Pink screen issues? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Morning all,
I've recently sent back two S6s due to the pink screen tints. In the meantime moved over to a Z3, but keen to get into a Note 5 or S6+.
Just wondering if anyone had suffered from the dreaded pinking that can plague these AMOLED screens.

pictures of that pink screen tint that you are talking of ? since this thread seems likely to be ignored by many. I guess that the experts don't have any idea about the stuff.

It was only on the S6 I'm afraid. Not Note 5.

Screen colours.

I got my galaxy note when it's out early.
And I compared it with my friend's note when he just got it recently, and I realise that the colours of our screen is different when all the settings & rom is the same. Anyone knows why?

I don't know aye, if both screen is on white, mine is slightly more yellow. O.O
I think there are different screen color calibrations and gradiations on each Note.
you checked the settings under display->screen mode if they're the same also?

Little black pixels on the photo/sensor

So I just noticed that when I launch the camera I see a little black spot.. And it's visible on every photo in the same place.
It's not about the screen, the screen is clean without any defects.
It's also not about the camera glass.
What is it? Did anybody experience such a thing?!
Is it in sameplace when raking a photo in landscape and portrait?

It's a defect in the image sensor. I had the same thing on a Samdung device on the FFC.

No, it won't typically grow. It's usually a manufacturing defect.

In my case, the sensor had three of these dots. I've had the device for a couple of years and taken shots with it countless times. No changes noted. It's now my wife's phone. She doesn't even notice it, but it did piss me off when I noticed it.
The good news is it won't grow, and not that it helps you feel any better, but it's pretty easy to remove those type of dots in images if you need to.

If the dot is in the same place it could be software related if it changes positions a little it could be hardware sensor

I don't think so. The hardware doesn't change, so the image sensor defect (typically seen as black dots) will always be in the same place, regardless of orientation.
If it were software related, then software would change it, but it doesn't. In my case, though it was a Samdung device, I had the issue before and after all camera software and firmware updates.
Here's a thread on this topic about the Z specifically.

Yes true that. It doesn't change the location so it definitely looks like a hardware fault....

Im aware of that threat butt bearrrr with me for a minute and here me out...
What iff..you mesure out the dot from the side in portrait and then in landscape.....sience will tell you cause landscape is wider that the dot wil be in a different place because of the wideness off the picture...true? Thus its hardware matic fault in my opinion...if it stays in one spot my guess is it wil be a rendering malfunction......why im i saying this......
Im having 1 little dot in portrait but NON in landscape can someone explain me that please?
Sorry cant prove it by pictures because my phone ia in the shop for a screen replacement
Edit: would you mind trying to turn of be2 and hdr and auto mode,im curious if it helps in anyway

Permanent red tint on screen

Hey guys,
I started noticing bit of red tint on lower half of the screen.
I am aware viewing angle make difference, but no matter which orientation/angle I look from it is still there.
Anyone else having similar issue?
Also, if this is a defect, is this the kind that retailer usually replace for consumer?
It is giving me headache looking at the screen for a prolonged period even though the tint is not severe.
Sent from my SM-N910U using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Its very, very slight on mine. Nothing that would make me consider returning it though.
Also, screen tint shift based on angle is a lot more frequent than my s3 (i9300). I tilt note4 by even 5deg and I see colour shift already, but nothing like that on s3.
Can someone confirm this please.
Thank you.

Yes, my phone does this. However I've checked a lot of shop display units and have noticed many are better and some are worse than mine. The sad fact is that there seems to be a bit of a screen lottery going on and it's luck whether you get a good screen or a bad one.

So you reckon retail wouldnt replace it.

You can try it. If they have a display unit that is obviously better than your current one and they can see that. Problem is you might end up with a replacement that is just as bad or worse!

Thats been the case since the Galaxy Note 2, even my note 3 has a slight reddish tint on the top part of the screen.. most if not all the units ive seen either has a red tint or a more warmer color tone at a certain part of the screen. People have accepted this as a norm.

Yeah funny it is a norm for Note series when it is not for S series when both using same display technology

Agree. My old s5 was much better with colour shift and tinting. As are the new tab s tablets. I'm disappointed with the note 4 screen.
Have you tried setting the display to photo mode?
I am still wondering if we talk about the same phone, my Note 4 has no red tint and no color shift at all, no matter how much I turn the phone.
Also looking at a totally white/red/yellow picture, I can't find any part of the screen that is warmer. Some people also reported that greys look terrible, I can't comfirm that for my display.
Coming from the Nexus 5, this display looks so much better in all aspects, I am still stunned after using the phone for 3 days now.
There seems to be quite a disparity between phones. Some are good, some are bad. That tends to be why people are having different experiences.

It was the norm for the S series up until the S4 came out. The S4 was the first Samsung screen since the Note 2 that had a very nice and even screen.
S1, S2, S3, Note 1, Note 3 all suffer from poor screen uniformity. Guess you can add the Note 4 to that too.
This worries me as I'm planning on skipping the Note 4 for the Nexus 6. Samsung will already be giving Motorola last years Amoled tech, and stretched across the bigger screen the unevenness will be even more obvious.
Especially now that Android Lollipop will be mostly light grey everywhere! Amoled's worst nightmare.
red tint?
What red tint, is this when the screen is on? off? I haven't noticed any red tint but now I'm worried...

Wow, if you do not notice it - do not find a reason to notice it. Be happy with your device.
My display is a very slightly more blueish/pinkish towards the top half, specifically the top right. It's only noticeable on white content. It's subtle enough that I won't go through the hassle of getting a replacement especially since the replacement could be even worse... At least my display has been brightness and no banding or anything. Overall though, this display is simply phenomenal. Hopefully these slight display issues will improve as time goes on, although the screen on my S4 was very uniform, doesn't even come close to the performance of the Note 4 screen though.
Seems like the problems are much less pronounced that the typical uneven backlight of LCD?

Yeah trust me, you will end up paranoid and find a reason to dislike your phone (even if you never noticed the problem in the first place). Like they say, ignorance is bliss! Enjoy the phone.

Phone issues? Hardware or Software?

Mine should be coming in today and I was curious if any of you guys who've had there's so far experienced crazy memory management like the S7 or black screens like the S7.

Panel Lottery

As we all know the AMOLED lotto is real even if the display was given "the highest A+ from DisplayMate". Wanting to keep track to see if anyone is having any of the following issues: Screen uniformity, banding on gray, dark gray looking purple at lower brightness, blotches, black crush, black smear. If there is something I haven't listed feel free to post the issue. While I know some of these issues are inherent of the technology I would like to gather data and see other's experiences thus far.
On my my device my 128 GB white XL exhibits the "dark gray looking purple at lower brightness". I've also added poll options and I look forward to seeing everyone's responses and thank you for taking the time to read and respond!
While it's true any oled can get these problems, it does seem there's a fair amount of complaints about display issues already. I think that's because there LG panels, while we know have improved a lot since the 2 XL but they don't seem to be the same standard as samsung ones .
Something like the OnePlus 7 pro I didn't see any things on Reddit, xda about screen faults

Ifixit's tearodwn actually shows that Samsung actually manufactured the display. From what I know Samsung's own devices don't have 90hz panels yet. So this could be their first batch and the 4 is their guiena pig to iron out any production issues. But some other reports to report that it is LG. I'll poke around Reddit and see what the folks say down there as well. I could of just been the unlucky one and got shafted on the panel lottery. But everything else is working flawless (for now) and I don't really want to play the exchange lotto. Thanks for the response.
I guess I won the lottery. No issues at all. My P3XL had the purple shift at low brightness though.
What I would like to know is, the devices that are being affected, are they the XL or the standard version? The XL has all but been confirmed to be samsung, but we don't know about the regular version

Some are saying LG and the others are saying Samsung. I'm more inclined to believe it's Samsung since in the teardown it was confirmed. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Google+Pixel+4+XL+Teardown/127320 Unless they really went with LG and Samsung for both variants? Last year smaller gets the LG while the XL gets Samsung.
Maybe not?
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Who-m...Google-Pixel-4-XL-Samsung-or-LG.439878.0.html hopefully this posts right. Screenshot shows that it has the samsung driver. In the xl at least. Dunno about the standard
https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe..._pixel_4_display_a_big_step_forward_in_black/ This thread here shows that several people have posted about purple and some even green. Whereas some are saying even at higher brightness levels some grays appear purple and then at other times it appears as normal.

It would be nice if we could get some confirmation on which device this was happening on. So we can at least eliminate one other variable. We still don't know if the panels are the same on both devices. I'm willing to bet that is happening on the smaller version, since no one I know that has received an XL has mentioned it
I guess I won the lottery. None of the above for me so far. I haven't had the phone for even a day though, so the bottom two are possible yet. I checked the others and it's good to go. Very glad to hear they're Sammy displays too. I had the 2xl, and those LG's sucked.

If the XL panels are indeed all Sammy then I and probably a few others didn't win the lotto. I also notice some strange behaviors as well. Adaptive EQ off and ambient on and around 20-30% Discord looks fine, whereas the voice recording app still seems dark/purple until about 70%. Then there are times where I open that app and it seems fine. Another user in the reddit thread I linked is also reporting this behavior on various apps. Hopefully more cotinue to speak up if their screen is fine or not!
