that's why a lot of the "lower DPI"-related threads are about looking for compatible apps. Thanks!
Do many people tweak their DPI? Can you share examples of significant advantages of doing so that's worth the hassle of looking for apps/themes that would work on the adjusted DPI? Thanks again!

You're everywhere, nobnut! (Sorry for the off-topic)
Anyway, I hope soon everything will be smooth when changing dpi (maybe CM port or ICS). It's really useful for us with good sighting, I've been using my HD2 at 160 dpi instead of 240 and it's not only neater on the homescreen but very useful in some apps (and a less toyish aspect )
I suddenly want to switch to 240 DPI but the effort scares me.
Found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369162&page=2
I don't like how it doesn't work for some apps as of now, though I never heard of Samsung ever accommodating DPI changes? That's why I didn't learn of this from somewhere else before the forums. :O

Just try this app: https://market.android.com/details?...wxLDIxMiwiY29tLmlubm9kcm9pZC5kcGljaGFuZ2VyIl0.
It's easy as hell, you can try and then undo effortlessly. But I'm sticking to 320 until... until I try again 240

Everything is smaller. Everything.
Yes, Go Launcher looks good at a lower dpi once you have set the rows and columns. Shortcuts, texts, widgets etc will all display as smaller.
For example O at 320 might look like o at 240.
To edit, there are apps to use (if you are noob ). The best way is to open the build.prop file in the 'system' folder, find the line ro.sf.lcd_density=320 and change the 320 to your value... then reboot.
Just remember the default value is 320 if you want to return again.

Thanks for the link but I don't think that changing the DPI itself is any difficult. It's cleaning up the possible mess after, with changing the incompatible apps. I've heard some of them won't work right on different DPIs. Is there a thread for that around here?
Also, I read one about S-Memo not working nicely, and I use that app a LOT, so I guess I'll be monitoring what they do in that thread too.
I do like how it looks like though. Makes me feel the phone is even bigger.
At 240 (default DPI for 800x480) "all" (can't tell for sure) apps will work. Everything also looks good since, again, it's the default Android DPI and some UI elements will look like crap if you set it to 260 or so. Try out the app and see if you like it. If not just reboot the phone and it'll be back to normal.

Wait... Need some clarification about this... I've gotten some games in the market before and I uninstalled them because they didn't go full screen. They left like a fourth of the screen unoccupied and simply black. If I switched to 240, you think they would take the full screen?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
no. for example, live holdem pro looks the same crap on 320 and 240 too

That's not nice. Are there any workarounds for such apps? I thought DPI would be a solution.

Change DPI for the whole system

Hello
i ve got a note 3 with x transformer installed, this app changes the whole dpi of the screen so its displayed way smaller.
i like to have that app on my z1 too but i think that application is for note 3 only.
textdroider dpi app from the play store also changes the settings and it worked allthough it doesnt set new borders so the smaller content can fit the whole screen, its like the screen has the same size but zoomed out , so i cannot put apps on the whole destop and the menu and apps are displayed "small" and dont fit all the screen.
is there another possiblity to change dpi settings?
i found a guide tho where one can change a system file for density but i think that would do the same to the screen as the app did.
ty for your help

In every phone with android you should be able to change dpi in build.prop
download rom toolbox and you can change the dpi in build.prop section

Dialer keypad color issue with MM OTA?

Installed OTA yesterday. Anyone else not able to change dialer keypad from the mental hospital white? I would prefer a dark dialer keypad, which was available in Sense 6. The only option under personalize is default (white). Initially the same was true with the keyboard, but after changing themes in the new theme settings, I got other options for the keyboard that were part of those themes. Still only default for dialer keypad, and no theme change would change it either, so regardless of theme chosen I still only get white.
I looked around the forums and saw that some had the same problem with sense 7 ROMs running on M8 and M9. There was a workaround by uninstalling the dialer app, and then updating it or simply reverting back to sense 6 dialer, but I've no option to do that under the app (just force stop, no uninstall).
Kind of at a dead end in figuring it out. Don't care for the bloat of 3rd party dialer/phone/messaging apps, but might have to try one. I'm not into rooting or mods on my main communication device, and so this phone has never been anything but stock (except for apps available in the store, naturally). I did have Apex launcher as my app launcher at the time of OTA, but that should not have thrown a wrench into the update (at least I don't think it should have). My next step is to factory reset to see if that resolves it...which I'm not eager to do.
Any thoughts?
Use the themes app and download a new keyboard theme.
Not all themes come with keyboard recolouring...

Thanks for the reply. I tried that. None of the themes had any affect on the dialer keypad -- still just white --, even the ones that showed in the preview to do so. The keyboard was changeable with via applying themes.
Hmmmm, if it is a Sense 7 based Sense 6 ROM , it won't work, AFAIK the only official Sense 7 ROM is Stock Rooted, soon will also have Bad Boyz 4.0.
Try the stock rooted, then report back please!
I'm not running a ROM, I'm newly OTA updated with Marshmallow, so I'm stoock Sense 7. I guess I'm wondering if what I described (only white phone dialer keypad) is normal behavior for Sense 7. Like I said, I can't change the color of the phone dialer keypad from white, either in settings or themes. If this is correct behavior for stock sense 7, that's OK, and I'll explore other options by way of a phone app.
Again, thanks.
It doesn't seem like normal behavior, I'm on Stock rooted MM...that is literally just changing the theme for me.

Got it to work. Don't know what the problem is. Some themes that show a change to the dialer in the preview do change it when applied, some do not. Now to find a way to edit the theme and retain the change to the dialer.
Thanks for the help.
Same problem same solution. I've only got one theme that was actually able to change the dialer colour to black "darkside" but I hate everything else about it. Could you suggest any other

Question OneUI 4 (Release Version) Theming Not Working

Has anyone encountered an issue with OneUI theming after installing the official release?
I am unable to change my color palette. I had a custom theme installed (non-rooted) and it says I need to load the default theme. When I do so, nothing appears to happen and when I go to the theming section, the screen is blank and I just get the spinning animation.
The rom seems buggy to me
Every reboot dpi shift to wonky wonky large icons and text have to set again
Give it some time about your issue too

That’s actually the first thing I tried with the themes app no dice. Also, everytime I go check for themes on the Galaxy Store, I get an error message.
Something‘s off with this ROM. I guess I’ll wait. It’s not quite what I was expecting.
I have kind of a similar issue. I am able to change the color palette in settings > wallpaper and style.
However when creating my own theme in Theme Park, when I pick red for my main color and style, the Theme Park app crashes...
Your browser is not able to display this video.
Update: just went into ADB and re-installed the theme service, etc. Worked like a charm. All good now! Thanks everyone for weighing in.
