[Q] Best microSD card? - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What microSD cards do you guys recommend for the Note 4? I'm going to be honest, I have never bought a microSD as I have never seen the need nor had a phone that supported it. Now, being a first time Note user and seeing their value with having to Odin firmwares and such, I was wondering what you guys would recommend? I see Samsung Evo has good reviews and SanDisk seem to have a lot of buyers. I hear a lot of people complain about their microSD cards getting corrupted and/or breaking down so obviously that is something that I would pay more for to get a nicer version. I just have no experience in this field. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wind up living with my Note and find more and more uses for it. I would get something great because you are almost certainly going to use it.
I would suggest Samsung 128GB MicroSDXC EVO+ Card - MB-MC128DA/AM, about $105 on Amazon. Lots of storage, about as fast as it is going to get with that much storage (you may really need the speed and storage for video).
If you have the power you can try new things and it is fun. If you cheapee out your weenie machine may be a drag - slow or not enough storage or mabe new applications won't work to full advantage. Sure enough as time goes on there will be amazingly cool apps that will use whatever horsepower they can get. If you want to take full advantage of that beautiful new Note dont saddle it onto a donkey, go for the stunning racehorse.

I recently bought the Samsung 64GB EVO Class 10 Micro SDXC on Amazon for $22. I can honestly say this has been my best card, the writing speed is incredible and unlike the SanDisk 32GB Class 10 I used before it hasn't given me any troubles at all. I can't recommend the Samsung series enough.

Sandisk 128gb is $60 on amazon. Sandisk is highly compatible with lots of things. Not that the other SD cards wnt work with note4, but other electronics don't play as nicely sometimes. Also, they're very reliable. And usually not the fastest, but the tradeoff is reliability.

Currently using a SanDisk Ultra Plus 32GB Class 10 card and have had no issues. $20-22, depending on where you look

Been using Sammy for years, not one issue ever. Goes with my Sammy phones, tablets, tvs, and dvd players. Yes...fan boy!!

Thanks guys. Great recommendations. Ill look into them all and go from there. Thanks again fellas.

I bought the 32gb EVO card on Amazon for $12. Should arrive in a day or 2. Right now I have a 4gb card in my Note 4. I'm very much looking forward to the new card.

[Q] Micro SDHC Upgrade

Morning XDA,
Just had a quick question about your opinions on micro SDHC cards.
The 2GB that Sprint gave me is quickly filling up, and so I'm deciding to go up to an 8GB
Any cards (type/model) you recommend and which ones cause any problems?

I'm not too sure about the 8GB cards but I bought a 16GB Class 10 SDHC card from Newegg.com for pretty cheap ($35.99).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._re=16gb_sdhc_class_10-_-20-220-546-_-Product
It performs great and I haven't had a single problem with it. I also notice that my HD videos that are recorded aren't as choppy.
I have the exact same card and I definitely recommend it. Also did some speed tests on it and its definitely a class 10

Well I'm on a budget (under $20) and looking at just 8GB Class 4 or 6
This is mostly just to upgrade storage space
I appreciate the suggestions though
There was a 16GB Class 10 from Wintec on New Egg for $24 and change. If you're going to spend $20 go a few more. The class makes a difference and you will notice it.

Oh nice. Yeah I've been looking around Newegg but have been basing judgement on reviews. I'll definitely look into that one.
Backups take up most of my space.
I got this 8 gig. class 6 card on Amazon for about 17 bucks (I was able to bundle it with something else to get free shipping). I find it's just fine for holding some music and app files. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0026L7DG0

That's actually the same one I added to my cart at Newegg ($15.75 w/ Free Shipping)
I'm not THAT stingy between the price disparities, just saw it on NE first.
I bought this 8GB Class 6 @ amazon a while ago.. best SD Card I have bought yet..
$23.95
What I like the best is that it comes with a USB Adapter instead of the SD Card Adapter.

In my best buy in atl we just recently got class 10 micro 8gb for 25. It's a sale price but sometimes they last a while.

For you guys who upgraded.....
Are the cards formatted out of the box, and "plug-n-play", or do they require additional steps before being read by the phone? I purchased (against my better judgement) a Sandisk 8GB Class 4 card last week, and the phone didn't even recognize the new card. Currently running CM7, so I though the ROM may be the issue, but I nandroided back to Stock, and the card wasn't recognized on that one either. So I just took it back (the card).
I'd like to upgrade, since yes, the backups do take a substantial amount of space, but I'd rather get a card that I can just plug in and go.

If you're talking about the PNY card, the Best Buy website is showing this as a new item in my local store for $29.99 ($49.99 for 16gb). I'm going to run over there after work and see if they're on sale.
Here is the card I got for me and my wife's Shift. They have been reliable.

$16.99 with free shipping. 8GB Class 6 card. Great reviews.
Edit - LOL I see you have already looked at this card...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211518
seems to be out of stock right now, but I was scared to try it after the reviews I read. But definitely works good. There's a flashable zip somewhere to change the SD cache or something and it worked out pretty well
This is a little off topic from my original question, but it's still accessories related
I honestly don't like the charger that came with this phone; juts out of the wall to far and I don't like how it's two parts. I'll definitely keep the cable for computer connectivity though.
I was browsing Amazon and I've seen a couple flat retractable prong ones and I can never seem to find cord length. Plus compatibility issues in terms of voltage output
Need a one piece charge, with a nice lengthy cord, and compact prong style
Any recommendations?
pretty much any micro USB cable will charge the phone. As for charger, I've been using AC chargers for ipod touch and all of them worked with the phone. From my experience, HTC phones tend to be not very picky when it comes to chargers.
Sandisk has never failed me Transcend has.

Not bad for the cost but I'm always hesitant after reading reviews especially if other Android users rated it 1/5 with reason
No Android users rated it 1/5. The 1/5 were for people who never received their rebate, and Linux users.

Recommended Micro SD Cards That Work w/G2x

Hey guys if you guys could post some links of compatible or recommend me some 16gb/32gb micro SD cards that work with the G2x that would be great. I live in the USA.
All microSD brands should work...
OKay I was reading reviews and notice some don't work with Android devices. This one in particular.

The Lexar 32gb class 10 supposed to be good And you will probably need a class 4-10 because of writing while your filming 1080p... you dont want any lag
JD
Yes, the Lexar 32GB works absolutely fine and is class 10, which is a MUST with such a fast phone.
I bought a Wintech 16gb Class 10 at Fry's on sale for 29.99 months ago. Works well with Samsung Galaxy S phones and my LG G2X. Sure beats the silly Class 2 that came with the Galaxy phones. Its normal price is about $32. The Wintech 32gb Class 10 is 89. These are legit class 10 micro sd cards and I have benchmark tested them. Don't buy fake crap sold on Ebay from China. Beware as they sell 4gb micro sd cards labeled as 16gb and class 10. Try putting more than 4 gb total in the card and it says storage is full.
Okay thanks guys.
I'm chinese, agree with you,DONT buy sd card from china, sufferring from the fake card, sigh

I'm about to get my G2X later this week and I was wondering the same thing.
Do I really need a Class 10 though?
Also... what's a good size'd card for someone who wont be going crazy with the 1080p camera?
I just want to add a few movies here and there on the phone plus apps and music with some room for misc docs.
I'm looking for the combination of speed/capacity/and affordability.
Anymore suggestions?
Thanks
ps. sorry if I'm hijacking your thread.

Thanks. What class would you recommend?
Regardless of class, I think I'll start out with a 16g and see how that goes. I'm pretty sure I'll be fine. I'll spend the bigger bucks on a 2-4 gig class 6-10 for a dedicated dSLR with 1080p recording.

any good recommendations from online sellers, since i'm in AU most instore are a rip offf

What SD card do you recommend?

I am still using the stock 2 gb card that came with my Incredible. I'm looking to get a bigger SD card preferably an 8 or a 16 gb card. What class, size, brand, etc do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance..

They're all pretty much the same. Never heard of a 'bad SD card' company.
I don't think our phones can take advantages of anything above a class 4, so it'd be a waste of money really to spend it on a higher class aka faster card.
This would be my first choice:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro...H0SC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1316312237&sr=8-2
It's actually the card I've been using for a year. Works great, quick and still a lot of room left on it.

I'm not sure I ever actually understood the whole speed thing. Is it how fast stuff is read off the card by our phone, or how fast things transfer from my computer into the card?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
speed ratings are how fast data is WRITTEN to the card.
The Incredible only came with a 2GB card? I'm still using the 8GB card that came with my Eris. Unfortunately nandroid backups take up so much room on this phone, I usually can only store 1. I'm not sure I want to invest in one since most phones seem to be coming with 16GB ones now.
Yeah.
I guess to break it down a little more, our phone only uses
- MicroSD
- Class 4 (classes are just speed ratings for the card and I do not believe our phone supports higher than 4 - not to mention there's nothing practical that you would need to go that quick on a phone anyway)
- Up to 32 (HTC says 32) // Verizon says 16.
I don't know of anyone who has used a 32, again I don't think it's very practical unless maybe you have your entire music library of 20,000 songs on your phone.
I have tried 3 different cards, PNY, Kingston, and San-disk. I have had issues with, PNY and Kingston, but never with any issues with San-disk.

I'm using a 32 GB SanDisk with no problems. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of buying a 16 GB only to replace it with a 32 GB later. I'm only using 12 GB and most of that is nandroid backups that I could probably get rid of.
The sweet spot price wise is probably the $15 16 GB instead of the $60+ 32 GB. But if you want/need 32 GB, it does work.
i have a 32gig scan disk and have had no problems with it.
Be careful when purchasing SD cards on eBay or 3rd party retailers on Amazon because there are a TON of counterfeit cards out there.

I would get the largest size card you can afford...then you can keep as many apps on it, music, pics, etc on it, and save the internal space for cache and not have the phone go crazy if you forget to clear it in awhile.
I personally have an 8GB and I'm considering getting a 16 or above, but 8 is a great size if you have a DECENT music and video collection along with games otherwise I would get a 12GB-32GB if you have tons of media. Click thanks if this helped!

I actually read up on what sd cards perform well as they have benchmark scores on the Toms Hardware site. The Kingston 8gb class 10 is really good. I got around 16 mb/s write speed and 19 mb/s read speed. Not too shaby for $9 on Amazon, and they have the 16gb for $16. Also, if I remember correctly the 16gb performed a little better than the 8gb, but both are perform well.

This right here. While physical stores can also get hit with fake cards, the big dumping ground for cheap chinese knock-offs is ebay and third-party Amazon sellers. Buy one, and you're likely to get a much slower card, the wrong capacity, or just a lump of SD-shaped plastic. you're better off going to wally-world, beastbuys, or a reputable e-tailer like new-egg.
That all said, SD cards are pretty much a commodity item, meaning they're more or less all the same. The Dinc itself I believe can only read around Class 4 speeds, but that's no reason not to go ahead and get a nice fast Class 10 card. Sooner or later you'll probably want to use it in another device or in your PC and it's nice to have the breathing room. I usually buy Sandisk when I buy them, but they're essentially indistinguishable.
And on a tangentially related topic. I see that the Galaxynote 2 is going to be one of the first devices to use SDXC cards... who else is ready to dump 2 terabyte SD cards into their phones to keep their whole lives on? :highfive:

[Q] SanDisk 32GB Mobile Ultra MicroSD microSDHC

Would this card work with the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000?
I plan on buying a Note pretty soon, but I am confused as to which memory cards are compatible.
I am not yet allowed to paste outside links, but the card can be found on eBay India as Sandisk 32GB Mobile Ultra microSDHC. The part number is SDSDQY-032G-U46A.
Hello,
The 32gb microsd card works perfectly on the Note. You can even go bigger if you want to.
In that case (64gb for example) you'll have an error message. Just ignore and reformat the card
Inside the note and you'll see that your 64gb microsd works and shows something around 59gb
Of space.
Have fun with your Note! I'm new coming from iPhone and I'm so glad with my new Note

Yes buddy it should work just fine unless really bad luck due to manufacturing defect.. Any hardware has minor risk of being a lemon so do look for one with warranty since most of these cards atleast come with year warranty.. 32 should be good enough but if got budget might consider 64 gb one if they have as well! Enjoy noting will surely make you Samsung fan..

Memory Card related queries
Hello Friends.
Firstly, I sincerely apologise to the OP if he/she feels I have hijacked his/her thread.
Since I have a very basic set of queries, it would not suffice to create a thread and clutter the sub-forum.
I have a SanDisk 16GB microSDHC Class 4 memory card which I purchased to use with my Galaxy Note.
Is it a standard practice to format the memory card before using it the first time?
Also, in the event the memory card does need formatting at some point in its life span, should it be formatted on the device (Galaxy Note) or a computer?
What file system is recommended?
I thank you for having constant patience with my naive behaviour.
To op, I have the 32gb version of that card and it works flawlessly. I had a 16gb class 10 sandisk in it previously but had occasional issues where the card would need reformatting haven't had any problems with this one at all. I would recommend buying from reputable dealer, lot of fakes around.
please hit thanks if i helped

I have been looking for a 64g SD card for my samsung tab 3 7". After reading many reviews on amazon I have discoverd a few things you might want to consider.
1. Anything over 32 gig is a whole different world for sd cards an compatibility especially for Samsung tab 3's
2. I don't know about other brands but sandisk seems to have formatting problems with android. They sell several different 64gig cards and some come with a warning that reformatting in the mobile device will leave the card unusable.
2. There are a lot of counterfeit 64gig cards out there and even though people are complaining about it, Amazon continues to sell them. Read the reviews carefully.
3. I don't know if the tab3 can utilize the class 10 cards that claim 30 mb per second.
I just started looking into getting a 64gig card for my tab 3 and my information is still incomplete as to what to get. All I can suggest is read, read read... There are some shifty deals out there.
I hope someone that has more knowledge about this subject will chime in as I am somewhat confused about the best card to go with.
Copy that. Thank you very much or the input, I was also just reading about the counterfeit cards that Amazon is selling in the reviews for some cards and elsewhere. I'm not sure why or how they would continue to sell them knowing that they are fake! I am seriously thinking about just going with one of the nicer Samsung cards and be done with it.

I just purchased 2 transcend 64gb sdxc cards for my tab and my phone. I read the reviews before I bought them and they said it would work. So far ive had no problems in either device. I have about 45 gigs filled on the tabs card with no read or write errors.

Cool, Good info. Thanks
Just to update its been 2 weeks now and the cards are doing great. I read the reviews before I bought and they said the transcend was very compatible with devices and since samsung is so picky I liked hearing that. Also a lifetime warranty is great too. Proof of purchase is necessary but since I purchased thru amazon I always have a record.

I'm using a Kingston 64gb class 10 just after 3 months of usage it got corrupt, all my files weren't working but the card can be read when you put it in, formatted it a lot on the tab and on the laptop with the card reader. I'm a noob and didn't do research cause the card was given to me from my girlfriend, at a stand still now trying to find the right tool to fix my SD card and no luck so far
